Hi, there is a game that was cancelled but hasen't had much coverege. It's called PAC-MAN Ghost Zone and it eventually became PAC-MAN World (PSX) but it would be better if you did just PAC-MAN Ghost Zone. One of the people who worked on the game tou can easily contact. Here's the link: instagram.com/luceyrick/?hl=en his website: www.drawrick.com/home.html
I'd love to see it as a ROM but I doubt it will happen. I'm sure that cart wasn't cheap and distributing the ROM would be a heavy hit to its value. Maybe if there was a group fundraiser to buy it or something... but that might attract unwanted attention.
Lies serafin, people crawl out of the woodwork to try and temporarily get their hands on carts for dumping, even going so far as to offer to come all the way out there to do it in person
tbh I wouldn't ever be able to share a beta/prototype version of a game because i'm dumb as an egg. i would be able to take screenshots though, but people always think everything is photoshopped these days.
the recent nintendo leak came with this version of mario kart prototype and is the same from this video! so is 100% real, is just amazing! there are more stuff to check in the leaked rom 👀

Agreed! With a number of 10 unused tracks, a huge pile of unsued graphics and karts, lots of early objects, and a very, very, very interesting and early prototype of the game, Mario Kart DS has the most Beta stuff of all Mario Kart games!
As someone who owns the authentic game on a real SNES and played it for many years, it is very interesting to see what the very first Mario Kart was like during its beta stage, especially the music. Thanks.
just wanted to drop on a random episode and sincerely thank you for making these for us viewers. I absolutely love every single one of them, and its always so interesting to learn more about games like this. I am in college studying digital media rn and have a passion for games, always have and always will. thanks man!
On this episode of Beta 64, we're going to learn all about the development of Super MarioKart. (Sunday afternoon with a pack of chocolate biscuits and a cuppa tea. I'm happy.)
Back then a release was final so you have to beta test as hard as you can before shipping, now is possible to download and install a patch to fix something on the game, I guess developers are some how spoiled because of this
Also when Nintendo finds glitches they tend to fix them like in Skyward Sword that a game breaking glitch had to be patched and Nintendo released a fix for that as soon as they could. They did decide to leave in glitches I think for the Legend of Zelda remake though since those glitches were fun to use. They seem to be targeting glitches that ruin rather than enhance gameplay so I personally like them a lot because of that.
In the early 2000's videogames were updated by just fixing the stuff on them and then putting those new patched versions on the store shelves as a replacement to the old versions, take for example the Grand Theft Auto games, Vice City got rereleased as some lines offended Cubans and Hatians so the new version removed any line that could offend them
Another notable thing at 16:26 is the original wasn't as saturated with destructible ice blocks. The player could find a route through it at full speeds on their first lap, but in the prototype this is impossible.
hey Andrew, i just wanna say thanks for the awesome content. the first video i've seen of yours was the Wind Waker one and i just want to say after roughly 3 and half years, your content has always been some of the best :D

the Beta Vanilla Lake theme sounds kinda like they were trying to go for a Pirate thing to me(just sounds Piratey in a few parts) lake, pirates, it would make sense, but it came off sounding too Sifi-ish, so they recomposed it. just my theory at least
I've seen one screenshot showing a blobby enemy from earlier plans for the game before they decided to go with Badniks instead. Lines up with when Sonic was gonna have a human girlfriend named "Madona" and Doctor Robotnik was dressed like a bumblebee.
I know I'm late to the party, but something interesting I have noticed is that in sonic lost world, an unused/cut enemy from sonic 2 was brought back, a snail badnik was supposed to appear in sonic 2, but in the end never made it, but that very same snail enemy made it in sonic lost world for Wii U.
Great new video. Very informative, and the prototype music is so catchy. Maybe I'm just a sucker for openness and freedom of information in the modern age, but I can't rationalize why previous owners didn't share all this info with us.
In some courses, like Mario Circuit 2, the AI racers can epic fail to the point where their race time will be displayed as OUT. So the OUT race time is indeed used in final versions.
I believe we're overdue for GREAT kart games aside from just Mario Kart (as much as I love it to death) in similar respects to the days of Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong's racing, and my all time personal favourite Crash Team Racing. Imagine if the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy did amazingly well financially, we could get Crash Team Racing remade as well ... along with a faithful Spyro Trilogy remake. That would be nice.
Z-Nitro Crash Nitro Kart was the bomb! Though it feels like MK8 copied a little, like with antigravity and different voices for some characters (Ex: Crash & Iggy Koopa).
Those unused songs are SO Soyo Oka omg. I'm a big fan of her work and this makes me very curious about the kind of work she put into her SNES music. For instance, I wonder whether these unused songs are early compositions. They bear a resemblance to the battle music and to Mario Circuit, but most of the other tracks in the game seem to use the soundfont in a different way... at least to my ears. Thanks for this video! Super Mario Kart is my favorite game and it's a pleasure to hear about its development. Funny to know that my RUclips icon would be different in the beta! ;)
