I'm 13, I recently started listening to this band. It's really good. My favorite song is probably... Time for DSOTM, Comfortably Numb for The Wall, and Echoes for whatever the hell that album was called.
the wall is my favourite album but high hopes is my favourite pink floyd song, high hopes tells the story of their careers and talk about diversity in society and a lot of controversial things, high hopes is a story in itself snd thats why i love it so much

The fact that The Wall loops is so trippy, it could be saying that Pink falls back into his isolation and addiction or it represents other people building their own walls, it’s a really dark album and that’s why it’s amazing. To top it off, the transition from “Outside the Wall” to “In the Flesh” is genius because; 1. There’s a hidden piece of Roger talking and 2. At the start of “In the Flesh”, whatever the instrument is it becomes super quiet, tricking first time listeners to turn it up and then their eardrums are destroyed by the guitar. It’s amazing.
One of the instruments in the beginning of In The Flesh? is a clarinet, though there’s another that I believe is some sort of free-reed instrument like an accordion or melodica
@@wyattscheller8026 I interpreted it as another ‘pink’ being born. A cycle of war creating more fatherless, sheltered children falling into isolation and fascist ideas, leading to more division and potentially another war.

It's more so that the other songs are alright, but One Of These Days and Echoes blow them out of the water(s). A Pillow of Winds and San Tropez are still alright.
So whoever reading this, if you HAVEN'T seen 'Echoes live at Pompeii' by pink Floyd, do yourself a favor and watch it all, it's an absolute masterpiece and very arguably the best song they made.
Ive seen it a couple of times since it appeared on RUclips. It used to be my favorite floyd song but ive kinda drifted away from that sound and nowadays my favorite album would be Division bell.
@steven Brunton You're right. I saw a documentary on it today. Its a continuation of The Division Bell really, but not released at the time. I love that it has Wright's keyboard playing in it though and some moments in it are fantastic bits of music
steven Brunton uh, if it was for money it would of been more expensive than what it was, would of been labelled as limited edition, would of been labeled the last pink Floyd album, probably would of been made a solo album too but with slight alterations. That’s money making, putting together pieces of old songs and putting it out there isn’t really money making, especially when you can listen to the entire thing on Spotify.
Pink floyd: *releases Dark side* Well, what shall we do now that we have one of the best álbums ever Made? *releases wish You where here* wow, now WTF we Will do after make two of the best álbums ever Made?! *Releases Animals* holy shait what we gonna do after three fucking Best albums ever Made? *Releases the wall* AND NOW THEY ARE 4 OMG *Releases the final cut* awww fuck
I was 15 when The Wall was released, living in a boys’ home with other rejects. We were huge fans of DSOTM, WYWH and Animals. None of those albums prepared is for The Wall. We were spellbound. Each and every one of us felt the record in a very personal way. We had each built our walls and we understood all of it on an emotional level. At the same time, it was so liberating. A battle cry. One of my favorite memories is of the night a friend and I got caught driving in a snow storm and had to go really slow. We turned the radio off and sang The Wall from start to finish, improvising the instrumental parts by making weird noises. We knew every guitar solo. The thing is in our DNA. And it has aged well! Thank you for this list.
@@dereklewis4321 I'll always defend Ummagumma. It had the potential to be a 10/10 masterpiece. Sysyphus has some amazing parts, Grantchester Meadows is gorgeous, Several Species is very interesting, Narrow Way part 2 is really good and Grand Vizier has interesting ideas. Not to mention the live album, which is mindblowing.
Just want to point out that the whole point of the release of The Endless River was to pay homage to Richard Wright and use previously recorded keyboard tracks they had of Richard. They werent trying to make a hit record; they were just paying their respects in a way. Just wanted to point that out because u seemed to miss the purpose of the album and saying that david was just wanting to exploit the name for money was a bit offensive when he was actually just trying to show the world some great ambient keyboard recordings Richard had made. Other than that great video man
The Wall is brilliant. I understand why it's not everyone's favorite, it has a "drier" sound than other albums, but there's some truly underrated gems, like Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, Nobody's Home and both In the Flesh's, in addition to the usual great songs.
