every country has a dark side but what bothers me is that many refused to believe Korea has a dark side of its own, thanks to k-drama and k-pop, they genuinely believe everything is as "colourful".

@@khushboogulati2130 That's an amazing question. I wish I had the time now to give it the answer it deserves. I really enjoy Korea, my wife is Korean, her family has been so very accepting of me, and our Children. We all love our visits there, and one of my nieces came to live with us and go to school here. I did have an experience where I thought a young girl was being racist towards me, but looking back I realize she was just too shy to try and speak with me. It was too much to expect of a stranger in a very public place. But these people here who think Korea needs to change are being silly, until Korea has a large population of another race, it's just not a problem needing a solution. It's the same everywhere and that's just how people are.

Yes.. this is true.. but they are still a very misognistic society. Men rule . I watched a video yesterday about some guy being slapped thrice across the face by his boss (in real life.. not kdrama) ... the explanation is that South Koreans are taught from young to respect, not to backchat, to take punishment .. and then one day they just snap and that is where this "violence" eminates from and hence it is across the culture.

I’m from America, so trust me, I’m not judging South Korea or pointing a finger because I know my country has LOTS of issues as well BUT the difference is, in America there are ways to go about seeking justice and forcing people to correct their errors. Discrimination based on race is illegal in America but in South Korea, restaurants and clubs can literally say “No foreigners”….but when Koreans travel to America, they don’t expect to be treated that way. If a store or restaurant in America said “no Koreans” the world would lose its mind. I know these issues take place in other Asian countries as well but saying something like “it’s worse in Japan” is dismissive. Police didn’t come out even though they insisted they sent officers to search the area for the pricks day later I got a call from the officer about any updates told me they didn’t have any suspects and but they did have a car reg on that night while I was with the woman I started to do some investigating shit on FB and remember the little prick called his mate by his name so I typed in his name on Facebook and location of area and funnily enough there the prick was went on his friends list and there was the other guy told the police the names and what did they do? “That’s great we’ll definitely look into this” Did they fuck nothing happened. To this day when I hear shit like this and the results of law enforcement it pisses me off to no end because if I had not been there this woman would definitely had been kidnapped. This woman was also a work colleague of mine. Sorry for the vent but needed to get that shit out.
As a Korean male I agree 100% with everything you have said. Worst part is that this stuff is so normalized (cause everyone does this) that the authorities dont see it as an issue (i.e. rape victims are easily dismissed). Be especially mindful of the nightlife there as most Korean males there will be thinking on the lines of "If you're not here to hook up why are you here?". I would also like to suggest any foreigners travelling there to try and not get into conflict with a Korean citizen as the law will not be on your side. Be aware but dont be afraid as it is still a wonderful country to visit.
Last time I checked RAPE IS ALWAYS WRONG. It's a good policy to stay out of countries where rape is a hobby. One has to ask what is wrong with men???? Yours is not the first video I've seen on this subject. Australia 60 minutes did a whole program on how common gang rape is in Korea. It seems like a terribly sad insecure culture, where conformity is the mindset of the herd. And I experience the "bystander syndrome" here in Hawaii. The first week I moved here I saw a nasty car accident where the offender took off. The girl whose car was hit was damaged and everyone just stood around looking like zombies, doing nothing. So I ran over to her to see if she needed medical help and called 911. I was in shock because where I come from, Boston, everyone rushes to aide or help. Not the case here.....just saying. I'm from the UK and whilst I was travelling in Australia, a South Korean guy at my hostel approached me and asked to hang out. He was travelling alone and he was trying to make friends with people. His English wasn't very good and I could see that he struggled to start conversations with other people. I wasn't attracted to him but I did want to help him make friends. He suggested on the first day we met that we go to a nearby pub. When we got there, he insisted that he buys me a pint of beer. I declined his offer and repeatedly told him that I don't drink alcohol (I dislike the taste of alcohol) but he bought me a pint of beer anyway. Over the corse of an hour, I took several sips of the beer to be polite but he kept insisting that I drink more. Then when we were leaving the pub, he pointed to a bench outside in a quiet area as he wanted to chat some more. Just as we both sat down on the bench, he forcefully PULLED my head towards his for a kiss. It was aggressive. In shock, I quickly ducked my head and asked him wtf. His personality suddenly changed. He shouted "I bought you beer!" whilst looking very angry and entitled. I tried to explain to him that I wasn't interested in him and that buying me a beer doesn't mean he gets to do anything to me but he didn't understand my explanation and walked off angrily. I was always confused by the fact that he truly believed buying someone a pint of beer is a trade for sexual favours. Now I understand, from watching this video, that he probably believed the false stereotype about Western women. Thank you for the video 🙂
I don't pick sides but maybe you were misleading him and not know it. In most Asian countries, even those who are generally less racist and really friendly the perception about the sexuality of people from western countries is skewed. Most immediately will generalize that if you are from a western country, regardless of race you are more likely to be sexually active. i feel like more korean celebrities should speak up about this issues considering their major influence within korea and internationally. but unfortunately even when female idols are suspected to be a feminist, they are attacked and put down for their views… there needs to be more people talking about these issues so more people can speak up about them
I dont think they can, did you see the hate Naeun from apink got for having a phone case that said girls can do anything or something similar? Anything feminist related or barely adjacent will be seen as anti men, as the most infamous types of feminists in korea are misandry leaning, so they assume anything feminist is anti men. I think that is why they also never speak up about many social issues unless they regard children and are not super controversial. Like the one where that little baby was abused by her adoptive parents, and the one boat tragedy. My country isn't as backwards thinking like this in terms of speaking up, but you can go a little into the rural areas and it could be very risky to even insinuate women are not slaves to men. So I can understand the fear especially if it is not socially acceptable to speak up about these things.
Most Korean celebrities (especially idols) are like products that are edited, beautified and monitored. They don't have a voice or opinion and many can't even tell you important things about themselves such as if they are religious or believe in certain things because that will make them lose following. An exception might be old idols that became established but even they are restricted. How can companies profit out of selling a fantasy human when their human lectures their fans on real-life problems?

Yes they do. But the fantasize that Korean Men are like K-Drama and when the hit reality then they know that everyone is the same, there are good and bad people in all countries and that's it.
@@SPC2000 No, not all foreigners fantasize dating ANY Korean males. They only fantasize dating their K-Pop oppas (artists). Some friends of mine fangirling their actors/music artists, but they know what's real and what's not. I do get your point though...

