Thanks for a good test. I preferred the Navara on my purchase and is very happy with my choice. Yes, the infotainment system really can do with a massive improvement and the ride is a bit more choppy on tar and the engine is noisy. For me the deciding factors were 1= Reliability, 2= ranking on theft and high jacking list. Fact is with Ford’s reputation and known incidents were Ford Rangers’s owners had problems and Ford that would do anything in their power to slide the blame to the owner in staid to man up and assist their client, I wouldn’t risk buying a Ford. On the highjack and theft list, Ford Ranger is no.1 with Toyota Hi-lux 2nd. Thanks for a good program and an excellent review.
I have a 2016 NP300 Navara with the YD25DDTi engine, after three years, the van is flawless and still works like new, and it is really quicker than the big 3.2l Ford, I get between 850-900kms on a tank of diesel but I can get 1000plus kilometers if I go for very long drives. I think I’ll stick with the Nissan.
I’m in the USA market. I am on my second Nissan Frontier here and I been happy with the truck. My first I sold with 230,000 miles and was still running good. The buyer was happy. My second one it’s 2017 with the 4.0 V6 and it has a screaming engine. I wish we had diesel options here. Navarra for me.
I struggled with the same comparison a couple of years back before I bought the NP300. The wildtrack has better water fording 800mm vs 450mm, more 12v sockets 4 vs 3 and slightly more ground clearance 230mm vs 220mm. Those are easy enough to fix with aftermarket accessories. However the NP300 has better turning radius 12.4m vs 12.7m, better fuel economy, was 16K USD cheaper at time at purchase, had rear air-conditioning and heating and most importantly was offered with engine variants that could run euro 4 grade fuel (YD25DDTi) especially in remote places where fuel quality can be a concern; while still offering better power to weight and torque to weight ratio than the wildtrack. The wildtracks clear advantages were easy enough to make up for with after market parts costing less than the price difference. The extra A/C, the euro4 fuel rating, and the better turning radius can not easily be made up. The wildtrack is a fantastic machine, but for me; the NP300 made more sense.
Not to mention ford's maintenance. Altho you dont buy a car without accounting for future expenses, ford is really expensive to maintain. BUILD FORD TOUGH MAINTENANCE
Ive got the same 2.3l biturbo in my Renault Master, done 210.000km in 16months now, great engine, not a single failure yet and i think its got the best fuel economy in its class, at least for transporters.
Ciro. Dont forget alot of people use the vehicle's for overlanding and at times do load up to 500 kg on the back. Dont forget about Alu Canopies and drawers, water tanks and long range fuel tanks. Others even use it on farms and construction sights. Contrary to popular believe they not all only mall crawlers. So thank you for loading 500 kg on the back and thanks for a great review. Im sure alot of us really appreciate it.
I've never seen a top spec double cab do these things you mention. Mainly the single cab versions or more utilitarian double cab versions but not these.
All depends on what circles you find yourself in and how much research you willing to do I guess. So lets agree to disagree on this part of your statement. With regards to your "[t]op spec", its important to note that here in RSA the underpinnings of the vehicles are still the same its only the interior that's different to give you the "[t]op spec". So even if you want to take the "[l]ow spec" this video will still be relevant to you.
High Seaz Fishing Yes but how do you really know the Navara is reliable? The Ford has been tested year in and year out . I say until the Navara is thoroughly tested for a decade it’s a to be continued ...
Quit buying nonsense....Ford makes as good and better trucks...the new Tacoma's BURN OIL when going up steep hills!...blue smoke and pinging on BRAND NEW ENGINE! ...garbage...
From Belgium here! I bought a Nissan Navara D23 tekna 2019, like the one in the video. Manual transmission and I love it! It's as practical and functional as it needs to be. It's very muscular by looks. I love it! The Ford Ranger looks vulgar, an imitation attempt of the bigger F150. Rangers are bought mainly by families, used for trips or pulling trailers. I've NEVER seen a Ranger used for serious duty, only Hilux and Navara are used for serious duty. Navaras here in Belgium have a favourable reputation, used by families and companies, for serious duty, pulling trailers, construction, haulage, or long trips! Excuse me if I seem biased towards the Navara, but I'm not biased, I chose it because it was near to perfect value for money. Ford has obnoxiously expensive kit and options, and here in Belgium and most non-anglophone countries, Ford has very bad customer service.
