What a good list. Found myself nodding along with basically every entry. What gets me about Mahi Turf (S3) is its spawn area, especially before the water drops. In some of the aggressive Turf lobbies, pretty much every game opens with one team locking out the other for the first minute or so. It's boring when your team is doing it, it's frustrating when it happens to you. They badly need to rework that spawn area with the ramps.
haven’t played shipshape but after doing crab leg on turf and CB last night, i can comfortably say it’s one of their best splat 3 maps. it felt like i actually had options for approaching the map as a whole. feels good man
mince meat: You seem bewildered but it was a sniper fight. The team with the best sniper or the best sniper counter wins. If the enemy had a decent sniper, and you had a timid team, you are losing. Mince meant rotations became auto-skip.
@@rubellite4480 I agree some. But when I play with random people on other maps and they are too timid , I will take responsibility for the charger. Some maps like mince meat it's just too hard for 1 person to harass a skilled charger and succeed. Part of the "hallway" problem I guess.

im pretty sure that, compared to other options (especially the reef), sturgeon has a lot of problems like the left side being an instant death option a lot of the time as well as the tower control route
Saltspray and Moray Towers, while probably worse competitive stages, are leagues more fun than a lot of S3 stages. Do YOUR hallway maps have verticality and the ✨C R A N E✨? Yeah, I didn't think so
I’m honesty surprised not to see Sturgeon on the best list. The gimmick is pretty cool and the bottom of mid is so much fun to play on. I will say spawn isn’t that great but I still think it’s a pretty good map and hey, there has to be a reason it’s the only map in the series that’s been in every Splatoon game so far. Edit: Strugeon is not in 1, my bad 💀
I'm so happy Ancho-V Games is on this list. I actually got chills when it came up because to me it has the biggest nostalgia factor of any Splatoon map. I got the game for christmas in 2015 and when I opened it a month later and saw the announcement for Ancho V I got so excited because I felt like I was still part of the experience and not left out bc I didnt get to play around release. In S1 the biggest joy I had was just painting along all the different routes out of spawn and in Ancho-V I could shoot all the fans to zoom around! You could just explore the maps for funsies in turf war and I loved that. Ancho-V is such a creative map and it looks really beautiful too (to me at least). I love when they add aspects from the single player into the multiplayer stages, it makes the in game world feel more connected. I really hope they will add Ancho-V into S3 without taking away it's magnitude and essense. I am also hoping for Urchin and Bluefin to be added, I think they'd add a needed flair of nostalgia into S3. I liked how wide and tall S1 maps were and lets hope the devs will understand how well this would work in S3 as well. I think we're on a good track now tho given how Crableg (and Shipshape) actually show that more.
Damn why did the game with the coolest maps have to be the one I didn’t get to experience. 2 had fun stages but all of the S3 original stuff is a nightmare save for shipshape and crableg
Hammerhead S1 is a fun map but I agree with it's placement at number 10. Stuff like Bluefin Depot and other Splatoon 1 maps are higher up my list of favorites
walleye's bad but i'll take it any day over splatoon 3 hammerhead simply because it has side routes to avoid long range weapons in mid high ground. are they good side routes? idk but it's better than nothing
I kinda like scorche in turf war, the mid feels like a battle arena where everyone is fighting and triying to push. Also it has good routes out of spawn and the theme is my favourite of splatoon 3's
then you, my friend, have never been up against a competent e liter / slosher / splatling /squelcher. there is only ONE way out of mid and mid itself is very tiny and cramped with the giant tower in the middle, and chargers have an easy time since they can see basically all the routes, both in and out of mid
So glad museums finally getting love after all these years I remember although it was popular back in spaltoon 1. It kinda got overshadowed by Mahi, and some people didn’t like the gimmick. Always been my favorite stage, happy it’s getting more recognition now
Walleye Warehouse, Kelp Dome, and Port Mackerel have been personal favorites of mine since Splatoon 1, so to see them be so hated, I understand some of it, but unlike the Splatoon 3 corridor maps, there’s actual cover to hide behind on these maps. Kelp Dome lesser so but it made up for it by having 3 routes around the map. I won’t defend Port Mackerel’s splat zones mode, since the zones were miles apart, but otherwise these maps were just a lot of fun to pop out of unexpected places and catch people unaware!
