I have both the newer remote and the older model (long style). I put both thru the suggested alleged remote "repair or hack" with skepticism but when I read how many people were claiming success I gave it a try. Well, it was successful and I am grateful as I hated to change channels or access the menu. BTW, I did not apply any physical abuse or slapping of the remote. Thanks
It worked after the third sequence of slapping. During the “mad” pressing of buttons, on the DirecTV I noticed lights on the remote looked different when pressing its bottom two buttons [ the “-“ and the “APPS”]. I gave extra attention to those bottom two buttons. All is now working again. Thank you for your brilliance, and for your persuasive presentation that made me feel I could do it. You were right! 2:51!
I was having an issue where a button press wouldn’t register, but I’d here a ding sound like the receiver got some type of input but didn’t know what to do with it. I followed your steps and it fixed the issue. Thanks!
LIFESAVING HACK! Did the pressing of the buttons followed by a few smackings, and I still can’t believe it, it totally worked from the first go!!! Thanks so much!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It did not work for me but I thumbed up anyway. I did some research and found that the following steps did work for my very slow responding remote. Using your remote, go to... 1. Menu 2. Settings 3. Display 4. Video 5. un-check all boxes except 1080i and 1080p. It immediately fixed mine and the other 2 in my house
This same trick works for TVs that won’t turn on as well. It’s called a “power drain.” It basically drains residual power. I don’t think smacking it around like that is useful, although it is undeniably satisfying to hit malfunctioning electronics! Haha! For TVs, just unplug it, then hold the power button for 30 seconds. Works like a charm.
Give it some smacks, press all the buttons. You don't have a fn clue what you are talking about. I haven't in my 60 yrs of life seen a repair manual that says hit it really hard just to see if that works.
It worked for me😊
