My remote got squirrely - had to click on channel GUIDE and then EXIT to get any other buttons to work. Then to use any other function it was GUIDE/EXIT again. New batteries, cleaning battery chamber didn't work. THIS worked the first time I tried it and now the remote is back to normal. Thanks!!!
3 times was the magic for me. An IT guy, I refuse to let devices defeat me! Your solution worked. I have cleared hung PCs in a similar way but didn't think it could work on a remote. A stuck electron, static electricity, or just plain old dust motes can gum things up. Thank you!

this was awesome i dug the old remote outta a drawer put fresh batteries in and the light would not even lite, i checked the web and found you,(since i was gonna try programing it anyway cause maybe it didn't even have a lite anyway, ) this worked wonderful, i can't express my thanks enough!

The remote on the left has a led at the top that flashes when you press a key. If a key is stuck it will keep blinking until the battery dies. Waiting for part 2 of this remote troubleshoot guide. Hahaha