I own a 2017 Navara and my average fuel consumption is 9.0l per 100 in 14k km I also did a trip this summer and drove about 450km with 1 stop and 200kg on the back and got an average of 7.6 fuel consumption is really good. Edit: also ranger may look better to some people (I like the navara better) but witch of the 2 is gonna look better in 5 or so years? The navara.
We have two ford rangers, 2014 and 2017.. i have to say the 2017 has a lot more power and is more comfortable than the 2014.. the suspension with the 2017 is a lot better than the 2014.. and i agree that the engine with ford is a lot softer than the navarra.. both ranger has a 100 thousand odo but so far it has no issues and runs softly.. with a strict maintenance of oil change (full synthetic) every 10,000 km ofcourse.
+Timothy-I'm from the US so I'm not familiar with what is available in this area of the world...what is he talking about when he said "Raptor Kits"? Is that some sort of aftermarket kit to bolt on to a stock truck to make it look like a Raptor? Or is that an actual Ford Raptor Ranger that I've hear about? Thanks.
My Sons own each of these. Navara 2016 and Ranger 2013, I am very impressed with the Navara engine, instant torque compared to the new Triton work ute ( Huge turbo Lag) The ranger is the same just heaps of torque from little revs. I will be purchasing one of these at the end of the year and it is down to the SL Navara or the XL Ranger, both 40k drive away. I would agree with the Navara infotainment seems a last decades tech. See what happens I guess.
I have a Ford and a Nissan , f150 and a frontier . They are both phenomenal but my Ford is quite better in many ways... and I know an f150 is in a different class than the Frontier . With that said: 2004 Ford F-150- Parts needed repaired- 180k tranny rebuild Standard oil changes Front Brakes rebuilt 2007 Nissan Frontier- Parts needing repaired- 88k miles tranny rebuild Power steering leaking/ hoses Front wheel bearings replaced All brakes rebuilt/ replaced Standard oil changes Paint defects at 100k Drivers seat material ripped/worn 100k All in all they’re both good trucks, but my Ford is actually more reliable!
If your I Asian country buy Asian cars.. If your in Europe or other countries buy Ford.. Reason is availability of parts.. Between the two I choose navara..
I have had several Nissan Navara Tekna D40 double cabs, all automatic. I now have a Ford Ranger Limited double cab with auto. Not very much to choose between them but the Ford is definitely much better on the road - I've driven sports cars that don't have such a good front end. The Nissan has a slightly bigger and therefore more powerful engine, and that is the only differences - the choice is your. I use mine in construction and forestry, plus I tow a trailer as well, the Nissan was 175hp and the Ford 155hp, the 3.2 engine in the Ford just drinks too much fuel, by the way i am in the UK.
I have a Navara and i'll choose it every time, do not forget the fuel consumption, i do like 8 to 10L/100Km !! a friend have the new ranger and he is doing 14L/100Km !!
That's why I brought a Mazda BT50, 9.2l/100km and thats 40/60 city/hwy average with 1/2 ton onboard lol you just can't beat larger capacity engines none stressed with loads , its manual so it's a little cheaper to run than the automatic versions.
Palpac : Not quite the same thing ,they share similar components in chassis, suspension etc and the engines are the same displacement but there bore and stroke are different, they use different size turbochargers and engine management systems. The Mazda has a stiffer suspension setup for its higher weight loading in it tub , but it handles better when pushed along on the open road due to Mazda’s suspension tune , but it’s ride is a little firmer than the ranger. They do have there differences between them.
Nissan navara - very reliable comfort + more power on a little engine torque. Manual or automatic Ford Ranger - revs to loud which equals to more fuel consumption less torque. Manual gearbox doesn't last. So automatic is more relevant. Nissan navara is the winner on road or off road.
