Just saw this video series. I'm from Asheville, NC, so being familiar with the U-Joint builds running around here, I was in it to see their process. Sadly I tangled with a 6.0 in '05. That truck ruined my life as I was using it as a hot shot rig. Intercooler hose to the turbo inlet kept blowing off. When it would, the turbo would get trash in it and fail. New style clamps were the answer. If that thing hasn't been through the process to undo all the faulty 6.0 stuff, I'd drive it straight to a diesel shop with about 6-8k on hand.
The 6.0l are known for pushing oil into the sock charger pipe boots. It causes them to blow off like this. Always spray a rag with brake cleaner and wipe down the boot and the pipe where it blow off. Get a new boot as soon as possible and clean is as well before installing.
10000% this. Gotta install them dry as a nuns cooter. Even then, those silicon couplers end up being impregnated with oil on diesels and will always be lubed up to slide off if the clamps and lips on the pipe aren't 100%.
im far from an expert here but could't scotto just got a shop to slap a fatty weld on the pipe itself to have a little more of a lip to hold the clamp on ??
...ayy man, they're great engines... ...I mean, once you delete all the poorly designed Navistar emissions crap... ...and a few other odds & ends... ...head studs are a good idea... ...they're great engines man! lol
Totally like how you chose Napa over O'Reilly's for some quality parts. Just don't get their brake pads. The only parts from Napa I have a problem with haha.
I had an excursion with the 7.3 in it and I had the same problem. Turns out the aluminum pipe was slightly crushed into the shape of an oval. Got a pipe stretcher from the auto parts store and never came off again.
So... clean the inside of the coupler and the outside of the pipe - if there is oil or residue there it'll make the coupler slip off much more easily. A quick way to do this is with alcohol or chlorox wipes. Some hair spray or other light adhesive sprayed inside the coupler or outside the pipe just before installation can also give a bit more of a boost margin before it blows off. Edit: commented too soon, you've got the hair spray trick!
Love this series! In fact, maybe it could be some easy content to just have 2 Hoonistaff out on a road trip in a project car at any given time. They don't even have to have a point, just pick a place to drive to, find a restaurant worth road tripping to LOL. Wouldn't miss an episode!
Just want to chime in to say I'm loving this series! I wonder if it might not be enough clickbait and drama for youtube success but I appreciate it. Thanks guys!
Kudos! You really improvised on this one!!! I remember Arkansas Dave from the movie “Tombstone “ now we have an Arkansas Brian Scotto! BTW that is a kick a55 van!
We tore the same boot when towing my car over the Tejon pass on our f-350. Had to pull over and reconnect it 6 times on that trip. We couldn't find a replacement anywhere!
The only way to get those boost pipes to hold again is to clean the turbo and the inside of the coupler. The oil is what was letting it slide off. That being said, international should have had the parts if they knew how to look them up. It is the same engine that was in some of the Blue Bird school busses.
Your CAC pipe has a mount missing, you can see the tab where it’s broken off, usually bolts to another bracket that goes over the alternator , could be vibration shaking it loose.
In the time lapse it looked like the clamp didnt get tightened after the hard pipe was put in. Both times just shows you putting the hard pipe on and tightening the end closest to the headlight but not in the back. Maybe it got cut out?
I owned a Buick Grand National 6 hundred at the rear wheels, and a lot of parts in the end came from Ziegler Caterpillar homie that it needed because gm discontinued them long ago that's my go 2 in your situation.
It’s a specialty coupler cuz it’s backwards to normal. There’s a hump in the coupler and a indent in the pipe so it doesn’t slide off. Plus you have to clean all the oil off the coupler and clean it real good. Best fix is get new intercooler hard pipes and regular couplers and ditch the ford setup.
I have 5.4 gasoline e350 (2006). I dropped a valve and had to rebuild the heads. Without a lift, garage, or engine hoist. It was the worst fucking accessibility I have ever seen in a vehicle. I'm only 3:00 into this video and I'm already groaning for you Scotto
Scotto next check places like truck pro especially navistar made many of those motors , most the timè they have lots of parts you cant find at normal autoparts store
Compressor surge is bad for big diesels. Get a billet compressor wheel, or throw a T4 conversion on there. Also don’t run more than 1250* EGT for extended periods. These trucks throw boots. Get a new boot kit (with the lips on the boots) with proper clamps.
Is it just me ... but aren't those beadrolls backwards?? Shouldn't the be on the OD side of the pipe so the clamps actually hold? They're not doing anything right now
blowing couplers apart or jsut slipping off? coulda did the hair spray trick if its just slipping off. edit: i made it the part where you used hairspray. yay!
So true when it comes to anxiety! I had one blow off in the middle of SC during the summer and had to make a rag/zip tie heat sleeve. That sucked
One 10 minute test drive was all it took for scotto to give up on the headlights.😂
I was like no way, they are going to do the headlights! But no. Haha.
Massive shoutout to Will for putting up with Scotto's Carcaine roadtrip excapades
That title had me triple check for a stroke.
Edit: Thanks for the fix Shredditors :)
For real 😂
Is it scotto’s if does it run?
Dude had a brain fart forsure.
“Is it Scotto’s, if it’s running?”
I soooo did a triple take!
Think you meant "powerstroke"... gotta stay on brand.😂
@@shifty1927 missed opportunities, god damn it :D
Drone shots on a roadtrip is nuts, shoutout Will for carrying Scotto across the country. Great production quality on these eps

