  • How to fix your remote control when your buttons are not working or you have to press hard to make them work.
    This is a very easy fix and most of the time it's just because of dirt.

    Thank you for the great tip. I used your guidelines to clean a non-responsive Verizon FIOS remote about 12 years old. Some of the buttons were very difficult to operate (I had to press very hard on them to make contact). I happened to have 70% IPA (rubbing alcohol), so I gave it a shot. Wow! The remote buttons now require feather-like pressure to operate. God bless!

    Thank you for this very clear video instruction! I've been struggling with a 'Power On/Off' Button for a couple of months. Was considering getting a new remote but didn't fancy paying out £15 for the privilege. Watched this, followed instructions and worked at first attempt. I've given you a Facebook mention as well!
    Just can't imagine why some idiots would give this a 'thumbs down'.

    Can you use ethanol instead of IPA? Thank you

  • @EAprima
    @EAprima 2 года назад

    I can 100% confirm that this method works immediately but to be sure, you'll need to see your remote performance a few hours after cleaning. If it doesn't work for you then it means you may have circuitry damage.
    NOTE - you can use 76.9-81% alcohol rub (the same one you may have purchased during this time of pandemic) BUT make sure you, 1) Use a cue tip for the rubbing on the circuit board. 2) Get a tissue and slightly squeeze the tip to reduce the amount of alcohol that you may have sprayed on or dipped into. 3) GENTLY rub over all the circuitry EXCLUDING the microchips. For additional safety, avoid rubbing over any holes on the board. When you have done that and you think it's dry, grab an ERASER, make sure the heads of it is clean and then GENTLY rub over all the connecting bridges to make sure it's clean. All other parts that need to be clean, just are sure to follow this video. Ensure everything is bone dry before putting the remote back together.
    Thank you,, Fixit for Reselling.

    I've tried doing most of this on a Humax RM 10331. When I put it back together, the light next to the power button just flashes on and off. I could get a new remote, but it is just more landfill. I think it is still producing the signal. I wonder about using too much force on the circuit board as it could mean something is not connected afterwards.
    Anyway, nice video.

      It could be the carbon has worn off the button. You could try sticking a tiny bit of tin foil on the button to see if that works. If it's the contact or traces on the board that will be a bit harder to fix but not impossible.

      It could be the carbon on the back of the buttons have worn out, which you could try sicking a tiny bit of tin foil to the back of the buttons to see if that works. Or it could be that there is some corrosion on the board if it has got damp at all. Maybe there are some rusted or broken traces on the board. Without seeing it it's hard to say what is wrong.
