Thanks for the video! I put the top piece (black and white pieces) together first and with them face down I was able to put all the buttons in then laid the circuit board down and snapped the back in really easy.
There are newer models that just pull apart. No tabs. To see how those 2 black buttons go back into place, put them in in the cover side first and it becomes apparent. Mine also had moisture in them, probably from wet hands with beverages, or spilling something directly on them. I cleaned the covers and used Qtips you swab ained the wet spots on the buttons. I also dropped the metal connectors on the main board. Interesting how it directly affected those same buttons.
I have the one with 2 screws in the battery compartment, an RC738 with the illuminated buttons. To take it apart you pop the back off first. Start at the bottom of the back using a very small screwdriver to pry the back off. There are three screws holding the circuit board down. Lift up the circuit board and the button pad can be removed for cleaning.
Thanks for the video. Started to take it apart to try to get the play button to work better and realized there were tabs holding together. Decided to check youtube for the possibility of a video and found this haha :)
Needed a lot of cleaning, holds liquid for a really long time, lots of dog hair (yum). Started with dish detergent & soft brush, moved to alcohol. The toggles have a little tab on the side, it goes toward the outside. Don't stab yourself prying. Plastic scrapers might be safer for hands & the plastic shell. No need to separate the 2 pc. of the face shell apart. Take screws out of battery compartment, pry back off, take out three screws, remove board, don't lose the toggles.
Putting it back together shows the possible breakage of the tabs, and it wasn't completely reassembled in the video; there was still a gap. It's just easier to get a replacement from DirecTV.
How to clean once inside. The black on the back of the buttons are electric conductive. Clean them with alcohol while rubbing and then dry with a clean paper towel and let dry. The printed circuit board is conductive where the buttons touch so, clean with alcohol with a towel, then take a Soft Rubber eraser by rubbing carefully then clean once again with alcohol and dry. Now put the top upside down, insert the 2 toggel buttons, now put the rubber on top - DO Not Touch what you have cleaned. Use something to push the rubber part down into the slots and then but the back back on. Turn it over and make sure all buttons and toggles move. NOW - Insert batteries and press each button to see if everyone gets a green light. If good, Put the Screw back, close the battery compartment and watch TV.
if you will connect the two faceplate pieces together and then place the keypad in the faceplate and assemble upside down life will be much easier. as to the channel and volume buttons the three node sides go to center. :)
At the time I uploaded this video, there was nothing out there to show how to take it apart or put it back together. It was only after I took it apart that I thought that someone would probably want to know how to do it, hence why I uploaded it. So, if you want to learn how to take it apart, just start at the end and work backwards. (I’m not making another video) Yes it will be annoying but you’ll get the job done. That said, I hope it helps someone with this type of remote.
Not a mean criticism so don't take it that way. You need make a list, bullet points, for each step of the instructions. Practice your video several times using the list. Try to remove all the "uhs" and the unnecessary "ands", they just confuse your audience. Make and remake your video until it is flawless, and straightforward. A lot of people when they give these type instruction add a bunch of mumbo jumbo about about what happened to require the process. The audience doesn't give flip about that. Just step by step, how to take it apart. What type damage to look for. How fix it or clean it or dry it off. Then, step by step, how to put it back together. Nothing else, nothing more.

Thanks, that was I just needed. Note, it's easier to put it together if you flip it face down.

thanks for making this this really helped
I have this beastly little remote and hate it. I miss the early simpler remotes.

Wish it showed how take it apart, which is my problem.

Thanks a heap. This vid really helped. Don't let this one be your last because it's much appreciated.
