"All of the dual cab utes are pretty good, and just a little bit crap" is probably one of the best bits of automotive journalism I've ever heard. Especially in regards to the dual cab ute segment.
They destroyed all 4wds about the time landcruiser ditched the 6cylinder diesel in favour of the more environmentally friendly V8. It has been a downward road for all diesels since that date. They have pushed high hp, high reving output out of small cylinder blocks and they simply don't last. It is the same analogy as taking steroids and wondering why the heart fails. Not only is it a problem for cylinder blocks, it is a problem for drive train which wasn't designed for high torque of the modern variants. My advice to any one, find a vehicle with Ad-Blue if you want it to last. The DPF have higher engine temps, which have always been a problem.
The 7 gear automatic in it is a masterpiece!!! Low fuel consumption ( we need below 7 liters) and very comfortable and harmonic. Hilux still only 5g and the 10g in Ranger can not decide which gear to take ...
Bought a new navara 3 years ago, now it has over 240.000km on the clock with Zero issues, nothing broke, runs perfect. For anyone who wants reliability and low running costs the navara is perfect
I have a 2016 D23 Navara ST dual cab ute. The vehicle has done 98,000Km and has been totally reliable and very economical. It is comfortable and is used for shuttling between Adelaide and Whyalla. Until fitting slightly larger Cooper tyres, RAW4x4 aftermarket lift kit (probably 20Kg extra), an ARB canopy (80KG), low profile bull bar (65Kg), tow bar (30Kg) and dual battery system (35 KG) it got very close to the fuel consumption the maker claimed when driven at the maximum allowed by the speed limits. Now it does 9.5 to 10.5 litres/100Km, the extra weight has taken its toll in fuel consumption and the wind resistance of the bull bar set up has reduced maximum speed and reduced acceleration, though mid range it is still very good. If you have a standard ST ute with the soft springs fitting air bags in the rear is very effective and a cheap way to really improve the handling. I've driven in sand dunes and on beaches, it's great, just have the right tyre pressure. Blue Rag Range track in the Vic. High Country was an easy drive for the car as was Crooked River and several others. The Flinders Ranges was easy even before the car was lifted (30mm suspension and 20mm tyres). On the 2016 model the screen for the reversing camera is too small, catches the sun and is very poor compared to , say, the Hyundai equivalent and you cannot see a thing if you are wearing Polaroid sunglasses. The biggest problem even when the ute was standard before fitting the bull bar was that the Nissan dealership I was using changed the oil but not the filter for three years even though I was servicing every 10,000Km causing the filter to be blocked by carbon and a build up of silica in the engine oil which I detected through having an oil test done by a reputable laboratory. Flushing the engine and changing the oil and filter had a remarkable effect improving performance and fuel economy. Changing the oil filter is fiddly and I was unfortunate to have a lazy, unprincipled person servicing my car. Oh! I'm not a mad 20 year old but a 75 year old 4x4 enthusiast who has travelled widely in places needing 4x4 ability and I don't have money to burn on a pension. To see what the D23 will do look at Tyler Thompson on U-Tube.
I've had mine since 2017, and and use for my business in engineering, I can honestly say its the best vehicle I've ever had, ive done 127000 miles in it and the only thing failed was the battery at 99000 miles and that was replaced under warranty, it still drives as good as the day I bought it.
Yep very reliable car! I’ve had mine since 2015. Currently at 225,000km. Changed 2 batteries. 5000km ago I encountered a problem with the thermostat braking and therefore coolant wasn’t getting through the engine. Fixed that and now it drives like a dream. Fingers crossed I can get it to 300,000km
Great review! I've got a 2018 version and have had it for 4 years (in South Africa, where it isn;t popular at all). Its a great, comfortable, capable vehicle. Fully loaded on holiday with some mileage, I get around 8-9L per 100km, but unloaded I can get around 7L/100 if you try, its pretty economical. The General grabbers are a great tyre choice, virtually no road noise, lots of grip and they wear brilliantly.
