The more I see Pete here, the more I like him. He's probably the most even keeled guy on these rock sites, on YT. A gentleman, down to earth, diplomatic, fair minded and so on. Also, an amazing eclectic interest on Music. Much like myself. I like Neil Diamond & Black Sabbath, John Denver & Deep Purple, Cat Stevens & AC/DC. Pete, if you happen upon this, I hope you got a chance to read my sentiments. I saw your true colors as a man and as a human being, when Neil Peart left us, so unexpectedly. You do a good service for people, and I for one, appreciate your show and how you go about your broadcasts. 🙂👍🎸
I love Meddle as well.(As I do the late 60's,very early 70's work) As great a album it is,I feel Dark Side of The Moon is the album where Floyd lost their innocence. But,they haven't done bad for a local band!(Floyd were formed but 30 odd miles away from my hometown!)
I’m so happy to know other people love those albums. I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something special about those albums. They do not get enough credit!
I would have a tough time making a list like this. Floyd for me is all about whatever mood I'm in or what I'm doing while I listen to it. My favorite album at 8 in the morning while driving to work is not going to be the same album as 8 at night while sitting at home.
@@iyerviking Hands down , I heard the studio version after I heard the Pompeii version and it doesn’t even come close , still great on the album but the Pompeii version is on a different level
Here is what I have noticed. The really hardcore Pink Floyd fans, people that own and listen to all their albums. They usually have Meddle and/or Animals very high on their list of favorite albums. If you told me that I was going to die and I have to choose one Pink Floyd album to listen to before I go. I'm picking Meddle. It may not be the best but it's the one I love the most.
How does that make him a true fan? Placing it higher on his list? I think knowing it exists shows he’s a big fan, but ranking it higher doesn’t make him a true fan. I can tell you that I own all of Pink Floyd’s studio releases except the Endless River and The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon are definitely my favorites. I don’t care if it’s cliched, I absolutely love them. But you know after that I’d probably put Division Bell, Atom Heart Mother and (cliched again) Wish You Were Here.
@@tepidtooth8539 What I’m trying to say is that 99% of people in this world when when you ask what their favorite Floyd song is, they’d most likely say Another brick, comfortably numb, wish you were here, learning to fly, time, money etc. But if you go a little deeper, if they actually listen to the band, they might say something like astronomy domine, echoes, wots... uh the deal etc. Most people really overlook Ummagumma, as it is kind of a mess and there isn’t much meaning in it(despite it’s importance in the long run), so people who aren’t really into Pink Floyd won’t see anything good in it, and a lot of Floyd fans just think that it is kind of a meme. Let’s face it, the wall is a masterpiece, dsotm is a masterpiece, animals is a masterpiece, wish you were here is a masterpiece, meddle is a masterpiece, but Ummagumma is hard to call a masterpiece for most people. What I’m trying to say is that he is truly a fan because he loves the sounds that the band produced in their struggling post Barrett era, when he could just hop on the bandwagon of their late 70s hits. Me personally, I love their early stuff, and I think that Barrett was one of the most underrated musicians of the British Invasion and all music as a whole, and I think that their psychedelic sounds were phenomenal, but most people will say that their early stuff was nowhere near their late stuff. Why, because they aren’t fans of all their music; just a time period of their music. The guy in this videos favorite album was animals, but not far below it was Ummagumma and piper before the wall because he is a true fan of the band as a whole: psychedelic 60s all the way to classic rock 70s. I hope this answered... and Srry for the long response.
@@tepidtooth8539 btw, I don’t think that liking their popular stuff makes one a poser, as their popular stuff is actually scarily brilliant. My favorites are the wall and dsotm, and I’m the biggest Floyd fan that I know.
@@d-ro3266 I agree, and it most certainly is their best! It’s just when people say it’s their favorites when it’s the only songs they know is when it’s annoying.
I disagree sadly, I just don’t get the same out of it. Feels overproduced, corporate and generally just devoid of the soul Pink Floyd usually has… imo of course
Before I get my main point. Wish you were here is my favourite Pink Floyd album. I was amazed he didn't like brick in the wall album. But In fairness his entitled to his opinion.
Every member made the band made what it was, and I don't think any member should be valued anymore or any less than the others (maybe except for mason lol)
Animals is the most under rated album ever pressed. Probably Floyd at the crest of their creativity. My go to when I need a Floyd hit. Love the others, but Animals is just the album to kick back and listen.
Roger Waters may not be your most-liked Pink Floyd member, but he was arguably the most important. It was his genius that brought us the masterpiece that is Animals.
@Ian McCauley Yes. Waters said that he had the concepts for two albums and presented both to the rest of the band. They chose the Wall. THe other lysics and concept ended up as Waters's solo album "Amused to death"
The most important member was Syd Barrett. He created the band, he named it, he was the main reason the band sounded the way we know them and he was the driving force that influenced them to write some of their most well-known records.
I understand where you’re coming from but The Wall is a whole story, a rock opera. It’s not an album you usually put on to listen to for background noise it’s an album you immerse yourself in. Every song plays a role there’s no filler (imo) and out of all the rock operas I’ve heard this has to be the top, best one. It’s a masterpiece. But all in all great video Pete! 🎶
I think "The Wall" is where Waters was admitting his fragility as a human being to grasp the darker parts of life in a very special and truthful, dare I say himble way. I love "The Wall" "Animals" is only topped in records all time by "Moving Pictures" and "Close to the Edge". But then he became a bit arrogant with his political convictions and remains that way to this day (to a fault). He's rigid, stubborn and quite frankly arrogant. Love him buts true.
Pink Floyd are a very special band to me, especially since they opened me up to the world of prog and psych. Here’s my ranking: 1. The Dark Side Of The Moon 2. Wish You Were Here 3. Atom Heart Mother (one of their more under appreciated albums for sure) 4. Animals 5. Meddle 6. The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn 7. A Saucerful Of Secrets 8. The Division Bell 9. Obscured By Clouds (the hidden gem in the Pink Floyd catalogue) 10. The Wall (about two thirds of this album is quite insignificant to me, but the good songs are truly excellent!) 11. Ummagumma (I love the live disc, but the studio section is utter nonsense) 12. More (some great songs, but it sounds quite disjointed with the movie soundtrack interludes) 13. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason (a good enough album, but I think its successor is much better) 14. The Endless River (good for what it is, but doesn’t seem to go anywhere) 15. The Final Cut (most of this album bores the life outta me)
@@Morn__ I'm trolling lol , but in case you actually care , (worst to best) The endless river Momentary lapse Ummagumma More Obscured by clouds The final cut Division bell Meddle Animals Saucerful of secrets (dont judge I just really like it ) Wish you were here Atom heart mother The wall Dark side of the moon Piper at the gates of dawn Overall I just prefer their psychedelic stuff lol
I don't think I've ever agreed with Peter Pardo more than his doubled line here... "I love animals, and I love Pink Floyd Animals." This 1977 gem has always been my favorite Floyd..all the way back to buying it brand new when I was 11. The LP has simply got it all. Everything, from the epic songs, to the brilliant biting lyrics, to the fantastic guitar, to the greatest ever Pink Floyd album cover! This record completely transfixes and hypnotizes the listener from it's humble beginning to the glorious & dramatic end. And all three of the magnificent epic tracks are all so disparately good, it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite. 🐕 🐖 🐑 *And btw, I actually agree with his #2, #3 & #4 as well Marc ⚡
@@xsm5525 How? If anything, it’s quite underrated, being no where near as popular as DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall etc. It’s an incredible experience to listen to.
@@AudiophileTubes yes indeed , back in the 70s they used to have the World Series of Rock shows .lots of great shows. my first one was Mahogany Rush,Blue Oyster Cult,Aerosmith,Uriah Heep and Faces in 75
I love the Final Cut. Intimate, dark and intense. Lyrically brilliant and for that alone should be considered up there in Pink Floyd’s best! I’m as much a lyric guy as well as a full on music guy. I love the best of both worlds. Great lyrics create a depth of purpose that resonate and can stay with you.
Yeah I absolutely empathize with Waters losing his father during WWII when he was a baby and appreciate how that has impacted who he is being anti-war and all. I think he’s an incredibly talented and deep individual, but Waters just went a bit far on the Final Cut. It was kind of like his therapy sessions exposed for all of us to see.
I cant say i agree with just dismissing albums like The Wall or The Final Cut as Rogers therapy sessions. He uses themes of his fathers death in the same way he does with the Thatcher administration, the Cold War and the buildup to the Falklands War. Dismissing those later Waters albums as him just winging about his fathers death just disregards any value that they have.
I think that is the beauty of Final Cut in it's complete transparency to one's suffering. It has just as many detractors as fans and in my experience when something pushes against boundaries set by fan is where the true diamonds exist.