How old are you? I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd for 50 year. I may not agree with your ranking, but I’m very impressed with your devotion and your knowledge. The are one of a kind!. Track by track. Bravo to you.
I'm 28 and mine started by hearing the wall and dark side on mom and dads record player and them telling me about them going to see the wall live, when cd's became a thing they got echoes, the division bell and wish you were here and i listened to all of those too. my favourite song might be wish you were here because i love the line "did you exchange a walk on part in a war for a lead role in a cage" but i love high hopes too. i saw an older guy at work recently with a floyd shirt i'd never seen before and complemented him on it he asked me for my favourite floyd line and i quoted the one above, i guess he was checking to see if i would quote one of the more mainstream songs like another brick in the wall or money or something. he nodded at my suggestion of best line and told me i had good taste :D
On the wall you can hear in the end of the song "outside the wall"(the last song of the album) someone saying "isn't this where" and in the song "in the flesh?"(first song of the album) you can hear right in the beginning "we came in?" So it makes a whole sentence "isn't this where we came in?" Which makes it a perfect loop
I’ve been trying to figure out what he was saying for the past three days lmao. I love the wall, but there’s just so much to unpack that when you listen to it you notice something new every time.
Correction. "isn't this where we first came in?" It took me years of listening, over and over again, to work this out. And then I read it in a magazine, six weeks later.
The Endless River is a beautiful homage to everything Pink Floyd was. You can hear almost every sound the band used over the years on it. It's also a beautiful tribute to Richard Wright. Very underrated album.
Considering that members of The Orb worked on Endless River, and The Orb made trance remixes of most of Pink Floyd's albums, they're worth listening to.
Hands down all time favorite song is “Dogs” it’s long as hell and I probably annoy people when I show them it but just it tells a great story and I relate to the lyrics a lot too growing up
Dark side of the moon will always be my favorite just because of the time in my life I discovered it. Time literally made me cry when I listened to it, and Brain Damage is also so good. I know its normie, but I just love it.
Yes division bell is awesome and its way better than the final cut, and momentary lapse is better than final cut as well, this kid is annoying, just wanna punch him in the dome....
Macc Attacc wish you were here and the wall definitely don’t feel cohesive though. Have a Cigar and Welcome to the Machine are good songs but they don’t really relate to the overall idea of the album. And The Wall has great moments but half of the album is filler.
@@mickeymurphy2487 always interesting how different music taste can be. I absolutely love Pink Floyd's sound and in my opinion the unreachable peak in music history
@LegoGuy87 In all honesty, most of my negative feelings about Radiohead come from Kid A. I'll probably piss off a lot of people when I say this, but I can not stand that album and everything about it sonically. To me, Kid A is 50 minutes of tedious, banal, and pretentious electronica that never actually goes anywhere. Measured as a rock album, it is absolute crap. If you like that kind of stuff, all the power to you, but it just isn't for me. If you weren't too infuriated by that rant, could you please recommend me the album of theirs that has the fewest things in common with Kid A?
It's an amazing song! Here's me list, I'm new to Pink Floyd 1. Wish You Were Here 2. Comfortably Numb 3. Time 4. Shine on You Crazy Diamond 5. Echoes (Pompeii live version) 6. Another Brick in The Wall 7. Money 8. Mother 9. High Hopes 10. Learning to Fly
@William Magee i get your point however when the only reason you dont like an album is because Rodger Waters isnt in it...then i have to ask are you a Pink Floyd fan or a Rodger Waters fan?
I definitely agree with The Wall being #1 in terms of the concept and execution of the whole album altogether, however I am torn between DSOTM and Wish You Were Here in terms of how strong the individual songs are. It's incredible how The Wall comes together as a full album but there's definitely a lot of tracks on there that I wouldn't really listen to on their own; whereas on DSOTM especially, as well as Wish You Were Here, every single song is just a masterpiece in and of itself. I agree that the concepts, while great, can't compare to The Wall, but I guess as someone who listens to music on shuffle a lot I personally rank The Wall below those two, and maybe below Animals. But again, it's a totally different metric, so I think when considering each album as a full unit and weighting the conceptual part heavily, The Wall does come out on top. For me, not as enjoyable to listen to, but undoubtedly an incredible work of art.