Had one for just on 4 years, cannot fault it. Im a tradie and appreciate the lower tub height so getting things out of canopy aren't as difficult as lot of the other utes. The drive is excellent more of an SUV than a ute. Its comfortable, the seats have been a game changer for my back issues. Fuel economy on long runs in particular is outstanding, tows whatever I have towed with little issue. And it looks good on the road. I recon very much underrated.
in other words Nissan is the ONLY Car Manufacturer who builds an SUV (Sports Utility (UTE) Vehicle) that is actually a Ute. .....(Unless SUV Stands for Suburban Use Vehicle)
Navara Is the best VALUE FOR MONEY dual cab on the market, the rest I.E Ranger and Hilux are like Gucci handbags ( some might think they look good but useless and you can buy something better for half the price) all the ranger and Hilux owners have Gucci handbags so I thought it was a fitting analogy
Hallelujah someone spoke truth, 19:35 as a builder I’ve owned nearly every brand as I upgrade every 3-4 years or so. And yea they’re all pretty good but the reality is your gonna need to spend money on all of them especially if you wanna carry weight or tow heavy stuff. I tow a dual axle builders trailer everyday on my current car a 18 Navara and my spine loves it. If your gonna do anything out of the intention of the manufacturer made these for, (which includes most everything) be prepared to spend big money! None of these things carry load the payload on all of these dual cabs is less than a tonne. Payload includes driver passengers and every thing bolted on to the car but no one mentions these very important points when you buy one, I wonder why.
@@user-kr1or1hm4v bur I'll loose bragging rights in the pub if I don't have the whole ARB catalogue bolted onto my ute with "1t payload" or "3.5t towing capacity"
My turbo pipe leaked when I got it with 23000kms on the clock. That was the last problem. I had to sell due to financial reasons, but will purchase one in a heartbeat. Was MORE than happy.
My Np300 is the first ute I've ever owned, drove previous models, and other branded utes and must say as using her as a daily, and going camping / on the dunes on the weekend, she has done everything I've needed from her. Great ute!
I got the D40 stx 550 it's so good man. Every one that hates navaras needs to drive one. Navara haters are just 24/7 4wd fans as shauno hates navaras yet can't give one reason for it. So the fanboys love shaounos willy
having one since 2018, its an honest hardworking reliable, low upkeep, comfortable all rounder ute for the family. stock navara may not be a specialist for frequent heavy loading or extreme offroading or sports driving (eg: drag) unless modded but its more than sufficient for almost all duties. but somehow was always the blacksheep of the ute market. but that;s a good thing since it fetches well if you're going for a used navara. very very bang for buck.
Agree 100%, and let's not forget that you used to be able to get these for 0% finance before RONA hit, on a 3 year loan. 2018, just paid mine off, 80,000km and aside from the driver's seat (I weight 110kg) I've had no issues. 10k service intervals are a great bit of advice. Still looks virtually new, but mine lives a fairly charmed life.
I have a 2018 Navara 6 speed manual. I use it for towing a 3 tonne caravan and have used it for towing some fairly decent weights in a trailer (nearly 2 tonne in total). I have taken the caravan from Sydney to Queensland and down to Victoria. It does struggle going up decent hills but for highway driving it was pretty decent! I am getting 17L per 100km on average towing the caravan. It had the turbo pipe oil leak that was mentioned in the video and has a 4wd error pop up in low gear which I need to get sorted. However, I purchased a brand new Isuzu MUX in 2017 which had the turbo blow in the first 6 months, a faulty dpf sensor in the first year and have just had to replace the master and slave cylinder as they were leaking. I think the most accurate statement I have ever heard about utes and 4x4s in general is from this video! "they are all pretty good, and just a little bit crap". At the end of the day, pick the car that you like the most and just enjoy it. Cheers for posting such an awesome video.
The NP300 is the best dual cab ute I have owned .Bought the first of the series in 2015 ,a gold STX . Now has 110,000KLms with oil changes at 10K intervals. This ute has never missed a beat and would buy new again without hesitation. Only recommendation to any owner or future buyer is change the auto transmission fluid before 80,000 klms .Nissan says the transmission is sealed for life but after dropping the pan at this kilometre reading, found thick metallic paste on the two pan magnets and the trans oil not looking too fresh, it is important to keep clean fluid running through if you desire a transmission with a long life .Its not too difficult to do it yourself. Otherwise a great reliable car to drive.
I have owned many Navies and to date have found them to be above and beyond. My current NP 300 is a 2016 model, i have fitted a 150 ltr fuel tank, Air bags, towing extendable mirrors and a twin battery system. I tow a 2200 kg Full size van, honestly the Navie tows it with no issues what so ever. off road, well i say it is a recovery vehicle for all the other twin cabs out there. in all a brilliant vehicle.
