Robert Pattinson recently did one of those "my most well known roles" videos and he was talking about working with Willem on the The Lighthouse and how they would rehearse so much leading up to filming and they would basically run through the entire film and Willem would immediately jump up and be like "Again!". He apparently just has boundless energy.
This man deserves all the love and accolades in the world. Not for just being one of the greatest actors of all time. But also for just genuinely being an awesome and cool human being.
Willem Dafoe was absolutely fantastic in this show. Everybody knows him as a powerful dramatic actor but he totally killed last Saturday. He should host again soon!
I enjoyed that opening more than most recent openers. Less cringy and complicated maybe. Thank you Mr Dafoe! 👍🇬🇧 Platoon still stands as a really great movie.
This man is so wholesome. I would love to just sit down and have a chat with him. He is self aware of himself, his situation, his upbringing, all the memes about him, and he takes it ALL in stride. That's a sign of a genuinely wholesome human being
He was so great throughout this whole show. I love that he’s up for anything, and he’s all in. His smile is infectious- he seems like such a solid dude.
My favourite moments of the host monologues are the last few seconds, when the camera pans out. It's so interesting, as a performer, to see how they handle it: hold the focus, turn for quick change, interact with the cast, etc.
Willem Dafoe is probably my favorite actor. His performances in Boondock Saints, The Lighthouse, Antichrist, the Last Temptation of Christ are legendary. He's great as the green goblin as well. Willem is an absolute gem.
Willem Dafoe is a legendary actor playing all the roles in films. He's genuis and he is now SNL first-time host. He did a really good job. Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏾👏🏾👏👏👏🏼👏🏼
Dafoe is awesome. So happy he’s getting huge public praise right now. He’s had an awesome career and still kills it every role. He was awesome in the lighthouse a couple years ago.
My favorite Willem Dafoe roles happen to be Platoon and Clear & Present Danger-but it’s certainly nice to see his comedic and personable presentation style. Hollywood can’t go wrong with him.
Willem Dafoe is the man. You can just tell he has such a chill & laid back personality. He should of been on SNL a long time ago. If u don't Ike this dude then something is wrong with you.
Dafoe is just a great guy...overall... No scandals, a down to earth guy even when approached on the street, no bs.. He's even given Keanu a run for his money in terms of life attitude. a true actor through and through..
This man it’s not just legendary actor,he’s also a really humble a nice guy, I’m glad he’s getting more recognition for Spider-Man but he deserves even more I mean the fact he didn’t win an Oscar already or wasn’t even nominee for the Lighthouse it’s just stupid.
Willem Dafoe, despite his surname, seems like an extremely friendly guy who you can really get along with. ^_^ The amount of respect he garners is akin to the likes of Tom Hanks and RDJ. :D
He's so brilliant, warm, and genuine. Such a refreshing treat! Fellow Wisconsinite here! Also, he stole da show in da Boondock Saints, dontcha kno. Aw cripes was he good in 'nat one. 💯 ❤️😝
Tbh he has always scared me but I always knew he was a hell of an actor. And now that I have seen him in this monologue outside of movies i can tell he's a genuine happy, down to earth, humorous guy. He seems to be able to laugh at himself which means he's a good sport too. What a treasure
Willem Dafoe is for sure one of the most attractive actors of all time to me. So charming charismatic, talented and weird. What a man! Bet he's a werewolf in the sack too
He has such strong features, it makes him LOOK intimidating. But he seems like a chill, cool guy. Among my top 3 most watched movies is The Boondocks Saints (high school through college undergrad years). Loved him ever since.
As a Wisconsinite who grew up near and also lived in Appleton for a few years, this was 👌 (Although there's no such place as "Crambos" as far as I'm aware! But we do, in fact, say "Bubbler!")
I once spoke to a person that claimed to be a founding member of the Wooster Group online, could have been Willem Dafoe, could have been a catfisher. But for some reason, this episode he hosted, brought the memory of that moment back. What a cool cat.
Dafoe and I went to the same high school... Though I graduated in 2019 (and he never did) some of my VERY old teachers there actually went to school with him, and remember his antics which lead to his expulsion. He's one of the few famous people to ever come from Appleton, so we cherish him for that... But, I'll never forget when my Principal and a couple of my teachers often told me "Mason, you're going to be the most famous person to ever graduate from Appleton East High School".
I love how he is aware of the memes on him and accept these with a laugh. Willem is a genuinely good person
The goblin ain’t
@@elizabethtrepanitis1087 He could probably turn the Goblin around with a nice sit-down conversation and some herbal tea.
@JG the Faded Jedi the hell?!
Eh who said it’s willem Dafoe it’s Willem dripfoe :-:
He's a good sport
"The vibe of a sociopath"
20 years ago played the green goblin so iconically they brought him back after 20nyears and 2 spiderman reboots
"The vibe of a sociopath " Says the Green Goblin
I think it is also the giant mouth that can curl to the level of cartoon Joker
Screw the Green Goblin- ever seen "Wild At Heart" with Nic Cage and Laura Dern, by David Lynch? Dafoe is creepy af in that!
and he was even better in the role.
@@grandohuckabee 🤣🤣🤣🤣!
"That was me" joke was written and executed to perfection. Had to watch it like 3 times.
Yes! 3:05
IKR: his expression and timing was superb!
@@theultimatereductionist7592 3:09
It’s a horrible film.
@@rokaanalzeer7148 That's the joke.
As a Wisconsinite, Bryant and Day's accents were straight from Minnesota. Us Wisconsinites don't talk quite like that. Dafoe, however nailed it.
Also folk from Meechigan. That Canadian accent. Eh
Honestly that whole part with the two cast members interrupting was super cringe and unnecessary
They always screw up Midwest accents. Cecily’s Gretchen Whitmer is hard to listen to.
@@felipew6716 as somebody who hates Gretchen Whitmer with a passion, it gets a pass from me
People from LA think we all speak like we're from North Dakota up here.
Makes me feel secure that Willem is so vibrant and sparkly after all these years. Maybe we aren’t aging faster than expired milk after all.
This comment is propelling me into old age w grace, low key
He is a lifelong Ashtanga Yoga practioner.
@@julesjma is that true?

