  • There are several reasons why a home generator can be a good idea. First, a home generator can provide backup power during an outage, ensuring that your home has a steady supply of electricity.
This can be especially important in areas that are prone to outages due to storms or other natural disasters.
Second, a home generator can provide power for essential devices and appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, and medical equipment, during an outage. This can be especially important for families with young children or elderly family members, who may rely on these devices and appliances for their daily needs.
Finally, a home generator can provide a sense of security and peace of mind, knowing that you have a reliable source of power when you need it most.
Overall, a home generator can be a good investment for anyone who values the convenience and security of having a reliable source of power, especially in areas that are prone to outages.

Sweet setup. I've been looking at Gen Backup also and am torn between the Transfer switch and slightly cheaper Interlock. ATM, I'm leaning towards the Interlock as it appears I would be able to do the work myself, it really looks pretty simple. Probably would never even need it, but the peace of mind and reduced stress about power outages is very appealing.

Yes...interlock offers the option for you to "choose" which circuits are being supported by the generator....you can even alter your choice later or to load-level a generator that is often sized smaller than supporting all loads. A transfer switch requires you to pre-choose how many ( and which) circuitt. BUT......the generator should be floating neutral when using an interlock.....OR...... if the generator has bonded neutral, you need to break the ground connection at the inlet box for the 240 plug.... to only have the bond in the generator active and not the bond at the panel ( during gen operation). This is heavy on detail....see here.....ruclips.net/video/Nrnforx1uFI/видео.html
Important parts are found on timeline....4.01 to 10.36...going over various normal and abnormal(fault) conditions, and why this is necessary.

That's Why we Should build a Generator Shed for it to Reduce Loud Noise and keep it Weather proof 👍

Dont you need a soil spike? Or do you use the earth connection from the grid?

the panel of the home is grounded to the soil on the exterior of the home, the transfer switch is tied to the panel and uses the ground from the panel.

Nice system. Dual fuel is a nice option, too. For future videos, you may want to consider a wireless mic. When you were kneeling at the generator, I had to nearly max out my computer volume setting and then back it down quickly when you approached the camera.

Thank you for the recommendation, I bought a set shortly after this video and started using them. big upgrade.

Curious why you went with a $1,000 transfer switch instead of a $25 interlock kit?

More control, in my opinion I believe its safer.

Also, I want to use Propane because it doesn't go bad and won't gunk up the Carb.. (I'm not to swift when it comes to keeping an idle gasoline engine operable.) Would like to get a 100gal tank for it.

peace of mind is worth a lot, I have used mine to power my house 3 times in 2 years. not to mention I have used the generator for various things. I have found if you run it every 3-4 months the carb stays pretty clean and the stable fuel helps

I bought one of those crappy China made generators 2 years ago, what a waste of money. It never worked right and I sold it for a loss. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and get a good generator.

so far I have had good luck with this one. Ill update if it fails me

All of them are made in China.....look closely at the components and how they are packaged inside the frame....identical... Harbor Freight / Generac / Westinghouse / Champion / WEN, etc. Do a good run-in, change the oil, use a better sparkplug, etc....you're good to go.