Hey mate, I’ve seen every NP300 review on RUclips, and I really have seen a lot, also own np300 since 2017 (still love it), hands down best review video by far. Well done on the effort and details, you have done a fantastic job and clearly did a lot of research not just another cookie cutter review. 👌🏻 well done mate
Own a 2015 ST bought new in Oct, 2016. I have found this vehicle to be as you said "pretty good at everything." I have upgraded the suspension at 80,0000km and had NISSAN replace the transition seal under good will. I have one thing that I have found annoying - the drivers seat belt does not retract properly. All-in-All happy with my purchase. Enjoyed your honest review.
I would like to add some things. As to suspension and it’s weight taking ability, air bags and quite inexpensive and cost less than the difference between a Navara and any of the competition. Yes, if you want an out of the box solution, it won’t tick the boxes but if you want to have the best of both worlds (comfort and load carrying ability) then you can’t go past the Nav. Rear main seal leaks are nearly guaranteed and I can’t agree more about the service schedule. Cloth interior wears horribly, especially door cards. Series 4 seems to have a different throttle map (I’m led to believe this) as I feel next to no lag in my 2020 Series 4 ST. I have an iDrive and it turns into a jerky mess and just unpleasant to drive. My Navara would certainly be in the top 5 of the 30+ cars I’ve ever owned. Good review bro.
2014 Nissan Frontier for 7 years now, and I absolutely love it! I go camping and offroading 3-5×/year, it also functions as my daily driver. I got it for a super affordable price, certified used, with one previous owner, at 20k miles. I've put some mods and more to go, still haven't reached the prices of what I saw shopping the used version of the competitors. I'm not sure why the hate--if you prefer the common models, then go with what you prefer. Great truck if you're into budget building and fine with luxury utilitarianism!
moving from Canada to Mexico in a couple of months. The Ranger, Tacoma, and Colorado are all significantly more money than the Hilux, Maverick, and D23 (called the Frontier in Mexico). I don't like Ford's auto transmissions, and I wanted a manual, so that ruled out the Maverick. So it was between the D23 and the Hilux, put some money down on a new 4-cyl. D23 with a 6-spd manual.
My Navara ST-X is a 2018 manual i bought new. It's done 70000k, mostly hiway, round town driving and a bit of towing a jayco poptop camper offroad. So far i'm pretty happy with it and haven't had any issues(although a friends 2018 Navara just that turbo pipe issue replaced under warranty). You are right about the paint work(mines blue), its crap and scratches really easy. Also if you get bird or bat shit on the car clean it of immediately or it will ruin the paint. Make sure you get a handle guard or every time you open the door your finger nails will scratch the paint. My other gripe is the horn extends down to the bottom of the steering wheel and is easy it hit when turning a corner. ...and yes i thought the services were a bit long at 20000k so i do an oil change at 10000k I get 8.5l per 100k with the manual and is a lot more responsive to drive than the auto.......
Love your approach to reviews, the humour and the fact you're reviewing used vehicles! I've laughed countless times too when you say 'utalitarian' too, when I think you mean 'utilitarian' 😅
The Navara has potential, it's just frustrating Nissan have used crappy Renaut engines in them... its so hard to find the perfect vehicle. Soo many have compromises that just make no sense...
its either that or the older 2.5l YD25 ones that we have in Malaysia since 2004 although has improved. uses abit more fuel, abit rougher although said to be slightly more reliable. i wouldn't know. i'm not able to compare it myself to both
I had a second hand 2015 np300 with 130k kms and didn’t have a great experience with it. When it worked it was great, but the high pressure turbo blew up 8 months after owning it. Every car is different, but just make sure it’s had a good good service history
I have a 2019 N-Trek and it has been an awesome ute. I do some pretty hardcore 4WDing and it has handled everything I have thrown at it. In regards to fuel consumption, mine maintains an average of 9.6 L / 100 kms. To date I have not had a single mechanical problem.
I've always wanted to own a dual cab. Mainly to assert my manhood (I still loose cred at the pub as my Rugby experience ended at under 15s at Joeys). I became overjoyed and as giddy as a school girl, to find there is an option to pay an extra $50k for a Mercedes badge. Now I too can own a dual cab and Father won't write me out of the family trust. Hoorah.