I actually kinda like Splatoon 2's version of Port Mackeral Splat Zones, probably the one mode I actually like on that map. But in that game they completely reworked the zone so it no longer has that issue you described, so that's part of why.
Honestly I used to hate Snapper Canal in Splatoon 2 but after a while it really grew on me. Not my favorite by any means but I miss it and I hope it comes back in Splatoon 3. I think my favorite stage is Mako Mart or Anchovy Games.
I’m gonna say it, Manta Maria is my personal favourite in the whole series. I don’t honestly have a reason, it’s just always been enjoyable And hot take, I actually enjoy Mincemeat MORE Than Eeltail
I'm gonna be real, anyone who didn't vote for Walleye Warehouse for the worst stage was objectively incorrect. It is literally fucking unplayable, displaying everything that makes Splatoon 3's stages bad but taken to their absolute limit. The only logical reason people voted as anything else for the worst is recency bias.
I actually LIKE the water lanes in mahi's S3 TC map because it means you can't just rush people down mindlessly, and you have to be careful in how you move around. It feels skill testing which is what I like about it.
Honestly I’m surprised I didn’t see undertow in worst. It’s cramped, ugly, and isn’t so much a hallway as it is an hourglass since there’s no actual mid to play on.
Shipshape is actually the most fun map theyve added to splatoon 3. It had identity, its still kind of a hallway (not to be compared with new hammerhead o-o) but the amount of paintable walls and the amount of ups and downs is just a blast to play on. However.... crableg.......... :( (i dont like it)
Post-drizzle season 2023 launch, the new maps are good! Shipshape is a bit too campy for me, though I still enjoy it and think it's decent, and Crableg is actually really fun! (I have only played the Turf War variants though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt)
I think the positive reaction to those distinct bad stages is because a bad map thats bad in a unique way can still be fun and stand out. Balance is severely overrated in terms of how much it drives enjoyment, especially in things like map design. An unbalanced and poorly designed stage can find itself being fun through the sheer novelty of its terribleness.
I actually always loved Walleye Warehouse. Yea the spawn region thing is bad for sure, but every single time I played it on S2 I just had a blast. The drops on the far left felt fun and dynamic, and the hallway on the right was too fun to throw curling bombs down. Also sad some of my favourite S2 maps aren't in top 10, those being Musselforge, Albacore, and Skipper. I didn't follow the community much with Splatoon 2 but I figured Skipper Pavilion was really popular? Guess I was wrong.
Really interesting results in this poll! My personal fav stage is Bluefin Depot because I enjoyed the split layout. Also I thought the zones version was set up quite unusual to one side, though being inkable with long-range weapons and specials from the other.
Hot take, I actually really liked Kelp Dome. I didn’t have Splatoon 1, so if you want to educate me on it in that game then feel free, but in Splatoon 2, it was probably one of my favorites.
I'll be honest, I actually REALLY like Brinewater Springs. The option to rush at mid in like 5 seconds is really fun for me. Even though it's not an actual flank or anything, it still feels nice to be able to go the normal way, drop down and be a jump away from mid, or go a little further after the drop and take that risky ramp that almost takes you around mid. Although yeah, the lack of inkable walls, especially when the map first dropped, is pretty annoying. I personally feel like I rarely get locked out, but I have been on the other side locking people out so that might be a lucky biased. It feels like the small map size supports a highly aggressive playstyle. The map feels like a Nuketown, for people who played CoD. Only a few seconds into the match and you could already find yourself in a firefight, depending on how the other team starts.
With mahis turf layout as someone who mainly plays the game casually in turf it feels pretty awful. The main issue is its size makes gaining specials basically impossible which can make it boring and also it feels way too cramped most the match.