Load capacity for Ford is limited on paper for procedural reasons so the total mass of vehicle with load does not pass 3.2t which is class limit in some countries. It can carry way more than that. I amnregularly loading it over a ton and never had an issue...
As an American who is moving to Kenya later this year and having my house built very far into the African bush, these are the 2 trucks I'm looking into. I only wish I could bring my 2016 F150 from the USA to there but Kenya regulations won't allow a LHD vehicle. Thank you for doing this comparison.
Hi there, very interesting! If you are willing to bring the F150 to South Africa, there are a few companies here who specialise in the conversion to RHD of American pick-ups and muscle cars.
Cars.co.za I would absolutely love to do that but found out that Kenya won't even allow converted vehicles. They have to have a vin number showing rhd from the factory. So..... I'm left to figure out how to sell this amazing truck and then downsize. We're going to be using whatever we get as a rescue vehicle, as we are building a rescue home for orphans and battered women on our land. The size and power of it were perfect for the off-road needs, rescuing and supply runs but the laws are so strict.
I have been driving my Wildtrak and with 1 3.2Liter Engine, consumption is not an issue. I have 10Km/liter as an average in City Traffic Driving and 11Km/Liter on Highway Long Driving. My only complaint though is the Airconditioning of the Ranger, it is very slow in cooling, unlike the Nissan.
Hi I own a Nissan np 300 and it works great for me it runs like hell I beat a Toyota Hilux and a ford ranger in a street race am from Trinidad and Tobago West Indies
Even here in Australia the Ranger wins the reviews and tests . But the Navara and Hilux and Triton and Amarok are very popular . I own a 2014 D40 ST-X Navara 6 speed manual . I love it its been great 60000ks no problems . I have a 2015 Ranger 6 speed auto 2.2ltr diesel as company car 50000k no probs , it drives better in some ways but I love my Nissan . I am due to upgrade next year for my personal car . From what I have driven and the reviews I see , its Ranger first , Amarok second . I would will buy the best deal I get . I still love my Navara .
I agree. I like ranger than navarra in terms of interior design and other features. Riding comfort has no significant difference. I have tested driving both of them, for me ranger is better than navarra except for the price.
Displacement is a factor in some countries, more engine, more tax for registration.. Thats why almost no one buys ford here.. Navara on the other hand is quite popular
@@rukurirojanda5566 I thought he basically said the Navara was dog rough ?? I have have to say we had a fleet of Nissan 4x4s at work and they were nothing but problems as they got older , the worst we'd ever had , we went back to Ford it was a bit embarrassing really after they fcuked Ford off for the cheaper Nissans to start off with !
That wasn't off-road enough and the cars were driven as if they were gonna break. Not enough abuse. So we still don't know their limits and capabilities
Yeah, every time I try to go buy shopping they are always out of the 1/2 ton water option.. I suppose I am still quite new to the larger 4 x 4 market. (2015 got my first 4 x 4) Freelander TD4....it had good reviews in Which that I read up on first and I haven't been disappointed with it but now would like to try something bigger. Initially I have to say I prefer the Navara.. Lovely scenery too.. My personal perception looking at the Ford is it was probably hastily designed and built (purely as a knee jerk reaction) on a rather drizzly cloudy Monday morning in a UK Northern town backwater by people only half awake called Nigel … who mostly had missed an urgent Opticians appointment somewhere?.... … Just so Ford could say... there we woke up and created an opposition vehicle which at first glance could appear to suggest we have done our bit to appear to remain competitive and it's only if you look closer you will realise our heads were involved a dozy 99.9% but our hearts n souls mucho less than that.. I think the American Fords look great on the hole.. very chunky.. but not this version.. The Ford just isn't as chunky imposing as the Navara. Maybe it's a female version and just slightly less big boned? If you want to really understand what I mean by that then look at a photo of a male and female Boxer dog sat next to each other.. The female is taking up slightly less room than the chunkier male... Or like the Hobbits at the Inn of the Prancing Pony where three of the four have half pint tankards and one ends up with a pint tankard.. it's like right that will suit me a lot better..