Had a 2010 Pajero a few years ago and wanted a Ute so test drove the new Navara and was amazed her floaty and boat like it was. Was like driving a big sponge.
I'm a D40 owner, 2010 model. I personally love the look of the D40. Also, it's the only navara the you hear the turbo flutter. A proper stutututu not the pigeon sound you get the new models.
Started with an '09 ST-R, then a '12 ST and just purchased the '21 ST-X. Never had an issue. Good price, great car. A mate had huge issues with his '12 ST-X but I've also driven Rangers for work and had huge issues with them. PS love the ST-X.
Great review. Always wondered about the D23. Only knew 1 person who owned one, and he was more than happy with it. Never heard anything bad about them. They seem like a good honest vehicle and deserving of more love than they seem to get. And having a coil sprung arse end must be a massive advantage when it comes to ride comfort and handling.... 👍
yeah he didn’t really touch on that much, makes it extremely comfy. wish i still had my D23 but have a TD42 and goes much harder on the beach. the D23 was slightly underpowered for where i lived
It comes down to the person driving it. And where they drive it ...ive had the d22 and d40 and they've both done what i asked from them ...i dont need speed and able to climb a mountain ..nor do i need a lux interior to make me feel happy ...so when you buy a ute you buy what you personally like take into mind where you wanna take the ute in the future
I’m looking at getting my first Ute (i bit the camping bug during 2020). I had narrowed down to a Hilux, Triton or DMax. Went to a dealership here in Perth today and jumped in all 3. My fiancée said to me “lets jump into the Navara” - just for fun. My word, it was much more comfortable than the other 3. I’m 6’3 and it had good headroom and the backseat was probably the best of the lot.
I have a 2016 D40, been super reliable and a very capable machine, looking for a bit more refinement and comfort now, was thinking of an Amarok since the NY22 Navara is a bit above my pay grade and I didn't realise the D23 already had the coil spring suspension, recently found out and your honest and detailed review has just sold me as I am a Navara fan after years of good service from my beastie. Glad I know to look for the 3rd generation suspension tune now as I often tow a large boat or chuck 2 adventure bikes on the back or both at the same time, thanks for a great video.
My sl did it all. Camping, house moving, towing and on. Had turbo pipe leaks and one suspension replacement Under warranty. Mostly daily without looad. Best fuel economy i reckon among all 4x4 ute on the market. Cant fault the comfort especially front passager seat. Can fall asleep in 20mins everytime. I dont get back pain for 3hrs like in a Toyota (in 45mins)
Have owned Nav’s since 2012 from the D40 Spanish build followed by the first Gen NP300 2015 D23, to my latest 2020 N Trek warrior without any issues or complaints. Have a 22ft Haines Signature boat that weight around 2.5t so I fitted a set of airbags for around $500 that fixed the soft rear on the 2015 model but have found the N Trek’s premcar retuned suspension is doing the job without airbag’s. Have no problem recommending the NP300 D23 as an all rounder, but if your budget can stretch to an N Trek warrior and you fit a throttle controller you won’t be disappointed.
I love his classic quote, " I don't think this rear has been used very much", and then the wry grin... Good content with some old fashioned humour, keep it up please. 😊
Own one. Must add; Throttle controller, Air bags and Catch can. Never have it serviced at Nissan dealer (Ever). Can confirm paint is shit. Fuel economy is great but 6.2L is a dream. Centre console is the smallest in its class. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
yup. agreed the paintjob is too thin. as for fuel economy, it shines when u go for a very long long night drive. was able to clocked 800km using only 40L of diesel.
All the hate derives from Toyota fans who find it hard to deal with a manufacturer that makes just as good if not better 4x4’s and dont get ripped off! 😂 It’s like the good old battle between the Patrol and Landcruiser. Patrols are just stronger and generally cheaper. Navara’s are about 10k cheaper than a Hilux!! They also have the least amount of problems than any other d/can 4x4 in the market. Just my 2 cents. Highly recommend.
Absolute bullshit, speaking as a mechanic the last remotely decent Navara was the Japanese made D22, they have been utter garbage ever since. The only reason why anyone at all buys a Navara these days is because they are too cheap or foolish to investigate the alternatives. I hate them due to the grief they have caused me repairing them repeatedly, not to mention their unfortunate owners saddled with a lemon that constantly lets them down.