I'M SO HAPPY THE REEF IS THIS HIGH UP!!!💕💕🎀⭐ I love that stage so so much Also, the new maps added in 3 are a BLAST, I can already tell Crableg is gonna be one of ny favourites It looks pretty at night, has a cool easteregg, fantastic layout, amazing background,,,✨✨I love it Shipshape is cool too, it's not as interesting as Crableg imo but it is SUPER cool! I really hop they notice the fandoms positive reaction to these and continue to make interesting and good maps like these
@@legoboy7107 I mean yah but it's still the same map even without 1 or 2 walls that became uninkable, it's not full reworks like splatoon 1 maps so Im not too worried about them making it unplayable
Im actually kinda intrigued how this would look now that the rest of splatoon 3's maps have been released, Ramen, Crableg, Shipshape, and Marlin are all pretty solid, and the Barnicle and Unami reworks really improved them
umami is pretty good imo for clams and somewhat for zones, but not really that good for tower and rain so it probably evened out and ended up near the middle
There is nothing wrong with moray towers and it deserves a spot in S3 where SQUID SURGE EXISTS - All of you haters are to blame for the most fun unique stage being abandoned in the game it would matter most! All they have to do is add some tarps like in hagglefish for some overhead protection and some extra anti-charger blocks and BOOM, good map
Honestly, the fact that Splatoon 3 maps dominated the worst top 10 is depressing. I don’t understand what Nintendo is thinking with designing that game’s maps.
I personally think that new Flounder is way better than old Flounder. Fighting sloshers and blasters on old Flounder was a horrible experience because of how tall it was while the new one isn't built as perfectly for those weapons
So devs. ADD BACK The Reef and DON’T change a SINGLE INCH of the map. and also bring back Splashdown like you already have everything from code to graphics like WHY it’s a fun special and you literally already have it in hero mode
As someone who's first Splatoon online experience was with 3. I knew 3's map designs were already lackluster, and everyone else already thought so too. But man, looking at the footage of some of the earlier games maps making me feel really jealous I missed out on those. Like seriously, I'm now realizing that 3's map designs are actually atrocious in comparison. At least I'm liking the recent 2 so far.
It’s kinda funny, despite being a short range weapon user, I actually do really well on and really like Brinewater??? It’s got a decent balance of wide open space, closed in areas, and of course the traditional Japanese hot spring setting is never a bad thing.
I’m very curious where my personal favorite stage, Inkblot Art Academy, fell. I thought it would at least be top ten, even if it was low in it, but still. Very curious.
ultra stamp in mincemeat when on a rail or hitting it slows down to a dreadful pace, and with the grates... some weapons have "too safe" approaches that can lead to constant camping. Add a Zipcaster to the mix and the entire competition can snowball into an one-sided L. How does moving on a grate slow your movement speed?
i've never played the other 2 games; only Splatoon 3. i can only judge the maps by their Splatoon 3 versions. i'm a big fan of Crableg Capital and Shipshape Cargo Co. they're on par with Mako Mart and Flounder Heights in terms of my favourite maps. Crableg Capital on TC is a tad worse than the SZ version, i'll admit; but it's still fun. my least favourites... i'll go with Mahi Mahi Resort (except if it's SZ) and Brinewater Springs - perhaps Scorch Gorge, too (unless it's on TC).
So of course, after I make this poll last month they add good maps to the game. I will cover those this Sunday so stay tuned...

5:30 Chara, it’s pronounced AnCHo-V games (ch has in chase) as it’s a pun on the Anchovie fish, which has a soft ch sound
They badly need to rework that spawn area with the ramps.
haven’t played shipshape but after doing crab leg on turf and CB last night, i can comfortably say it’s one of their best splat 3 maps. it felt like i actually had options for approaching the map as a whole. feels good man
Crableg and Shipshape immediately take the top 2 spots of Splatoon original maps, honestly, including reworked maps
mince meat: You seem bewildered but it was a sniper fight. The team with the best sniper or the best sniper counter wins.
