Limp Mode - Nissan Navara YD25 - SCV Replacement

  • In this episode I'm installing a suction Control Valve on a Nissan Navara D40 to fix an issue with the common rail fuel system.
My truck had gone into limp mode and after some research I discovered that this is a common culprit for most common rail diesel engines.
This is all part of preparing my vehicle for overland expeditions in the future & in my mind, knowing how to maintain a vehicle is essential.
    TOOLS NEEDED -
    '
Small Ratchet with 10mm Socket or 10mm Ratchet Spanner
5mm Alan Key (or ratchet bits)
REMOVE NEGATIVE ON BATTERY FOR 90 MINS PRIOR TO STARTING
To carry out the fuel pump reset carry out the following -
Turn ignition on so all dash lights come on.
    Wait 3 seconds
PUMP accelerator pedal 5 times within 5 seconds....
with foot now OFF accelerator wait 7 seconds...
After 7 seconds press and hold down accelerator pedal for 10 seconds...
After 10 seconds the Engine Management Light will start to flash, at this point remove foot from accelerator.
The Navara is now in diagnose mode, so let the EML flash for a bit. the press and hold the accelerator pedal down for more than 10 seconds..this will then reset ECU and fuel pump etc......and put them into learning mode.

Had a similar issue with my d40 going into limp mode after being idle for a while. Changed the turbo valve solenoid and issue remained with the actuator still having play. Read online that the SCV was related to this specific issue. So i bought the part yesterday and stumbled onto this video at night. Decided to reset the ecu like how you did before changing the scv. To my suprise i had power after being idle for a while. I'll still check the scv to make sure there's no erosion, if there is I'll just replace it.
Thank you for making this video. Years later and its still assisting your viewers.

My np300 d22 yd25 engine will get a little bit stuck on rev 900-1100 and rev slow and after that it will do perfectly... When driving when going over a bump and the rev goes below 1 especially on gear 2&3 it will rattle also when when loaded on a small hill it will rev down and will turn off forcing me to use 4wheel drive high what could be the cause and how can I resolve it? Thank

    • @PrimalNomad

It could potentially be a faulty SCV if it's in Limp Mode, mine used to do a smiliar thing after booting it a bit, if not maybe a boost control solenoid or transfer case switch if its forcing 4wd high? I'm not too familiar with the np300 albeit!

Hi from Oamaru Sth island New Zealand
    Question.
Any other possible causes to this misery?
A horrid white Hazy comes out of my 2012 Nissan Navara D40 St-X Diesel Spanish built then engine has rough lumpy idle then cuts out after 2 minutes or accelerated.
E.g.r valve and cooler is fine.
I possibly have coolant leak but there's no water in my sump oil or oil in radiator coolant.
I'm not sure if e.g r valve failure can lead to same symptoms or ths.
Do you think s.c.v would cause any issues to symptoms?.

Hi Carl! Sorry for the late reply, RUclips hid this from me for some reason 🤔. I'd suggest that the limp mode might also be related to the MaF sensor or BCV but potentially an injector issue also. Have you tried doing an ECU reset & fuel pump reset to see if you get any improvement, even temporarily? If not maybe I can arrange a chat with you to further diagnose. Liam

Try this which I do for my navara d40 for fuel problems. Buy a liqui moly diesel purge remove the fuel line into the pump & return line from the fuel filter. Take a glass jar and fill liqui moly and put both removed fuel lines into the jar. Start the cab & continue it with different rpm levels. It will cleanup everything in rail and pump. Problem will resolve.

Hey Andy! That definitely sounds like a dodgy SCV, it's also worth checking over your vacuum hoses from the Boost solenoid (on the side of the air box on my manual d40) and the MAF sensor on the airbox also, mine was limping from the moment I turned the ignition once and it was the MAF sensor plug wasn't clipped in fully. Limp Mode is a very common symptom for the SCV though and it's a part worth changing every 5 years or so in my opinion.

    Dear Primal Nomad
Thanks for your time and effort to publish you video. I replaced the SCV on my Nissan Navara LE 2012 4x4 & Manual Transmission, given the fact that I was experiencing the same symptoms you described i.e. once starting the engine first time in the morning the motor started fine BUT it stopped once the RPMs. decreased below the 1000 RPM. Same problem for a while but after the motor is at operational temp no more issues though sometimes - on a very random way - it will stop while waiting for the green light at the semaphore.
Unfortunately the problem is still there after the replacement. Please note that after following precisely your RESET procedure I couldn't have the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKING...it has been lit all the time.
Then I start the motor and unfortunately still have exactly the same aforementioned symptoms. Please advice. THANKS !

I'm so sorry Ramon for a late reply, I never saw this comment until Christopher replied to it!
In regards to both of your issues, I'd be very interested to see how your EGR's are, it may be blocked and causing the issue. This can then cause the MAF and BCV to work improperly causing an airflow issue and therefore a similar symptom to your diagnosis.
Have you got an EGR plate installed also?

    • @CrazoidMetal
      @CrazoidMetal Год назад

Hi mate, thanks for replying.. I’ll continue the thread for now haha.. EGR is not something I’m far I liar with, however on my car I’m quite sure the issue is worn timing chain/sprockets.. after disconnecting the cam angle sensor the car started and idled normally.. suggesting the sensor picks up the issue with the chain and cuts the motor out.. it is more of an electronic ‘cutout’ rather than a stall issue. I’ve since taken steps to buy a double row/duplex chain upgrade kit. Very expensive, but gotta do it.

Hi Lewis! Sorry to hear you're having issues. I'd definitely recommend changing this valve if there's an issue with fueling (sounds like it) it could be that it's in a perpetual Limp and therefore can't start!

I did not Understand how you stepped the acelerator in order not to scan the system

    • @PrimalNomad
      @PrimalNomad  2 месяца назад

Sorry for the late reply, To carry out the reset, follow these simple steps:
Turn ingnition on so all dash lights come on.
      Wait 3 seconds
PUMP accelerator pedal 5 times within 5 seconds....
Take foot off the accelerator after last pump and wait 7 seconds...
After 7 seconds press and hold down accelerator pedal for 10 seconds...
Atfer 10 seconds the Engine Managment Light will start to flash, at this point remove foot from accelerator.
the Nav is now in diag mode, so let the EML flash for a bit. the press and hold the acclerator pedel down for more than 10 seconds..this will then reset ECU and fuel pump etc......and put them into learning mode.

Hi do you now this code P1275 nissan navara d40

    • @PrimalNomad
      @PrimalNomad  4 года назад

Likely to be the fuel pump, the code reads that there is an error with the air fuel ratio sensor 1 response time.
Try doing the fuel pump reset that's in the video & description and this should help.

    • @PrimalNomad

I've heard of issues with the turbo boost pressure control, it also could be the Egr. Maybe worth checking the Vacum lines from the turbo too. I'll have a think of any other options to check!

The number of this SVC is P0360 Denso
You can find it more cheaper in Peugot and Citroen
Also the injectors and fuel pump probably the same