In college, I lived in international student housing with mostly Korean men. As a Southeast Asian and a woman, I cannot emphasize enough how much this experience soured my impression of Korean men. I still know several lovely respectful Korean guys, but those are the ones who had deep early exposure to other culture (gyopos, guys who grew up abroad, Queer guys who seek out progressive media). The guys who were born and bred in Korea were so disrespectful to women and got away with it because the media shaped their impression as a handsome charming Korean man. If a woman was pretty to them, she would be sexualized and (worst case) physical boundaries would be crossed. If a woman was not pretty to them, they wouldn't even be treated like a person. I used to think they were my friends. Then our English got better and my Korean got better, and without the language barrier I realized what their uncensored opinions are. I'm not the type to stereotype so I would never write off a person for their nationality, but internally I can't help but be cautious when I meet a Korean man now. And I feel bad for any lovely Korean women who normalize this because they think it's their only option.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that... colourism is still a huge issue in Asia unfortunately. And yeah, it's sad to think korean women think it's how guys would "normally" react and as women they wouldn't have any other option when in fact the behaviour of those korean men is disgusting
My mom had very similar experiences with Korean men when she was younger and she is south Asian. It’s really sad to hear and I’m sorry you’ve been in these situations
I cannot allow for a guy (s) to take a drunk girl "home". I have interfered quite a few times in New York to make sure a girl that I don’t know get to her home safe. I don’t play that shit and I don't care what race you are. You will get home safe on my watch. Period! Thank you so much for telling the dark side of SK. I've been watching a lot of true crime stories that happened in SK and it ain't cute. Quite horrific!
Also about the teaching jobs in Korea, some got jobs at those high end parts of Seoul to teach english to kids there and were provided "housing", they say there were cameras in their homes, they were immensely mistreated and were basically told to stfu if they had experienced assault from their bosses etc so yep, no race is really safe when it comes to that in certain regions in Sk🙂
If you were to die today, are you a 100% sure you will go to heaven? If no, here is what the bible says, (1) Romans 3:23 KJV [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Q1. Do you know what Sin is? Sin is anything bad that we have done. Q2. Have you sinned before? Yes or No? (2) Revelation 21:8 KJV [8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Because we have sinned, and God does not allow Sin into Heaven, the punishment is burning hell. What is the way to reconcile our peace and relationship with God? Q3. Do you know the Story of Jesus? (3) Romans 5:8 KJV [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus = God who lived up in Heaven, but he came down on earth and became a man like us, he lived for 33.5 years without committing any sin. Then there were certain people who were jealous and therefore framed him on phony charges, and crucified him. Then he was buried and resurrected on the third day; Now he lives in HEAVEN. Q4. Do you know why Jesus went through all this bloody mess for us? A4. As mentioned, our sin is the reason why we can’t go to heaven, and the only thing that can wash away our sin is the Blood of Jesus. (4) Romans 5:9 KJV [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. According to the bible, the only way for us to reconcile with God is through Christ Jesus’s blood, and not through any works that we do or merits we accumulate, such as water baptism, attending church, or any good thing that we do. The following verses clearly support this. (5) Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. (6) 2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. In order to get saved, repentance of one’s sin is needed to get saved, we need to be sorry, and repent, with conviction, that we are a wretched sinner. (7) Romans 10:9 KJV [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. If you truly do believe in everything you have heard in the gospel, ,I strongly suggest you to make a proclamation to GOD! You can say it to God in less than 15 seconds !Repeat after this simple prayer, to make sure you truly get saved. Remember repeating this prayer doesn't save you, it's you telling God you BELIEVE THE GOSPEL. Ok, here is the prayer : ‘Dear GOD, I know I am a sinner, as I repent, I put my faith, that Jesus is GOD, and that he died, buried and resurrected, so that his blood, can wash away my Sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’s holy name, I pray. Amen! Congratulations ! Now you are a child of God. hey, just a guy here who's thinking about moving to korea after university from the US. This is really insightful and its true that not many people have spoken out like you have here about the societal norms in korea. but the other comments are on point, duly noted and I'll make sure to see something and say something
@@michaelbanh4000Hey I’m from a country that was oppressed by imperial Japan and used as comfort women and I’m telling you that is not an excuse and it’s definitely not the reason why Koreans are racist. Don’t use that as an excuse to hurt others. Also Korean soldiers recreated that same thing during the Vietnam war but no one talks about that.
So true. I lived in Korea for 13 years. My wife and daughter are Korean. I was there when there were only a handful of foreign teachers, before the boom, so I've seen the rapid social and economic development and how these changes had an impact on Korean society. I taught at a university and a high demand for English professors and not enough supply to meet that demand, as well as my M.A. degree in English, made it easier for me to find work at the university. But yes, I did run into racism when it was between me (a Latino) and a white man for a position (I also looked for other work during the summer and winter breaks). White foreigners know this and understand this privilege. Many times it didn't matter if they were qualified or not; they had the look and that was enough. What I found interesting was the behavior of the westerners, how they felt privileged and immediately thought they were minor celebrities. Just to stay on the subject of racism (I can talk about so many things, both positive and negative), there was a man who owned an English language academy and employed a woman from Canada. The corresponded through the internet. All the paper work and visa were in order. The man went to meet her at the airport, as soon as she made it past customs, he saw her for the first time. He left her at the airport after realizing she was black. Sad story, but true. Imagine making a 14 hour trek and being stuck in a country where you do not speak the language.
Everything she talks about in the clubs in Korea is TRUE. When I visited Korea and went clubbing, I was groped ALOT. It was horrible. I have never experienced that much groping in a club and I’ve been to a lot of clubs. One guy chased us around the club trying to KISS us. One guy grabbed my hand and put it on his pe*is. I was literally dragged on the dance floor when I was trying to leave. I tried to stop a dude from taking advantage of a Korean girl but I was the only one helping her! It was ridiculous. Also side note: be aware of taxi drivers when its late because most will try to over charge you for the ride. Luckily i was with my mom and she knew what was up and called him out.

Saying it's "bad, but everyone is like that" just normalizes shit and unacceptable behaviour from men. Thank you for talking about the sexual assault and rape that are prevalent. A former friend told me he taught English with his ex in the early 2000s and the violence against women that's v casual in Korean society was hard for him, and this was a man saying this, which made me go holy shit. Thanks for being so brave in sharing your insights of Korean culture. Totally understand that you’re not trying to dissuade anyone from visiting or living there but it’s really helpful to get a perspective so that one’s not glamorizing what life is like there. Take care & sorry to hear that you had to learn some of this by personal experience.
My latest Korean GF (among many others) would easily generalize and talk stereotypes about certain people groups, and I found that she did this because it’s normal for her to generalize about her own country’s people as it’s a mono-culture. It didn’t seem to compute that other ethnic groups, countries and regions, etc, are not monocultures. In this same line of thought, I find that Koreans don’t want to talk about their own cultural problems in a negative light because image is everything. Ignoring problems, however, is not going to help progress. Finally, you’ll hear Koreans say “ We developed a lot economically, but we still need to develop socially. We just need more time.” My comment is always that you’re not going to change if you don’t focus on what needs to change. Social progress doesn’t come naturally with economic development. That seemed to be the assumption though. (That it was destined)
I find it funniest when they generalize about India, for example. It's a huge, extremely diverse country. Beyond anything these guys imagine. Im in Japan and I have to struggle not to roll my eyes because Japan is so homogenous, they think diversity is having one colour of ramen in a region, and a slightly different colour in another lol.
The amount of Korean guys I've made friends with are either extremely ignorant and try to use their Korean ethnicity as a weapon to garner attention from girls, or extremely brutally honest and introspective about Korean people in general.
Just because something is considered “cultural” doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing or a bad thing. Here in the U.S. we have “ghetto mentality” and it’s plaguing the current generation.
my brother lived in korea for a bit. and one thing that kind of shocked me was when he told me that many of the male koreans he talked to were firmly of the opinion that once you are having sex and the woman wants to stop, you have the right to keep going. sorry, that is rape, there is no other word for it. it's weird how many guys apparently think that is completely fine
Those many of the male must be the uneducated ones. Tell your brother to stop mingling with trash. I lived in Korea for 27 years growing up, and I have never experienced anything like this with dating.