If the enemy had a decent sniper, and you had a timid team, you are losing. Mince meant rotations became auto-skip.
so many s3 maps just became "which team has the better charger?"
@@rubellite4480 I agree some. But when I play with random people on other maps and they are too timid , I will take responsibility for the charger. Some maps like mince meat it's just too hard for 1 person to harass a skilled charger and succeed. Part of the "hallway" problem I guess.
Honestly I'm glad we finally got actual maps. While I'm not a big fan of Crableg due to it being overall just not very interesting at all, I do think it is much, MUCH better than most of the things we've gotten. And Shipshape is fun, I enjoy it! On hopium over here, wanting to believe that this is just a taste of what's to come.
Best:
1. The Reef
2. Flounder Heights
3. Museum d’Alfonsino
4. Mako Mart
5. Mahi-Mahi Resort(Splatoon 1)
6. Anchovy Games
7. Manta Maria
8. Piranha Pit
9. Urchin Underpass
10. Hammerhead Bridge(Splatoon 1)
Worst:
10. Port Mackerel
9. Kelp Dome
8. Scorch Gorge
7. Eeltail Alley
6. Brinewater Springs
5. Wahoo World
4. Walleye Warehouse
3. Mahi-Mahi Resort(Splatoon 3)
2. Hammerhead Bridge(Splatoon 3)
1. Mincemeat Metalworks
Hammerhead Bridge didn't return in Splatoon 3. I only know that stage as "Needlenose Water Crossing" (something my brother came up with)
Why not "Hammerhead Hallway"?
camp triggerfish will always be my favorite map its just so fun
This gets me both hyped and worried for the Reef on Splatoon 3. On one hand, I'm excited to have the best map come to Splatoon 3. On the other hand, I worry about the changes the developers will make to this map that could make it unplayable...
I know it is in the code but… DO YOU REALLY THINK SPLATOON DEVS WOULD PORT A GOOD STAGE INTO SPLATOON 3 (impossible) 🙄😃🤓
@@ihavenoideahowtocallmyself3849 They promised to port the Reef into the game, so I have no doubt they will. The question then becomes, “how?”
@@Exl6243 FIrst of all, that was a joke and second, I know it is in the files, but from what I know, the only returning stage which was officially announced way in advance was Flounder Heights in the Direct, maybe you can correct me please?
@@ihavenoideahowtocallmyself3849 Actually you’re right. I could have sworn there was an announcement, but for the life of me I can’t find it. My bad…
This video should be mandatory viewing for the devs, so they can understand what not to do in the future, and correct the mistakes made in S3, especially on the S1 ported stages
It's "ancho". I just realised why too. I thought it was a pun on "anchor" this whole time, but I just realised, its a pun on "anchovie".
I want the Reef to come back with a superjump Reefslider small short video
I'm a little surprised that Sturgeon was not in the top 10, I always thought that was one of the best maps in Splatoon 2 specifically.
im pretty sure that, compared to other options (especially the reef), sturgeon has a lot of problems like the left side being an instant death option a lot of the time as well as the tower control route
Saltspray and Moray Towers, while probably worse competitive stages, are leagues more fun than a lot of S3 stages.
Do YOUR hallway maps have verticality and the ✨C R A N E✨?
Yeah, I didn't think so
Can't really argue their lol
Oh god the crane. The seagulls.
Too bad Nintendo figured out how to make maps right after you made the poll
I love how everyone ranked piranha pit at 9 forgetting that s1 piranha pit rainmaker existed.
^ THIS
I’m honesty surprised not to see Sturgeon on the best list.
What are you even saying? Sturgeon ship yard is only in splatoon 2 and 3, and the enemy has a height advantage after crossing the moving bridge
@@loading...948 I swear it was in 1 bro, I’m might be wrong tho. For the second part, I’m talking about under the bridge, should’ve been more clear.
