    The comparison thing is out of control. The obsession with status (and status symbols) is really, really destructive. Everyone judges the quality of their lives by what everyone else has, or even worse, by what they don't have. This drives me insane....

      Korean woman born in Korea are not as unique as you may think in the media. All woman have a universal code and it's more of how you two value your time that will make or break you. I ended up marrying an Asian American woman as compared to all the Japanese/Korean/Philippine woman I met when I was still a young buck doing my time for the U.S. military in Japan. The best woman for you to date or marry is the one that understands your background and attempts to help you live a stable life. I ain't a very plain/casual man and I don't care much for social media/public status so I don't think any Korean girl in Korea would had liked me. LOL! Glad that my American wife is more accepting!

      Correct. Korean woman born in Korea are worst than some poor Filipina girl who really just wants to be a good house wife. Filipina girls are the only Asian girls outside of a heavily modernized country that I actually thought of marrying since they are not materialistic; Filipina are rather realistic and heavily strict with finding a good husband. #1 Rule breaker for me in any relationship is that if a girl puts more energy into social media; she gets 100 percent rejected by me. Korean woman; you all are just too shallow. Sorry but even the Japanese girls still beat you Korean woman by a far margin even though Japanese woman got a bad culture of infidelity. I would rather date some average looking Filipina or Japanese girl who will truly love me for who I am rather than some hottie Kpop looking fake Korean girl who does nothing but check social media all day to waste our time. Time is short and so is my life. Good luck to any guys attempting to try to date/marry a Korean woman born in Korea. Come back and tell me in 10-30 years if your marriage is still there. lol. Give Filipina girls a shot coming from an older Asian American military veteran like me. My current wife is an Asian American girl but my first few serious relationships was with a few White American girls when I was younger. It's not about your looks, race, color, and etc. I always say it's your values that you two bring to the table to forge a future that matters the most! Good luck guys and girls!

    South Korea is a very complex and competitive society, which is obviously great in many ways, but exhausting in many other ways. A friend of mine is Korean, who has been living in the U.S. for several years and recently got her citizenship. She said the average young Korean is more interested in having a picture of themselves doing something interesting than actually enjoying doing something interesting. Appearing to enjoy life is more important than enjoying life.

  • @emmak2971

    I'm really interested in Korea and Korean culture because in middle school I had a really good friend who was Korean and I was introduced to a lot of Korean culture and media through her. I started learning Korean and I've been planning on applying to colleges in Korea and my parents know about it and support me but lately I've been getting extremely worried. I've heard about severe sexism in Korea and the anti-feminist sentiment which seems really scary and bizzare to me as a woman, not to mention "hidden cameras". Other things like being judgemental of everyone, comparing everything, and being surrounded by materialism would freak me out. Recently I've also heard a lot about Koreans being racist/xenophobic towards other Asians, so now I'm even wondering if it's just a huge mistake to apply for universities in Korea even though I already spent a lot of time and money on this. I still think Korean culture is so rich and interesting, and I think the language is very beautiful, and of course I have met some nice Korean people but I'm experiencing a lot of anxiety thinking about studying there.

    • @tinyhwa1024
      @tinyhwa1024 2 года назад +42

      i think that you should do a lot of research and watch a lot of different videos from a lot of different creators who have/do live in korea then really think about the reason why you want to move there and if it would be worth it for you. From what I've seen, not every country is perfect and everyone's experience living in korea is different. I've seen people that have loved it and some that have hated it. Think about how your everyday life would be living and there and if you personally would be happy living day to day life there. Think about your morals and values and if your mental health would deteriorate in a setting like that. Everyone is different so I would take multiple experiences and opinions then consider *every factor*. I've heard that when moving there its best to expect the worst so you aren't disappointed, but at the end of the day remember not to generalize the whole population and I'm sure if you were to move there you would learn a lot and gain a lot of experience.

    • @Kristen0708
      @Kristen0708 2 года назад +24

      I would say the experience may vary, from person to person. This may sound weird but some cultures might not suit you, you may like it, you may admire it but living within that culture might be to much of a clash with yours, and you might end up disliking it, on the other hand there's the possibility that despite the differences you may find your self filling comfortable there. But keep in mind that no matter how much reasearch you do on a certain place, culture or the people there, you will never be able to get the full picture unless you experience it yourself. That being said moving to a different country is an important decision that should't be taken lightly, my advice for you would be to visit the place first, there are a lot volunteer programs or you can go there on a vacation for a few weeks and use that opportunity to vibe with the place and see how you like it there.

