I just saw the movie and it was SO sick!!!! Austin Butler should deserve an Oscar for his role as Elvis. Before the end credits, they showed footage of the REAL Elvis Presley and it was pure nostalgia!!!!! I highly recommend this movie!
Just saw the movie an hour ago. Immediate thoughts were, he could’ve been so much more in life but was held down and fed lies and pills. Truly an American legend that never had the opportunity to be more than what he wished for. He paved the way for stage presence and celebrity persona.
Theres more behind it. He had legit problems like autoimmune disorders so he took a lot of pain pills. He might have died early even if no pills and drugs.
Yes! I felt like the film barely scratched the surface and I just want to know more. The hardest part to watch was Las Vegas and how heavily he was manipulated by Parker to stay there. It seemed that Elvis felt an enormous amount of loyalty to him and really saw him as a father since his own father was somewhat unstable and distant. I really wish Elvis could have seen the world like he wanted. What an incredible person and this film honors him greatly. R.I.P. Elvis 🙏🕊
How could he have been any more than he was? If you lived during his time you’d know he was everything …There was no one bigger and there still isn’t. His time was very different than now. A simpler time. A much more wonderful time and believe it or not, he had it all.
@@cleocatra9324 Prescription drugs were more potent in those days with a lot more side effects. It was not unusual to get hooked. Elvis could have slowed down, but that wasn’t his nature. Even without the pills, the stress probably would have killed him anyway.
I really hope Austin Butler wins an Oscar for this role. He did a top notch job as Elvis. He definitely deserves an Oscar. It would be a great tribute to Elvis too.
He won't. The Academy is skewed and basically paid off; it's completely unfair. Plus, Butler is a newcomer, so even if it was an amazing performance, I highly doubt he would win despite the fact that (Austin) is absolutely INCREDIBLE.
The movie absolutely did NOT portray Elvis and Priscilla as "roughly" the same age. They didn't mention their ages when they first introduced her. But in the scene where Priscilla left him, he literally said "when I'm 50 and you're 40 we'll be back together"
This movie was a feast for the eyes and a roller coaster. You can so clearly tell that Austin Butler poured his whole heart and soul into the part. I was moved to tears when his mother died and he clung to her clothing, saying "I want to stay here forever." 😩
Fun fact: When Tom Hanks talked to Priscilla about Colonel Parker in preparation for the role, she actually had mostly positive things to say about him. According to her he was extremely greedy but still a likeable guy. She even went to his funeral when he died in 97 and held a euology that mostly praised him but also joked about him being a con man who would probably find a way to screw the funeral guests out of money even after his death lol.
This movie is absolutely outstanding, Austin really did Elvis justice with how he played him. I’m a huge fan of Elvis Presley as well. This movie was absolutely phenomenal 🥹🥹
Ya it is absolutely beautiful and love his music all over again, at the end I couldn't even tell it was Austin or Elvis himself anymore, he became Elvis . . . 😎💙
@@maryjaneneels5536 That surprises me! Elvis seemed to have much longer legs. I was 12-13 when Elvis had his first big hit, Hound Dog. I wanted to go see him in person, but Mom & Dad said a firm no. 😢
Very interesting observation. Elvis was and always will be the King, even though he didn’t like that title he truly earned it. A lifetime fan, Barbara ❤️🔥
I agree wholeheartedly with Tom Hanks’s assessment of Tom Parker. Elvis could have been even bigger had he toured Britain, Japan and other cities in Europe.
As a younger person(Black person) who was, as most Americans born before the year 2000, familiar with Elvis I must say there was always the "Elvis stole Black Music" aura about him so I never truly understood his presence After watching this movie and seeing how much of it was fact I’ve come to the conclusion that he really was just extremely and deeply influenced by our culture and perhaps couldn’t have been any other way. That coupled with the tragic realization that he was literally slaved to death as an entertainer gave me a new perspective of The Man
@@patbenz4327 Well sort of lol. I get your perspective. Eminem grew up with and basically lived a life similar to lots of lower/middle class blacks so it only makes sense that he’s who he is. Elvis was a spectator that was heavily influenced by culture.
JB this movie gave me a different perspective of black music, I absolutely love blues, Jazz even more now, and see its influence in modern chart music even more so....
I loved the movie. There were times I swear he WAS Elvis. My mom was a HUGE Elvis fan. As a young woman, she took a train from Idaho to Oregon to see him play. Didn't have a lot of money, so she sat in nosebleed seats and was sad because everyone was screaming so loud, she could barely hear him sing. Got on the train heading home, and pretty soon -- wait, did I mention my mom was gorgeous? -- well, pretty soon, here comes the Colonel. Turns out, Elvis was on the train and had spotted her. He sent the Colonel to invite her back to his car. They spoke and Elvis signed a dollar bill for her. He actually invited her to join him in California, but my mama was a really good girl, knew what that sort of invite meant, and politely declined. 🥰
@@Duane13Beavers I thought the same thing. Really. But I'm telling you, just like Jim Carrey looks nothing like Andy Kaufman, there are moments where he just channels Elvis.
@@kaseycotton8860 I know, right? My mom was pretty amazing. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been that smart. I'd have been calling her crying and stranded in Los Angeles. 😂
Austin Butler was SPOT ON. with his dance moves at the same time in the same songs as Elvis. with the way he even walked on stage then took 2 steps backward and smiled, the way he knelt with his foot flat on the floor, the way he shook at exact way and times Elvis did. crazy good. my sister saw him in Atlanta in 1976. I wanted to go but she told me "next time". there was no next time. my kids know how much I've always loved Elvis. an Oscar awaits him. if not, something is wrong in the world.
Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley loved the movie and spoke very highly of it. That’s enough for me. I believe this movie cheered Lisa Marie up after the unfortunate death of her son. Cannot wait to see the movie in theaters 💜
@@sonnestt they did put that in there. But Priscilla never claims Elvis groomed her because that wasn’t the case. You have to realize that this sort of age gap was the norm back then. You cannot call almost every innocent 1950s relationship “grooming,” that’s ignorance. Elvis and Priscilla did this 60 years ago! Society has changed and evolved since. Today though, this is unacceptable, so it would be disgusting if it were to happen today. You cannot cancel a dead man and compare him to today’s standards. That’s pathetic.
@@karenaandreasen7029 thank you 🙏 and yea, my great grandmother gave birth to her first child at 14 years old, then had 7 more children lol. There was a lot of this sort of relationship in my Mexican side of my family, so I’m thinking it was especially common with that community back in the day too.
@@zachhiggins3321 It's almost unfathomable that a rock star would care so much about pleasing people, considering how some of the rock stars today are spoiled by those around them.
I couldn't believe how good Austin Butler was in this movie, there were times when I had to wonder if it was footage of Elvis or him, that's how good he was. Top effort Baz, fantastic, I'm going to see again for sure.
He did a fantastic job! Watched it last night and he really did look like Elvis! Also, I read when he portrayed Elvis in the early years, he did the singing himself.
I'm never going to be an Elvis fan, that's like a religious commitment, my wife's stepdad has so much elvis shit in house it's unreal, an apparent lock of hair, every album on cd & vinyl, singing ornaments, a phone, elvis bedding.. this is a 49 year old man in 2022 mind, not a lovestruck teenage girl in 1974.. So yeah, won't be a fan but he has some really good tunes