@@bears2604 nice projecting mate, but I am 41, with decades spent working on all manner of machines in several countries. A+ for you for being totally wrong in your pathetic guesswork 🤣👍😁
Great review, most reviewers are biased towards other brands. I have a 2018 Black Edition ST which has just been written off because of hail damage which kills me. Still prefer it to most other new utes on the market. I have used this for long drives, lugging and towing heavy shit around and tough 4x4 driving. Never missed a beat. Had a D40 before this for 7 years and the only thing that ever went wrong was a button falling off the radio which Nissan replaced under warranty. Only got rid of it because is was getting near the Ks of needing a timing chain. My next Ute will be another Navara. Not sure about the grill on the new model, the missing dash cup holders and no more 12v socket in the tub but loads of new safety tech. Maybe I’ve just been lucky if you believe all the bullshit written about Navaras but until I’m proved wrong, I’m going again
Just checking this video to see if I should get rid of my 2008 Navara and was surprised to hear that there was a load of issues with the D40 version. I've got 310,000kms on mine and got it with 35,000 on the clock. In that time the only issues I've had was a cracked turbo pipe, one foglight and new tyres and just servicing when it's supposed to. Haven't even changed the shocks or the clutch. Only issue I have is the paint is starting to fleck a bit of the bonnet and the fabric on the drivers seat is starting to wear through on the parts where you slide in and out.
Had the D40 and now the NP300. The D40 was a great Tonka toy although the 5 speed auto box and FM radio made it feel a bit agricultural at times. The NP300 is a fantastic daily driver, economical (ive had 49mpg on the motorway) and very comfortable but....its almost too car like which takes some of the fun away. Difficult to explain but that slightly rough edged pick up experience has been engineered out and sometimes I get out of the truck, take a few steps and look back to remind myself I have been driving a pick up. For most people though that will be a good thing. Ive got the 2016 model and dont need to carry lots of weight so for me the extra on road comfort adds to the refined feel of the vehicle on long journeys. I do miss the split folding rear seat and the removable floor storage but......the 7 speed auto box, dab radio and Sat nav, not to mention the 360 degree camera system more than off set this. Strangely and rather annoyingly, no auto wipers! Overall I love this vehicle and in my heart of hearts know that as a family lifestyle choice, this truck is perfect but....its my truck and 99% of the time I am the only one in it so I might try the Ranger or Amarok next as they have somehow retained that tough pick up image.
The scratchy plastic dash and small glove box is a killer. My 2015 model has the old head unit which does not handle glare at all. Love the rear window, socket in the tub, and great cupholders. Shame they stopped doing the fold down rear seat, wasted storage
I have had mine since 2018, zero problems at all. There are 2 more being used in a family company, also zero trouble. I can't understand the critisism, it is probably lack of marketing.
I had a gas leak and an overhaul was needed in the AC , Nissan dealer fixed as part of 5 year warranty , 850 euros. fuel consumption is good , average 7.5 km/100 KM . its my daily drive and it works for me
The AC on my 2019 NP 300 Spanish-built was faulty and degassed, as well as the fuel flap solenoid switch. Both fixed under warranty. Can't complain about a 5yr, 100,000 mile warranty!
I absolutely love my 2017 Navara STX. 1000% better than the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton I had previously. Haven't had any problems with the Nav, it's excellent in the sand and great off road. Only thing I wish it had was the 3.0lttd V6 that X-class has.
Standard they're pretty average. Aftermarket suspension was the first thing I did to mine then went to tow a car trailer and noticed it was lacking power going up hills and went to get it remapped. Went from 28psi boost making 140hp to 36psi making 185hp feels like such a better car now. Changed the turbo hot pipe and throttle body pipe over to ally stuff as the hot pipes have a shitty seal as mentioned and the standard throttle body pipes have a plastic sensor that blows out if you're towing and have the motor under load often. Standard headunit is a real prick sometimes when you're using apple carplay, constantly freezes and gets a 10 second delay when you press the screen. Took it into nissan and they did a hardware update on it now its been issue free. Had the headlight adjustment/leveling module get water in it and fry it but nissan covered it on warranty. Put in a difflock override switch so i can engage it in 2H or 4H and the car literally goes anywhere 4wding with the locker and coil rear. Overall its been an awesome car, series 4 bought in Feb 2020 brand new and now has 50,000km on it with no major issues and rear main still in tact surprisingly!