As an american, I find this incredibly entertaining! Are you saying "Buggie" or "Buckie"? Do you guys have full size trucks like the F-150 or Titan or just these little guys? We currently have neither but I'm anxious for the 2019 Ranger! Hopefully we will get one with the 2.7l V6 TT ecoboost!
+Luke Choudek Hi there Luke! So over here we call pick-ups "bakkies", it's an Afrikaans slang term that refers to the load bed. It's so funny how you say "little guys" - these bakkies are basically the largest cars on the road here! These are the biggest bakkies on sale, currently. Ford did sell the F250 here a few years ago for a limited drive but it requires the driver to have a heavy vehicle license. The Ranger and Navara etc can be driven with a standard passenger car license. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
That's pretty cool, my daily driver here in Minnesota is an F-350 with 6.7L V8 Powerstroke diesel, no special license required, that is why I say "little guys". The midsize trucks are becoming more popular in the big cities here (Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit) simply because they are "small" and easier to park!
+Luke-I'm also anxious for the US Ranger. It should hopefully be rolling out close to this time next year for the 2019 model year. I had a Ranger back in the 80's and loved it. I now have a 2004 F-150 that I bought new. It's getting some years on her now and I'm considering the Ranger. I like having the full size capability of the F150 but the smaller Ranger would work as I don't do much hauling any more. Does anyone know how close the upcoming US model will be to the one featured in this video? Or, anyone know of any big differences? I would love to see Ford bring a diesel to the US market but I would choose an EB.
Dewy Russ i assume it would be a departure to the one seen here. Ford already has a diesel for the F-150. Im beating the will use the same unit on the Ranger. Maybe with a slight "detune". I mean it would make financial sense to scale the technology. Plus the Colorado diesel is selling well.
Prosper Sithole yes, he should be comparing the ranger limited 2.2L with the np300. Actually I'm shocked he didn't use the wildtrack like the rest do! Ranger = 28mpg np300 = 38mpg
Yes but it's true though... He did gave facts... Don't mind what the presenter is saying in his opinion just listen to the facts that they tested... To be true here the Navara is more for comfort than workhorse...
Just a pity that Ford does not have the service back up to the likes of Nissan. They may claim 5 year warranty, but there is a lot in the fine print that Ford does not cover...
how do you guys work out the fuel consumption? heavy foot or light foot driving? cause I could always help you guys out with the heavy foot driving ;-)
you have to buy the right truck for where you live and what its used for. go by what its used for rather than motor reviews. All disel engines have issues, all makes have their lemons. you will either get a great one or a one that causes you constant issues. this is all manufactures period. an outback truck or truck for wild africa is going to be different to what would suit uk roads and the 5 minutes you may be off road. if your nit bothered what it does just buy the one you like the look of.
Seems to me like you were looking for any Navara flaws to give it to the ranger. That thing is 300-400 kilos more, even the latest 2.0 biturbo has less power to mass ratio than navara. The Navara is more comfy over long rides, especially in the back where leaf springs can be felt more. Navara has a better cut. The things you pointed out, in less than a week of ownership they dont count. In this category it is negligible, and quite unforgiveable to those which pretend to be SUV like when they are just make-up and eyelashes what what. That said, the ranger is good in its way, but you are biased from the start.
FORD= Fix Or Repair Daily. Reliability issues hounding the company through the years. Even Henry Ford himself admitted there's something wrong with the brand itself. And its encircled bigtime!
