I find it so fascinating to see Dafoe on screen. Intense, focused and profesional. But of screen he's just a man who gets to what he loves for a living. Full of warmth, intelligence and generosity to share his experiences.
I'm surprised he didn't mention his role in "To Live and Die in L.A." as counterfeiter Rick Masters. The movie was made in 1985 before Platoon and it is a masterful performance.

@@modest1989 Or he's acting like he's an arrogant guy who's acting like a chill guy who's acting like an arrogant guy who's acting like a chill guy.... Actception.
Willem Dafoe is a freaking chameleon! Everything he touched he performed brilliantly. Unlike so many actors that squeeze a part of themselves into it, he seems to be aside himself, and becomes the essence of the character, and is detached as himself! If he didn't look like W. D. you would never know it's him! I can see that being way more fun than trying to be something else, yet still trying to make sure you are recognized! I think he made a wise decision not to be the center of attention, and by doing so gives everything he touches so much more reality, and so ends up to be the center of attention anyhow, for not standing out in any deliberate way. He has also given many newcomers in movie making a chance and helped them excel, by seeing the vision in story and what ever else over mere authority. Christopher Walkin is also well known for that, and would be in your bands video for no cost if it sounds interesting and different enough!
I love how he's an artist who seems to not be very pretentious. He will do very artsy stuff, to dramatic stuff, and also do the very fun silly stuff. He truly just loves to act.
I love how he says his story about the philippines Most people will say "its terrifying" But he said it was powerful That means a lot to me as a filipino
I loved "The Last Temptation Of Christ". I was lucky enough to see it theatrically in 1988 (with protestors a plenty outside the theater). I talked with them and they said it was a heretic because I admitted to being a Christian (I still am, by the way). I saw the film for what it was. At the beginning the crawl says that it Isn't based on The Gospels and it was a fictitious view of Jesus' human side while every other movie concentrated on his divinity. This film showed both the human and the divine.
Yes. Very true. Martin Scorsese, who is Catholic, also stated very clearly it was based on Nikos Kazantzakis book, and religion was important in his life in many ways, regardless of any film or story. Jesus is about love. I think anyone who actually reads the Gospels with an open heart and mind will easily grasp this. No movie, book, fact, fiction, or otherwise will ever change this.
Willem Dafoe's characters have all been so vastly different that I didn't know what to expect of him as a person. He's so charming and humble in this interview that it's thrown me through a loop lol
You’ve spun your last film. Had you not been so selfish, your little movies delay would’ve been quick and monthly but now that you’ve really pissed me of, I’m gonna delay it, year, after year.
He has such a warm and calm demeanor which is a startling contrast to his role that stood out to me the most, Norman Osborn in the Marvel movies. And oh my gosh he was in some way part of one of the most significant events in Philippine history, the People Power Revolution of 1986.

I will never forget watching The Last Temptation when I was 12 years old with my mom. I got so scared but amazed at his acting, I had nightmares that night. But I knew he was bound to be one of my favorite actors and people ever. God bless Willem, what a unique person.
It’s a shame no one really talks about his role as the detective in American Psycho. No one else could’ve nailed that role the way he did.
he excels, very true.
Yeah, not much screen time on that one, but he totally nails it.
He reveals so much about himself in casual conversation...
I'm also surprised it wasn't mentioned here
I clicked this video for that specifically. That was such an ambiguous role and there’s so much speculation surrounding that character. I wish we could have seen him elaborate a little bit on what he felt the detective knew, or if he was even a real detective.

Willem Dafoe and Steve Buscemi in... The Love Bus.
One of THE most underrated actors out there. When I hear he’s attached to a film or project I always have to check it out. Love his style and range

He has such a warm and calm demeanor which is a startling contrast to his role that stood out to me the most, Norman Osborn in the Marvel movies. And oh my gosh he was in some way part of one of the most significant events in Philippine history, the People Power Revolution of 1986.