I think he made lot of her stunts in the new Spider-man movie.
3:05 “…..that was me.”
Perfectly timed and delivered😂 great to see Willem hosting.
It warms my heart to see Willem Defoe finally getting the love and recognition he deserves
1:54 ya know... I'm something of a scientist myself
Willem is a top shelf actor. Jealous his path lined up so well… he does a fine good job in every role.
I enjoyed that opening more than most recent openers. Less cringy and complicated maybe. Thank you Mr Dafoe! 👍🇬🇧 Platoon still stands as a really great movie.
Platoon had an Oscar for best film. Of course it'll stand :)
This man is so wholesome. I would love to just sit down and have a chat with him. He is self aware of himself, his situation, his upbringing, all the memes about him, and he takes it ALL in stride. That's a sign of a genuinely wholesome human being
Somebody please give this man an Oscar already
I live in Wisconsin most of my life, NOBODY talks like that.. that being said, Love you Willem 💕
How is this Willem's first hosting gig?
He's an icon!
They don’t know how much he’s sacrificed.
Willem Defoe is way too high on life ... and I love it, The world needs more personalities like his. God bless him !
He was so great throughout this whole show. I love that he’s up for anything, and he’s all in. His smile is infectious- he seems like such a solid dude.

As someone also from Appleton, it's great to see that Willem Dafoe remembers where you drink water from. 🤣
This place sucks just like green bay does
Dah Bubbler !
I only knew about bubblers because I am an fan of RedLetterMedia.
Glad they weren't spreading misinformation. LOL
i say bubbler in massachusetts!

The best part about this is he was talking in Wisconsin accent up until the point when they asked him to talk in Wisconsin accent. XD
As someone from Wisconsin, those accents were on point
Aaaayyyee, grew up in Appleton, WI. It's a great place to call home!
What I like about Willem so much, aside from being an amazing actor of course, is that he always seems to genuinely happy just to be wherever he is.
That pause before “that was me” 😂😂😂 perfection 🤌
GIVE HIM AN OSCAR ALREADY HIS BODY OF WORK IS OUTSTANDING.
Sir Willem Defoe. Much respects, humble constant funny and one of the best.
I watched every skit this week just for Willem, I love this actor.
Willem Dafoe is a legendary actor playing all the roles in films. He's genuis and he is now SNL first-time host. He did a really good job. Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏾👏🏾👏👏👏🏼👏🏼

All Wisconsin loves you dafoe!!!
I've been following his acting since "Boondock Saints", and I've never been disappointed. I can't wait for what he will show this year.
What a guy. A real legend.
WISCONSINITES where u at?
So proud of you Willem, we appreciate the shout-out!

He's a scary and horrifying actor, but he's a really nice and happy man
so honored to be able to say that i saw this in person
He is not the joker we deserve but he is the one we need right now.
Dafoe is a phenomenal actor and he seems like such a nice a guy
The deadpan expression on the Speed 2 joke was played perfectly. 3:01
HAHA! He was really hesitating saying yes probably because of the horrible reception with that movie.
One of the greatest actors!
I love Willem Dafoe! Very intense and serious actor. Loved him in Antichrist with Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Willem dafoe is a great actor 😊
One of my favorite actors and such a down to earth guy
Green Goblin was really the perfect role for him.
One of my favorite actors of all time.
Aww man, he seems so sweet and happy.
Everytime he says, "You know-" I can't help but just think about that one line.
Nice to see Mr. Appleton himself back on SNL.

That's how much good he is at acting...
That Appleton accent 😅 not everyone here in Wisconsin talks like that but still hilarious lol

We love you Willem Dafoe
From The Last Temptation of Christ to Spider-Man to The Florida Project, Dafoe is the greatest to ever do it. Love him.
Its a HUGE missed opportunity that there wasn't a Spider-man skit
The fact that he has never been cast for the joker is a literal crime against comics
I wouldn’t mind seeing as Joker in Pattison’s trilogy
It’s fine to see him smiling and relaxed!
willem mentioning the joker makes me want pattinson here for the batman
He looked so happy to be there
Glad to see Norman back again.

He's such an excellent actor. I have always enjoyed his strange and odd and good stuff.

The fact he voiced the Green Goblin in the 2002 Spider-Man game is amazing!
To be fair, his Joker would be epic.