I saw him in mid 70's. I just went to say I'd seen him. But, WOW! He was such an entertainer. He seemed to want everyone to enjoy the show. I was a HUGE fan after that!
Elvis really worried about his fans forgetting about him, he had no idea how much he was/is loved. This movie will help keep him in the spotlight. 🎹♥️🎤🎸🎼
The movie was great and Austin Butler should get The academy award. He was wonderful. Elvis Loved his fans, We could feel it. He truly appreciated us and We will always love him.
Elvis def got into a ‘rut’ and out lived the Las Vegas residency… He obv loved Graceland so much he must have relaxed there instead of travelling for pleasure and having a more normal private life. But he knew how people loved him by the success of Las Vegas and the come back specials he did. He must have found it hard to find ‘balance’ in his life - and possibly ‘new’ direction looking beyond the Las Vegas gig. I thought it was a brilliant venue for him initially, as he was such a huge Star internationally, bringing people to HIM, saving him the instability of touring was inspired.mAt the time, Tom Jones and every major performer was pictured visiting Elvis and Las Vegas. Unfortunately, for the results of his performance and what he did for promoting Las Vegas as well, he would have been under rewarded. Since then, a Las Vegas residency has been standard stability for the World’s biggest names - Celine Dion etc etc. He def stayed at the Las Vegas gig too long. If Parker, as suspected, couldn’t travel, and this emerged from his own strategy, the only tragedy is him undercutting the Star. Elvis would UNDOUBTEDLY have been a Star, his talent and looks and style were his alone, and any other manager would have brought him to public attention. But Elvis’s story is a WONDERFUL EXAMPLE of always MANAGING UOUR OWN MONEY - no one is immune. Vernon was no financial manager, which was helpful for Parker, and Elvis was focused on his performing and tbh, he wrote amazing songs which will live forever… While he trusted and surpassed Parker in managing his career choices, he had the space to create. Priscilla has done the most amazing job of managing his memory and legacy and proven to be the best financial manager - gr8 choice Elvis 👏👏❤️❤️
I could see how he would be. Shortly after he got back, qfter not being around for 2 years, the Beatles took over, and all the girls were then fawning over them.
As a lifetime Elvis fan, I had been anticipating the release of this movie, and I was not disappointed! It was PHENOMENAL! I found myself lured into this incredible production. Austin Butler plays the role of a lifetime and nailed it! Throughout the movie you forget that that Tom Hanks and Austin Butler are playing roles. All you see is Col. Tom Parker and Elvis! A must see!
@@rams_r_champs I also loved loved loved him in Green Mile. It was one of my favorite movies, but very hard to watch. If you live Hanks and haven't seen it I highly recommend it. Just be forewarned, it's long and the first 30 minutes or so are very slow. But when it picks up it doesn't let up. It's Sci fi, but beautiful and so so sad.
If Raimi Malek earned an Oscar for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and if as well-Jamie Foxx earned an Oscar for playing Ray Charles, then Austin Butler should damn well be more than worthy to deserve and win an Oscar by 100% means necessary.
the fact he stuck up for employee being fired who he knew his wife had cancer shows what a gorgeous caring empathetic person Elvis was. I saw the movie today and it was just so sad how he was managed as a cash cow.
He was a pedo and cheated on is wife all the time 😂 she even admitted he cheated on her a lot, literally met her when she was 14, it’s disgusting you ppl think this is ok
There’ll only ever be one ELVIS but Austin Butler was amazing and certainly deserves an Oscar. He was absolutely outstanding . As for the movie I could watch it over and over again.
I don’t care what they got wrong. The movie was a part of Elvis I’ve never seen. It brought me back to my teen days, so much so my heart aches for Elvis all over again…
I can’t really relate to Elvis and have not seen much of his recordings. So I didn’t even realize that was authentic till I was watching it and realized that it was so sad. A picture of a man trying to hold on…
The film did not make them seem like the same age. They didn’t outright mention that she was 14 when they met but later on in the film, they say “you’ll be 50 when I’m 40.” I’m pretty sure the film glazed over their age difference when they met because it would make modern audiences really uncomfortable.
It’s the same as everything else, it was of it’s time and not so shocking then, today it would not be acceptable but then the fact she was 14 would not be as shocking
And plus they didn't really date until 1963. They met and hung out for several weeks when in Germany from time to time with his buddies etc when she was almost 15 in 1960, but didn't see each other again until like 63.
@@lar-zd9rs it sucks he died that young from crashing and burning. He could have gone on for years to come. Some of my favorite songs were later in his career like Suspicious Minds and Burning Love.
4 times? Godamn, I love Elvis and pretty much grew up with his music and rockabilly. But I've seen it so far twice and after movie I just feel like sh*t and cry my ass off when "the final concert" starts playing.
I cried so many times in the theater but I came out learning more about Elvis than I thought possible. The film was kind of strange but I grew more respect and love for the king of rock n roll and his songs.
when priscilla said to him on the stairs "i have to go if i don't i never will" hardest thing she had to do after she walked out that door to see him sat there was heart wrenching
Literally saw this movie an hour ago. Omg what a performance by Butler, definitely an Oscar nod for me. Elvis was before my time and I didn’t really know much of him besides some classic hits but now I totally understand why he’s beloved by so many. My respect for him just went through the roof. Great film.
Just saw the movie myself. I'm in my mid 20's and have always been an avid Elvis fan and never fully realised the extent of the political drama behind the man himself.
We just saw the movie and it was fantastic! A lot of people said that Austin Butler does not look like Elvis but boy he did in the movie. His moves his singing all of it was totally Elvis! I recommend this movie to everybody who loved him. And everybody who still does. And I am one of those people!😢❤️
It’s not that they deny that they’re ten years apart. Yes…They do emphasize that they’re ten years apart. However, when they first MEET… Priscilla is intentionally portrayed as older than fourteen.
While they did mention the age difference later in the film I suspect they didn't bring up how young she was when they met because that is considered unacceptable in 2022. Some people would call him a pedophile.
Plus, when they first introduce Priscilla, Parker says that Elvis had "fallen for Beaulieu's teenage daughter" or something like that. I don't think it's something the movie got wrong, but it is something that it downplayed.
I've never been a big Elvis fan, but I saw this movie with my wife and was blown away! Austin Butler absolutely killed it. Baz Luhrmann's eye for spectacle really conveyed the spectacle that an Elvis live show must have had.
Took my grandma to see it who is in mid stages of dementia, I cried at the opening and ending like a child and my grandmother being she loved elvis has been to graceland 10+ times her business partner even restored the car elvis was last pictured in ...she loved it and it was a experience she would have loved to seen with my papa ❤️ Elvis is king 🤴 Long live Elvis ❤️
Actually at the end of the movie Elvis says “we’ll get back together when you’re 40 and I’m 50” so they did acknowledge the right age difference just later in the movie
@@saigonrider yeah because it was way more acceptable for that age difference back then so they kind of brushed it off as to not make modern audiences uncomfortable, but it is mentioned several times
@@saigonrider that's because Priscilla looked about 18 if you look at her pictures from 1960, and back then people thought she was older, and acted older as her she was told to before meeting Elvis, because Elvis wouldn't notice her is she acts young. Plus Elvis didn't really start dating Priscilla until 63.
The film has a fairytale quality which, to me, required an embellishing of the story. The carnival scene, the hall of mirrors, the concert scenes - I think we understood they had an element of fantasy but they created a magical feeling to the fairytale.
