I've found after taking one of these apart that the problem with unresponsive buttons is a buildup of silicone on the circuit board contacts. The rubber used for the keys is infused with silicone to keep them flexible. After a couple years of pushing down some of the silicon migrates out of the key rubber onto the circuit board. Clean the board and key bottoms with alcohol and a rag and it will work like new when you reassemble it.

I tried for about ten minutes and realized I did not know what the secret was. I now have a functioning remote thanks to you after sanding some ruse of the battery spring inside.

If you found urself here due to remote buttons giving u trouble, after u take apart, u might find oily substance between circuit board and rubber part the buttons are on, clean it with q-tip and alcohol, put back together make sure top slider in right position before closing, works like new. Word is the rubber gives off the oil after use, because it wasn't "baked" long enough before putting in remote.

Thank you for this video, it was almost perfect. Unlike some other commentors, I appreciate you adding a little touch of class with those lovely vocals.
My only complaint probably stems from this being 2+yrs old. The model of remote i'm dealing with has 2 additional screws (from the back of the board - next to menu button) that tie the buttons to the board. It comes out as a unit rather than 2-pieces like your video.
Normally that would be a minor note, but this remote had a corroded and swollen battery jammed in it and i dang near ripped the leads off the board.

This was great - I've got two remotes giving me problems, fought with one for a while and quit before it broke (It's an RF remote too, expensive bugger) now the spare was getting cranky, found your video and in 5 minutes it works like new again! And while it was apart, dish soap and a toothbrush made the housing face and buttons like new - a Q-tip and acetone, or a shot or CRC to clean up whatever has been spilled on it over the years, and good as new!

Pete - I apologize on late response as I never received notice...happens 90% of the time on YT, I have to purposely go to my videos and look. I am very glad my little dorky video help you out some, that was my hopeful intent, I figured, if I had problems figuring it out, somebody else sure has! :) Teardown is a fantastic time to clean properly! RF remote? Gosh, they last time I had one of those was back in the 80's with an 8 foot satellite dish! :) Thanks for watching! ~Jack, VEG

Yep... the DirectTV RF remotes are scarce, you have to request them, and pay I think $40 extra for them - I got lucky and a tech tossed me one, makes life so much easier since the location of my box wasn't great for IR.Thanks again.

Lol 😆 lol, instead of ending the marathon, You decided to take the remote apart, She sounds horrible.
However I did not realize that I had to break off the oval compartment to reveal the extra hidden 4 screws..😱 I broke apart the housing with a butter knife…
    It's all good !!
I submerged the remote into a chocolatey caramel ice cream bath..🤦🏼‍♀️
I sprayed it down with some rubbing alcohol and my little girl scrubbed down the circuit board with some Q-tips.. It's gunna set aside for a few days.. From one nerd to another, much respect and thank you very much..!! 🤓..

Thanks, this really helped me out a lot, I needed to clean up a remote I got secondhand it was gross and some of the buttons were acting up and sticking, nothing that alcohol and a few q tips couldn't fix though. the rubber membrane and plastic housing also needed a serioua bath in warm soapy water and a bit of scrubbing, it was a awful mess, but it pulled through. I really like this model over the newer one, It just has way more fuctions and I can actually control my TV without needing it's remote.
It sucks to have to go looking for it on the rare occasion I use it.

Wow! I fought this dang thing for a couple days. Finally gave up because I was afraid I would "break" it. Was about to call and see if the sat people would send me a new one. But alas!! Looked on youtube. (When all else fails, look on youtube.) Lol. I may even give you a "like" and "subscribe".. Thank you. You are my new friend. :-) Well, newest site I "subscribed too" any way. Now we will see if I can clean this thing up and make it work. Before I order a new one. :-) Getting tired of going to the telly and pushing buttons on it. Like I did way back in the day. Yes! I am that old. Thanks again. Thumbs up!
20 minutes later: Aha! It works. I did "like" and "subscribe".....

It seems as if the back of the key pad buttons have a conductive coating. This coating wears off and the buttons become unresponsive. I ordered a new remote but while waiting for it to come in I fixed the worn out 'on button' by cleaning the back of the pad and super glueing a tiny piece of tinfoil to the back of the faulty button. Worked.

Not sure if you remember, but she actually had a small hit back in the 80's called "Kiss-Kiss-Kiss", no, I don't think she can sing either and yes, makes you wonder what JL saw! They were a weird and freaky couple, they used to have reporters over and they would stay in bed doing adult activity in front of them! I've had dishes for sometime as well, started off back in the 80's when HBO first came out, had a trash can lid with a down converter to watch them. Also had a 8 foot dish with manual dish controls, had to go out and crank it to change satellites...awe those were the days! :) I actually used a large dish up to about the year 2000. ~Jack, VEG