Hello. I came across your video by accident, I was researching Korean laws. I can see it’s an older video. It is impactful. I want you to know that women face this everywhere everyday. I live in the USA & I’ve seen a HUGE improvement in my lifetime. It’s called the bystander effect & it’s a serious problem. My best advice is lead by example. Fred Rogers said look for helpers. I have taken that on & decided to be a helper. I am a distributor. If I see a woman being mistreated by I loudly confront him. I draw attention to the situation as much as possible. Sometimes you are the only one. Never think that there is someone else who will help. I have found that when I help & make a scene others join in. You are already starting to “be the person.” Take pride in that. It can be contagious.
Tip for anyone who looks at the travel advisory warning on google before traveling: never trust their crime reporting. They only base their crime evaluation on reported crimes, so it doesnt include a lot of crime you might face especially sexuaI crimes which are rampant in many countries deemed "safe". For example, Japan is listed as one of the safest countries in the world but sex crimes are extremely rampant. They crime is almost never reported because japan has strict defamation laws that prevent victims from speaking about their abyuse even if they can prove it happened. Proof that the thing you are talking about happened does not exempt you from being sued for defamation. So dont trust those. Talk to many people who have lived in the country instead and ask them what to watch out for
I was almost kidnapped in Korea (not by a Korean) but I kicked the guy as hard as I could and ran into a grocery store (I spoke barely any Korean)… but the people in the grocery store immediately helped me and called the police to take down my statement and help me get back to my hostel. They helped me calm down because I was freaking out, and I was so grateful for the help and they took me seriously.
I lived in Korea for 7 years. My wife grew up in Korea. Once we became pregnant with a child who was female we quickly moved back to Canada. I loved my time there (mostly). But no way I'd raise a girl there when I had the option to raise her in Canada instead.

Thank you for speaking out about these matters. You are a gem! You are educating people around the world and you're opening the minds of koreans to be aware of what's wrong with the korean society.
see this is why I don't get how people think Korea is so safe. in countries where the gender gap is wide, gender-based violence is going to be higher. a country with many males having misogynistic thinking is going to lead to them viewing women as objects which leads to sexual harassment, violence, and so on. otherwise, if they thought of women as human, just like them, they would have more empathy and understand that women are people with thoughts and feelings that deserve respect. thanks for making this video to inform others!
I think the young open minded Who wants a change in Korea for women , They Should do something about it us women are not a object we should be treated like a lady and Korean man’s not all of them are like that but to the ones who look down on foreigners should not be looked down on and I don’t know if it’s true or not but some bloggers who are even Koreans say that in some clubs your not allowed in cause your a foreigners. What I never heard something like this so racist . What about if you are just a tourist who picked Korean to learn there culture and visit that beautiful city and are spending there hard work money they been saving for there vacation to Korea. They decide to go clubbing and find out your not allowed in cause your a foreigner. I would not have a idea how to even think how to start but Social Media is a start.
Exactly, SK this country is so mysogynist, racist and homophones yet ignorant people genuily believe that omg its a safe place well not for women Hopefully that the young generation will change this but for now their still a lot of hypocrisie all of those "men" grow up in a world were they make them believe that they are superior but on another level , when they are not, and women have to face this everyday for no god dawn reason we have to make a big change
As a young man of only 16 it disgusts me that men act as if women are objects and harass them. Apologies to everyone who had to experience such awful things. I have always made it my goal where if I see someone who appears to be in trouble to help, regardless of appearances, or anything else . That's very sad that such things exist in such a beautiful country and I hope things improve over the coming years. Much love to everyone

Thanks for the warning about how Korean's treat Filipinos, or Southeast Asians, in Korea. It's amazing, The Philippines was one of the first countries to send troops over to South Korea to fight the communists in 1950 and this is how Filipinos are treated and viewed. Filipinos, in general, are very forgiving and don't discriminate against Koreans when they live and visit the Philippines.
Plenty of people of all races and many nationalities died fighting for Korea. At least in France they appreciate what others did for them. I'm absolutely disgusted to find out that Koreans are racist when I have my Great Uncle's Purple Heart from dying for that country framed in my family room.
It probably has a lot to do with colorism. It's why koreans look down on filipinos who have darker skin and why soo many filipinos idolize people with lighter skin (like koreans and white people).
To sum it up, Koreans don't think being an alcoholic is a bad thing. All the issues you mentioned, just gets exacerbated with alcohol. Coming from a Korean woman, your video is very enlightening. Thanks for making it.
that is false. korea is one of the countries with the least drug consumption in the world. it is also incredible strict similar to dubai. if you get caught with weed as a foreigner you get deported and banned. as a korean you can get sentenced to prison time. also, rape isn’t nearly as common. the same way as kdrama paints an unrealistic peaches and oranges picture, the same way the haters will throw hyperbole on the dark side of korea. people with no experience can never be trusted. I have lived in korea for over a decade and the only harassment I saw was sadly from foreigners thinking korean girls are easy. koreans don’t think booze is a bad thing. just like the US, Europe and the rest of the world. they do drink stupid much, which is a problem but they also compensate as most koreans work out, go hiking and have an incredibly healthy, balanced diet. rape isn’t a common occurrence in korea and is known to get the strictest punishment next to drugs.
I know this happens all around the world but it is sad to think alot of men go out to target women in Korea. Here in England I found that the odd man would be a pervert if they were drunk but not necessary if they were not. Been a while since my party days though! The biggest suprise is that people don't step into help, In England I've found people are genuinely good at looking after people whether they know them or not. Am desperate to come to South Korea, maybe I'll have my day when my children have grown up. I do like the respectful aspect of it in every day life. Great video showing the other side of Korea. X
Thank you for this. I am Korean American and I lived in Korea for 3 years. I was shocked at how misogynistic and racist it was, and how it was so normal.

