I have studied the concept behind this unit and I still don't honestly get what the difference is TONALLY between this and a typical boost. This actually when pushed very hard added some upper harmonics that i thought were too harsh even when dirty.

Obviously it can be adjusted and set right, along with the amp tone stack, and guitars volume to get way better tone than this.

can this replace a preamp when using acoustic transducers pickup?

Christian, thanks for watching and for your question. And, because the pedal has an adjustable gain knob it would work as a basic preamp for any type of guitar.