I absolutely love “The Final Cut”. If that is a Roger Waters solo record, then “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” is a David Gilmour solo record, and that one had to be remixed to add Richard Wright in and get Nick Mason to record real drums and overall remove the 80s sound of it. I’ll take “The Final Cut” over it, any day.
Absolutely! I mean damn first of all who (that is a true floyd fan) can even begin to put their albums in a best to worst or worst to beat list as each album is in and of its own a master work of art. That said if you are going to attempt to rate them you should at least make sub lists 1) pink floyd with Barret 2) pink floyd ( Roger , Rick, Nick, Dave ) 3.) Pink floyd ( without waters) 4.) Roger waters (without floyd ) // and ah anyone want to try and tell me that the pros and cons of hitchhiking isn't a freaking masterpiece?...... then add amused to death and KAOS . And all three of them are every bit as good maybe better than momentary lapse of reason and i would say better than the division bell ( haven't decided about endless river yet to be honest so I will not make any comments on it at all here now) so yeah my top three are 1) meddle, dsotm, wywh, animals , atom heart mother, ummagumma, obscured, more, the wall , final cut 1) sub. a// a nice pair ( saucers & pipers) 2) pros and cons, KAOS, Amused to Death 3.) Momentary lapse of reason & division bell
Absoluetely once more, Gustavo. The "final cut" (a Waters' solo album with a great input by Kamen) is much much better than a "momentary lapse of reason" (a Gilmour's solo album) that sounds so freaking outdated to my ears
Anthony Stargaryen you can’t possibly be taken seriously with a comment like “zero redeeming qualities”. Even if you prefer Gilmour’s solo work over Waters’, you have to appreciate the guitar solo on “The Fletcher Memorial Home”, “Your Possible Pasts”, “The Final Cut” and “Not Now John” (which even features David’s vocals, and the women backup singers that clearly David loved enough to keep using afterwards when he wrote and recorded music without Roger.)
I thought the whole point of Pete's ranting was not to think about correct or incorrect. I like very, very much Dark side and At Pompeii. I do like Wish you were here, but every other album is pretty boring to me. So what?.
I personally find Dark Side vastly overrated, I rarely listen to any of the tracks from it on Echoes. Wish You Were Here should hold the place of reverence.
@@Clay3613 maybe, it's definitely debatable, but Dark Side was the first of that sort of "Theme" album that continued through the Wall and set the style that made Floyd popular and there is merit to bring the first. I personally like the older stuff best, well with the exception of "See Emily Play, but it's all good and even though I'm not a big Waters fan I liked the band best with him in it. The only criticism I could have of Floyd is they definitely could get pretty depressing at times but then so could a lot of other bands including the original blues lineup of Fleetwood Mac, one of my favorites
@@Clay3613 I don't think it's overrated at all because it was so unlike anything else out there at the time and so far ahead of it's time. And over 700 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts?
@@Clay3613 Hmmm, perhaps "overplayed" rather than "overrated"....but fair point, I get it. They have so many great albums, Meddle was wonderful as well...
James Marocco I’m with you but , as of now, the Wall is my third favourite although it was right at the top. It most certainly isn’t an over-rated concept album. It is genius but for some reason I now find it depressing. Maybe it’s my age. Whereas Dark Side isn’t a tough listen emotionally because it takes me to a better frame of mind by the end. I find jazz albums often like this. Yes I know Miles Davis’s middle albums like Sketches of Spain are genius but wow do they bring me down.
I agree with Pete's assessment. I put The Wall as a double album that would have been better as a single album such as Fleetwood Mac's Tusk and Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". All of them would have been masterpieces if someone invited an editor inside the studio to boil the tunes down into genius. Additionally, it was THE WALL album that convinced Roger Waters that he was Pink Floyd. It got to his head and the band was never the same.
Wish You Were Here will always be my favorite PF album, Animals comes in second and Dark Side Of The Moon third. I also really like A Saucerful Of Secrets and Obscured By Clouds and I do enjoy listening to The Wall in its entirety, but it is uneven. But I'll say this: Hey You, a track from The Wall that is rarely mentioned, ranks VERY high on my fav PF songs list! I'm one of those who can't find much enjoyment on the debut album...
Awesome list! So glad to see Meddle and Obscured by Clouds so high on the list. Wish you were here - I wore out the record and bought the CD. Animals - I have the record. I have the CD. I have the remastered.. So good. Although i used to like Piper and Saucerfull, I have not listened to them in decades. Saw them life once in the late 80s. Wish i had seen them a decade before. Anyway, this was a great trip down memory lane. Thank you!
Luckily , I got to see em when I was in my mid-teens in 1981....still with Roger..i think it was their last one together in that century. It was in London , June 1981.
WYWH....was playing on my turntable during my first 'complete' sexual experience in the 1970s!! It was my mid-teens, and i planned it that way too!!!!😀 Anyone else?
The final cut is my favourite floyd album. Incredible, emotional, its a feel record, it touches so many nerves, like "your possible pasts" i didnt live that life......but i feel it
You truly have the most controversial favorite album. Everyone feels it’s “too much waters” “too much opera”. They’re not wrong necessarily. It’s basically just a rejects from the wall album. I still love it in its own right for how blatantly waters calls out the world leaders and how racist he is to Japan. My favorite still is animals.
@WORST CHANNEL EVER hard for me to pick a favorite but I have to say they were always a prog band, what Dark side was the first of was their journey into becoming a theme album band
The Wall is a masterpiece that also happened to have some huge hit songs on it. I don't feel that that diminishes it as an artistic endeavour. Animals and Dark Side and others are also incredible, but I personally think that Floyd peaked with The Wall. Gilmour's later Floyd work is great but lacks the edge and darkness of the Waters era. I love Momentary Lapse and some Division Bell stuff but it isn't as weighty.
My fave Pink Floyd albums for delivering these many minutes of pure musical pleasure, for me: 1. The Wall (70) 2. Meddle (41) 3. Animals (39) 4. The Dark Side Of The Moon (36) 5. Wish You Were Here (35) 6. A Saucerful Of Secrets (10) 7. Ummagumma (9.5) 8. The Final Cut (5)
It’s a real drag that people are so intolerant of the opinions of others that you have to tip toe around expressing yourself. You obviously know what you are talking about there is even a Gibson Les Paul on the wall behind you. I come here because I respect your thoughts and opinions and find this channel entertaining. Keep doing what you do man most of us are not butthurt because you may have a different opinion than us. Peace
He doesn't HAVE TO, nobody's putting a gun to his head , he's CHOOSING TO. And because he has a guitar on the wall that means he knows what he's talking about ????? LMAO ! ….Everyone is entitled to their opinion , which means, EVERYONE is allowed to agree or even DISAGREE with him. Seems to me YOU are the one who is "butthurt" - maybe you should hang a guitar on your wall to help you feel better ? LMAO
@@lamnuck Here's the deal- I could care less how many people like different albums from mine, list them in a different order, etc.. We ALL like what we like, and all have our own opinions on which albums mean more to each of us. What I have a problem is, as I state on all these videos that these are the albums (or songs) that I like best, and that you the viewer might like different ones, and that's cool, and it would be good to read what you prefer. Too many people take the choices I list as personal attacks on them or the bands, and never even list which ones they like. Calling me names, or any other viewer on this channel for that matter, for our personal choices, takes thing a little too far in my opinion. If your only reason for visiting this channel (and I'm not talking about you directly) is to give me or anyone else shit about our choices and not engage in ADULT conversations about music, I have no use for you here. I'm TRYING to keep this a place where we can all have meaningful conversations, but there's a growing number of people who just seem to be unable to do so.
I think “bby nuck” is a fan of Pete and his channel. His “loud” reply to “Wade Wilson” I believe had good intent, albeit he maybe should have let a little more time go by before he responded. But hey, Mr. Wilson left himself wide open with the “guitar on the wall” bit, but he is obviously also a fan of this channel. How about all parties here “shake hands” and look forward to Pete’s next upload? The only one that seems to need a little time in the “time out” corner is Mr. Godfrey.
The Division Bell is one of my fav albums, especially because it is the first album I ever heard. It's stronger than Momentary in my opinion. High Hopes is one of the best Floyd songs and Lost for Words is probably the most undertated Floyd song. P.S. No shout out to Bike?!?!
nice to hear your talking about these pink Floyd albums for me the soundtrack album 'MORE' get's way more higher like this album a lot best for me is "MEDDLE'
Totally agree! Animals is my favorite! Love your top three. Animals has such a wonderful way of getting really low key atmosphere music mixed with a crescendo in some of the most amazing David's guitar solos ever. So creative. And a great album in the face of the punk bands admonishing the prog bands for being too intricate and not enough raw power. Thanks for the vid.
Only just come to your broadcasts in the last few weeks, & loving catching up. It's great to be so often on he same page as you (Animals my favourite Floyd album too, & Purple my favourite band ever) but more importantly you're signposting me to so much fantastic stuff I've not heard yet! Thanks!