Thank you for sharing this. I am actually myself in the process where I have difficulties to choose between the Navara and the Ranger. The Navara I am looking at is a Trek-1 and currently there is a drive on these that sets it way under the Ford when it comes to price.. I am not to happy about the infotayment system you showed but I wonder, did you have it in RDS mode. I noted the TA or PY button was off - perhaps this is why you did not get the station names displayed. Another thing is the last 20 years of Ford Quality reputation. In my country (Sweden) Ford has a known reputation not living up so well to quality. They nearly destroyed the repuation of Volvo for the years they owned it. Examples is to replace important wear stuff with cheap plastic like the wheel bearings. Normally you would replace wheel bearings on a car about every 200 000 ±30000 Km. In Sweden many Fords as well as Volvos made during the Ford era you have to replace them already at 80 000 Km. So, Thank you for your test - I am still not sure what to buy but you got me thinking. br Magnus
For price and value of the money NISSAN is for me: -Smaller engine with more power ratio vs Ford, more fuel efficient, etc. -Coil suspension may not be coping well with loads but you don't load much everytime you drive. Ford are overpriced and you'll get more headaches 6-8 years after.
Good viewing, as always. Thanks for also mentioning the special dam. You use them as background to your videos a lot. Just a comment/query about the claim of "biggest... dam when it was built, a hundred years or so ago.." - This seems to be the Backsberg Top Dam. Woodhead Dam on Table Mountain is much "bigger" (however you choose to measure the size of dams) and was completed in 1897. So maybe the friendly marketing people at Backsberg should provide some more supporting information.
Thanks for a good test. I preferred the Navara on my purchase and is very happy with my choice. I struggled with the same comparison a couple of years back before I bought the NP300. Ford better trucks? Some ford standby because of lack of spare parts..high maintenance...Lol
Ranger = 10 years
Nissan Navarra = 15-20 years
It depends how you use it but I recommend Navara
😁 hi guys I am proud to follow car.co.za from Verona Italy 😉
Watching here from the Philippines!
Have I understood that correctly?
Both can pull 3.5T, the ford can load little under 1T and the nissan can load little over 1T.
Right?
From Belgium here!

the datsun navara may have corroded away in 5 years of so, you can still get ford escort mark 2s around 30 years old

Good review guys - not at all biased, good going.
Ford service and maintenance in Thailand are poor.I will buy NP300 in this month.

I'll go for Navara 👌👌
Good report guys thanks
Ciro (the presenter) is awesome. 😄
Hi I own a Nissan np 300 and it works great for me it runs like hell I beat a Toyota Hilux and a ford ranger in a street race am from Trinidad and Tobago West Indies
Im also from Trinidad. How long you had the Navara? What model? Any sort of issues?
Yeah those engines are very fast and powerful
navara is better more better in terms of comfort than ranger, big problem in rangers turbo, it breaks out
Exactly the problem of ranger
Off Course, Navara, the best..!
didnt he just do a test of them ??
and ranger was best !
@@gatti493 navara is best
In my own perspective
@@rukurirojanda5566
I thought he basically said the Navara was dog rough ??
I have have to say we had a fleet of Nissan 4x4s at work and they were nothing but problems as they got older , the worst we'd ever had , we went back to Ford it was a bit embarrassing really after they fcuked Ford off for the cheaper Nissans to start off with !
@@gatti493 wow
That wasn't off-road enough and the cars were driven as if they were gonna break. Not enough abuse. So we still don't know their limits and capabilities
FEESO DLAMINI the rangers are stronger in the chassis than the Navara
Its not cars it’s trucks 😆
Or like the Hobbits at the Inn of the Prancing Pony where three of the four have half pint tankards and one ends up with a pint tankard.. it's like right that will suit me a lot better..
good video 视频很棒 加油
Nissan for me
Would have loved to see this head to head test between the Hilux and the Ranger.
One of the best Cars.co.za head to head reviews.
Plus the Colorado diesel is selling well.
great job
this presenter is very biased you can tell he likes the ford more and says little bout the Nissan
Prosper Sithole yes, he should be comparing the ranger limited 2.2L with the np300. Actually I'm shocked he didn't use the wildtrack like the rest do!
Ranger = 28mpg
np300 = 38mpg
Ugh...
Yes but it's true though...
He did gave facts...
Don't mind what the presenter is saying in his opinion just listen to the facts that they tested...