    • @Bubblelisous248
      @Bubblelisous248 2 года назад +12

      Ultimately it’s your decision but I would take into account that from what I’ve seen on studying there a lot of people express extreme loneliness in their videos. I would assume the racism and xenophobia play a role in that. Unless you have friends or family that already live there or will come with you I’d think it’d be hard not to experience that as well. I feel like your best bet is either finding a support group of other abroad students going to your school or something similar. Humans are social beings. When faced with challenges we have better outcomes when we have a support system. I believe this could either make or break your experience as a college student there.

    What I have observed about Korean woman is definitely the high competition between status and looks. They all would try super hard to be the skinniest and have the prettiest face, all of them wearing designer stuff especially those Dior bags that literally almost any female in Korea has. Or who has the best boyfriend, of course they only want rich and handsome boyfriends. The constant going to parties and showing off. It‘s an extremely toxic culture similar to the one in Los Angeles, California it‘s literally exactly the same. It‘s unfortunate but it is what it is. It‘s sad that girls constantly have to compete with each other and I am thinking for what honestly. For a man?! It‘s ridiculous.

I went to the Korea club in Los Angeles area once n bring Vietnamese, Im bald headed while everyone else had big bowl cut looking BTS hair. They would borrowed their rich uncle nice fancy cars n would VIP parked it in front of the club for status. I've seen Koreans here in India and they dress really casually like without make up and just in sweatshirts and jeans and all. I think that's because no one really cares as much about make up here. I for one don't. When it comes to being reserved and being prudes, it's normal in a conservative society honestly. It's the same here as well.
    However when it comes about like the comparison thing. Just wanted to take a moment to compliment you - you are both pretty and intelligent. At least thats what I see as a viewer and it’s definitely commendable.
    The impression I get is Korean girls seek more attention likely because they don’t get complicated enough just naturally in Korea.
    That’s certainly not the case in Canada. Whats wrong with saying you are pretty or sorry or thanks, no big deal as long as you mean it.
    Its nice to have found you and your channel. Im Canadian (Bangladeshi origin) but well pretty much Canadian with the old school mentality. So naturally I gravitated towards the K wave, the good of the culture your society is exporting. Im 40 and a Twice fan so yea that kind of sums it up. Just saying Im a fan and I like the nice shows, the slow burn love portrayed in the dramas and the lack of explicit content.
    So I appreciate the conservative nature of Korea and Koreans - hope that doesn’t change.

    Thank you for your unbiased assessment of your own culture, I myself enjoy K-culture and especially your people's K-dramas, so all that I know is based on that. so even though I enjoy your drama I had come to the conclusion that Koreans are a bit xenophobic, kind off prejudice to other shades of skin colors and stereotypical. an example I use is your dramas. In practically every Kdrama the leading male actors are almost identical to every other show. tall, slender, unshaven, same haircut. unlike western shows where the male actors vary from white, black, Latino, Asian, tall, short, built, etc. this I guess goes for most Asian cultures as well.

      Don't fall for these facade that presents Korean woman as the best. The best girl for you is a girl who accepts you and will grow with you. As a Asian American guy; I had the chance to mingle with almost every girl of every ethnicity when I was stationed in Japan while serving for the U.S. military. Korean woman are too shallow especially with the reputation issues that surround their culture. Most Korean born woman will not survive a culture shock if you take her back to your country of origin. Similar feats are for Japanese woman too. I'd place Japanese woman above Korean woman when coming to spousal wife duties. The Japanese culture is still more humble and loving than Korea. The only decent Asian woman that I realistically somewhat connected to was Filipina woman as they are more real and understand the brutality to life since Philippines is 2/3 under poverty. Don't put all your hopes in Korean woman. If I had the chance to go back in time; I would not look at Korean woman as the #1 best Asian woman. I am just a unbias Asian guy so people don't be bashing my truthful experience. Also my first few girlfriends that I ever committed into a serious relationships were white ladies only so that helps explain that it ain't your color, race, etc that matters most. It's your values and time on how you will bond with the girl into the far future.

    I laughed when soldiers got mentioned having other motives. Not saying it's totally wrong ,but you basically have 2 types of soldiers in Korea, the ones to avoid that are just looking to sleep around and the ones that are counting down the time before they think it's not creepy to try to marry you lol. Half of my friends that had tours in Korea came back with Korean wives and have at least 2 kids......The worst offender has 7 or 8 kids with his korean wife lol.

