The EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra may sound like the big brother to the top selling Delta Pro we are all familiar with, but this unit lands itself in an ENTIRE new category. Is it a powerful, beast of a unit? Of course! SHOULD YOU BUY IT? That is the real question. When you look at the price of the delta pro Ultra vs a full Custom Solar Kit... things get shaky, there is definitely more bang for you buck out there (full custom home back up, or off-grid solar kits, come with a full roof of panels, and typically a little bit larger inverter and battery bank sizes) however.... the Ultra is the simplest, plug and play solution we have ever seen...

I agree with you 100%. I have 18kw worth of eco flow batteries with 8x400w eco flow rigid panels. I could literally take everything with me in 1-2 hrs if I were ever to move. I, like you, wanted the DYI kit because I'm cheep too. But, I have an RV I spend 3 months in the woods during deer season & 3 months at the lake in the summer. I'm 60 & retired. But the flexibility to not pay $50 per night at the lake for a power site & a backup for the house was best for me. I'm going to get 2 of the Zigs or Cigs (sp) 400watt flex roll up panels. I own a Delta Pro, a Bluetti AC200P and a few other smaller all-in-one units, for "convenience..."they are bolt-ons for a much more substantial solar/battery setup. I would caution anyone who takes power backup seriously to not place your entire backup strategy into one of these all-in-one setups. Are they cool? Yep...I may purchase another one at some point. The potential issue/risk (for me) is what to do if any single component fails in one of them (MPPT, Inverter, 12V output, battery cell(s), etc.). For a home backup, I'd use tried and true, stand alone, system components and use these for convenience only... or camping 😀

As the op pointed out, there are other options to Ecoflow that are a lot more cost effective. I think Ecoflow is designed as a more portable power source for camping, sporting events, exhibits, temporary storm power back up, etc. Anyone already owning a solar array setup can add this Ecoflow, but most likely we'd get a Solar Arc hybrid inverter and any batteries, but preferably, LiFePO. The tricky part is wiring it all together, because you need the correct wire and you need to know how to balance the solar panel loads with the battery inputs. It is not hard, but it takes a bit of know-how. You can also get a generator to charge up the batteries, but it is also expensive. BTW, solar panel prices have dropped and use 300W panels can cost less than $50 each. I have a 12KWH system and it would make sense to use the output from the existing inverters to feed the hybrid interter, charge the batteries, and then be happy knowing I am in good shape if there is a storm with more than adequate backup solar.

In order for me to upgrade to the Delta Pro Ultra, I have to rip out the original Smart Home Panel (SHP) and replace it with the Smart Home Panel 2 (I confirmed this with EcoFlow Customer Support). $3,500 for the new SHP2 (with install) and a loss of $3,500 for the old SHP just doesn’t work. Way too low of solar input. You have to essentially buy at least 2, but probably 3 inverter combos for a true whole home PV setup. At that point the cost is insane compared to the competition because you are buying so much unused redundancy. Also their "Smart Panel" that accepts this is essentially a critical load panel (12 slots) and not a whole home backup. I love Ecoflow in the mobile power space, but they missed the mark on whole home badly.

I would love one of these due to how clean & quite they operate compared to a gas generator but I see the Delta Pro Ultra 6,000 watt is $6,300 online. A Generac Guardian 18,000-Watt (LP)/17,000-Watt (NG) Air-Cooled Whole House Generator with Wi-Fi and 200-Amp is $5,163 Plus installation. Is there another combination of Delta brand batteries with enough to power a whole house that would be less expensive? I would also want a fuel fired generator, smallest size possible, that could be used the recharge the Delta. During a blizzard or high wind event the solar panels wouldn't cut it for me. Thanks!

Can I use my Honda EU2200i generator to charge on the 120 volt charging plug, while connecting the output of the DPU to the generator inlet box on my house? The idea being that under light loads the generator is keeping the DPU topped up, but under heavier loads the DPU can combine battery/generator? That way I could use the DPU for heavy draws, and also extend the useful run time of the generator.

i need this for my solar system, but I can't afford it .. Yet. I am getting solar installed at 37k. This will leave me broke. but I will need to save up 18k to get me one of those that will last me 24 hours or longer. I prefer the 60KwH option but can't afford that either. I need patience. then I can get it. I need it cause i want to be able to go totally off Grid and only have to pay for gas. 900.00 in my Electric bill is about what i currently pay on my Mortgage.