I could watch seasons of this type of content. If fills the RoadKill-shaped hole in my heart.
Really want to give props to the editors for the hit markers, the dedication is real lol

Exactly this, 6.0’s 80% of the time will blow the cac boots off every time, if you don’t brake clean and wipe dry.
10000% this. Gotta install them dry as a nuns cooter. Even then, those silicon couplers end up being impregnated with oil on diesels and will always be lubed up to slide off if the clamps and lips on the pipe aren't 100%.

Brake clean to dry it, hairspray to set it.
You know you’re tall when you can work on your LIFTED van motor space as if it’s a regular car
Oh wow a 6.0 broke down on y'all?? Never saw that coming lol
I love that you can make content from and monetize this issue and still feel the anxiety that the rest of us feel in this situation.
What does a 6.0 and a Blender have in common?
They make great milkshakes
...ayy man, they're great engines... ...I mean, once you delete all the poorly designed Navistar emissions crap... ...and a few other odds & ends... ...head studs are a good idea... ...they're great engines man! lol
@@RyTrapp0 Once you delete the 6.0 engine all together and Cummins swap it.
once you dump 10 grand in it its a great engine.......
They're not as common in the vans as the vans are de tuned. Unless, you're doing no maitence.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like the Church Camp Van videos should be released on a Sunday with a Hoonigan Scripture 🙏
bro the Napa yall stopped at is in the town where I live. Thats wild
Scotto content is the best content out of Hoonigan
The Aqua net hack brought me back to my BMX days. Damn i feel old! Lol

Dude Scotto is the man to road-trip with it always looks like fun and it’s like a nonstop hoonigan podcast
It would be nice if occasionally he shut up.
@@HooniganProjectGarage 😂 nah guys that’s pure knowledge spewing out of Scotto! Put me and him on the podcast we’ll make it a four hour pod lol
Let’s go Scotto 🤘🤘🤘 I love these adventures with Brian episodes.

Your new task should you choose is the make sure every shop along your route have that parts 😂😂
You should hAve had that speed shop weld a bead around the lip of that aluminum section of boost pipe so the clamp held the coupler better.
I've blown the stock turbo-to-intercooler hose wide open on 2 Audi A4s... always a good time.
We had an f250 at my job. It did the same thing. It turns out the intercooler was clogged.
Hope this helps
Thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations. Now I know what to expect when buying a used van.

Morning Uploads are the best! Let’s go!
I’m guessing the special stop will be Shamrock Texas. Great film shot with Ken!!!
Just want to chime in to say I'm loving this series! I wonder if it might not be enough clickbait and drama for youtube success but I appreciate it. Thanks guys!
We made this one for the core fans.
Bravo shredditors for the space balls cut in 😂😂😂👏👏👏
I was so anxious watching this haha I feel like I'm on the adventure with you boys, such great content 👍
Kudos! You really improvised on this one!!! I remember Arkansas Dave from the movie “Tombstone “ now we have an Arkansas Brian Scotto! BTW that is a kick a55 van!
The moment i heard 2 bars of boost on a powerstroke I knew the van was in trouble
The space balls edit is GOLD!!! lmao
I love a dystopian door chime in the morn
Really enjoying this series, thanks for sharing!
Scotto’s Van Vs Ricer Miata’s 7.3 haggard Van.
Van edition
This Vs That! Make it happen!
I can’t wait for the next episode! Another revisit to a Gymkhana location!
We tore the same boot when towing my car over the Tejon pass on our f-350. Had to pull over and reconnect it 6 times on that trip. We couldn't find a replacement anywhere!
Love the church van and road trip content!
Hmmmmmm Permatex Orange actually looks like an good buy rn. Ads never make me buy things but that did lol
"you wanna change the headlights while we're in here? Um, let's test drive real quick..." SMOKE BOMB no headlights 🤣
Ahhh yesss, the color "Ahringe", my fave! :P
YESSSSS 🥳, thank you to the whole Hoonigan team
Shoutout to Mike 😎👍🏾
had a bit of a roadkill vibe...searching for that particular unique part but not certain if it's available in the next town.
Brian's Truck Shop in Lead Hill Arkansas specializes in Power stroke diesels and transmissions. I surprised no one recommended them.