A Saucerful of Secrets 10. Obscured by Clouds 9. The Division Bell 8. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 7. The Final Cut 6. Atom Heart Mother 5. Meddle 4. The Dark Side of the Moon 3. Animals 2. Wish You Were Here 1. The Wall
Pete your videos are amazing. Like you a Northeast rocker. I am Autistic and I enjoy your videos. You are a real originator and there are imitators out there but no one tops you as rock music collector. I nowadays am upgrading much of what I have to vinyl. Pink Floyd are my favorite band and the following is my Best to Worst : 1) Wish You Were Here (their masterpiece, even David Gilmour and Rick Wright agree) 2) The Division Bell (I was a senior when that album came out and skipped my prom to see that tour and was the best album IMHO since Wish You Were Here) 3) Meddle (One of These Days, A Pillow of Winds, Fearless and Echoes alone) 4) The Dark Side of the Moon (I love but radio did burn it out and I tend to listen to live versions of songs more now thanks to Immersion box and PULSE) 5) Atom Heart Mother (EPIC) 6) Obscured by Clouds (underrated) 7) A Saucerful of Secrets (classic) 8) The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Syd ruled) 9) The Endless River (another album I play top to bottom) 10) The Wall (I listen to live 1980-81 album more than studio nowadays) 11) Animals (I play either Oakland or Vienna or Boston ROIOs for Animals fix as the songs were more Floyd like live than the studio album and also it was the start of the Roger Waters Power Trip and Rick Wright was underused on album and Rick didn't like the album and Gilmour called it good but not a creative high point) 12) A Momentary Lapse of Reason (original 1987 mix is great but the 2019 updated and remixed is superb and has Nick Mason playing all drums and Rick Wright's keyboards added in via concert recordings into the new updated versions) 13) Ummagumma (I enjoy all bar bits of Grand Viziers Garden Party which got monotonous) 14) More (I enjoy entire thing but some of Quicksilver did drag on) 15) The Final Cut (musically great but the lyrics and Roger Waters' fixation on my dad died, I hate war jumped the shark here) The Zabriskie Point album had the two worst Pink Floyd tracks (Heart Beat Pig Meat and Come In Number 51, noises and a pointless remake of Careful With That Axe) Live albums best to worse : 1) PULSE 2) Live at Pompeii (which was released on the 1972 Obfuscation set) 3) Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81 4) Delicate Sound of Thunder (expanded version will be out November 20) 5) Ummagumma (live disc)
"If you didn't care, what happened to me" Yeah, "Animals" was a punk album and showed Waters sarcasm. And musically brilliant. I agree it is my favourite.
God save the Queen ! She ain't no human being . And there's no future . And England's dreamin' . That's Punk . The line from Pigs On The Wing not so much lol . That line is Roger at his most tender and caring . Punk is angry . Punk is about blame and rebellion . Punk spits in the eye of Pink Floyd . Johnny Rotten use to wear an anti Pink Floyd t shirt and that's a fact . That shirt got him noticed for the first time . I love Pink Floyd , but labeling them Punk in any way is just wrong . Punk is a back to basics approach to Rock . There isn't and never was anything basic about Pink Floyd . They r all way too talented to be a part of a punk band . Natas Liah . Find peace through understanding
@@bradss1000 Something its true, "Final Cut" is like a Solo Rogers Waters Album, from that point of view, of course is not the best group album, in that sense I agree with you. But, as a piece it self it takes through a wonderful and melancholic journey. I love the song "Not now John", I love the contrast between Roger and Gilmour in that song, I have the special edition with the song "When the tigers broke free", which belongs to "The Wall" movies, but its included in this edition. I understand its like a disc with not a clear climax, but I like the way stories are told (Sorry for my not so good english) thanks for answer me. I'll be waiting your videos.
My favorite line on the whole Animals album is on the song Dogs. It's the line that I think of quite often and it's just stayed with me since the first time I heard the song Back in 1979 when I was 15 and I borrowed the record from a friend's older brother. The line is: "You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking." Man I love that line! I honestly don't think a week goes by without me thinking of that line! Awesome line!
Love most of them. I'd personally rate them as: 1. Wish You Were Here 2. Dark Side of the Moon 3. Animals 4. The Wall 5. Piper at the Gates of Dawn 6. A Saucerful of Secrets 7. Meddle 8. Ummagumma 9. Atom Hear Mother 10.A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Great video thank you for opinions. I have taken my time and listed these and will buy them in your order as I respect your choices. I have had The Wall since the 1970’s and love it but didn’t buy anything else from them so this is going to be an exciting journey for me.
I agree with Pete on The Wall (#4 on my list). Lots of filler. Side one & two (Disc 1) are perfect. A song or two from side two (vinyl) could of been dropped. Side 3 & 4 (Disc 2) could of been condensed to one side of an album (vinyl). There's your fillers.
Yeah, I mean it is a rock opera. One of my favorites when I was a teen, I just prefer a lot of their other albums now. There's quite a few really nice tracks outside of the well known ones but I can see it not being to everyone's taste.
kevin the truck driver, well to me: Hey You; Nobody’s home; Comfortably Numb; In the Flesh; Run Like Hell; Waiting for the Worms; The Trail. These are all brilliant tracks, that’s not bad for (the bad) half of an albums worth of tracks.

