- I bought this custom Xbox from eBay for about $400... and it's interesting! I think it looks really cool and has some nice features, but it's not quite all the way there... but to be fair, this was just a random used console that someone was selling off - it's not a console that was customized just for me. Thoughts on this console? I got it from eBay a while back - looks like it was someone’s old Xbox that weren’t using anymore
My thoughts are you should fix it so it runs properly and then sell it so somebody can for once get a working one off console. Seems every time you buy one it's somehow broken or can't function properly.
Buggy as hell for $400
XBMC is an older but usable dashboard, was originally the people behind the KODI media center (X Box Media Center) and there are quite a few modern dash boards that built from this. If you are interested in the Hard/Softmod side let me know.
The fact you called a mechanical drive an SSD kinda threw me, just felt like you had no idea what you were talking about.
You either found this in a dumpster or borrowed it from a friends garage, theres no way you paid $400 for that piece of junk.
Theres hundreds of decent modded and custom original xbox's on ebay for less than half that amount.

Whoever did the work on this console knows the hardware well, but could have given the full package with a more updated XBMC w/ Custom theme. Looks well worth the $ to me.
I’m definitely gonna look more into how I can customize this console some more on the software side 👍 I wanna keep this console. Maybe I’ll make a future video on what i do to it
I'm gonna guess it was a personal project for the original owner, he stopped playing it for a while, then found it and decided to sell it on Ebay.

It was probably up to date when they built it.
On pretty much all og xbox modded dashboards both triggers plus black and back returns you to the dashboard, also there is a possibility this xbox has what's known as a tsop flash, or basically a modchip without the modchip, what a modchip is is just a chip that the xbox reads instead of the bios chip so you can run a custom bios, however you can flash the stock bios chip by soldering a couple points on the board to remove the write protection.
Has to be tsop or modchip or the ssd wouldn't work
@@davidvickers8425 nope, you can 100% use an ssd on a stock bios Xbox, you just have relock the ssd to the motherboard

The console looks pretty cool as hell but I think the person who you bought it from should of soldered in an HDMI port instead of leaving the A/V port.

XBMC on the original Xbox console was my go to media player before I upgraded to a dedicated HTPC for HD playback. Still love it to this day. Should be a default dashboard installed somewhere on the HDD. Thus allowing you to boot into it and play the installed Xbox games om the HDD without having to run them through XBMC.
Hands-down, one of the coolest looking original Xbox mods..

I would certainly check if the CPU was changed. There have been 1,4 Ghz Pentium III in Modded OG Xboxes
you can use a Celeron on these with the correct conversion board. its a very specific model of celeron tho
@@nevadaxelizabeth I remember there was at least one commerical business that I am aware of that made a modified juiced up classic Xbox in the PAL region with Pentium 3 700 or 800 irc.
But for the hell of it can't remember their name...

I really like the cosmetics done to that Xbox, even with the pain cracks on the bottom I would have that out on the entertainment center. I thought Nickelodeon vibes and then i saw that you had Nickelodeon on your background screen 😂
For the disc tray I would run a battery directly to the motor what opens the drive and see if that works.
I would also check if the clock cap is removed. When you power it on, set the time, unplug and press the power button then switch back on. If it asks you to set the clock again then its removed
Plugging in the power cable would be a better solution, you can clearly see it's half plugged in

my friend back in the day modified his original xbox to play xbox games AS WELL as gamecube and ps2 games. It was freaking awesome. The man was a genius
The problem is that the original Xbox came with a Thompson drive. In 2003 to 2005 they came with Samsung drives. Or philips drives.
This original Xbox may actually still be hard modded if you look at the underside of the motherboard, as I myself possess a hardmodded Xbox 1.0 similar to this one and it contains an "Enigmah", 29 wire, mod chip that is mounted on the underside of the board, which you cannot see without taking it out of the case.

your right but as far as getting it to run games better 128mb ram is what it needs i got 2 that are chipped and ram upgraded i love them play um daily
I'm looking for a o.g xbox that is modded. I dont reallyneed one with 150k games on it. Mainly wanting og xbox/360/ps1/2. If I could get Saturn and dreamcast that woukd be a nice plus. Anyone got a clue where I could find one? Or from a trusted source? I don't know how to do any of this stuff myself so I'd like to just flat out buy one ready and all the work done. Is that even possible ?