Bought brand new Navara in 2018. From day one the starter would fail to turn over once in every 100 attempts approx. Drivers window also proceeded to go slower than Brexit after month. Other than above I was happy esp with fuel economy and drive comfort.
A well presented review. I've owned my 2017 SL dual cab since new and rolled 100,000km. There's a couple of things I'd like to mention. They are economical IF you keep the original wheel and tyre package for road use, AT or mud tyres make a big change to on road fuel usage as does oversized tyres. 18:25 The difference on paper between the two terms of warranty is pointless, Nissan Australia are not familiar with the concepts of Warranty or Customer Service. 👎 Buy the car, take it away from the dealer and get a good independent mechanic to carry out your logbook servicing. It will cost you less, and dealership servicing won't help you come warranty time regardless. Oh, and I hope you were joking about the catch can thing 🙂 Fit an EGR blank plate, leave the PCV system standard and drive on happy with no intake build up.
why would anyone joke about fitting catch can?? the best thing you can do for a diesel.. leaving car factory and not modifying....better for car and upper head and manifold.....egr plate is wrong thing to do if you ask any mechanic
@@seanstrange69 I am a mechanic 👍 Absolutely no harm will come from allowing the tiny amounts of oil mist to enter the combustion chamber and burn away, vehicles have been doing this since the 60s. Pumpimg diesel soot back inside the cylinders is a completely different matter.
Was good to see Hullsy cracking jokes in his segment this week he should do it more often. Now that you've done the Navara you guys have basically done all the main utes in Australia now right? Just a thought for a video but why not do humble cars made famous and into cult icons by movies and tv shows? Good job guys and look forward to next weeks batch of videos.
I had one new about 2013/14 didn't keep it long had no trouble with it the Nissan dealership wasn't the best so had ex Nissan mechanic with his own business do the service work on it ... he actually told me they could be trouble when the warranty ran out so wasn't sorry to move it on after around two years.
Reputation is a fickle beast. People only tend to hear of the 'bad stories', or maybe the diehard fanbois. Rarely does the satisified consumer speak about it.. unless asked. So, for any noise about issues - there could very well be a plethora of highly satisfied customers who jsut, well, keep their mouths shut and enjoy. Me. I'm 6 years in with my STX that looks almost exactly like the one in this video. 100% trouble free motoring bar a recent battery change (hey, 5+ years as this type on consumable - cheering). I plan on driving it until it's been to the moon and back and literally dies... and then will more than likely buy the latest version of it.
I had a 2016 stx automatic at 120000km was still really good the only problem was the leather seats and I have just taken delivery of a 2022 stx manual and I’ll see how that goes
At 19:00 when you said "if you want an offroading beast, there are other utes on the market that can do it better", what ones would you say are better than the nav? I thought the coil rear would put it up near the top Cheers
I’ve had a 2017 dual cab from new. Had a suspension upgrade within a few months as sagged in rear end with my tool set up in back. Had to get electric water pump’s replaced and there is 2. $800. Had front indicator bulb go recently and basically had to remove the front grille to replace it.. have serviced every 10000 km
Thanks guys, very helpful. Get sick of all that "there shit, this is good talk" you end up with paralysis.

@19:40 this is very true, the BS never ends with “this pickup is garbage, get the other one”. They are direct competitors of each other. They are all susceptible to mechanical failures. Their performance, towing and price ranges are comparable.
Just bought one. Ride and on road handling are far superior to pretty much any of it's competitors in the mid teens. Coil springs, of course. Load carrying capacity, despite claimed capacity, is far inferior to many due to the coil springs. The is the primary reason I chose it over a much cheaper MQ Triton, coil spring ride and comfort and much better fitout. Realistically I paid a good 30% premium on a GLX+ and it was worth every penny. Fuel economy no way matches claimed, yet is still better than nearly all of it's competitors. On the highway it's almost midsize passenger car costs, figures around 7 litres per 100 km are easily achievable, but stop start with all that mass is gonna drag you up around 10 litres per 100 km. Performance wise, stock, that first turbo is a bit of a laggard. once the second turbo kicks in (or if you hike it or add a throttle controller) then they're actually a pretty quick unit for what they are. They're certainly not perfect, but every dual cab ute is a compromise, and these go the closest to SUV civility whilst still having ute flexibility and serious off road credentials. They do not win at any category, but they're never embarrassed in any category either. Deserve serious consideration. Test drive one for sure.