      Korean woman are overrated. Military guy here too. Filipina woman treated me with more dignity and respect than Korean woman. LOL. I also do not like Korean woman glorifying social media. That is how you get all these shallow Korean woman being manipulated by the media and by cyberbullying; they end up hurting or killing themselves. My brutal assessment of Asian girls you should mingle with: #1 Filipina woman, #2 Japanese woman, #3 Vietnamese woman, #4 Japanese woman, #5 Thai woman, and lastly #5 Korean woman. These are the order of woman that I actually experienced decent time with in the order of best to worst. Now if you're talking about marriage that is a whole new list of Asian woman types that I had to rewrite. 2/3 of all the successful marriage that I saw from all buddies who married foreign Asian woman stuck with their Filipina woman to the end. I cannot say the same for any other race of Asian foreign woman.

    lol, Colombia (in South America) is very similar in the sense of looking put together. Colombian women look perfect everywhere they go. And it definitely has something to do with class! If you're not looking tidy or wearing makeup, there's a big stigma of how much money you have or not, it's crazy.

    I have learned many things since this is my fifth years in SK but i still don't get it why many women in SK especially in their 20s and early 30s spent so much money in luxury things. Even they took a day off ( in my case, one of coworkers took a day off to purchase a chanel bag that recently so hype in SK right now). I mean you could buy online but for spending like 7000 dollars for one bag is a big no no for me. I often saw many Korean women wear the same luxury brand on the street like Christian Dior especially the new IT Chanel bag.

    I think Korean girls definitely consciously and also subconsciously care about their looks too! It can be good and bad like putting effort into how you look can be good but when it’s over the top obsession it’s super harmful and damaging and basically ruins your identity and self-esteem or image, for example everywhere in Korea you go there’s like these small rooms filled w hair curls/straighteners makeup etc and honestly that’s no where else so it emphasizes looking good and constantly checking yourself out and also having the opportunity to constantly “fix” your looks for the whole time you’re outside which can be super toxic but also unique for foreigners to experience 😅

I dated multiple Koreans for three years dating in total, and they all differed. My current Korean girlfriend is not that active on social media and does not give a damn about the designer brands even doe she has a master's in fashion design, to state an example. The hook-up culture is also a thing if you are into partying.

    My experience over the years on interacting with at least two dozen or more Koreans - The women are charming and attractive. The men are jerks and blatantly racist too. My one actual 24 hour day in Korea - On two seperate occaisions a drunk Korean confronted me and my Asian wife with 6 month old baby - yelling and gesticulating at us until his woman pulled him away. Didn't experience this in other Asian countries I visited.

    I wouldn't say Korean girls are easy either. The issue I noticed as a foreign man is that both men and women are intrigued with a people from other cultures. It is an exotic thing. I heard he's kind of cute, but he is a foreigner. Kindness and respect dropped foreigner label. I do have a friend that was totally used by a US soldier in Korea for deployment. He ran up a huge phone bill on her phone. He left without a goodbye and without paying. So she was somewhat naive and easy.

If you are trying to approach a Korean woman, I definitely feel like girls are a lot for guarded, as they should be, because there is a lot tourists or even military men that have the wrong intention, so girls are likely to be a lot more cautious. I think that Korea has a lot of problem such as racism, rape, misogyny and pressure of being “successful” and “pretty”. But lets not pretend that other countries also have problems, different but equally exhausting. Im from LatinoAmerica and I always complain about security, Latinoamérica is one of the most dangerous places to live in. You cant go out without feeling like you could lose your life over a $200 or less phone. Women also suffer a lot of too, there are a lot of misogyny and rape because of our alcoholic culture, this isnt exclusive of Korea at all. The poverty, the fact that no one can get a job and that going to university is a privilege here. Our politics and public services as transportation, literally suck. In Korea the problem is overwork, here the problem is the opposite. Good education is a privilege, our public education is broken and ful of drugs..and also not available for everyone. Some kids walk km to get to a miserable school. Kids here are malnourished too. And we also have a problem with looks, if your body isnt curvy or its too fat get yourself prepared for plastic surgery. So in a lot of ways, Korea seems a better place to live in for me.

      I'll tell you about my country, here there is no alcohol, no porn because we're a religious country, people help each other, talk to each other in bus station even if they don't know each other, schools are for free, at University they give you money to study and it's free, after graduation they pay you if you don't have a job, no comparison, they all the same because we are Muslims, and if anyone treat you bad you can face him with God words, the only problem that the system is weak, luck of jobs, luck of services sometimes, and sexual harassment so you have to be wise but no drugs or legal wea.pons ........😂 Now I don't like Korea or want to go too, my country is a heaven, we just need to make better ☺️ I was about to forgot we treat foreigners as one of our family members...I'm talking about Algeria.
      Arab countries suppose to be the same...

    This thing about korean men being more put together is not so true…koreans are experts in showing themselves as well put together. And from my experience korean men are not happy. The way they talk about korean women made me understand that they prerfer to take care of themselves alone instead of doing it for women. So in the majority of cases when you see a guy “well put together” you`re looking at a guy that has not a lot to do with korean women.