Although I am a man, I empathize with women. Women empowerment is for making women equal with men when it comes to things that both must be equal. Patriarchy was lurking around every corner of the world historically and we must eliminate the variable that is subject to abuse in patriarch days - the overpowering of the powerless.
I live in Korea currently and and have for a long time. I am mixed (japanese/mexican) and I've gotten so many racist remarks and moved academies due to my boss openly hating me once finding out that I have Japanese decent. In Seoul, people think I'm Filipino and get a lot of remarks about that as well. 2 things that help me is definitely learning Korean and the second is knowing your way around apps. Korean will shut up any people speaking around you. As for apps, the amount of times people would try to rip me off was insane (mostly towards taxi services). Using apps for taxis and even some stores will save you a lot of money. As a foreign male, I've also saved a couple people from grabby males. They will just pull you to them by your elbow to make you come drink or dance with them. Not saying hover people or that everyone needs to be saved but being available for just doing that whole "hey long time no see" and walk away with them if the girl wants that out.
I’m American, and so far I’ve never left the country before, but one day I’d like to visit South Korea. It’ll probably be in the distant future tbh, but right now I’m curious about realities there. One thing being racism. I’ve grown up in a way that now that I think about it seems closed off; I was raised in a small town of only white Americans and Mexican Americans. I’m Hispanic, so I’ve only had those two inputs my whole life. Not much experience with other cultures in-person. That aspect concerns me because I may come off as naïve since I’ve never experienced blatant, face-to-face racism or even behind-your-back racism. I know my parents have, they’ve shared stories of being called a “stupid Mexican” n whatnot. Other than that, I am trying to learn as much as I can and readying myself I guess for real-world possibilities, so thanks for those tips 👍🏻
As a Filipino, I'm devastated we're heavily used as societal minority basis in SoKor. Although, there are some good hearted Koreans that truly appreciate my kinds, like Sandara Park.
The Japanese part is understandable. If you knew the history of how evil the Japanese were to both the Chinese and Koreans, you would know how the older Koreans who lived through World War 2 feel when they think of a Japanese.

Woah, so important that you speak up! Not only so that woman gets warned, but so that people who do such horrible things know that not everyone is afraid to speak up or even think that thats okay. You earned my fellowship 🙂
the funny thing is, although kpop and kdrama made korea seem like the perfect place to live, there are so many kdramas that actually frequently highlights the dark side of korea. so many school-based kdramas showed their bullying culture (which was really shocking to me initially as i never expected such bullying to really happen irl, i even thought it was dramatized), crime dramas showed how unsafe it could possibly be for women in korea, and many other dramas also showed how people easily discriminate against women who didnt fit their korean beauty standard. but yet while we watch these shows and commend the drama's efforts in highlighting all these social issues, we turn a blind eye to the fact that all these are actually very legit issues that makes korea not a colorful rainbow place to live in
@@springer-qb4dv the same way the rest of the world takes American dramas seriously. I think more people out there are aware of the issues America has, not as many are aware of the issues SK has on the other hand. It's just a generalization btw but considering how globally popular America is, people just know more about things going on here
@@springer-qb4dv Truth is ppl are just selective of what they want to believe. What ppl don't realize is that like any other countries, Korea's good and bad sides aren't mutually exclusive and both should be acknowledged.
Before I go into any country, I make sure to not have fanstastic expectations of the place. I expect that it won't be the same as the media makes it seem. A mindset like this helps me enjoy my time there, even if I experience something upsetting. I can brush it off easier and just go on my way.
I understand what you're saying but I feel like telling people to 'brush off' bad experiences under a video that discusses sexual assault and r*pe is extremely unhelpful.
@@joisiemagee Yeah but it’s Asia this is to be expected, Equally the big three, China, Japan, South Korea all of them have horrible women’s rights records. With a lack of transparency that fails in comparison to the United States. As much as people bitch about the United States all of our records are made public that’s why we get crazy Florida man stories. Those same kind of stories about Japan, China, South Korea they never really come to light. All you simply have to do is look at the countries criminal code and it’s a decent reflection of the culture. All of those big three make it pretty obvious you don’t have rights regardless of your gender but it’s even worse if you’re a foreigner or female.
KPOP Stan REALLY need to give themselves a wake up call. Idols livelihood depends on their interactions w fans. I stan SO MANY GROUPS some of the biggest and always see people say “XYZ is actually kind and cares abt woman rights etc etc he did this and this and this” but that’s all public and fan interaction they literally HAVE to do it. Political stats showed I think 60% of men in their 20-30s voted Right wing and 78% hold anti-feminist and misogynistic views. That’s 8 out of every 10 people, so the chances of more than half a KPOP grp having these views isn’t uncommon or not to be expected. While those that are exposed to western culture and diff cultures ofc will grow more we can never be sure who they are. Always stan with a Grain of salt and never idolize people you don’t personally know
Yup this. The Seu*gi Burning Molka situation that happened really gave me an even bigger reality check. Probably the only ones who might be semi decent would be the guys from Western countries or more progressive ones. But like sorry these mens be gross af.
@@TheMacdmond I think that’s a bit unfair. Some people find comfort in liking and following stuff, whether it be music, books, movies etc. I think people should just not idolize people and things to a level where they’ll be completely destroyed if something goes bad. They can spend money and time in their free time for leisure. Doesn’t mean their life goes on halt and it’s not nice to assume that for everyone tbh
@@TheMacdmond ofc you shouldn’t spend money on problematic people lol not every idol is? A lot of people stan the nonproblematic. Being a fan or stan nowadays is just really really liking/loving/supporting someone. Use common sense and everyone should while being fans of things obviously. @@TheMacdmond before I answer properly, so there’s no confusion, firstly, where did I say I stanned a lot of groups? And where did I say none were problematic? I was speaking to KPOP fans in general. My initial post was to stan everyone with a grain of salt because u never know what kind of people they are deep within. My first response to you was saying that let’s not put down every KPOP fan and let them spend money and time as they seem fit with discretion (common sense to not support openly problematic people). And my second response was talking about how we can stan or be a fan of someone without making them the centre of our life. So what are you responding about it doesn’t make sense to attack me abt supposed groups I may or may not stan when that’s not even what we’re talking about? Where did I say “my favs are pretentious women advocates”? Please clarify so I know what you’re talking abt
Not sure why Americans are so fascinated with Korean/K-pop culture. My wife is one of those people and I told her that it's not all glorious as it is made to seem. She recently vacationed in Korea and told me I was right.

