Scumbug’s not running and we don’t know why, so we took it to the pros at EMPI to get it back to fighting shape to race on THIS vs THAT Off-Road.

I remember when Hoonigan built and worked on cars in house. Letting all the good mechanics go was a mistake.
Yeah but you have to actually pay mechanics and that hurts the shareholders bottom line. No can do. Line must go up. Cheap content only. This Vs That forever because it costs them nothing to produce .
Scotto talked on Matt Farah's podcast about why they dropped the build shop, the sort of projects they had suppy and grim working on just wasnt what they wanted to be doing with their time post the death of Ken

I'm sure they can still work on "regular" stuff- but why do that with an Air Cooled VW, when you have EMPI right around the corner?

I'm so deeply saddened that we will never get the hoonigan we all grew to love. I understand the boys have to move on with their lives and careers but man, daily transmission really made the bad times good. Thank you guys for everything, god speed
Hopefully the OG crew is reading all these comments and they get back together under their own brand that no one else owns or has authority over. They know it’ll succeed and not have to answer to anyone.

Great to see EMPI still doin their thing after all these years. I remember feeling special cause I had the only EMPI wheels in town.
Visiting iconic shops in SoCal and bringing projects along with is one of my favorite parts of Hoonigan!

When I lived in Cali when I was 17 I had a 2180 CC in a 57 oval window rag top. It was yellow and it was so bad ass. Wish I had it now. Porsche alloys on it also. Absolutely loved that car.
Hoonigan is on the way to become The Escapist of automotive youtube. All of the talent got driven out by the corpo side, and the channel is dead.
Not exactly a 1:1 comparison, but I get the sentiment. Escapist fucked up by firing Nick, it just happened to work out in the way that the entire video production team really rallied behind him and threw their middle fingers up as a unit and created Second Wind. It was swift and targeted. The downfall of hoonigan is slow and as far as I know, they haven't "forced" anyone out, and the OGs don't seem to have any plans to reunite under their own independent banner, atleast not for the time being.
If WheelPros had canned Scotto after Ken's death, they probably would have all rallied together and done the same, but that's not how it's gone down.

They only make a video if there is a sponsor which WILL 100% kill the brand. So they have sponsors but all the people who buy their shit will stop caring and stop buying. An old beetle is one of those cars you cant loan to just anyone. Not suprised they siezed the engine in it
13:06 don't move on we have something to talk about here, I noticed that they bored out the top of the cylinder heads to where the head studs are in the combustion chamber. Wouldn't that cause a sealing problem, you would have to put sealant on the studs and even then you might have a compression leak
No compression leaks here. ACVWs seal by pressure, aluminiun head against cast iron cylinder. It sounds weird, but it is made since the 70s and they don't leak
