This guy is an actor’s actor. He always takes on his roles as high art. I don’t think that he has once thought about the fame and notoriety of being a big star - he is an artist producing fine art: he uses his whole body and mind in bringing his characters to life. I find his performances mesmerizing.
It’s such a testament to his acting that Willem has one of the most distinctive, recognizable faces and voices in Hollywood, yet he STILL manages to completely disappear into his roles.
It's easy to notice how much effort and detail he puts into every role - and he is delighted to do so. Maximum respect to a complete actor and what a voice to tell stories.
Willem Dafoe is very humble, honest, knows and is highly detailed with his craft and methods in acting. I think he deserves a Kennedy Honor Award. I hope the Academy honors him sometime within the next five years. We have lost so many great celebrities before they were given recognition they deserved, some that never received a Kennedy Honor Award that I believe deserved one.
Agree- I actually like it’s inclusion. I don’t remember hearing a ton of helicopters in the film, but things like that just kinda add to the immersion. That’s super important for a movie like Florida Project
I had to find out if Willem has an Oscar and I was blown away at the fact that he actually doesn't have one! The mastery he demonstraded in this video was just out of this world, he knows what he is doing, he obviously cares for his craft and it completely shows !
I like to think that scene where he starts laughing he is actually in a lot of pain, but he knows he is about to break Peter's morals so it makes him happy.
What a legend. Every one of these films are iconic and in no little part due to how his performances enhanced the film. Also the helicopters in orlando are just a piece of everyday. They did a good job showing how rough life can be around here for people.
Such an under appreciated INSANELY talented actor. One of the best dramatic actors of our generation of cinema tbh. So many nuances brought to so many extraordinary but ENTIRELY different roles throughout his career. I love this man.
The way he talks about the process of making of these movies, the behind the scenes and his thought process of how he approaches his roles just really demonstrates how much he loves what he does, he's amazing ★
I am REALLY glad that alongside the blockbuster stuff, they got him to react to two of his VERY best, yet incredibly different performances of his career in The Lighthouse and The Florida Project respectively. So cool.
Love how passionate he is about what he does. Describes his performances as "Just natural" and "Just music" with a huge smile on his face. He's obtained a level of love and appreciation for the craft that not many get to.
Dafoe is one of the best acting teachers alive as well. He knows it all. His advice about how he doesn’t think about his face when he is acting is amazing. You can look ridiculous trying to hard to convert your face to an emotion. Just express that emotion as genuinely as you can and the rest will follow.
Willemstad Dafoe is a true professional. We need more actors like him. Someone who actually acts. Not someone who just gives the same performances in every movie
There are a handful of actors that NEVER give a bad performance. He's one of them. As far as I can tell, he is fundamentally incapable of sucking at his job.
Fun that you can hear his Florida accent come out when he talks about getting into the movie as a "regular person" and not an "actor." Gives you an insight into how an actor works.
it’s so good to see he’s studied his craft to be a master but is still humble, he’s crediting all his other talent on the films, whether they’re in front or behind the camera, and he still seems keen and energetic enough to have a long career ahead of him!
Not just any actor could pull off what Dafoe did in Inside. That is a showcase performance piece for him. Not necessarily for every audience but it does all rest on him.
Dafoe spent over 20 years helping run a small theatre company. Even when he didn’t need the money for years and was a busy actor he stick around to teach acting.
Willem Dafoe is in the top ten best actors of all time. He's a little bit theater, a little bit screen, a little camp, and a little serious. He can hit any mark.
He got robbed of an Oscar nomination for The Lighthouse. Hands down.
I disagree.
He was robbed of an Oscar win! The fact he wasn’t even nominated is a downright crime
Oscars are allergic to horror

Completely agree
It’s insane how well Dafoe slipped back into Green Goblin after 20 years, like he did Spider-Man 1 the day before.
His performance as Green Goblin is the best Spider-Man movie villain ever put to screen man
@@mickeymouse7726 Alfred Molina is a very close second.

@hyperdeath84 Very good point.

Absolutely. He’s the real deal.
Well put.
The Lighthouse was such a good movie, Willem and Robert were fantastic
I agree 😊
"Good" hmm...well, I DO remember it! = a GOOD thing these days, right?
beyond good ;)
Should've released the colored normal ratio version, I just don't understand the appeal of a black and white movie...

Willem Dafoe is highly rated as an actor. Yet, he's still underrated.
The Florida Project was a devastatingly beautiful film, everyone did such a great job. Definitely worth a watch.

Haha even Ke Huy Quan who disappeared for 30 years still got an Oscar more than Willem Dafoe and Harrison Ford combined hahahaha
No Jewish friends, no oscar
Character actors have a tough time getting oscar nominations. If it's any comfort, the Oscars are kind of complete horseshit anyway.