Girl, thanks for this video. I'm brazilian and all the brazilian girls I follow that are currently in S Korea do a false propaganda of how safe the country is for women. If you call it out, they make another video reassuring that the country is secure. I think because S Korea is a conservative country, I've always been aware of the danger that a woman might face there, as well as any other place!! And I don't think this type of content should discourage anyone to visit SK. It's just for women not let their guards down!
@av SCompact Correct. Maintaining a good global image is key to their economic goals. Can't have waves of foreigners exposing the actual reality of the country as that would damage their image.
The country is safe lol....the clubs where dudes r groping women are also full of women groping dudes. Don't ask me why they would enjoy that sort of thing.....but they all know but still go
I agree. No country is safe from this .. if you look a the stats. Every country has rape and abuse. It is just that you need not to let your guard down. I know someone living in SK and she travels safely on a train or bus like at 11pm at night.. doesnt mean it is safe.. you just must not let your guard down and foolishly believe you will be safe.
I'm so here for women speaking up and warning other foreigners about moving abroad for work/ study etc. We tend to fantasise and romanticise other countries because of the social/ other medias but tend to remain naive to the darker side that EVERY COUNTRY HAS. The reality is that other country you're trying to move to is as good and bad as the one you currently live in. If its homogeneous (like most countries in Asia) and you don't fit the standard then you're most likely going to attract a lot of unwanted attention, so you must educate yourself on how to protect yourself there in order to preserve your mental x
Thanks for your courage and honesty in speaking out about all this in a respectful and nuanced way. The trigger warning is appreciated too. Sorry you've had those experiences personally. I'm glad a lot of people are seeing your video. 👍🏼🙏🏼
Korea's problem is ppl are obedient. Different RANKS were created and form a hierarchy. So younger ppl obey the older ones, poor ppl obey the riches, employees obey the employers, women obey men...so higher rank ppl can bully lower rank ppl as they like while lower rank ppl don't think they have the rights to object because that's how the society runs. So you can always see all kinds of bullies in k drama and no one thinks it's such a big problem which requires amendments.
It’s not necessarily that, look at the laws of the country when it comes to crime and punishment, defamation and civil cases. Look at how hard it is to get fair representation in court. The laws of the country will dictate the culture. In Korea it is incredibly hard especially if you’re not wealthy, Korea very much like China functions off of connections, It doesn’t Matter what you did as long as you have friends in power.
This is very good. I am a white person who always tried to shed a light on this matter ( I was subjected to very intense racism when I attended korean school :/ ) and I HAVE ALWAYS been accused of being racist, because people cannot really see that Korea and Asia in general is not kpop bands and cherry blossom flowers. What I don't understand is, how on earth could anyone make any snide racial remarks about anyone, when we all borrow, steal and copy certain cultural aspects from one another. For example, cafes were essentially a European thing. S. Korea is now also known for their beautifully comfortable and comforting cafe culture, but it wasn't theirs to begin with. It was an aspect they found cool from the Europeans. Rap music and hip hop comes from the African American culture and is also something the people of S. Korea find cool and wanting to imitate. The point is, there's no need to make snide remarks about anyone, when everyone has something that would look or be fascinating in someone else's eyes. We're all here on the same planet to learn and to share each other within reason of course, but overall, being racist to people you've never even met, but have taken some cultural gem from just to make your life better, isn't right and makes no sense.
Unfortunately, it's very easy for human beings to take what they like while disrespecting the creators. When they don't see use as equals, or even human, it opens the doors (in their minds) to all sorts of abuse, disrespect, exploitation, etc...

Thank you for speaking out the truth. I had been to S. Korea two times, I was so sad of the way we were treated, taxi drivers refused to take us anywhere, they didn't stop for us, they wanted to charge us extremely expensive, they drive longer to charge us more, at restaurants they would ignore us, or not bring us water and utensils, at stores an older guy made his daughter check our bags to see if we stole anything, people were rude to us, they asked all the time if we were Russian and they looked mad at us and we had no clue why so we would respond that we were from Mexico, and then they would be a bit more friendly, I still don't know what was that about, I mean I have Russian friends and they are super nice, so I don't know, we were going to stay there two weeks but after four days we were honestly just waiting to go back home, I am surprised that there is so much advertising inviting tourists when I just feel that they really don't like foreigners, I did met a couple of nice people but they were not that many, most of the time we just felt rejected. It was not at all welcoming. I visited Seoul, Gangnam-gu, Busan and Incheon. Every time I had tried to inform anyone of this reality I had been diminished and even blocked. I hope worldwide we can at some point accept and respect each other as beings from the same human race that live in the same planet.
Sorry you were treated that way. Im Vietnamese, not Korean btw. But I think you should have gone to more tourist friendly areas. They don't like foreigners because foreigners have long been known to take advantage of poorer asian countries. Go to Thailand and you'll see alot of white guys with thai wives. So it stems from that, which is why Korea may have alot of pride in themselves, which is a good thing imo but don't let it get so rediculous lol
Russian girls are used as prostitutes or for trafficking wives to be sell to Koreans as meat. It is common to be asked as a foreigner that way instead of "are you a prostitute" it is like the slang in there. If it was an older person that ask you that probably was because of their conservative mind set and they disapprove it. They are very close minded and judgemental people. I feel bad for the real Russian women that go there for Tourism and being harassed by society.
Equality huh? With each country having their dark sides, racism to all different degrees no matter where one goes, vast cultural differences, and misogyny, I highly doubt that equal respect will come anytime soon. It will likely even continue to happen for generations to come.
In Canada the night culture ( for girls) is very supportive. Girls who aren't your friends will check up on you if they sense something is wrong. As a girl you can join a random group of strangers to escape from a situation and those strangers will protect you without question. I'm not an avid participant of night culture but most of the girls I know haven't encountered many situations where they are assaulted or r*ped. But if we are being real, Canada's night culture is pretty stale and dry. So positives and negatives.
Something that really bothers me when black ppl like me start up conversations about the prejudice and racism we face in EA counties and white foreigners or people that glamorize Korea absolutely deny it. You can appreciate a countries culture, without romanticizing every aspect of the country 💀
People even after knowing that still don't believe it, it's sad and sickening that it's like this. To further you point about racism, fetishsizing foreigners, especially white and black women is a serious issue in EA. Many men who came off as extra friendly want a sexual experience. There are even sayings like "riding the black/white horse". Also adding to your comment, I hope my now ex's experience will serve as a reminder to those who read it: I keep warning people I meet in the West that Korea, Japan and my home country China despite being conservative when it comes to sex, are just like any other countries, and people especially girls need to be careful. Yet usually I still couldn't convince them. My ex is black and she even heard that in Korea some men have this saying "riding the black horse"; her friend had her nudes passed around by her Korean "boyfriend", yet after my ex broke up with me over an online Korean guy "friend", moved to Korea right after, she still put blind trust in men acting shady there despite being warned not to. In the end she was seriously messed up by another Korean guy that cyber-stalked me and asked her to pretend dating him so he "could get his ex back". It's definitely not all rainbows and unicorns over there.
@@ccatfx320 I’m sorry that you had this experience, and thank you for adding onto my comment because this seems to be a common trap for foreigners. To leave their countries, pack up and leave everything behind for a online “partner” and end up homeless, missing, manipulated, or even dead.