That's funny you said something about the hair spray that is the kind my step mom used
Ah cool, you guys were in Mo-town!
I work at the car museum right down the road from where yall stayed would've been cool to meet ya be safe
5.30 Bryan states not sure how he going to get a tool in there to work on it , however aren't you the tool already, ❤ you mr scotto
When you’re reusing rubber couplers on a diesel, you have to clean them and the surfaces are going on. Or they just keep blowing off!
Your CAC pipe has a mount missing, you can see the tab where it’s broken off, usually bolts to another bracket that goes over the alternator , could be vibration shaking it loose.
Saw that. Looks like the po cut off the bracket…
Scotto is playing life like a RPG. PARTS FAILURE: +75 Adventure 😁
I'm loving these episodes
Hey scotto should get one of your speedy boys to roll a bead on your piping. Help with your boost blowing issues!!
Def radiator springs is a must see on Route 66
In the time lapse it looked like the clamp didnt get tightened after the hard pipe was put in. Both times just shows you putting the hard pipe on and tightening the end closest to the headlight but not in the back. Maybe it got cut out?
This video seems like it should be a giant advertising campaign for Wiggins clamps
Should have went to the first Walmart on Bentonville,Arkansas. A suppose missle cylo is near there. FYI.
I owned a Buick Grand National 6 hundred at the rear wheels, and a lot of parts in the end came from Ziegler Caterpillar homie that it needed because gm discontinued them long ago that's my go 2 in your situation.
Yup your local semi truck dealer is what I meant!
Who ever cut this video had way to much fun with it
Never tried Permatex Arrenge before
💯 you're going to Radiator Springs

I blew my charge pipes off my 05 F250 a few times and just got new boots and bead rolled aluminum pipes
Keep those tools handy for that charge boot. You'll get pretty good at putting that back on till you make something better.
It’s a vgt turbo and the veins are clogged with soot so they don’t open and you get that turbo surge
Editors earn their keep

Gonna need to have vband made for that boost pipe
Shamrock Texas for the next episode ☘️ 😊
I would have had a shop weld a mount point bracket on that tube. Pop in a 10mm/m8x1.25 or whatever bolt and just make sure the tube cant move ;)
20yo... lol vanlife in an 89 E350. 34yo. Still kickin..
Oh btw you will be pulling the body off the frame when you need to work on that 6.0.
My oldest son lives in Russellville Ark.
When will there be a "Scotto's bolt restoration service" 2.0 shirt?
Ford’s gonna Ford, you gotta be ready for it
"No Limit Fab." "Actually we need the van part, it's a little different." "One Limit Fab."
I!m not from your side of the pond but have done route 66
never heard a wheel being described as "A lot of stuff from a hardware store" hahaha
Is it just me ... but aren't those beadrolls backwards?? Shouldn't the be on the OD side of the pipe so the clamps actually hold? They're not doing anything right now
HOLY BAG OF AIR PIPCORN
What seats y’all got in the front
Scott! Where can I find that white and green Hoonigan shirt with the horseshoe on it. I couldn’t find it on the website. Is it discontinued????
Was a St Paddy’s special. Limited edition. Sorry.
Does any bagged food company fill their bags more than half way anymore? Any at all??
I had to replace the turbo on my wife’s f250 and even in a truck it’s crammed against the fire wall and the truck is 3 feet off the ground
One Bite Potato Chips.
Make it happen Scotto!
Yasssss another video!
Where are all the ford dealers/ commercial truck shops?
It would be my dream to have the boys come into my parts store and buy stuff from me
blowing couplers apart or jsut slipping off? coulda did the hair spray trick if its just slipping off. edit: i made it the part where you used hairspray. yay!
That replacement hose that was shipped out looked questionable but that blue one is on the money but we want those headlights installed #hoonigan4eva
Maybe you have an obstruction in the intercooler causing you to blow the piping off.
Lol I just called the boost pipe blowing off in my head the exact time it did.
It's not there fault, it's a ford