I don’t think the concert scenes were embellished. Have you Seen the footage of Elvis in his early days, including those of him performing at county fairs? Elvis was doing Michael Jackson moves long before Michael Jackson was even born. So really, MJ did Elvis moves. Or footage of Elvis’ Las Vegas shows? Elvis was one of those rare (at least rare these days) performers who could hold an audience with only his own presence on a stage. If you’ve not seen it yet, watch his performance at the end of his `68 special, when he he sings ‘I Can Dream.’ It’s just Elvis al by his lonesome yet the performance is moving and so compelling.
Indeed. There are symbolic and metaphorical elements in those scenes mentioned to have never happened in real life. The production as a whole would be a whole lot poorer without those elements. I think Luhrman did a great job of marrying reality (like the realistic live portrayals mentioned by the other poster) with the fantastical/fairytale aspects to produce a widescreen feast. I don't think it was a perfect movie at all but I get what Luhrman was doing, and besides, he did stay true to the fundamentals of the real Elvis's factual history.
But Butler didn't show the playful side of Elvis on stage and even on the Ed Sullivan show. Elvis made cute faces and said funny things during his shows. Butler did none of that. Disappointing really.
No one could hold a candle to Elvis. He was like no other-he had it all! Austin Butler was quite talented with his impersonation of The King of Rock ‘n Roll
@@jayegardner3489 He did a little bit during Polk Salad Annie and a few others. And remember - Austin Butler didn't write the story and script, and he wasn't the director either. He was an actor doing his job, and had very little say, relatively speaking, in other parts of making the movie.
Yes - I was totally okay with Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis - then the end of the movie with the real Elvis - then I was in tears and so profoundly emotional … very well done ! I don’t look for any faults or perfection .. because we all make mistakes .. even some we regret . But , thank God for mercy !
My husband and I saw ELVIS this afternoon. We both LOVED the movie. I was mesmerized by Austin Butler’s portrayal. Tom Hanks was amazing; as you almost didn’t think of Tom during the movie.
One of the best movies of the year! Austin wasn’t Austin Butler as Elvis he WAS Elvis - you can tell he got lost in the role and I loved how Baz directed it. He’s a genius as usual 🤍⚡️
Tom hanks even could see he was getting too much into his character off the set. I read he gave him some advice of to read a book that has nothing to do with the role and to escape for a least 30 mins a day.
Well said, so true. I don't un derstand any of the criticisms I'm hearing. I wonder if jealousy is a factor. Some people just can't seem to accept others success
If the oscar’s weren’t bias and almost rigged, Austin deserves to win with how much energy and compassion he put into this role. He spent years of his life being dedicated entirely to his role. I really hope he gets an Oscar nomination and wins it.
Even though it is biased and the outcomes maybe/probably predetermined wouldn’t change whether he deserves be be nominated and to win. His seemed to be a very good performance.
There’s unfortunately a lot of inaccuracies with this movie but like Bohemian Rapsody it opens the conversation of what actually happened and gives the younger audiences a face to associate with someone so far away from our generation
@@JackSmith-jw3jw oh 10000% Nothing againist Rami Malack or the guy who played Elton John but Austin Butler truly embodied the role of Elvis and what genuinely shocked me the most is that I exactly what Elvis looked like before I saw the movie but at the end of the movie when they played real footage I literally went “Oh yeah he looks like that and not Austin Butler” 10/10 movie
@@Aviator-Chicken Austin B only sang in beginning, early E. , E. voice matured by th Vegas years Rami did all the singing, in th movie Bohem. Rhapsody.
This movie really exceeded expectations. I thought it would be impossible to make a good Elvis Biopic because he is simply one of those icons who are way too larger than life to have a biopic that would do Justice. At first I never really took Austin Butler seriously as the King, but as the movie washes you over, you do get convinced that he is him. He really captured his dance moves and charisma. One thing I liked a lot is how they used his songs to help create the narrative. I mean in Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek had to perform Queen songs, just because they are Queen songs. But here, the music, the lyrics, really helped us understand the emotion and what was really going through Elvis' mind at a particular point in his life. Like when he was all alone in a hotel, singing are you lonesome tonight, you really know where he was at that time, literally and metaphorically.
Me and one of my best friends saw this the other day! We got the early access showing. It was kinda weird but yet still great, not just cuz you learn new things about Elvis himself but the fact Austin Butler was AMAZING AS THE KING 👏👏 I think the ferris wheel scene was added to symbolize that Elvis was tricked and tempted by the manager. As in sold his soul to the devil
Which after Elvis died, it came out that in fact he did sell his soul to the devil & the devil was Tom Parker. He drove Elvis like a money making machine & he got so big so fast he turned to the drugs to cope w the fast paced, demanding lifestyle, which eventually led to his death
I’ve been a fan of Austin Butler’s since Aliens in the Attic and it’s amazing to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves ❤ and I agree 100% with what Lisa Marie said about him being a frontrunner for the Academy Award for Best Actor
@@samanthayoung4544 I haven’t seen that but I just watched the Elvis movie today. I don’t think anything can beat it, it’s that incredible. I may be a bit biased though since Elvis is my favourite singer ever.
What I have read from the naysayer negative critiques makes me laugh. The real people have spoken with this movie. It is brilliant and not overly 'Bazzed" embelished either.
Austin deserves an award for his amazing portrayal of Elvis! I LOVED how Baz depicted the significance of Elvis's early influences, soooo significant. THIS movie is a KEEPER that I will purchase when available. A poignant and thoughtful tribute to one of the greatest gifts the world of music was ever given...ELVIS. I was born 13 days after Elvis died, but can’t remember a time where his music wasn’t a part of my life. My Mother always played his records. When I began collecting music for myself Elvis was one of the artists included. Music has always played a prominent role in my life and it brings me such happiness. I’m a fan of every genre except Opera Music. My collection has everything from Bluegrass to Death Metal and the last time I checked I had just over 17,000 purchased songs on my iTunes account….And that includes everything available from Mr. Elvis Presley…..He was a star and The Greatest Performer of his time. Nobody even came close to having the stage presence he had…..If you watch his live performances you can see just how much he loved the music and how it just overtook him completely. He was definitely one of a kind.
Parker’s management was a huge contribution to Elvis spiral into drugs and overeating. He wanted to see more of the world and connect with more audiences, instead he was stuck in Vegas doing multiple shows a night.
@Paul Gwyn after losing his mom, who was his backbone in life and his dad being in and out plus, his dad being a simple country man. Elvis THOUGHT that swine had his best interest at heart similar to his momma having. You dont have to watch this 2022 movie to know that. Read some books, look at old interviews. Also, although Elvis was on top here in america in most hearts he was still public enemy #1 to most politicians. So it wasnt like he had many options on gaining an attorney that would help him understand all the legal lingo. Elvis was taken for a ride and I'm 35 and KNOW that. Just saw the 2022 movie yesterday on hbo. I steered clear of seeing it in theaters because I thought for sure that nobody could nail Elvis, that it would be another vegas sideshow movie. I'm proud of Butler and was wrong.
Just because it's in the film doesn't mean it's true. Yes Elvis was probably taken advantage of but he did have a say. Perhaps his mind was clouded by too much drugs. I think if you're going to place the blame on someone then you should really blame elvis' physician who kept over prescibing him opiates