The way everyone is saying " Korea is super safe " while they never been there is ridiculous 😅 Where should i start ? My experience in Korea was horrible ! First bullying was a nightmare because I'm 60 kg and everyone was mocking me and calling me elephant or pig !! Even tho many Korean guys flirted with me but girls were pretty toxic with me i don't know why , if by any chance u walk during sunny day and get tanned u will get heeeella bullied soo badly and second there is indeed sexual harassment, one day i went to a hair salon that has two floors and the second floor is where they wash your hair and one of the staff grabbed my boobs and i was panicking because i was all by myself and i couldn't say a word , unfortunately every Korean guy will see you as a wh*re since u r foreigner and its okay for him to do anything with u even if u rejected him , i was in a pub and a Korean guy approached me and i clearly told him im here with my boyfriend but he pulled my head like a j*rk and forcefully kissed me !! Shockingly one Korean guy was so honest with me and told me all the Koreans foreigners marriage thats going on is all for the sake of nationalities which sadly ending up with 70% divorcing after that But lets be honest food and weather were pretty fine not everything is bad but please you should be careful and realistic don't trust anybody please and stay safe
In Korea, you never feel life-threatened, thinking some random racist will shoot you. That’s the level of safeness. Whereas, honestly, I don’t even dare to drive by a certain part of town in the States. Being irritated and called names on, is nothing compared to these racist threats. I am a Korean who lived a big chunk of my life in the States and still living in the States due to work. Is Korea safe? Yes. Absolute knowledge of anything is irrational.. You are right, but I have to say that compared to other countries, sexual harassment is less in Korea and I saw boys marrying nationalities that have no benefit. Not everyone is the same. I've been living in Korea for 3 years and I speak pretty fluently. Its absolutely true that people will insult you in your face because they think you don't speak Korean. Im mixed Thai, Guamanian, and Spanish and I have a hard time just trying to get into places (nightclubs, bars ect.). Korea is amazing, but just have expectation management like Sienna said.
Just seeing this video. Thank you so much for posting! I definitely had a skewed perception of Korea through social media portrayal. It's videos like yours that bring everything back to reality. There is good and bad everywhere! We just have to be aware of everything when we visit.

the most hearbreaking thing about Korean racism is just a look back in history to see how much Koreans were discriminated against and explointed by the Imperial Japanese regime. the way some Korean businessman treat South East Asian people, especially workers, those people should only look just generations before at their grandparents and how they had to eat scraps just to survive.
South east asian felt too, so why we are nice to strangers? If you talking about japanese regime, south east asian starts with malaysian, philippines, indonesia, cambodia, vietnam, laos, etc, not only japanese regime, but western colonialism we had. But looks, they are nice to stranger, they dont care where youre from as you enjoy and respect to other they’re wlcome.
As someone who authentically loves the music in SK, it is so sad that some idols contribute and participate in this misogynist, illegal behavior against women-and the fact that the legal system and culture are co-conspirators in a crime by blaming the victim is disgusting! All cultures have their good and bad things but this is not going to stop unless brave, strong women like this girl speaks up. Good job, sis! Very brave!
@@lovecharlesbarkley7768 have you ever been to korea?? If so why do you think it’s an exaggeration, because it can’t be an exaggeration if there’s multiple foreigners making videos addressing the same issues in korea.
The legal system and culture being co-conspirators to this type of stuff literally exists everywhere though. Whether it's in a Western country or not. Now that doesn't mean it's bad, potentially much worse, in SK because of the difference with how these cases are viewed. But it's not something exclusive to SK or the Far East in general.
I lived in Korea for a few years, and I remember being really shocked by a comment one of my friends made. I'm male, she's female. She had a boyfriend in another country but we used to hang out all the time. One time we were out doing... I don't even remember what... I think there was alcohol involved, but I'm not a heavy drinker. She drank more than me. Anyway, I just crashed at her place because it was so late when we were still out. The next day she said, "You didn't try to have sex with me." I was like, "Ummm yeah..? We're friends. That's not the kind of relationship we have, are you saying you don't like your boyfriend anymore?" and she just said, "I don't think there's anything I could have done to stop you if you tried to have sex with me last night." Me being male didn't see the world from her point of view exactly, and I thought she was being a bit dramatic. Listening to you talk however it becomes pretty clear that a lot of women have come to expect this kind of thing from guys, especially if they are hanging out after 9PM. On a side note, Koreans DO treat white people differently, but I'm not going to try to say that we have it just as bad as everyone else. I've been to clubs that would let foreign women in, but guys no way. The one time I got a straight answer from a door guy, it was because they believed that we were sexual plague vectors and they felt it was their duty to protect the women in the club from our disease. Pretty presumptuous if you ask me... There's also this thing where we have one role if we are living in Korea and it is extremely hard to break out of it.... teacher. If you aren't a student then people expect you to be a teacher. On the same note, Sadly most of the jobs there come from Hagwons and there are a LOT of shady business owners who take advantage of their foreign employees by breaking countless Korean labor laws because they think we don't know any better. Sadly they are usually right. My employer over there did some stuff and I ended up having to file a lawsuit to get my last 3 months of pay. They got some kind of black mark on their record for the lack of pay and asking me to do things that were far beyond my contract without compensation. The sad truth is a lot of business owners who hire foreigners for their work (so mostly teachers) view us as commodities rather than humans.
She wanted you to have sex with her. If they expect guys to try something why would she put herself in that position plus the boyfriend in another country???
They didn't let foreign guys in probably knowing you were more likely to defend the women who could be getting harassed and/or assaulted. The were sending sheep's to the slaughter
The fact that kpop idols are doing this 👀 what even… and the fact that’s completely hidden from the western world that this is happening. I’m glad I found this actually.
I don’t even know how to process that though. I don’t want to believe it’s true. I mean are famous K-pop idols that are doing this? In which case would more people be aware of it? I did head about the burning sun scandal but those were much older generation idols.