With the full kit that’s a lot of things that can go wrong when you do it yourself and might cost you more money in the end. If you make even a single mistake on the way. Certainly will cost you way more time

I'd love to see it discharging 240V while hooked up to a generator. None of the videos I've seen show whether that is possible!

Great overview, Thank You - I wonder if you have a video that shows how to connect this unit to the hose electric panel and switch automatically when the power grid fails - Also, ca you show the number of units needed to provide power for a house with 3 refrigerators, water heater, HVAC system, and electric stove and media center... Thank you in advance for your help.
PS: My highest monthly usage is 573KWH.

I believe the only way for an "automatic" switch over in the event of power loss from the grid is to use the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel 2 (SHP2). The SHP2 supposedly has an undetectable transfer in the event of a power outage and it has positions for 12 breakers. The panel is installed as a 100 amp sub panel off the main and you can use double breakers in each slot which could theoretically provide 24 circuits in the SHP2 as long as the total working load was within spec of the panel. Each DPU inverter also provides 7200 watts which is 30 amps but the panel will accept connection of up to 3 DPU inverter units for 90 amps combined but that gets expensive. I'm waiting on my order for a DPU with 2 batteries and the SHP2 from Costco and just had an electrician here this week to discuss the installation. I'd do it myself but the local inspector won't give me a permit for this magnitude of work.

I don’t know anything about the power setup I have, but I am learning quickly. I think, this actually may make a lot of sense for food truck/trailers as long as I am understanding everything correctly.

Very good video. Maybe a dumb question with today's new battery technology. My neighbor wants to stay away from these for back up power, as he is worried about battery fires. As mentioned, with new battery technology, what is the likelihood of battery fires with these new batts, and inverter setups? Also, so you don't need to use solar to charge these? For the short term, I guess I would just use the grid to charge them, and eventually move to solar, to get off the grid. I own the much smaller Eco Flow River, and charge that with two 110v panels. Thanks again for the good video.

What about the Apollo K5, it’s an all-in-one solution also. I haven’t seen you do a review of this one, as it’s the closest competitor, I think to the Eco flow ultra!

@TheSolarLab You made a comment about DP Ultra being in a different category than DPro.What did you mean by that? Is the Delta Pro better for continuous use and DP Ultra better for strictly limited backup use? I didn't quite catch what you meant there. Thanks!

Curious just how many appliances you can run simultaneously with 1x inverter and 2x batteries…to avoid over powering it (and what happens if you do run too much off it??). Will the app warn you before any long term damage is done?

What the best system for me to be able to get enough solar to full a Tesla car up to 100% daily, without pulling from the grid? I drive 240 miles a day from Bakersfield, CA to LAX 5 to 6 days a week and from Bakersfield to city of industry 3 to 4 times a month. From what I’ve seen so far a Tesla isn’t cheap than a civic or hybrid car.

Great video. What I would like for you to test is IF a single inverter will charge 5 batteries fully from only solar (LV & HV) on a daily basis with optimal sunlight? To me the inverter seems that it might be under powered for off grid purposes. This may be designed more for the occasional black out. Thanks!

I am seriously looking at installing the Ultra with 3 extra batteries. I already have 12KW solar array and a 20KW generator. Living so close to the ocean is eating my Genset alive so i have to switch soon for whole house backup. The Genset has a transfer switch so I am wondering where to position EcoFlo transfer switch. It seems every year we have a week long outage. I am thinking 24KW output can be recharged everyday by the solar panels but if there is a week of solid cloud can the generator be started to power the house and at the same time recharge the batteries.

I'm considering this unit for daily use to power several circuits in my home (appropriately sized and spec'd). Is it just for home backup or can it/should it be used this way especially considering the life of the batteries? Also, how much ambient heat does it generate, say with one inverter and three batteries working at 50% capacity and frequent cycling...can it be stored in a closet for example w/o the risk of overheating? I'm a novice in this space but learning quickly. Any advice on these questions would be helpful, thanks.

Or one other note if you want to make a test with it. Won't you hook it up to your house show how one battery cannot run your whole house and that pull out fall in power without at least 3 batteries, and you won't have full capacity of power to last all night long or all the zon as it needs to last with all 5 batteries and you can't get the full impact out because it aint gonna run at 7200 W without more than one battery.
