Hello everyone. John updated one of his playlists four days ago. This means that he at least uses his channel. John, we all love your videos very much and are waiting for new ones. We hope you're doing well.
Hey John, I want to wish you well with the new year- I have to say your videos were continually insightful and uniquely calming. I think about this channel often, and I hope you’re in good shape
I have a nostalgic fondness for Hercules, which he performed at my first concert of his in 1976. It was an extended version that rocked me and 80,000 of my fellow fans at the Pontiac Silverdome.
When it comes to rock songs I must say that "Rock of the westies" lies in the forefront for me. Street Kids and Grow some funk... both got a really good groove and a band at the top of their game. He is really pounding the Steinway. Maybe there was some white powder involved
I would personally have called this list "Elton's Best Uptempo Numbers", since there are several on here that I would not call a "rock song" by any means, but you did say at the outset that you were using a broad definition, and you're of course allowed to do what you want with your channel :) . While there are breakdowns in both "All the Girls Love Alice" and "One Horse Town", I don't think the tempo actually changes here, so I wouldn't call these "slower bits". I do enjoy a lot of your picks, but I'm puzzled by the fact that you completely skipped over Rock of the Westies, the one Elton John album that rocked harder than any of the others. "Dan Dare", "Grow Some Funk of Your Own", "Street Kids" and "Hard Luck Story" would all have been fantastic inclusions, with some killer piano riffs from Elton, shredding guitar licks from Davey and Caleb, and even some dramatic inclusions from Ray Cooper, particularly during the outro of "Grow Some Funk of Your Own". I forget whether you included "Breaking Down Barriers" on the list or not, but I always thought that this would have made an incredible single that would have led to more exposure for The Fox, though as I've said before, I know Geffen Records downplayed The Fox in the States so that MCA wouldn't sue to get the rights to release it.

Hey John, it's been a while since your last video. Is everything alright with you?
I could have easily put Hey Ahab at number 1, over The Bitch is Back. I'd have probably let a good number of those ones we've been frequently exposed to over the years drop a little further back. Things I think you missed, though I'd have to check the other video - not 100% if this is a wholey accurate list of things you missed - Wicked Dreads (that was an hon mention wasn't it?), Take Me to the Pilot, Meal Ticket, The Cage, Rock and Roll Madonna, blimey Bad Side of the Mood too, those last two would be pretty high on any list of mine, Amy, Levon. Certain I wouldn't have had It's a Sin on my list - it's fun, don't dislike it, but not sure I'd have found a place for it on a list like this! You know what I'll just pick 30 out off the top of my Head, starting with those above (i'll try to pick ones out I don't think you mentioned, which might be quite a challenge). Wicken Dreams Take me to the Pilot (Gotta get a) Meal Ticket The Cage Rock and Roll Madonna Bad Side of the Mood Amy Levon Midnight Creeper Sleeping with the Past Religion (really love this song!) Heavy Traffic Chasing the Crown Guilty Pleasures I'm struggling Big Man in a Little Suit Actually not sure I like that enough (an hon mention) Nina Sails Whenever You're Ready We'll go Steady Again Have Mercy on the Criminal (maybe not upbeat enough - though I'd call it rock) Grey Seal Oh god - here it comes (I really don't dislike this song, though lots do) I am you Robot Ball and Chain (wondering if this has more of a country edge to it though) Mexican Vacation The Ballad of Blind Tom The Ballad of Danny Bailey Susie (Dramas) Slave (fast version) Stolen Car E-Ticket I Swear I Heard the Night Talking Love is a Cannibal That'll do!
Best rock songs from each of his albums: Empty Sky Take Me to the Pilot Ballad of a Well Known Gun Levon I Think I’m Going to Kill Myself Elderberry Wine Love Lies Bleeding The Bitch Is Back Meal Ticket Yell Help / Wednesday Night/ Ugly One Horse Town Part Time Love Victim of Love Two Rooms at the End of the World Heels of the Wind Dear John Kiss the Bride Lil Frigerator This Town Heartache All Over the World Goodbye Marlon Brando Club at the End of the Street Runaway Train Pain Wicked Dreams The Wasteland They Call Her the Cat Just Like Noah’s Ark Can’t Stay Alone Tonight Wonderful Crazy Night Angel Tree
In the US, "Classic Rock" stations only play the following uptempo numbers from EJ - Take Me to the Pilot (rarely), Burn Down the Mission (rarely), Madman Across the Water (rarely), Crocodile Rock, FFF/LLB, All the Girls Love Alice (rarely), The Bitch is Back. A shame they won't touch anything from his 80s and 90s work (although they do play other artists from those decades). I agree with some other comments that "Rock of the Westies" is probably his best "rock" album (although my favorite song from the album, I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford), isnt a rocker). Legendary rock critic Robert Christgau (not an Elton fan at all) considers it his finest album - don't agree but his new band really did rock out.

Hi John. A lot of us really enjoyed your videos. It's understandable if you've decided not to post anymore but definitely hope that you are well.

You are right, these are great songs. A shame that he stopped playing them live long ago.
When I think of a rock song by Elton John, the one that comes to mind is Li'l 'Frigerator.
Hello John, do you have any more videos in the pipeline?
I would personally have called this list "Elton's Best Uptempo Numbers", since there are several on here that I would not call a "rock song" by any means, but you did say at the outset that you were using a broad definition, and you're of course allowed to do what you want with your channel :) .

Good list, I agree with most of them, but I think I would choose Madness from A Single Man and Chasing the Crown from Twenty One at Thirty Three.

Have you ever thought of ranking elton's country songs? Like Jack Rabbit and Texan Love Song?
