Hello Ed great choices he touched me Grammy winner and you could have put the golden records series because most of the songs had not been on an album yet TCB.
How about Moody Blue, the 24th and final studio album? It's really half an album, right? It seems cobbled together. But 'Moody Blue' is such an incredible track it beckons a re-examination. The first three tracks on Side One are his last three recordings. For an artist that put so much down on tape, this fact alone elevates the work to a special place. He is playing the piano on 'Unchained Melody'; dusting off the first of two Olivia Newton-John hits from 1973-74; and clowning with the audience riffing The Diamond's, 'Little Darlin', recorded by the Canadian quartet all the way back in 1957. Side Two starts with a commercial single. 'Way Down' that lacks the drive of 'Promised Land' (1974). Yet, in the delivery Elvis bests the musicians. The next track puts the theme of the album in perspective. The original was released just after (The Late Great) Johnny Ace committed suicide in 1954. This is another Elvis album unapologetically aimed at matters of the heart. I put 'Moody Blue' in context. We are in the summer of '77. The Disco Explosion is on. Donna Summer released 'I Feel Love' in July. 'Moody Blue' skips along like a flat rock hurled at a lake on a sunny, sleepy afternoon. It speaks honestly of the twists and turns of a love affair. Elvis is mixing rock, rhythm, country, and blues on the same album and getting away with it. 'She Thinks I Still Care' holds its own. It's George Jones singing to Tammy Wynette (1962); Elvis singing to Priscilla. Hard core. The closer is all Elvis. He ends the album by closing the loop with a show tune from Lloyd-Webber & Rice. We are hurled back to the first track. He will sit at the piano again and accompany himself on the vocally challenging Everly Brother's monster hit from 1965. Fourteen years later, in 1990, when the producers of the movie 'Ghost' went searching for a song to capture the sense of a great loss they went to the same source. The movie had the 3rd all-time grossing box office at the time of its release. That is where Elvis was driving on his 24th album, capturing the sense of a great loss. 'Moody Blue' the album is forever complicated and intertwined with the passing of the greatest American entertainer of all time. But at its core it is a strong, consistent effort on a topic that touches everyone deeply. It is all the more remarkable for having been made and released at lowest point of the artist's life.

Hi Ed! Thank you for publishing interesting videos regarding Elvis! I just wrote a blog as an answer to this video. My 10 favorite studio LP’s by Elvis. I just published part 1. Hope you’ll read it and see if we agree? You’re welcomed to share it!
@@TheKingsCourt1972 will a original elvis record say RCA Victor on the right hand corner of the cover? And will say RCA Victor on the record itself with nipper the dog above it?
Hi Ed, Greetings from Perth, Western Australia. I really enjoy your videos. I have been an Elvis fan since my earliest memories. I have a question and I guess looking for your Elvis advice. I notice that you are not keen on the Speakers Corner releases of Elvis albums but you really seem to enjoy the Friday Music pressings instead. I want to start buying newer pressings of records to add to my collection as some of my originals are a bit scratchy and sometimes difficult to listen to (Ebay sellers are not always honest with their grading). I have read that Speakers Corner releases are 100% analogue so I thought would surely be as close to sounding like the original pressings - they certainly look original. I have also read that Friday Music pressings are simply copied from CD, if this is true, would they sound any different to the Elvis albums I have on CD? I particularly like the look of your ELVIS PRESLEY (his first album from 1956) as it looks the closest to the original '56 cover I have seen - it looks identical on your video - plus I'm not sure what to make of coloured vinyl (in general) but that blue vinyl does look great mate. I notice Friday music does also do Loving you and King Creole - i have the 1980s fake stereo releases I bought as a child and dont like that fake sound (even though I love the songs themselves) - I can't tell you how many times I have bought originals (from Ebay) of these two albums and always were listed as excellent or NM and sadly they are too scratched to enjoy listening to. I would really appreciate your thoughts on Speakers Corner, Friday music, or just general advice on how to fix my collection - I'd like to find a sound that is as close to the original pressings (when they were new) as possible. Your thoughts would be most appreciated. Cheers mate, Vak.
Friday music may be digitally sourced, but they all sounded great to me. Problem now is they are mostly out of print. If you like Speakers Corner then go with them. I had a bad experience when I bought from them my first time and it turned out to be my last time. Go with what you like. Mostly all new vinyl is digitally sourced unless noted otherwise…and even then, there’s still digital steps added, so…
@@TheKingsCourt1972 I just got so disheartened as I bought original pressings of King Creole and Loving You, four times each now and they click and crackle all the way through - totally ruins the listening experience! There is a huge online company here in Australia called Sanity (they used to have actual shops to go in and look at everything but closed all the actual shops last year so only online now) that still do the Friday Music pressings in “Back order 15 to 30 days”! If they are good enough for you, they will certainly be good enough for me… by the way, lovely dogs!! All the best mate, Vak…
hi! great vid ... sorry for my ignorance .... but could you tell me wich LABEL this records are pessed ? Great picks. It’s hard to keep the top 10 LP’s consistent as there’s soooo many great LP’s.
Mostly all new vinyl is digitally sourced unless noted otherwise…and even then, there’s still digital steps added, so…
Go with original pressings if possible. They are always your best bet for original mixes/mastering.
@@TheKingsCourt1972 Thanks Ed! 👍I really appreciate your answer. Please keep up the great videos!

What if you could only take one album with you on a desert island…what would it be? No comps allowed
Tough choice…don’t know
Why not the most weak albums like Girl Happy, Double Trouble, ?? Without the bonus songs of course. There are bonus songs of high quality.
John Lennon never watched marilyn monroe???