Everyone who reads this PLEASE go watch this Elvis Presley movie!
I would never call it cultural appropriation I think he wasn’t a stranger to the community or this music. He embraced both his whole life and stood up for it. I really am moved to see that especially during era he came up in
It was his culture if he was born and raised in the community. To say it is cultural appropriation is to imply culture belongs to a race. That is racist.
This was an amazing movie! I loved the way it was shot; I've never seen a movie shot like this one was. And Austin Butler as Elvis is perfection! I would almost swear Elvis possessed Austin during filming. This film will sweep all of the awards!
I'm so excited to see this movie. It's interesting to see Elvis' rise and fall from a different perspective, in this case, his manager. It'll be compelling to see Hanks as a villain for once!
I saw this movie today. I loved it. Butler did a great job of encapsulating Elvis without making him a caricature. Tom Hanks, capable of convincingly portraying both Mr. Rogers and Col. Tom Parker.
I don't see Parker as a villain. He just saw a money making opportunity and took advantage of it. Elvis was his cash cow. I think he cared for Elvis to an extent.
Saw the movie last night and was amazed. Austin Butler did a phenomenal job portraying Elvis and definitely deserves an Oscar. If Raimi Malek got one for playing Freddie Mercury Austin deserves one for equally if not more impressive performance of Elvis
Elvis wasn’t pulled off the stage at the July 4, 1956 Russwood Park concert in Memphis. He performed a full set, was handed a proclamation of gratitude because it was a charity event and he helped raise so much money, and was escorted away from the fans by the police. The story and photos can be found online.
I have no problem with the director taking creative license. This is an artful representation of the underpinnings and emotions of a man who got swept away in the adoration of the audience as true love - who wouldn't in his position, of course. It was a fabulous movie and Austin was amazing!! He must win the Oscar this year.
I just watched Elvis a few hours ago, and I love how Austin Butler pulled off the Vince McMahon YOU’RE FIRED. I found this film one of my favorites of the year so far. Austin Butler is a near lock for an Academy Award nomination.
That real life shot of Elvis at the end was striking in his ability to sing so amazingly considering how his body was about to give out. He was a furious talent. Elvis has left the building with the single light going at the end was so awesome.