The Division Bell 11.Atom Heart Mother 12. A Momentary Lapse Reason 13.More 14.Ummagumma 15.Endless River. Love the channel.
My list: 1 - The Wall 2 - Wish you were here 3 - Atom heart Mother 4 - Medley 5 - Animals 6 - The Dark Side of the moon 7 - Ummagumma 8 - The Division Bell 9 - Final Cut
I'll have to disagree with you on the final cut one. The soundtrack album is far worse (I'm being biased because the final cut is the only album I have on vinyl at the moment)
I would rank the 70s albums like this: 1. Animals (this is just too good. Truly their magnum opus. Not only are the lyrics absolutely genius, but the music is as amazing as ever. Dogs is probably their best song, very complex with multiple sections. Pigs and Sheep are awesome as well. 10/10) 2. Wish You Were Here (probably Pink Floyd’s most emotional album. Both halves of Crazy Diamond are beautiful and atmospheric. Welcome to the machine is dark and mysterious, Have a Cigar is a great rocker, and the title track is a heartbreaking ballad. 10/10) 3. The Dark Side of the Moon (the first album I ever listened to by Pink Floyd, and also the album that opened up the world of progressive rock for me. This album has classics such as Time, Great Gig in the Sky, Money, and the four track medley at the end. Doesn’t get much better than that!! 10/10) 4. The Wall (the concept behind this album is so genius. The story truly feels like a journey throughout the life of Pink. You can really feel his pain. And there’s so much symbolism in this album. Only problem is that it is no where near as musically advanced as the albums above it. None of the songs are bad, in fact a lot of them are really good, but they’re nothing compared to Dogs, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Time. 9/10) 5. Meddle (definitely the best album of the “Pre-Dark Side Era.” One of These Days is a fantastic instrumental opener. The rest of side one is pretty great too, with the folk rocker “Fearless” being the highlight. And side two, which is taken up entirely by “Echoes” is a mindblowing psychedelic experience. This album might not fit together as well as the albums above it, but it’s still a great experience all around. 8/10) 6. Atom Heart Mother (their first album of the 70s and the start of a new era for them. They had reinvented themselves with a new sound, and although this album displays that sound in its primitive form, it is still very good. Much like Echoes, the title track suite on this album is weird and trippy but very cool if you’re in the right mood. If and Fat Old Sun are two lovely acoustic tunes, but the highlight on this album is Summer ‘68, a fun pop rock song. 8/10) 7. Obscured By Clouds (nothing special, but it does contain some pretty great songs, such as Burning Bridges, Stay, Wot’s Uh The Deal (my personal favorite) and some other good psychedelic folk rock tracks. 7/10) As for Pink Floyd’s none-70s albums, I have tried listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn and really didn’t enjoy it that much. I don’t really have interest in listening to Pink Floyd’s other albums tbh, but those 70s ones are really good and enough to make Pink Floyd one of my favorite bands ever.
@@mavisevelyn618have you heard Careful with that axe Eugene? I dont really like their 60s stuff either but that song is the exception. Gives me chills
My top 3: Meddles. Animals. Darkside Of The Moon. Only reason for Meddles being at the top? Echoes. It's the best Prog track this side of Xanadu. Bite me.
"It's too late to lose the weight you use to need to throw around so have a good drown as you go down all alone dragged down by the stone" - One of my favorite lyrics ever. I know this isn't popular to say but I like Gilmour's guitar solo in Dogs more than the one in Comfortably Numb.
The lyrics are very dark, sure. But surely not his best, that would be Dark Side or Wish you were here. And also, the fact that he had sole lead vocals on that album worsens it very much. The reason why their albums worked up until Animals is the diversity in vocals. Gilmore and Wright had angelical voices. But Waters dismissed them. He even fired Wright. Final Cut is the peak of Waters' ego, if he wasn't so eccentric maybe he could work as a team with his bandmates
I would say that Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals are the real Pink Floyd trilogy. Three almost perfect albums that blended progressive rock and psychedelic rock and presented it in a marvellously produced and edited way, to make it more accessible and to give it a unique and ethereal tone. That is my opinion.