Had the same issue with the drive not opening. Had to replace the belt.
Now this is how you do a modded custom console!
You gotta swap out that disc drives belt mine was stuck until I put a new belt in and a small amount of white lithium grease

5:53 I think the disc drive was a common xbox problem, I remember 2 different ones doing it to me as a kid and I'd have to manually get the drive open for most things, but if you pressed the button while it was open it'd close itself back up, so idk what the issue was

This is a sweet console! Only thing I can think to try is you could clone the HDD to a ssd and maybe that could possibly help with some of the freezing? Most spinner drives last about a good 5 years and then start to degrade. It was hard to read but I think this one said DOM: 2016 so thats way old for a hdd. I know it wont fix it 100% but there cheap now days lol. Love the vids man!
You can get back to the Home Screen by hitting start back black white and the triggers at the same time.

note dvd2xbox is how u rip the og xbox discs onto the internal hardware for the console to run the game without the disc its hard to explain but ye

Normally Takedown works 100% fine when ripped from the Disc to the SSD/HDD.
since this seems to have been done some time ago, it is likely using the old "Xbox HDD Ready" games which are notorious for simply not working a lot of the time. nowadays we use CERBIOS and redumped games and they all work fine without any issues
beautiful xbox! inspires me to fix my moded 360 elite with acrylic side panels and leds.
Maybe a hdd problem for not Reading the internal games or a buged software.
@ZeroK00L but i have one moded with excuter and even emulation of ps1 games like gt 2 or mgs1 run at stable 30 fps. But in this video all of the roms seem to have problems. Mine never said no to roms even if they were not fully suported.
A similar thing happened to me with a ps3 super slim. Wasn't reading disc, and I ordered a replacement laser, and when I opened it up, the cable wasn't attached. It worked.

this really took me back, i used XBMC with this skin for many years and then switched to the 720P VERSION when i got the components cable. mind that a lot of softmods and chips (hard mods) have a key combo to "softreboot" essentially reloading the dashboard. so you dont need to manually reset the console.
this was definitely someones dearly console. cant believe someone went to sold something like this., i hope the owner is still around and not the console being sold because they died or something.
i think i know why burnout 3 froze on the loading screen, on the XBMC menu check with Y if theres cheats loaded, XMBC has a built-in lite version of Xored Cheat loader, but given how much memory XBMC already consumes, sometimes loading cheats from XBMC could cause games to froze.

idk why but Burnout 3 specifically has issues booting from an HDD/SSD, I remember having that same issue when I softmodded my xbox and I ended up having to do some kind of workaround to get it to work.
Seeing those holes punched in the stickers triggers me.
Doing all those mods and not lifting the edge of the stickers to open it 😢
Lol ikr. Not a huge deal since it’s on the bottom, but it’s really not that hard to take a heat gun to the sticker for 15 seconds and then peeling it up
"Jacob" my man....your console check videos save me tons of money when it comes to me buying new next Gen consoles...last august I brought a PS5 off eBay...I did my research....I lucked up because you taught me what to look for in buying slightly used to brand new consoles. I look for when the system was made. I look for.any imperfections like scratches, insects, any scribbled off serial numbers, & for the infamous Cheeto fingers prints within the joysticks creases. Most importantly, I inspect to see if it will power up, load a game, & watch out for game loading percentages. If all in working manner...I'm happy.....thank you again "Jacob"......

No they didn’t paint none of the ghost case because the ghost case only comes with the top and bottom clear shell. The seller only used the top and kept the original black bottom but made it orange.

Yeah , I have a couple of blue ones from an old computer build , but didn't want to use them in my softmoded xbox . I have no idea if they are 40 wire or 80 wire so I just bought a flat 80 wire to be sure .

@@realprincegino Yes , the IDE cable has the blue connector and the other wires are custom power wires for the hard drive and they have connected the LED power from them . The original wires are not that thick , not that long and they are usually tucked in neatly along the side .

The original Xbox was a powerful beast.
Need to check the save game data and see how many games are saved on it. I had over 600 I deleted to free up the drive. Most were corrupt saves. Amatures hot swap or clone the drives with corrupt save game data.
I got my of Xbox on Christmas Day and I had the same problem 2:52 but we fixed it with a Bobby pin.
Whoever let the console know it was 2022 is wild! I've been scared to tell mine it's not 2007 anymore 😂
Also it’s the clear disk case the magnet is to strong once I put a game in it will open and close normally I had to put some clear tape to weaken the magnet 🧲 of the disk cover
It could be TSOP flashed or softmodded. The custom dash is very outdated on there, would be best to update it to the latest XBMC4Xbox, or replace it with something else like XBMC4Gamers.
The CD Magnet is bent down thus preventing the CD from Ejecting. I encounter this all the time when coming to the Ghost Case design. You try to bend the arch that is holding the CD magnet a little, but you need to watch it because you can bend it out too far.

@@southpineshooligan When you put the cover back on sometimes that's when you find out it's bent. Now this isn't always but it's just my experience with Ghost Cases and the optical drive mod.

A 1TB 2.5" sata hard drive (not an ssd) and you need about 2TB for the North American library unless you plan to run cerbios and compress your games.

I got both a original Xbox when I was a kid and a PS3 slim as a teenager for free all because the plug for the disk tray was slightly unplugged. My brother helped me figure out and fix the problem with the original Xbox when I was a kid and sure enough it came in handy years later when I found a person throwing away a PS3 because of the same issue. 🙏
Burnout 3 needs to some file names modified to work. I suspect the builder of this didn’t use the “hdd fix” version of the game

interesting old softmod xbox but a would recommend to update it to a cheap hardmod a cheap chip should do the trick update the custom dashboard to a new more updated one as for the internet is useful for ftp to the xbox to add game and stuff