@@wildbutterfreeSturgeon is not in 1
With how many times that map appeared whenever I played Splatoon 2 and 3 in the past years, I've grown so sick of that map haha
I love Sturgeon...but I play Luna sooooooo
Its a shame the reef hasnt been added yet
Ikr but it’s fine cause they gave us 2 new W maps
They'd destroy it in this game. Truly a monkeys paw request
They're busy trying to find out how to redesign it to make the bridge the only way through to the other side of the map. ☠
Damn why did the game with the coolest maps have to be the one I didn’t get to experience. 2 had fun stages but all of the S3 original stuff is a nightmare save for shipshape and crableg
i didn’t think barnacle & dime was that loved
Mahi-mahi had some pretty bad renovations to their resort.
It’s ancho v with the ch because it’s a spin on anchovies
In splatoon 4 they gotta bring a lot of unique modes, original and fun maps, 4×4 battles and the community favourite maps
Imagine when they add the reef into splat 3, the bridge is just Broken, and that’s the only change they do.
They would say something like: "Pearl broke it. Again."
The only thing hammerhead has over its original is the little nils statue easter egg
@@joshwash2 Maybe i'ts becaus I main dualies, but I was never afraid for chargers. I just go like *dash* *dash* on the bridge and I kill them
@@manu_18_lr24 I get what you're saying but stuff like sloshers and crabs can get you easily
@@manu_18_lr24 understandable, but wait till a cracked 2000xp charger 360 no scopes you, that shits terrifying
So glad museums finally getting love after all these years
I remember although it was popular back in spaltoon 1.
It kinda got overshadowed by Mahi, and some people didn’t like the gimmick.
Always been my favorite stage, happy it’s getting more recognition now
You could argue that Reef is the best map, but it was so unhealthy for Splatoon 2. The special spam made Reef feel like Wahoo World 2.0
Video 188 of commenting on Chara videos till undercover gets fixed
Walleye Warehouse, Kelp Dome, and Port Mackerel have been personal favorites of mine since Splatoon 1, so to see them be so hated, I understand some of it, but unlike the Splatoon 3 corridor maps, there’s actual cover to hide behind on these maps. Kelp Dome lesser so but it made up for it by having 3 routes around the map. I won’t defend Port Mackerel’s splat zones mode, since the zones were miles apart, but otherwise these maps were just a lot of fun to pop out of unexpected places and catch people unaware!
I remember loving Kelp back in 1
I have some good memories from it
Walleye and port are corridor maps
I actually kinda like Splatoon 2's version of Port Mackeral Splat Zones, probably the one mode I actually like on that map. But in that game they completely reworked the zone so it no longer has that issue you described, so that's part of why.
Honestly I used to hate Snapper Canal in Splatoon 2 but after a while it really grew on me. Not my favorite by any means but I miss it and I hope it comes back in Splatoon 3.
I think my favorite stage is Mako Mart or Anchovy Games.
I’m gonna say it, Manta Maria is my personal favourite in the whole series.
I don’t honestly have a reason, it’s just always been enjoyable
And hot take, I actually enjoy Mincemeat MORE Than Eeltail
I do have a reason for it being my favorite, the secondary objective of reaching the enemy spawn boat for maximum psychic damage.
100%
If they dont bring back unchanged reef im
gonna scream
I actually LIKE the water lanes in mahi's S3 TC map because it means you can't just rush people down mindlessly, and you have to be careful in how you move around. It feels skill testing which is what I like about it.
I like them because watching people fall into the water is funny af 💀
Honestly I’m surprised I didn’t see undertow in worst.
It’s cramped, ugly, and isn’t so much a hallway as it is an hourglass since there’s no actual mid to play on.
Nice video though, you should do a part 2 after Splatoon 3 is over
Shipshape is actually the most fun map theyve added to splatoon 3.
6:58 okay hear me out... if they didnt halfass the gimmick it woulda been loved
Nintendo has answered our prayers for real maps 🥹
If they're going to give us bad maps, give us _fun_ bad maps. Where's the splatoon equivalent of hightower, just dumb fun?
Honorable Mention to Mussleforge for being one of the best
I’m suprised reef won, I just never really thought of it much. It always was just meh to me, but I’m glad to see it!