I have an 08(D40). Used to have a '16 D23 (sold). The D40 chassis is more solid in my opinion. Both 4x2 YD25. The D23's engine felt more energetic though.
Great segment as usual, wouldn't refrence automotive jurnalists all that much, they are a rare breed and more or less say what they are paid to say, but hey love your segments you always crack us up👍., Oh yeah to be honest I have yet to see or own a ute or any 4x4 that actually meet advertised consumption rates.

The 7 gear automatic in it is a masterpiece!!! Low fuel consumption ( we need below 7 liters) and very comfortable and harmonic.

Great post John
Thank you 👍🏻
A Novel… you must love it. Can you write cliff notes please 😂
Travelled from Scotland a few times into Adelaide and drove to Whyalla to see my brother-in-law. Would love to take my Navara over there
Well said sir.
No oil filter changes. Bloody mechanics. You must have been pis*ed.
I've had mine since 2017, and and use for my business in engineering, I can honestly say its the best vehicle I've ever had, ive done 127000 miles in it and the only thing failed was the battery at 99000 miles and that was replaced under warranty, it still drives as good as the day I bought it.
Haha waaah haha
Yep very reliable car! I’ve had mine since 2015. Currently at 225,000km. Changed 2 batteries. 5000km ago I encountered a problem with the thermostat braking and therefore coolant wasn’t getting through the engine. Fixed that and now it drives like a dream. Fingers crossed I can get it to 300,000km
Thank you this was help ful. I am in the market for one

Can confirm the back issues statement
What can of gas you put in it

@@AtlanticCrasher these don't have a CVT.

Not true, especially with that rubbish and underpowered engine. Triton is the BEST VALUE FOR MONEY.
Lol if you want to carry weight buy a truck why tf would anyone wants to buy a mid-size 4x4 to carry weight
@@user-kr1or1hm4v bur I'll loose bragging rights in the pub if I don't have the whole ARB catalogue bolted onto my ute with "1t payload" or "3.5t towing capacity"
Had mine for 18 months, 2017 model, 2WD ST. Absolutely love it. One thing you missed was the wind whistle from the wing mirrors at high speed
Gotta love the rear coil spring assembly for a better ride comfort tho ✌
I just bought a 2023 model and now watching reviews haha
No one wants to hear about your bitching😂
Otherwise a great reliable car to drive.
... thanky you for the good advice
great review - im not a nissan guy but was glad to get some clarity on the reliability of these vehicles
What do you mean air bags?
How many kms have you done in your nav?
Hey mate, I’ve seen every NP300 review on RUclips, and I really have seen a lot, also own np300 since 2017 (still love it), hands down best review video by far. Well done on the effort and details, you have done a fantastic job and clearly did a lot of research not just another cookie cutter review. 👌🏻 well done mate
Mate, thank you so much! That means a lot.
Glad you're still loving the NP300!
My other gripe is the horn extends down to the bottom of the steering wheel and is easy it hit when turning a corner.
...and yes i thought the services were a bit long at 20000k so i do an oil change at 10000k
I get 8.5l per 100k with the manual and is a lot more responsive to drive than the auto.......
Thank You.
Fuel consumption is due to the ev, using one on u4 setting a average sits less than 9.5 litres and a very comfortable setting
Great vid thanks
Can’t fault my 2016 STX Navara with aftermarket suspension upgrades. Absolute great all rounder.

As a Navara owner, I can confirm the Nissan Navara is VERY reliable! But its a workhorse, Don't expect driving appeal like that from a German SUV 😂
i have owned 2.. the only thing i dont like is the low hp to climb mountains on highway.... everything else sits good
yeah he didn’t really touch on that much, makes it extremely comfy. wish i still had my D23 but have a TD42 and goes much harder on the beach. the D23 was slightly underpowered for where i lived
I love my NP300, i take it in the high country every 2 weeks never had issues except i blow CVs
Best review I've ever seen. Honest informative and not boring
It’s like the good old battle between the Patrol and Landcruiser. Patrols are just stronger and generally cheaper.
Navara’s are about 10k cheaper than a Hilux!!
They also have the least amount of problems than any other d/can 4x4 in the market.
