If you have a sharp tv and have tried everything to get your remote to control your volume without success try changing the brand name of tv to Hisense.It should work with first code.

That is the downside of the DIRECTV remote. You cannot navigate through your TV apps it only allows you to control the volume and the power button. You can only navigate through the DIRECTV menu and the options it offers.
What can you do if the remote passes all of the steps leading up to pushing the 981, but the 981 does not trigger any lights to appear? I can’t get beyond this step.
Do the lights in the remote turn on when you push any button? If yes next step, no replace batteries with NEW NEXT STEP After that push and hold the mute button at the same time and hold, if it blinks twice slowly release right away and enter the code If no lights flash go to next step. If they flash you are set. If you have a genie remote, you need to program to RF for it to work without having to point to the box NEXT STEP If the lights worked only when you pushed the select and Mute button, but are not working now, replace with new batteries. If you have replaced the batteries with fresh ones, make sure you are getting the two slow blinks correct. If they are but your remote does not blink 4 times after the 981, check to see if it changes the channel, if it does, the factory settings have been restored. If you can’t change the channel, you may need a new remote. Before you buy a remote, let me know how old is your directv box.
There is an internal malfunction. Try this: 1. Replace the batteries, and reset to factory settings 2. Push each button 10 times (if a button pad is stuck internally, this can unstick it.) 3. Look for cracks, is any your unit is probably damaged. Replace it at this point. If you are adventurous Do the next step. 4. If adventurous, Before buying a new one open the remote and clear out any debris or moisture. Re-assemble and test.
Your all over the place even running out to the car. Just focus and do one step at a time and you can slow down so we can absorb what your saying. You didn’t show me how to connect the remote to the tv of the hitting the two buttons doesn’t turn it off/on.

After changing the batteries, if it’s blinking red, whenever you push a button, it means that something got damaged in the remote. You can try programming to factory settings, but if it gives you a red light as you’re trying to do that you need a new remote. I have a link in the description for remote controls.
Oh no!!! Did you do the button test as shown in the video? If you push the button and the light turns on the button works, you will need to then program factory settings. If the lights don’t turn, but other buttons lien on the light, the remote is probably bad. I would try replacing batteries before ordering one. RC73 model here… everything works except power buttons to the TV… turns receiver on and off but not actual TV… watched your other video too.
Make sure the switch at the top center is set to tv. Let me know if that works. You must have it programmed to your tv model.

I’m sorry. You can not program a remote without the receiver. Once it’s programmed it’s no problem.

My red light stays on. On the shorter/wider remote.. it’s staying on constantly and no features work… it won’t reset

I put mine in the washer On accident I changed the batteries and the red light blinked a few times but it won't do anything else, can you help?

They want you to call tech support, then they try to sell you a warranty or a new remote.
