- In this video, I test out the OLD Nvidia Shield Portable from 2013. Does it still boot? Does it still play games? Well, I tested the Play Store, Retroarch, Native Android Gaming, and actually have some fun with it!
Here's a small mini HDMI adapter to hook this up to a TV

back in the day, i always wanted this thing.
This video is the exact answer to a thought I had a few days ago on how the shield looked today.
I always thought that the Shield portable was sick. It's cool to see someone messing with one over 10 years later.
Yeah, I passed on it years ago, and went the psp route. But this thing definitely has the best controls.
I bought one in 2014 and still play it today, Half Life 2 is my favorite game on it. I also play Sonic as well, some Final Fantasy too.
Would love to see a 2025 version released by Nvidia
Me too but I think nvidia sold the technology to Nintendo
Heck yeah it would be cool, I would buy one even though I already have this one today.
I've had my Shield Portable from day one. I've long since lost all the original charger and cable but the unit itself is in pristine condition.
You can stream from your PC to it.
The play store should've updated on yours because mine did and I still use my shield portable to this day. I can even use geforce now on it because the game streaming app should also update to support that because mine also updated the game streaming app.
Thanks for the tip. Turns out I forgot you had to actually search the “games” tab, not just the default search bar in the store, lol.
I recently bought this device last week but haven't tested it yet. How do you set up your micro sd card for this device. Internal or portable? What size micro sd card is best 128 or 256? Thanks
Just barely fixed the flex cable for the screen just now tried to update the nvidia games library but it seems they shutdown the servers so I cannot update…
Whenever I keep entering the play store I keep getting the server error message and keeps saying that no matter how much I press retry. Anyone got a solution to this?
have you tried side loading apps? I still have portal and a bunch of games on mine. I wonder if they would still work with the store gone. I also did load some emulators back in the day on it. I wonder if it would still run. The one thing I would say that's a complaint is it takes FOREVER to charge that thing. Was always one of my biggest complaints of the device.
I've been using mine but I recently upgraded to fiber 5gHz wifi and now it won't connect to my network. If you know an OS or app that would fix it, pls lmk 😔😔
I bought one at launch. Still have it. I used to stream my pc to it and emulate on it. So far ahead of its time. The d-pad sucks and the buttons are not great. Time has not been good to it either, it used to be very snappy but now it feels like android intentionally slows it down.
Good for old school emulation ps1 final burn etc etc some dreamcast
Can this thing run xbox cloud gaming?
I dug up my old one the other day and it took forever to charge but it got there, but i had massive lag just getting to the settings so i factory reset it and it killed itself 😂 its stuck on the splash screen
I bought it in gamestop in new york while i was on vacation in 2014ish and it was great for a while, had half life 2 on it and it ran really really well
Scratch that it just woke up after booting for half an hour wtf
I got an original PS Vita (the one with the OLED screen) a couple years ago. It's cool, but I find the speakers very tinny and disappointing compared with a modern smartphone.
How would you rate these speakers, compared to a good phone, or handled, or the Switch?
My friend, I have the PSvita, I have the Shield, I have the GPD WIN 1 and 2, BY FAR the Shield has the most impressive speakers on any handheld I've ever experienced, to this very day, the Shield still has the best speakers. They have great bass. You can literally feel them thump when you shoot. The portal gun in portal sounds so fkn good. I had to boot up my Shield when I found it yesterday, and the controller is the best on any handheld.
Omg are the emulators on it already or do I need to find them? Thinking about getting one
Find them
Can't believe you didn't try dreamcast I would say some of the games will run flawlessly..try them immediately hahaaa
How much were you able to pick it up for?
I think I paid $50 if I remember right.
it supports android 11
play 2023, 2024 games if you want to test does it STILL hold up
Metal gear rising?