so that's why the korean girls who grew up here say they're anxious whenever they go home to south korea and can't wait to return here - w/c now they apparently consider home.
Some of the only times I was sexually harassed (verbally, physically, and nearly raped one time) here in the States, were by men of Korean ancestry (2nd-gen Americans with South Korean 1st-gen parents) who were born and raised in the States, essentially Korean-American men. I have heard of the rape culture and misogyny in S. Korea a lot too. Makes me wonder how that is somehow passed down to their kids raised in a different country and emersed in a different mainstream culture.
I went to Korea in May-2019 to experience the Spring. I was so excited to finally witness it since we don't have spring in the Philippines. We went there as a group and although I did not experience any racism, what I found out is their individualistic behavior. I'm not generalizing all of the Koreans but just basing this on my experience. Most of them don't really care and will only mind their own business. When we were in the Everland, a Korean mother with her child crashed the stroller without getting any help from the locals. The child was screaming and the mother was panicking, my immediate response was to help them but I don't speak Hangul, I literally had to say gwaen-chan-ah out of nowhere. My friend who was busy taking photos of the tulips that time noticed us so she rushed to our direction and help. Thankfully they're safe. That was a relief. Had to admit though, that was a disappointment. I keep thinking what will happen if I will get into trouble or any accident will they help me? My advise for travelers who's planning to visit Korea is to have atleast a tour guide or any friend that can help you. Familiarize the culture.
Thank you for your bravery and honesty. Misogyny exists is every culture, but it is rare to see a Korean addressing this topic so openly. The impact of K culture on the world is undeniable, and it’s sad that these issues are not surfaced, but minimized or ignored completely. Be proud of using your voice to stand against the current and keep up the amazing work!! ❤❤
Thats rich. The reason there is racism and misogyny is because of you white people. Benefited from both your entire life and now criticizing others, classic.
Wtf are you talking about? If anything radical feminism and misandry is an issue in Korea. Women outing closeted gay men, bragging about aborting their baby because it is male, doxing men. It’s a big reason why Yoon Suk Yeol won the 2022 election.
Very brave of you to speak out. My wife is half Korean and confirm those things you are saying. Unfortunately Korea is quite a repressed society - very good at marketing themselves to the world but their male dominated culture is very unhealthy.
I mean, that's pretty much the story everywhere. Globally, society has a very unhealthy male-dominated culture that leads to these things. There are extremely few places in society that aren't male-dominated. It appears(at least to me) that Asian cultures may even bury the issues more deeply than some other cultures do. It would be great if this honesty could be applied to cultures globally. A lot of the same problems appear everywhere, but it seems that men will gladly point out the problems in someone else's culture, but not their own. So progress isn't really being made anywhere.
@@AniWho268 the problem is what South Korea markets itself as via its movies, music etc all pushed by their government’s desire to export their ‘culture’ to the world.
@@damienchan1786 Asian countries like Korea do seem to have an obsession over their appearance to the world, but that's a general thing as well. Plenty of big countries are also obsessed with bringing and even forcing their culture on others. I'm not trying to trivialize Korea's problems, just pointing out that there's so much of this going on everywhere. If there was more honesty from men about these things in their own cultures, there would be more progress as well.
This girl has no idea what she is talking about... she is saying there is no racism there if you are white... yeah I've been beat up and have friends put in the hospital because they were white. In addition I have been banned from going in shops, renting houses and have been slapped and spit on for being white. I also speak Korean pretty well so I got to hear a constant barrage of racism wherever I went because people thought they could say whatever they want. You are a lot better off if you are a white girl in korea but a white dude is going to catch a ton of bullsh*t.
Thank you for the information. I remember "V" of BTS recommending a book, "Kim Ji-Young, Born in 1982" and thinking," WOW, there is some depth to this male idol." No one criticized him. Then , at a later time they asked Irene of Red Velvet what was the last book she read and she answered, "Kim Ji-Young, Born in 1982." The HATE she received from men was viscious, almost rabid. The difference in the way men and women are treated by Koreans is obvious. They called her the worst thing they could think of: "YOU'RE A FEMINIST!" ???? FEMINISM: "the advocacy of women's rights based on the equality of the sexes. ALL genders having equal rights and opportunities." South Korean men have a problem with that when everyone should be a feminist. V and Irene are young, intelligent and sensitive Koreans who care about people. ANYONE would gain insight into women in Korea, women in general and insight into humanity by reading that book which became an International best seller and broke records for sales in South Korea surpassing any book's sales in the previous decade.
I’ve met many native Korean women in Sk that told me they had bad experiences dating Korean men. They told me that they were too obsessive, always monitored what the girls wore and who they talked and texted, and didn’t let them express themselves freely. Because of this, they no longer wanted to date the guys from their own country. The women preferred western men because of the western mindset and how they treated women more respectfully. Hopefully the Korean mindset changes for the better for both the Korean men and women
I feel for them. I ‘dated’ (online) a Korean guy once for 2 months, he talked about marriage very quickly and having to hear me say I love you every day. I accepted that that might just be a cultural difference. But then he was constantly having to know where I was and what I was doing, who my friends were and if I hung out with any guys. He got very jealous if I mentioned I had gone to a party or any other type of social gathering where males were present even if it was for a birthday. It was quite strange considering we hadn’t even seen each other in real life and this was already how he was acting. Now you see why that didn’t last long. I think this behavior is encouraged in Korean society, I’m not sure. However so many times I’ve seen being jealous and possessive over a woman in k-drama’s portrayed as a good thing. Which is completely opposite from how the West views that so I understand why these Korean girls are fed up.
Let's be honest: The real reason many Asian girls want to date White guys is because they find them more physically attractive compared to Asian guys so even if these Asian guys improved their bad behaviour, these girls still won't date them.

This is my first time seeing a Korean women talking about this. But thank you for pointing those out because a lot of people come with a fantasy. For those that speak Chinese, As a person that graduated with a Minor in it- China and Taiwan is the same. Men are men everywhere. Watch out, bring pepper spray
Only she is not korean and is chinese. She does not know half as much as she thinks. Gang rape is not a thing in korea so don't believe that. Much of what she says is her perception and not necessarily the reality. On the other hand if one goes to shady places , get drunk out of their mind way past midnight or associate with rude, forward or aggressive people then they bring trouble unto themselves as can happen in any country. The danger in korea imo is more subtle as some will not be who they pretend to be and will try to con you. Common sense will go a long way here and its best to associate with innocent and outstanding citizens. Remember sociopaths come in all walks of life.
We are not all evil. 😪 But that rape culture surely doesn't help. In the west it happens but I don't think is that common. But still happens. Those men exist everywhere sadly.

“That’s great we’ll definitely look into this”

It really helps to understand the mindset in advance,no matter where you go.

For example my wife, she way too kind and everytime we go out or she does, people are always asking her out because once she starts talking, you can't stop her. In most Asian countries, even those who are generally less racist and really friendly the perception about the sexuality of people from western countries is skewed. Most immediately will generalize that if you are from a western country, regardless of race you are more likely to be sexually active. Which is kind of true but that stereotype they have is because of the sex tourism in Asia. So they all automatically think we’d be down for s*x easily and casually even if it is by force. Not all believe this but most do because of Hollywood and western media

i feel like more korean celebrities should speak up about this issues considering their major influence within korea and internationally. but unfortunately even when female idols are suspected to be a feminist, they are attacked and put down for their views… there needs to be more people talking about these issues so more people can speak up about them
It's sad that they can't, they could lose their whole career if they do
I dont think they can, did you see the hate Naeun from apink got for having a phone case that said girls can do anything or something similar?

Don’t use that as an excuse to hurt others. Also Korean soldiers recreated that same thing during the Vietnam war but no one talks about that.
just another white guy with an asian fetish
Thanks for sharing. I did not know the racism was so big in Korea.

Talk to many people who have lived in the country instead and ask them what to watch out for

see this is why I don't get how people think Korea is so safe. in countries where the gender gap is wide, gender-based violence is going to be higher. a country with many males having misogynistic thinking is going to lead to them viewing women as objects which leads to sexual harassment, violence, and so on. otherwise, if they thought of women as human, just like them, they would have more empathy and understand that women are people with thoughts and feelings that deserve respect. thanks for making this video to inform others!