In the film when Pricilla is leaving elvis , he actually does say “we’ll be together again when I’m 50 and you’re 40” so guess they didn’t get it wrong but they didn’t make it obvious…
I'm glad they mentioned it how they did, it wasn't uncommon back then, I have family members with almost the same age difference, they got married in the same era.
5:49 actually, in the film it does mention their age gap of about 10 years, when priscilla is telling him he has gotten out of hand and she’s taking the daughter away and moving somewhere else elvis says something like “maybe when i’m 50 and you’re 40 we’ll be together again” (not exact quote i’m going off memory but you get the jist of it lol)
I grew up watching Elvis movies he had a charisma and way about him that isn't seen often and you can see where somebody would try to cash in on that so it will be very interesting to watch this movie understanding that they took some creative license which makes sense it's not a PBS miniseries on Elvis's life this is a movie based on his life I hope it does well and I hope that it inspires people to look up his music and look up his movies there was a whole lot more than just jumpsuits and hair he was a very talented person

Although he was in many Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows. He was known more as a heartthrob and not a serious actor. Hopefully he will nominated for an Oscar. I did like him in the Sex and City prequel The Carrie Diaries that was on CW.
I watched Elvis last night and since then have been digging deeper into his life and performances. I never looked that closely at his life so I never really knew how as big as he was he could've been even bigger and how much his manager cheated him both financially and professionally. I have a newfound admiration for Elvis not just for his part in the advent of rock n roll or having a such profound effect on the music industry that it changed forever, but the fact that the man was just absolute passion when he performed. In his voice and in his "gyrations" Elvis Presley was nothing but pure passion on stage.
I feel the most misrepresented part is that the movie implies that Parker got Elvis drafted because it was either the Army or jail to get out of trouble for his gyrations on stage.
@@nadyarossi5102 We know because military records show that Elvis was drafted in the same fashion as other young men during that time. Parke did not have authority over the U.S. Army.
@@louiedelatorre1667 Don't get the 1970s' draft Dodgers confused with those drafted in the 1950s. Elvis was drafted in the 1950s and did not fight going into the military.
Saw it last night with my mom and we loved it we laughed we cried we got angry it took us on a rollercoaster of emotions however it was a phenomenal film and very well made and well written Austin Butler and Tom Hanks did a amazing job I can definitely smell a Oscar nom for Mr Butler in the near future he encapsulated Elvis so well.
ELVIS is a treasure. Baz Lurman will not be topped. He made a movie masterpiece. Fitting. Kudos to everyone involved. Austin you are touched by the King himself 💛✨️
Saw the film last week and Austin Butler's portrayal of Elvis had the same effect on me as the latter had on his female fans... I felt light headed with delirium 🤣
I went and saw the movie, took my great grand daughter with me. She sat there with this look on her face like"just shot me now." I sat there trying not to throw my panties on the stage. Just kidding! I told my gr grand daughter when they showed Graceland, I been there, I had done everything Elvis. I had forgotten he died at 42. I left the theater crying. Went home made me a drink, went to my room and cried. I had always loved Elvis.
I saw the movie with my mom and grandmother. I’m a 22 year old and wasn’t an avid listener of Elvis, and went into the movie saying “I’ll only be crying because you guys will be”. Boy was I wrong! I cried throughout the whole film and it struck me in so many different ways as a musician myself. It was absolutely fantastic.
My first memories of music are of Elvis. He is the first famous media star whose name I learned. I, and everyone else, cried when he died. All the feelings of of growing up with Elvis in the world were brought back by this movie. I was shocked at how strong those feelings still are.
They never stated that Elvis and Priscilla were close in age in the movie. It's said that she's a teenager in the film. Also In the scene where Priscilla leaves Elvis he says "when I'm 50 and you're 40 we'll get back together again."
@@rckoala8838 it was only for 1 scene plus Priscilla looked alot older than her age, you can even look it up yourself. And she intentionally acted older for her age to impress Elvis as she was told to by her mom or the couple bringing her to meet Elvis.
The Last Time I cried in a movie was Disney Pixar’s Coco I’m not really that Emotional, but I just watched Elvis last night with my Dad and we Both Cried at the End. It was an amazing Movie Austin Butler deserves an Oscar!!!!!!
I've loved Elvis since I was 5. I'm now 71. He still has diehard fans from babies to granny's. I haven't seen the movie yet but I will. It still hurts to this day that he's gone. I hope he is alive! If so, give us more gospel songs Elvis! Honor the true King, King Jesus! Love you forever! See you in Heaven! ❤️
I really hated that they arrested Elvis all because of how he shook his hips but at the same time I’m glad he let his fans know he would not be manipulated by cops from preventing him what he popularized
Lots of white elderly People in those days hated elvis , cause he sounded black .they even banned him from the radio ,and smashed his records. But elvis was proud of his blues and gospel roots. He grew up among and in the black community, thats where he got his roots. And People in those days say he was poison to there young kids.
Elvis was never arrested. This is another false tale in the movie. The threat of arrest happened in Florida. So when he got on stage, instead of movie in his normal fashion, he wiggled his finger.
I just saw the movie and it was SO sick!!!! Austin Butler should deserve an Oscar for his role as Elvis. Before the end credits, they showed footage of the REAL Elvis Presley and it was pure nostalgia!!!!! I highly recommend this movie!
I cried at that part, i love the man 😭
I watched the movie today too! It was amazing!! Austin Butler did an awesome job acting out Elvis. I cried at the end

