A quick question....... Which year was the timing chain issue addressed on YD25 D40? Reason why I am asking is, I wish to buy a used Navara D40 but am not sure how to check if the car has a double timing chain without opening the engine.
Great video Alex, i had an STX 550 with the 3.0lt V6 loved it to bits. Only issues i had with it was a EGR valve failure and a strange bottoming out on the left hand rear when loaded, even with 300kg constant rated springs. I loved that engine so much that i have tracked one down with only 80,000KM on it. just cant beat 170kw and 550nm. So back to D40 life for me.
I have driven the STX 550, loads of power and enough torque to pull a train. Brilliant engine! EGR & DPF systems are common to have issues on any modern diesel vehicle, some worse than others. Was your suspension factory or aftermarket. ?
@@alexeyersautomotive9440 suspension was originally factory, even when changed to after market, the strange bottoming out remained. The new beast (stx550) is completely stock and I have no bottoming out issue so i'm at a bit of a loss this the old cars issue.
Just a little knowledge I had on my pathfinder cruise control. I had issues engaging the cruise control. The prob was a neutral position sensor. The easy check for this was use the idle up switch left lower of the steering wheel on the right hand drive. With the switch on and in neutral the rpm’s are higher.. press the clutch and put into any gear with the clutch still engaged if the rpms lower the nps is good if the rpms remain higher. Check your neutral position sensor... this was my issue are higher

My dear good afternoon, good video. A query, I have a Nissan Navara diesel engine YD25 year 2010, the radiator is no longer original, it is an alternative, I have been told that the radiator cap is without a pressure valve, it is a blind cover; the cap with pressure valve goes in the radiator reserve tank, because the engine has already heated up and affected the cylinder head. I could confirm the Navara that is in the video, the radiator cap is with valve pressure or it is a blind cap.
My why my D40 sometimes goes into a sluggish mood and when I completely release the accelerator pedal and accelerate again it goes back to normal normal . 280000 km replaced one timing chain 4 new injectors . Other ways no problem whatsoever .

Hey James, The ground clearance on the D40s from factory isn't terrible for standard use but if you intend to use them for proper 4wding then I would highly recommend lifting them. My D40 runs a 2" old man emu lift kit and 33s which doesn't require anything else to be modified and provides excellent ground clearance. If you go over a 2" lift then you will have to start carrying out extra mods for example diff droppers etc. Any other questions let me know!

Mine has a weird thing of after selecting 4wd and if the car stalls it won’t start again or when it starts it will stall again within seconds with very poor throttle response 🤷🏼♂️
Hi David, The navaras are known for this issue, it has to do with the gearing and the time it takes for the throttle plate in the intake to open. Navaras are very tall geared in first gear making them easier to stall than other 4wds. The operation of the throttle body is quite slow in the navaras as well. Lots of people fit iDrive throttle controllers to eliminate this issue.
What’s your economy just general driving How’s the cab space? I test drove one before and didn’t think it would be a factor but I had what felt like 1cm headroom
I've got a 2010 140kw 5sp auto, done a clock spring, front uni joint (mine was really squeaky when idling/coasting in gear, went away under load), drive belt tensioner and replaced instrument cluster to fix the manual mode in the auto. Another common issue is the front speakers randomly cutting in and out, it's not a wiring issue it's the speakers themselves so I just replaced them with some decent aftermarket ones. Also I've noticed a lot of people in the facebook groups seem to be recommending the revised single row timing chain kit over the double row now.
Great video, im looking to buy a d40 and this is very informative, thanks. How much approximately would you expect to pay a mechanic for the double row chain upgrade ? Would you own a Thai built d40?
Hi, It all depends on which mechanic you go to but generally the cost of the upgrade is between $1,500-$2,000AUD, this does not include any other repairs needed when replacing the chain.

love mine great on fuel towing 9 l around town i dri9ve it instead of my xr8 au falcon which i love .
My 4x4wont work it flashes on the dash
Abs wire
Thanks
Mine has a weird thing of after selecting 4wd and if the car stalls it won’t start again or when it starts it will stall again within seconds with very poor throttle response 🤷🏼♂️
Unhook your battery over night. Maybe something will reset.
Hi David,
The navaras are known for this issue, it has to do with the gearing and the time it takes for the throttle plate in the intake to open. Navaras are very tall geared in first gear making them easier to stall than other 4wds. The operation of the throttle body is quite slow in the navaras as well. Lots of people fit iDrive throttle controllers to eliminate this issue.
tailgate sag had to use washers to space it back up .
and rivets in tub tight down failed $5 to drill out and replace with ss ones
What’s your economy just general driving
How’s the cab space? I test drove one before and didn’t think it would be a factor but I had what felt like 1cm headroom
Frosty morning down to 6.7l per 100 about 13 l towing 2 t off-road van.
Mine averages about 12L per hundred in most conditions but that may have something to do with the driver 🤦♂️
A 26 minute video on the shortcomings of the navara, 🤨 you still think they’re worth owning?
I own one 🤦♂️
All vehicles have their faults, this is just a video explaining some of the more common ones with these particular vehicles.
Had one, Its good looks mask a multitude of problems.. Definitely avoid 👍
I'm hearing those new single row kits are the go and are a fair bit cheaper! Glad someone has made a revised single row kit.!
G,day stick to the duplex double chain it you already got it fitted.
@@lesilestivany7839 good advice mate.

@@ebzery Its a manual mate
@@nathanbolton3192 mine is to you need to go back a few m ang forward may 3 times to unlock it
Hey Nathan,
Did you get to the bottom of this issue.?
Hmmmm, might just safer to spend the extra cash on a used Hilux.
Great video, im looking to buy a d40 and this is very informative, thanks.
How much approximately would you expect to pay a mechanic for the double row chain upgrade ?
Would you own a Thai built d40?
Hi,
It all depends on which mechanic you go to but generally the cost of the upgrade is between $1,500-$2,000AUD, this does not include any other repairs needed when replacing the chain.
I own a Spanish Built Navara, but a used car salesman told me to steer clear of the Thai model
Bit late, but stear clear of the Thai models, only buy the spanish ones
@@kaigannon6495 if it's got the YD25 engine built to be lemons,,, change my engine, cost me extra, to upgrade as much of the cheap part's Nissan used in the engine build,,,,if it fails again 🤔 I'll look at a Cummins or Duramax engine implant if possible.
Howdy, Im looking at buying a Navara, but i hear so much about the chassis breaking and folding the car in half. How common is this?
The d40 has a weaker frame than d22, but a way better engine. Soon as the frame get rusty it gets weaker and may snap, so buy a d40 with no rust and enforce it, then youre good to go
before i bought a truck, i asked a friend of mine, who happened to be a
buy/sell used car agent, his opinion on which truck to buy. he told me
his buyers always ask for either a hilux or a dmax truck. he further
opined that d navarras had a problem with their turbos. wen i asked him
about d chevy colorado, he shook his head from side to side. i didnt
ask him about d ford ranger cos i had a bad experience with my previous
ford car. i bought a brand new dmax and am very satisfied with it.
its all about price and narvaras is where its at well wroth the price