I’m with you on Animals, dude. My favorite Floyd record. Not with you on The Wall, however, which alternates between number three and four on my list. All of my favorite stuff is post- Syd, though I like the early material, as well.
I can understand where you’re coming from to an extent, given that the visuals are so cool in the movie but anytime the guy playing Pink sings I can’t stand it I think it sounds so stupid. Other than that, like I said the visuals are so cool and it gives the album an extra layer that you don’t get with the album alone. I just hate that dudes singing
Third video of yours that I've watched in row, Pete! I'll add my top ten Floyd: 1 Wish You Were Here 2 Dark Side of the Moon 3 Piper at the Gates of Dawn 4 Meddle 5 The Wall 6 A Momentary Lapse of Reason 7 Animals 8 More 9 The Division Bell 10 A Saucer Full of Secrets
@ All too true my friend. Me and one of my best friends used to drink to Floyd: a different album for a particular moment in life worth getting drunk to lol. Ahh the memories . . .
ALL of their albums before THE WALL are their best, easily. I have been listening to PF since only '74 though. Thanks for the excellent video, Pete P! May Syd R.I.P.
I have to agree with you on Roger Waters. I like him but, he would have been a footnote in the annals of 60's psychedelic rock without Gilmour. Syd's flameout would have been the only thing anyone remembered about the Floyd.
Waters was a great lyricist, and idea man. But his ego got over-inflated and he destroyed the band. He more than proved his writing was only good with the band supporting him. When they worked as a unit, they were unstoppable. I'll never forgive him for what he did to Wright, who _did_ get the last laugh on the Wall tour I suppose. But Wright was a secret ingredient they never recovered from losing. The sum total was greater by far than the individual parts.
15: More 14: Ummagumma 13: The Endless River 12: A Saucerful of Secrets 11: Piper at the Gates of Dawn 10: Obscured by Clouds 9: Atom Heart Mother 8: The Division Bell 7: A Momentary Lapse of Reason 6: The Final Cut 5: Meddle 4: The Wall 3: Wish You Were Here 2: Animals 1: The Dark Side of the Moon