To be true here the Navara is more for comfort than workhorse...
You clearly did not watch the full video ...
Hola, cuál es mejor?
Just a pity that Ford does not have the service back up to the likes of Nissan. They may claim 5 year warranty, but there is a lot in the fine print that Ford does not cover...
And the seat belt?
It’s like having a fast car, if my car can do 300 I’m dam doing it at some point lol
For these trucks are there the gasoline option as well?
Nissan is the best for me
If your using a pickup for a hard workhorse buy a ranger...
But if your using more for comfort buy a Navara...
this new ranger is paper-made junk, take a look at the frame/suspension and you'll never consider it to buy
Roman Tkachuk well to be real not for me in that case I have a 2017 ford ranger wildtrack and its coping nicely.
Roman Tkachuk I mean for hard workhorse buy a ranger cause it can handle more payload than the navara
@@trezythirdy3527could ranger load or fully loaded on what his capacity.? 1 ton you couldn't put on pick up truck...
I'll go for Navara
how do you guys work out the fuel consumption? heavy foot or light foot driving? cause I could always help you guys out with the heavy foot driving ;-)
This seems a little biased
you have to buy the right truck for where you live and what its used for. go by what its used for rather than motor reviews.
Has anybody here seen a comparison video where these trucks are actually tested as work vehicles (with payload of around 1 ton)?
Always power, power, power argument will see if f they still running in 10 years time
I have a Ford and a Nissan , f150 and a frontier . They are both phenomenal but my Ford is quite better in many ways...
Where is this
Ranger
Navara faster than ford ranger...
FORD= Fix Or Repair Daily. Reliability issues hounding the company through the years. Even Henry Ford himself admitted there's something wrong with the brand itself. And its encircled bigtime!

Nice vid but securing the load is another thing.. 🤭
Both are good
Ranger will just drink a bit more juice
2.3 vs 3.2? common man..
I have an fx4 I bought it at Oct 2016
Owned 2 Navara’s in the past. 2,5LE and the VX9, Will not buy one again!
Well but in safetyness RANGER WINS
Makes no sense to me why nissan bolts coil springs onto a solid Axel & think its going to make any difference than leaf springs.
I have an european Tekna Navara and my infotainment system is completely different...
I agree with you Nissan Navara is better

Magnus
Thanks for watching. We hope we helped a little bit. Good luck with your purchase and let us know what you decide.
For price and value of the money NISSAN is for me:
-Smaller engine with more power ratio vs Ford, more fuel efficient, etc.
-Coil suspension may not be coping well with loads but you don't load much everytime you drive.
Ford are overpriced and you'll get more headaches 6-8 years after.

I have problem with my 6r80 transmision
3.2 vs 2.3 who will win???
FORD WIN THE LEADER THE MIGHTY CHAMPION
Idling around an easy farmtrack gives no info at all
3.2 vs 2.3 liter is not comparable. Navara's fuel consumption and taxes are better. 2.2 ranger vs 2.3 navara competition could be fairer.
2.3 navarra and the 2.0 ranger
Ford lok more premium and tough
Good viewing, as always.
Thanks for also mentioning the special dam. You use them as background to your videos a lot. Just a comment/query about the claim of "biggest... dam when it was built, a hundred years or so ago.." - This seems to be the Backsberg Top Dam. Woodhead Dam on Table Mountain is much "bigger" (however you choose to measure the size of dams) and was completed in 1897. So maybe the friendly marketing people at Backsberg should provide some more supporting information.
Performance testing that does not include output/performance vs. input/cost/Fuel-Consumption is incomplete.
Ford Baby I have Ford Everest And i love it So much ♥️ love that Ranger Too♥️
Love how he pulls on the straps and say "thats so much better" - useless
Ford ranger.....always looks like a lion
Ranger Raptor got announced. Every Ranger is gonna have bad aftermarket Raptor kits this time next year.
Think the comparison wasn't biased at all the guy did a perfectly honest review the ford was better overall
I vote for ranger.