Just my 2 cents.
Highly recommend.
So true..

Love the humour through this video guys.
Owned 4X2 2018 model in the Philippines, nice comfortable ride , soft brake, cold aircon, nice handling, would prefer though an electric steering
I have a 2018 stx and absolutely love it
Just checking this video to see if I should get rid of my 2008 Navara and was surprised to hear that there was a load of issues with the D40 version.
Hi ,did your model come standard with the 360 degree camera or did you have it installed ? My 2015 STX only has rear view camera ! thanks
The scratchy plastic dash and small glove box is a killer. My 2015 model has the old head unit which does not handle glare at all. Love the rear window, socket in the tub, and great cupholders. Shame they stopped doing the fold down rear seat, wasted storage
agreed. the glove box and shitty plastic suck
I have had mine since 2018, zero problems at all. There are 2 more being used in a family company, also zero trouble. I can't understand the critisism, it is probably lack of marketing.

Nice one,
but whoosh over the colonials heads
Reason I've stuck for now with my older D40 Navara - the 3L V6 is in another league to the engines in the D23 :(
2018 4x4 auto, 110,000km . Has not skipped a beat. Put some proper 4x4 tires on it and you have a dream.
So you have to spend thousands of bucks to get it up to spec. Got it.

Buy the car, take it away from the dealer and get a good independent mechanic to carry out your logbook servicing.
It will cost you less, and dealership servicing won't help you come warranty time regardless.
Oh, and I hope you were joking about the catch can thing 🙂
Fit an EGR blank plate, leave the PCV system standard and drive on happy with no intake build up.
why would anyone joke about fitting catch can?? the best thing you can do for a diesel.. leaving car factory and not modifying....better for car and upper head and manifold.....egr plate is wrong thing to do if you ask any mechanic

Absolutely no harm will come from allowing the tiny amounts of oil mist to enter the combustion chamber and burn away, vehicles have been doing this since the 60s.
Pumpimg diesel soot back inside the cylinders is a completely different matter.

We still have Isuzu and Colorado to do mate, and then we get into stuff like the Tundra, various Ram models, even dual cab Ute Defender. - AK
@@ReDriven will you be doing the great wall and haval utes especially after the safe concerns raised by ancap recently on them?
Hullsy!?!?😂😂😂😂
@@adamfreeman7052 well it's better than calling him Jimmy plus Hullsy sounds more Aussie than Jimmy lol
its all talk til they drive one successor to the legendary d22 more than the infamous d40
I dont know why, but i like this guy 😍
It’s probably because of my shoes and watch collection. - AK
First time watching a redriven vid, I’m impressed with the “no bullshit” approach, great job!
Thanks for this review, honest with no bs. I’m considering getting ST 2.3L auto dual cab.
I have the 2014 3.0L turbo diesel v6. In my opinion its the best bakkie ever. I love it😁
Can’t wait to see when this channel makes AK enough to be the owner of all of the cars he wants to review
Oh Todd, me too mate!
Thanks for having so much faith in us getting there too. - AK
I’ve done 212,000 km.s ! I think it’s Great!.
I had a 2016 stx automatic at 120000km was still really good the only problem was the leather seats and I have just taken delivery of a 2022 stx manual and I’ll see how that goes
Like a 90s rock star. Wow! That’s gold
That’s a surprising philosophical ending there.
At 19:00 when you said "if you want an offroading beast, there are other utes on the market that can do it better", what ones would you say are better than the nav? I thought the coil rear would put it up near the top
Cheers
I’ve had a 2017 dual cab from new. Had a suspension upgrade within a few months as sagged in rear end with my tool set up in back. Had to get electric water pump’s replaced and there is 2. $800. Had front indicator bulb go recently and basically had to remove the front grille to replace it.. have serviced every 10000 km
You've slowed down your talking, much more relaxed, big and better difference- great vid 👍
Interior pretty good as for a PickUP. YES YES.
My experience, it is better as an off roader than other utes, they may be marginally better elsewhere but definitely not off road
Had my series 2 for 4 years, not one issue.
Cheers for the info mate. Easy to watch and understand. Thanks champion.
Cheers Gary. - AK
Sounds like the truth. That’s all we need really.
Great honest review, with obvious experience. Good English too 🙂. I'll stick to my 2003 Shogun 3.2 auto lwb elegance. 💪