Everyone needs to see these great beautiful movie . Austin butler did such an AMAZING job🥰🔥🔥❤️😎
He could've been a worldwide legend tbh
@@cleocatra9324 Prescription drugs were more potent in those days with a lot more side effects. It was not unusual to get hooked. Elvis could have slowed down, but that wasn’t his nature. Even without the pills, the stress probably would have killed him anyway.
Austin Butler put in two years of research and practice before they started filming I think his dedication and talent deserves him the Oscar x
Indeed
In my humble opinion Mr. Butler is a SUPERB actor
It was 3 years actually
Did he ever get that Oscar b
I really hope Austin Butler wins an Oscar for this role. He did a top notch job as Elvis. He definitely deserves an Oscar. It would be a great tribute to Elvis too.
Nah , if Taron Egerton didn't won an Oscar for his performance in "Rocketman", he don't deserve an oscar too.
He won't. The Academy is skewed and basically paid off; it's completely unfair. Plus, Butler is a newcomer, so even if it was an amazing performance, I highly doubt he would win despite the fact that (Austin) is absolutely INCREDIBLE.
He will.. who is gonna beat him?
if they can give one to Rami Malek...
@Steffan R Blanco the movie was supposed to be about the relationship between him and the Colonel though. It wasn't just about Elvis' life.
The movie absolutely did NOT portray Elvis and Priscilla as "roughly" the same age. They didn't mention their ages when they first introduced her. But in the scene where Priscilla left him, he literally said "when I'm 50 and you're 40 we'll be back together"
I was thinking the same thing
I'm fairly certain they mention her age too when they introduce her in the film
Same same
They mentioned early on that she was a teenager too
yep. they sure did!
Well she was probably unaware at the time of all the shady stuff he did since it was hidden for years
@@purple_rxin Well, not when Hanks was talking to her. That was just before they made the movie.