Finally!! Someone giving some love to Obscured By Clouds!!
I agree 100%
I love Meddle as well.(As I do the late 60's,very early 70's work)
As great a album it is,I feel Dark Side of The Moon is the album where Floyd lost their innocence.
But,they haven't done bad for a local band!(Floyd were formed but 30 odd miles away from my hometown!)
I’m so happy to know other people love those albums. I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something special about those albums. They do not get enough credit!
This is like a mum listing her children as worst to best.
I would have a tough time making a list like this. Floyd for me is all about whatever mood I'm in or what I'm doing while I listen to it. My favorite album at 8 in the morning while driving to work is not going to be the same album as 8 at night while sitting at home.

Meddle is my favorite Pink Floyd Album, although I recognize Dark Side of the Moon as more influential.
For me Meddle is more influential
meddle at #1 is a hot take that i can 10000% agree with
DARK SIDE is just so DAMNED EXISTENTIAL. Positively BRILLIANT!
One person once said “dark side is the best album ever but it isn’t Pink Floyd’s best.”
Here is what I have noticed. The really hardcore Pink Floyd fans, people that own and listen to all their albums. They usually have Meddle and/or Animals very high on their list of favorite
albums.
If you told me that I was going to die and I have to choose one Pink Floyd album to listen to before I go. I'm picking Meddle. It may not be the best but it's the one I love the most.
You know that he’s a true fan for ranking Ummagumma higher than the wall lol

The Division Bell is a criminally underrated album.
My Favorite Pink Floyd Album
Completely agree the Division Bell is top 3 for me
I disagree sadly, I just don’t get the same out of it. Feels overproduced, corporate and generally just devoid of the soul Pink Floyd usually has… imo of course
Before I get my main point. Wish you were here is my favourite Pink Floyd album. I was amazed he didn't like brick in the wall album. But In fairness his entitled to his opinion.
Criminally absurd comment. Why would anyone give a flying fuck how an album is "rated" by anyone other than themselves??
Without Waters the band would have been over after Syd went.
Thirdfish without a doubt
Waters' repetitive war theme I can do without, Without David Gilmour definitely Floyd would of not lasted
It also would’ve died without David and wouldn’t have become what it was today at all without Rick
David Gilmore was really a key part of that band.
Every member made the band made what it was, and I don't think any member should be valued anymore or any less than the others (maybe except for mason lol)
I think ‘Animals’ is their best too, shame people don’t talk about it more!
Yeah...this album ages so well ! ! My favorite too !
Totally agree, from start to finish, great album
It's their third best in my opinion.
Animals has the crappiest lyrics.
Also Syd was the founding member, making Waters 2nd most important
Without Waters there is no message
@Ian McCauley Yes. Waters said that he had the concepts for two albums and presented both to the rest of the band. They chose the Wall. THe other lysics and concept ended up as Waters's solo album "Amused to death"
The most important member was Syd Barrett. He created the band, he named it, he was the main reason the band sounded the way we know them and he was the driving force that influenced them to write some of their most well-known records.
Syd Barrett founded the band,so I think that makes him somewhat pivotal!!!
I once had the police called on me when I was playing "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" on Ummagumma.
Someone heard the scream and freaked out, lol.

Agree it's there most powerful and honest album in a personal connection within the listener and the songs it is my go to album when I'm depressed.
Comfortably Numb also may be the greatest song of all time. Unbiased as well.
The Wall is my favorite pink floyd album, dark side of second, then wish you were here
I think "The Wall" is where Waters was admitting his fragility as a human being to grasp the darker parts of life in a very special and truthful, dare I say himble way.
I love "The Wall"
"Animals" is only topped in records all time by "Moving Pictures" and "Close to the Edge".
But then he became a bit arrogant with his political convictions and remains that way to this day (to a fault). He's rigid, stubborn and quite frankly arrogant. Love him buts true.
the Wall is a very, very overrated album. Real weak album and the concept behind it isn't much of a concept. sounds real dated. far from timeless
Pink Floyd are a very special band to me, especially since they opened me up to the world of prog and psych. Here’s my ranking:

4. Animals
5. Meddle
6. The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
7. A Saucerful Of Secrets
8. The Division Bell
9. Obscured By Clouds (the hidden gem in the Pink Floyd catalogue)
10. The Wall (about two thirds of this album is quite insignificant to me, but the good songs are truly excellent!)
11. Ummagumma (I love the live disc, but the studio section is utter nonsense)
12. More (some great songs, but it sounds quite disjointed with the movie soundtrack interludes)
13. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason (a good enough album, but I think its successor is much better)
14. The Endless River (good for what it is, but doesn’t seem to go anywhere)
15. The Final Cut (most of this album bores the life outta me)