One thing being racism. I’ve grown up in a way that now that I think about it seems closed off; I was raised in a small town of only white Americans and Mexican Americans. I’m Hispanic, so I’ve only had those two inputs my whole life. Not much experience with other cultures in-person. That aspect concerns me because I may come off as naïve since I’ve never experienced blatant, face-to-face racism or even behind-your-back racism. the funny thing is, although kpop and kdrama made korea seem like the perfect place to live, there are so many kdramas that actually frequently highlights the dark side of korea. so many school-based kdramas showed their bullying culture (which was really shocking to me initially as i never expected such bullying to really happen irl, i even thought it was dramatized), crime dramas showed how unsafe it could possibly be for women in korea, and many other dramas also showed how people easily discriminate against women who didnt fit their korean beauty standard. but yet while we watch these shows and commend the drama's efforts in highlighting all these social issues, we turn a blind eye to the fact that all these are actually very legit issues that makes korea not a colorful rainbow place to live in

The Russians assisted North Korea in the Korean war, so they're a little sore about that... Still, it sucks the way you were treated
Don't pretend you don't know so many Russians are racist to asians in ur country. Do you know what skinheads are
Equality huh?
You can appreciate a countries culture, without romanticizing every aspect of the country 💀
this!!! exactly
Exactly stop fetishizing Korean ppl and u wouldn’t have that problem
People even after knowing that still don't believe it, it's sad and sickening that it's like this.
To further you point about racism, fetishsizing foreigners, especially white and black women is a serious issue in EA. Many men who came off as extra friendly want a sexual experience.
There are even sayings like "riding the black/white horse".
Also adding to your comment, I hope my now ex's experience will serve as a reminder to those who read it:
I keep warning people I meet in the West that Korea, Japan and my home country China despite being conservative when it comes to sex, are just like any other countries, and people especially girls need to be careful.
@@alertkai Thank you and I agree completely, hopefully there will be more people that are willing to raise awareness so things like that happen less. Stay safe!
The way everyone is saying " Korea is super safe " while they never been there is ridiculous 😅
Where should i start ? Shockingly one Korean guy was so honest with me and told me all the Koreans foreigners marriage thats going on is all for the sake of nationalities which sadly ending up with 70% divorcing after that
But lets be honest food and weather were pretty fine not everything is bad but please you should be careful and realistic don't trust anybody please and stay safe
Yes. It really depends on who you interact and at where and what you do or choose as your lifestyle.
@@moonlitsky9321you live in korea and you’re this unaware?
@@moonlitsky9321 US is super unsafe and checking racism there its like 200%

Absolute knowledge of anything is irrational.. You are right, but I have to say that compared to other countries, sexual harassment is less in Korea and I saw boys marrying nationalities that have no benefit. Not everyone is the same. In general, one should live wisely in this world. If you are looking for security and positive people in the streets and clubs, the problem is with you, not the country
@@자흐라-s2g i agree for sure but abput the nationalities actually there a huge benefits which every Korean guy is eager for it
Literally every Korean guy hate the army and its understandable so before the enlist they try to find any foreigner girl fast to marry her and get another nationality so he can drop the military service , some korean influencers was warning about it coz u know its like 70% rating of divorce of korean and foreigners so that's what people are not aware of it
But again lets be honest i would pretty much choose to live a long time in Korea instead of being in US coz safety rating is higher in Korea
I just don't want people to be so oblivious and think that there's any counrty in this world that is utopia
I've been living in Korea for 3 years and I speak pretty fluently. Its absolutely true that people will insult you in your face because they think you don't speak Korean. Im mixed Thai, Guamanian, and Spanish and I have a hard time just trying to get into places (nightclubs, bars ect.).
Nightlife here is nuts... ive seen guys just drown women in drinks until they black out. There are just so many red flags that westerners learn that koreans just don't talk about.
The fact that most of those actors and idols are the same way .....I feel sad for people who fantasize and expect celebrities to be like angel or kids...gross..like you only see 1%of their life on screen which is also highly edited..wake up kids😭😂
Agreed
ikr its only one side of the media and everyone falls in love whenever they think about south Korea! everything is about idols and k-drama i tell all my friends who fantasize over it like sis you ain't gonna live the k-drama life just get back into reality!
I though our Indian women all drool over them. I always knew ( even without anybody telling me ) that this was the case . But we'll people don't wanna see it.
Specially Indian girls drooling over those guys re so cringe and stupid.
the most hearbreaking thing about Korean racism is just a look back in history to see how much Koreans were discriminated against and explointed by the Imperial Japanese regime. the way some Korean businessman treat South East Asian people, especially workers, those people should only look just generations before at their grandparents and how they had to eat scraps just to survive.
You know what they say, victims often turned into perpetrators
well said
South east asian felt too, so why we are nice to strangers? If you talking about japanese regime, south east asian starts with malaysian, philippines, indonesia, cambodia, vietnam, laos, etc, not only japanese regime, but western colonialism we had. But looks, they are nice to stranger, they dont care where youre from as you enjoy and respect to other they’re wlcome.
I'm from Poland. My country was also occupied for a long time. We've been abused and murdered, but we're hospitable.
I dont think being occupied translated into being assholes. I dont think there is proper excuse for being an assholes.
Very brave!
The story of the video is much exaggerated.
That's not the kind of relationship we have, are you saying you don't like your boyfriend anymore?" and she just said, "I don't think there's anything I could have done to stop you if you tried to have sex with me last night."
Me being male didn't see the world from her point of view exactly, and I thought she was being a bit dramatic.
The sad truth is a lot of business owners who hire foreigners for their work (so mostly teachers) view us as commodities rather than humans.
was her bf korean?
She wanted you to have sex with her. If they expect guys to try something why would she put herself in that position plus the boyfriend in another country???
@@merrittpalmer4349probably, small pp
They view their own people as commodities as well. Welcome to Asia.

I use to get into a fight with an American born Korean when I was a teenager!
I’m so sorry you had to experience this
No one said it does not happen in America. Hell you can get shot here, so what is your point?
I hope your healing everything’s gonna be okay it’s not your fault just pray to God💄

I had a feeling Korea was like that, thanks for speaking about it because you could have saved someone from a horrible disgusting accident
I had guessed it too . It had dawned upon me long ago n
Yeah I had this impression as well.
Your culture is responsible for all of that. Especially exporting it and racism all around the world. Enjoying benefiting from it?
@gahdv2249 my God go outside
Wtf are you talking about? If anything radical feminism and misandry is an issue in Korea. Women outing closeted gay men, bragging about aborting their baby because it is male, doxing men. It’s a big reason why Yoon Suk Yeol won the 2022 election.
@@gahdv2249Oh yeah you're right but still we're not all unaware of that. Korea doesn't get a pass though on women's lib imo
Asian countries are like this
@@udontevenwannaknowbruv [he talked about marriage very quickly] > he is not a common ROK male. | Миру мир!