As a younger person(Black person) who was, as most Americans born before the year 2000, familiar with Elvis I must say there was always the "Elvis stole Black Music" aura about him so I never truly understood his presence
After watching this movie and seeing how much of it was fact I’ve come to the conclusion that he really was just extremely and deeply influenced by our culture and perhaps couldn’t have been any other way. That coupled with the tragic realization that he was literally slaved to death as an entertainer gave me a new perspective of The Man
He was basically Eminem
@@patbenz4327 Well sort of lol. I get your perspective. Eminem grew up with and basically lived a life similar to lots of lower/middle class blacks so it only makes sense that he’s who he is. Elvis was a spectator that was heavily influenced by culture.

@@sonnestt they did put that in there. But Priscilla never claims Elvis groomed her because that wasn’t the case. You have to realize that this sort of age gap was the norm back then. The movie was great and Austin Butler should get The academy award. He was wonderful. Elvis
Loved his fans, We could feel it.

The film did not make them seem like the same age. They didn’t outright mention that she was 14 when they met but later on in the film, they say “you’ll be 50 when I’m 40.” I’m pretty sure the film glazed over their age difference when they met because it would make modern audiences really uncomfortable.
They did introduce her as the “teenaged daughter of so and so”
It’s the same as everything else, it was of it’s time and not so shocking then, today it would not be acceptable but then the fact she was 14 would not be as shocking
in an industry full of pedos, a few in the movie, they didnt wanna out themselves right away.
A 9 year age difference probably wouldn't make modern moviegoers particularly uncomfortable. It'd be a much bigger deal back in the 50s.
And plus they didn't really date until 1963. They met and hung out for several weeks when in Germany from time to time with his buddies etc when she was almost 15 in 1960, but didn't see each other again until like 63.

It’s not that they deny that they’re ten years apart. Yes…They do emphasize that they’re ten years apart. However, when they first MEET… Priscilla is intentionally portrayed as older than fourteen.
she never really ever left elvis , she was there for him always jst not married to him anymore !!
While they did mention the age difference later in the film I suspect they didn't bring up how young she was when they met because that is considered unacceptable in 2022. Some people would call him a pedophile.

@@donniedarko5641 yeah but the costume department didnt portray her as a 14 yo teen. The make up and everything made the viewer saw her as at least 18
@@saigonrider yeah because it was way more acceptable for that age difference back then so they kind of brushed it off as to not make modern audiences uncomfortable, but it is mentioned several times

Too bad Hanks will be the only one recognized and nominated. He’s in the ultra liberal Hollywood click
Even though it is biased and the outcomes maybe/probably predetermined wouldn’t change whether he deserves be be nominated and to win. His seemed to be a very good performance.
@@curlybutthair5675 And Hanks loves to kiss the feet of the powers that be @ Hollyweird too, not only a bleeding heart lib but also a brown nose.
There’s unfortunately a lot of inaccuracies with this movie but like Bohemian Rapsody it opens the conversation of what actually happened and gives the younger audiences a face to associate with someone so far away from our generation
Yeah with rocket man as well but I think Elvis was the best even with some of the fiction that was portrayed
@@JackSmith-jw3jw both of you are correcccctttt
@@JackSmith-jw3jw oh 10000% Nothing againist Rami Malack or the guy who played Elton John but Austin Butler truly embodied the role of Elvis and what genuinely shocked me the most is that I exactly what Elvis looked like before I saw the movie but at the end of the movie when they played real footage I literally went “Oh yeah he looks like that and not Austin Butler” 10/10 movie
@@Aviator-Chicken Austin B only sang in beginning, early E. , E. voice matured by th Vegas years
Rami did all the singing, in th movie Bohem. Rhapsody.
Nice assessment
The movie was exceptional- definitely award winning, but who needs an award to justify this level of excellence. Such a gift for us.
Also saw the movie and am with everyone who says Austin Butler deserves an Oscar. It was INCREDIBLE.
Ikr! That montage at the end of the real elvis was a tear jerker for me idk if that was just me tho
Which after Elvis died, it came out that in fact he did sell his soul to the devil & the devil was Tom Parker. He drove Elvis like a money making machine & he got so big so fast he turned to the drugs to cope w the fast paced, demanding lifestyle, which eventually led to his death
@@havemotherwilltrade I cried like a baby...he changed my life. ❤️⚡️❤️

I’ve been a fan of Austin Butler’s since Aliens in the Attic and it’s amazing to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves ❤ and I agree 100% with what Lisa Marie said about him being a frontrunner for the Academy Award for Best Actor
Wow that’s a helluva endorsement coming from Lisa Marie herself ❤
Just finished watching the movie and I’m literally shaking and crying rn. Movie of the year, 100%.
I agree! The cast did a great job, especially Tom Hanks. He should definitely get a Best Supporting Actor award for his portrayal of Colonel Parker.