That said if you are going to attempt to rate them you should at least make sub lists
1) pink floyd with Barret
2) pink floyd ( Roger , Rick, Nick, Dave )
3.) Pink floyd ( without waters)
4.) Roger waters (without floyd ) // and ah anyone want to try and tell me that the pros and cons of hitchhiking isn't a freaking masterpiece?...... then add amused to death and KAOS . And all three of them are every bit as good maybe better than momentary lapse of reason and i would say better than the division bell ( haven't decided about endless river yet to be honest so I will not make any comments on it at all here now) so yeah my top three are
1) meddle, dsotm, wywh, animals , atom heart mother, ummagumma, obscured, more, the wall , final cut
1) sub. a// a nice pair ( saucers & pipers)
2) pros and cons, KAOS, Amused to Death
3.) Momentary lapse of reason & division bell
Absoluetely once more, Gustavo. The "final cut" (a Waters' solo album with a great input by Kamen) is much much better than a "momentary lapse of reason" (a Gilmour's solo album) that sounds so freaking outdated to my ears
"On the turning away" alone makes AMLOR a better album than TFC, which has zero redeeming qualities.
No chance that MLOR is better than Final Cut lol
Anthony Stargaryen you can’t possibly be taken seriously with a comment like “zero redeeming qualities”. Even if you prefer Gilmour’s solo work over Waters’, you have to appreciate the guitar solo on “The Fletcher Memorial Home”, “Your Possible Pasts”, “The Final Cut” and “Not Now John” (which even features David’s vocals, and the women backup singers that clearly David loved enough to keep using afterwards when he wrote and recorded music without Roger.)
I'm with you on "Animals"...always loved this as my favorite....my most played Floyd album! Good show Pete!
everyone talks about gilmour, but for me its richard wright's swan song where the keyboards still mattered, especially on 'dogs'
Love Pink Floyd. And you are correct, “Animals” is their masterpiece. Wish it got the same respect as “Dark Side...”

James Marocco I’m with you but , as of now, the Wall is my third favourite although it was right
at the top.
The Wall? Not a 10 for me, but really close...
It’s his opinion bro
The Wall used to be my favorite so I understand how you like it so much but then I got into Animals and I loved it a little bit more
Good reviews and rankings! Hard to argue with the verdict here with Floyd or with the Zeppelin ranking; two of my favourite bands ever.

Bike 🙏🙏this amazing music a masterpiece I could listen bike all the day
nice to hear your talking about these pink Floyd albums
for me the soundtrack album 'MORE' get's way more higher
like this album a lot
best for me is "MEDDLE'
nile song - 'nuff said
Echoes is such a awesome track,so beautiful!
More soundtrack is the hidden (in plain sight) gem in their discog which has slipped below the radar for a great majority of the Floyd fans.
Thanks!
YES ANIMALS!!! Probably the most underrated album of theirs. Thank god someone agrees!
1000% agreement.
Is true cause everybody tells me the same, that is their best album but I haven't listened to that album yet, so I think you are right
Animals is NOT underrated!
"Atom Heart Mother" is the ultimate wake n' bake album.

I just relistened to all of Pink Floyd's discography and my ranking is:
15. Ummagumma
14. Soundtrack to the Film More
13. The Endless River
12. A Momentary Lapse of Reason
11. A Saucerful of Secrets
10. Obscured by Clouds
9. The Division Bell
8. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
7. The Final Cut
6. Atom Heart Mother
5. Meddle
4. The Dark Side of the Moon

1. The Wall
Almost the exact inverse of mine lol 😁

Pete your videos are amazing. Like you a Northeast rocker. I am Autistic and I enjoy your videos. You are a real originator and there are imitators out there but no one tops you as rock music collector. I nowadays am upgrading much of what I have to vinyl. Pink Floyd are my favorite band and the following is my Best to Worst :
1) Wish You Were Here (their masterpiece, even David Gilmour and Rick Wright agree)
2) The Division Bell (I was a senior when that album came out and skipped my prom to see that tour and was the best album IMHO since Wish You Were Here)
3) Meddle (One of These Days, A Pillow of Winds, Fearless and Echoes alone)
4) The Dark Side of the Moon (I love but radio did burn it out and I tend to listen to live versions of songs more now thanks to Immersion box and PULSE)
5) Atom Heart Mother (EPIC)
6) Obscured by Clouds (underrated)
7) A Saucerful of Secrets (classic)
8) The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Syd ruled)
9) The Endless River (another album I play top to bottom)
10) The Wall (I listen to live 1980-81 album more than studio nowadays)
11) Animals (I play either Oakland or Vienna or Boston ROIOs for Animals fix as the songs were more Floyd like live than the studio album and also it was the start of the Roger Waters Power Trip and Rick Wright was underused on album and Rick didn't like the album and Gilmour called it good but not a creative high point)
12) A Momentary Lapse of Reason (original 1987 mix is great but the 2019 updated and remixed is superb and has Nick Mason playing all drums and Rick Wright's keyboards added in via concert recordings into the new updated versions)
13) Ummagumma (I enjoy all bar bits of Grand Viziers Garden Party which got monotonous)
14) More (I enjoy entire thing but some of Quicksilver did drag on)
15) The Final Cut (musically great but the lyrics and Roger Waters' fixation on my dad died, I hate war jumped the shark here)
The Zabriskie Point album had the two worst Pink Floyd tracks (Heart Beat Pig Meat and Come In Number 51, noises and a pointless remake of Careful With That Axe)
Live albums best to worse :
1) PULSE
2) Live at Pompeii (which was released on the 1972 Obfuscation set)
3) Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81
4) Delicate Sound of Thunder (expanded version will be out November 20)
5) Ummagumma (live disc)
"If you didn't care, what happened to me" Yeah, "Animals" was a punk album and showed Waters sarcasm. And musically brilliant. I agree it is my favourite.
Who was told what to do by the man ....
Came out in 77 of course its punk!
Punk was a reaction to Pink Floyd's Animals and prog rock .
Animals was never a punk album . I hate it when idiots label music .
Its all down to personal taste, but Atom Heart Mother would be in my top five. Great, thanks Pete!!
I love your reviews, but I also love "the final cut"
Adrián Gómez- paranoid eyes is the one that comes to mind right now, but the album is definitely a “start to finish” listen every time!
The title track is fabulous
The Gunner's Dream is one of PF most powerful songs.
Two suns in the sunset tiene su onda.
Do you have any videos on your views of remasters?
It took me 40 years to figure out that Dogs is my favorite Pink Floyd track.
I'd personally rate them as:
1. Wish You Were Here
2. Dark Side of the Moon
3. Animals
4. The Wall
5. Piper at the Gates of Dawn
6. A Saucerful of Secrets
7. Meddle
8. Ummagumma
9. Atom Hear Mother
10.A Momentary Lapse of Reason
The division bell is so underrated. The solo with the slide guitar at the end of high hopes is easily some of gilmours best work
omg where did you get that t shirt from
Great video thank you for opinions. I have taken my time and listed these and will buy them in your order as I respect your choices. I have had The Wall since the 1970’s and love it but didn’t buy anything else from them so this is going to be an exciting journey for me.
I’m with you on “The Wall”. A couple of superb bursts, but overall, eh. Thumbs up for Meddle and Obscured.
The Wall is mostly kinda dreary... and it's a poor replica of The Who's Tommy. Meddle, Ummagumma, Piper = Excellent!
Agree, too long and too much chaos in that album. A few jewels but that's it.
Syd bysyd honestly id choose Tommy of the wall
The so called filler is what ties it together to make it epic
I agree with Pete on The Wall (#4 on my list). Lots of filler.
Side one & two (Disc 1) are perfect. A song or two from side two (vinyl) could of been dropped.
Side 3 & 4 (Disc 2) could of been condensed to one side of an album (vinyl). There's your fillers.
Yeah, I mean it is a rock opera. One of my favorites when I was a teen, I just prefer a lot of their other albums now. There's quite a few really nice tracks outside of the well known ones but I can see it not being to everyone's taste.
I’m struggling to see what the filler is on The Wall. Other than a couple of very short tracks (e.g. Vera) I think it’s pretty much all brilliant.
@@greenygreen5308 - To me side 3 & 4 (Disc 2) except *Comfortably Numb & Run Like Hell* I just plainly skip. I love Disc one (side 1 & 2).
kevin the truck driver, well to me: Hey You; Nobody’s home; Comfortably Numb; In the Flesh; Run Like Hell; Waiting for the Worms; The Trail. These are all brilliant tracks, that’s not bad for (the bad) half of an albums worth of tracks.
Animals is also my favorite Pink Floyd album and always has been from the moment I first heard it.