With mahis turf layout as someone who mainly plays the game casually in turf it feels pretty awful. The main issue is its size makes gaining specials basically impossible which can make it boring and also it feels way too cramped most the match.
Watch them ruin The Reef too as per usual Splatoon 3 standards.
I'M SO HAPPY THE REEF IS THIS HIGH UP!!!💕💕🎀⭐ I love that stage so so much
Also, the new maps added in 3 are a BLAST, I can already tell Crableg is gonna be one of ny favourites
It looks pretty at night, has a cool easteregg, fantastic layout, amazing background,,,✨✨I love it
Shipshape is cool too, it's not as interesting as Crableg imo but it is SUPER cool! I really hop they notice the fandoms positive reaction to these and continue to make interesting and good maps like these
If the reef was added in Splatoon 3, they would probably make over half the walls uninkable and make it worse
They barely changed the Splatoon 2 maps so I don't think they would do that
@@91yugo77 They did remove a few inkable walls on Manta though.
@@legoboy7107 I mean yah but it's still the same map even without 1 or 2 walls that became uninkable, it's not full reworks like splatoon 1 maps so Im not too worried about them making it unplayable
Im actually kinda intrigued how this would look now that the rest of splatoon 3's maps have been released, Ramen, Crableg, Shipshape, and Marlin are all pretty solid, and the Barnicle and Unami reworks really improved them
I once spawn camped on walleye so hard that the other team got less then 10% of the stage covered. Absolutely GARBAGE
The bottom 10 were very interesting in my opinion. I’m very surprised umami wasn’t there
umami is pretty good imo for clams and somewhat for zones, but not really that good for tower and rain so it probably evened out and ended up near the middle
Once your ready, I can't wait for the next round of the best and worst weapons of every class.
I’m a bit worried they’d give it the flounder treatment, though
Kirby 64 music is a quick way to get a like out of me. Congrats editor
It's poetic that not a single Splatoon 3 stage made it into the Top 10
As someone who's first Splatoon online experience was with 3. I knew 3's map designs were already lackluster, and everyone else already thought so too. But man, looking at the footage of some of the earlier games maps making me feel really jealous I missed out on those. Like seriously, I'm now realizing that 3's map designs are actually atrocious in comparison. At least I'm liking the recent 2 so far.
The last time I was this early brella hadn't been buffed 💪
Is that a flex?
@@Style_224 more like an awful joke, but I appreciate the good faith interpretation
Mahi-Mahi being under Makomart is absolutely crazy
It’s kinda funny, despite being a short range weapon user, I actually do really well on and really like Brinewater??? It’s got a decent balance of wide open space, closed in areas, and of course the traditional Japanese hot spring setting is never a bad thing.
Not the 2 worst s3 maps being the highest ☠️
I’m very curious where my personal favorite stage, Inkblot Art Academy, fell. I thought it would at least be top ten, even if it was low in it, but still. Very curious.
I love Moray Towers.
I said it. I SAID IT!
The small fighting area in the middle with only three ways to climb up was perfect.
Honestly, same. It might not have been the best map competitively, but casually it was just so fun
The fire emblem music 🫡👏🏽💯
wait how did arowana get out of this alive???

THE NEW MAPS R SO MUCH FUN
ultra stamp in mincemeat when on a rail or hitting it slows down to a dreadful pace, and with the grates... some weapons have "too safe" approaches that can lead to constant camping. Add a Zipcaster to the mix and the entire competition can snowball into an one-sided L.
How does moving on a grate slow your movement speed?
Blackbelly Skatepark is my favourite map and I'm sad that it wasn't in this video at all, I just hope it gets added to Splatoon 3
"LOOK MOM IM A STATISTIC"
i've never played the other 2 games; only Splatoon 3. i can only judge the maps by their Splatoon 3 versions.
i'm a big fan of Crableg Capital and Shipshape Cargo Co. they're on par with Mako Mart and Flounder Heights in terms of my favourite maps.
FYI it’s ancho with a ch, cause it’s based off the word “anchovy”