(Always despised the Colonel, always will)!!!
@Paul Gwyn did you watch the movie
@Paul Gwyn Elvis tragically was just a weak man that got taken advantage of. He didn’t really stand up for himself
@Paul Gwyn did you see the same film?he was trapped and completely taken advantage of!watch the film again
Dad was an Elvis fan so I’ve heard his songs since the womb 😂 I was a bit wary of going because well .. no one can be him
Soooo happy to be proved wrong !! I loved it , laughed , foot tapped and omg yes cried
Austin butler really deserves top credit for his portrayal ❤️ I’m going again 😂 ! I’m 47 and my kids are in their late teens and twenties and they love Elvis … I hope he knows how much he is remembered and love for his songs lives on !
I cant stop watching the 2022 Elvis movie, it is just toooo good! The singing and the outfits and the dancing and even the talking is just so close to Elvis Presley! When he sang unchained melody in the end and showed real Elvis clips i started crying. I think Austin Butler did such a great job and i think he deserves a Oscar for this. Everyone who reads this PLEASE go watch this Elvis Presley movie!
You can't stop watching it ? Do you just stay up for 24 hours per day watching elvis ?

I would never call it cultural appropriation I think he wasn’t a stranger to the community or this music. He embraced both his whole life and stood up for it. I really am moved to see that especially during era he came up in
Absolutely
Agreed. The fact that ‘mainstream’ audiences accept Black sounds more from white artists pre-dates and continues after Elvis.
It was his culture if he was born and raised in the community. To say it is cultural appropriation is to imply culture belongs to a race. That is racist.
Cultural appropriation is a bunch of bullshit.
Me too but even before watching this I knew he wasn't a racist and cared for black ppl unlike most of his audience lol

Definitely. Austin played his part so well you would almost think he was two men in one 😉
EXCELLENT movie. Austin Butler deserves an Academy Award for his performance!!!
I'm so excited to see this movie. It's interesting to see Elvis' rise and fall from a different perspective, in this case, his manager. It'll be compelling to see Hanks as a villain for once!
it was VERY good, you will enjoy it!
I saw this movie today. I loved it. Butler did a great job of encapsulating Elvis without making him a caricature. Tom Hanks, capable of convincingly portraying both Mr. Rogers and Col. Tom Parker.
I saw it yesterday and it was awesome loved it
If Austin doesn't get an Oscar for this it's rigged.his moves looks and voice are spot on.
Tom hanks is amazing as well.
I don't see Parker as a villain. He just saw a money making opportunity and took advantage of it. Elvis was his cash cow. I think he cared for Elvis to an extent.
Rest in peace, Elvis. Wherever you are now, I hope you now know how much your music influenced the world.
And Lisa Marie can tell him personally.
There were so many inaccuracies in the movie that in my opinion, it did not do Elvis justice.

This is an artful representation of the underpinnings and emotions of a man who got swept away in the adoration of the audience as true love - who wouldn't in his position, of course. It was a fabulous movie and Austin was amazing!! He must win the Oscar this year.

In the film when Pricilla is leaving elvis , he actually does say “we’ll be together again when I’m 50 and you’re 40” so guess they didn’t get it wrong but they didn’t make it obvious…

Glad to see that Austin Butler finally getting some recognition. I am glad to see that his acting has some range. I have known who he was since 2009. He has always been a decent actor. I did like him in the Sex and City prequel The Carrie Diaries that was on CW.
Right!! I remember him from the Carrie diaries. So happy how much he’s grown ❤ he is definitely going places.
I feel the most misrepresented part is that the movie implies that Parker got Elvis drafted because it was either the Army or jail to get out of trouble for his gyrations on stage.
it could just be Parker (the character) imposing false threats on Elvis like he did before.
We'll never know. Sounds reasonable, though.
@@nadyarossi5102 We know because military records show that Elvis was drafted in the same fashion as other young men during that time. Parke did not have authority over the U.S. Army.

Most of the ones that are “wrong” aren’t wrong they’re exaggerated or changed to make the movie more interesting or have better atmosphere
Nice Try but it's FICTION
They never stated that Elvis and Priscilla were close in age in the movie. It's said that she's a teenager in the film. Also In the scene where Priscilla leaves Elvis he says "when I'm 50 and you're 40 we'll get back together again."
It was common knowledge that she was 14 when they met. I found it jarring that they didn't have a younger actress play the teenage Priscilla.
@@rckoala8838 it was only for 1 scene plus Priscilla looked alot older than her age, you can even look it up yourself. And she intentionally acted older for her age to impress Elvis as she was told to by her mom or the couple bringing her to meet Elvis.