2 - Wish you were here
3 - Atom heart Mother
4 - Medley
5 - Animals
6 - The Dark Side of the moon
7 - Ummagumma
8 - The Division Bell
9 - Final Cut
The final cut was definitely a Roger waters solo album
Animals was probably his best contribution
Worst: The Final Cut
Best: Whish You Were Here
Favorite: Atom Heart Mother
Favorite tune: Sheep
I'll have to disagree with you on the final cut one. The soundtrack album is far worse (I'm being biased because the final cut is the only album I have on vinyl at the moment)
@@Muzzerie it's all good
No. The Final Cut is one of the best albums by Floyd.
The final Cut is a diamond.

Dark side is an amazing album but I've heard it so much that I dont care if I ever hear it again.
Nah I can't go on with my life without ever hearing us and them again... that tracks is magical in every way
did you skip number 14 at the end or am i having an old window pane episode : - )
I would rank the 70s albums like this:
1. Animals (this is just too good. Truly their magnum opus. Not only are the lyrics absolutely genius, but the music is as amazing as ever. Dogs is probably their best song, very complex with multiple sections. Pigs and Sheep are awesome as well. 10/10)
2. Wish You Were Here (probably Pink Floyd’s most emotional album. Both halves of Crazy Diamond are beautiful and atmospheric. Welcome to the machine is dark and mysterious, Have a Cigar is a great rocker, and the title track is a heartbreaking ballad. 10/10)
3. The Dark Side of the Moon (the first album I ever listened to by Pink Floyd, and also the album that opened up the world of progressive rock for me. This album has classics such as Time, Great Gig in the Sky, Money, and the four track medley at the end. Doesn’t get much better than that!! 10/10)
7. Obscured By Clouds (nothing special, but it does contain some pretty great songs, such as Burning Bridges, Stay, Wot’s Uh The Deal (my personal favorite) and some other good psychedelic folk rock tracks. 7/10)
As for Pink Floyd’s none-70s albums, I have tried listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn and really didn’t enjoy it that much. I don’t really have interest in listening to Pink Floyd’s other albums tbh, but those 70s ones are really good and enough to make Pink Floyd one of my favorite bands ever.
Their 70s stuff is the best!

My top 3:
Meddles.
Animals.
Darkside Of The Moon.
Only reason for Meddles being at the top? Echoes. It's the best Prog track this side of Xanadu. Bite me.

My favorite solo song is Octopus by Syd Barrett
You have no word
wow! I literally thought I was alone in loving animals the most. (DSoTM is a close 2nd but in all honesty I love all of their albums).
Can't tell if you're sarcastic
The song "the Gold is in the..." from Obscured by Clouds has one of the best Gilmour guitar solos
Pa-leez. That song is an embarrassing cock rock cliche on which Gilmour sounds like a drunken Stephen Stills.
@@voltaire6668 now...can you name any early Floyd songs that have a better solo?
"It's too late to lose the weight you use to need to throw around so have a good drown as you go down all alone dragged down by the stone" - One of my favorite lyrics ever. I know this isn't popular to say but I like Gilmour's guitar solo in Dogs more than the one in Comfortably Numb.
the final cut, the wall and the animals are a trilogy. one album complements the other. The final cut is waters at its best. A great album.
too much waters
Far too pretentious.

Not just Gilmour. Wright is the key of the "Pink Floyd sound" and Mason´s weird and lovable drumming are also fundamental.
@@hedusoto6076 Without Gilmour, none of them would be household names.