Great answer, and I would add, the wall was a story and therefore lent itself to the show (and the film to a lesser extent) which further amplified its cohesive nature. That said, there were still many great stand-alone tracks apart from the obvious 'Another Brick' and Sublime 'Comfortably Numb' ...Mother, Goodbye Blue Sky, Hey You, Nobody Home and the epic foot stomper Run Like Hell ...all brilliant and well crafted in their own right.
I feel thats what waters brought to the table in pink floyd. If you take a look optimal pink floyd was waters story telling and lyrics accompanied by the rest of the bands music and creativity. Too much waters and you get poems over GCD (The Final Cut), Too much the rest of the crew and you get some albums with solid songs (MLOR and Division Bell) but that dont make sense lyrically (and in my opinion dont feel cohesive at all). I really would have liked concepts like amused to death and pros and cons been executed by the whole band instead of just Waters. Do you guys imagine amused to death with some sick gilmour solos and soft vocals, wright spatial sound and mason crazy rifts?
The Trial is what made Pink Floyd click for me too. I played The Wall while riding my bike, not paying too much attention to the album, and for that reason I didn’t like it much at first. But The Trial distracted me, and made me pay attention to it. After that I liked the wall ALOT.
I first listened to Meddle when I was searching for One of These Days by Neil Young and accidentally played the first track. And now I love Pink Floyd. Thanks RUclips.
I discovered it from a manga/anime called jojos bizarre adventure and i was listening to it and saw the pompeii version and im really into history so i was like this is interesting hearing that started a very deep love for there music
Any Piper fans? It’s one of my all time favourite records and one of the finest most honest pieces of art ever created. Syd is the greatest artist to ever live.
If Roger Waters is listening, I think that since he has brought back *The Wall* he should take a look into bringing back *The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn* in memory of bandmate Syd Barrett.
I will never forget the first time I heard that album. My mom bought the cd for the car and put it in after shopping. I had not really “taken in” pink floyd before. But it was my first real introduction aside from hearing the basics on the radio. I was hooked ever since
It's your favorite. There's no 'best' when it comes to subjective, opinion-based stuff. I love Us and Them, Comfortably Numb, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but that's only my opinion. I'm sure we're all collectively glad Floyd existed as a band, though.
@@rikk319 it is painfully obvious that is an opinion. When somebody makes a passionate statement, just let them make it, no need to tell them it is only their opinion. Quite sure they are aware.
@@adventuresofjandk Well for starters they're known to be unoriginal plagurists who fought legal battles because of it. Look it up if you like, but if YOU like the music than don't let that stop you from enjoying a Zeppelin record.
@@dom6366 You realize that music is stolen constantly by other artists, right? The Beatles famously took Twist and Shout and lyrics from a Chuck Berry song. Metallica stole all of the riffs Dave Mustaine wrote for them. Echoes was ripped off by what's his nuts, the dude that wrote Phantom of the Opera. If you're gonna hate on Zeppelin for that, you gotta hate on these bands for the same exact thing, otherwise quit your bitching.
When I first started listening to Floyd, I was a Waters fan. As I’ve listened to more and more Floyd, I’ve definitely switched to being all in on Gilmour. Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason are very under appreciated. They definitely make my way into the Top 5 Floyd Albums 5. The Wall 4. Wish You Were Here 3. Division Bell 2. DSOTM 1. Animals
I'd put Wish You Were Here one space below, but otherwise I agree. If I'm tripping, dogs, pigs and sheep are the way to go. But if I'm just trying to enjoy, DSTOM is my choice. Also, man, one of the most important things things for me is the guitars and the hammond organs, not so much the lyrics. I do like Water's work, I love it, but not as much as Gilmour and Wrights'.
Bogdanmeoff pigs on the wings are not supposed to be climactic in any way. The real climax of the album is the ending to Sheep. “Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream” signifies the uprising of the sheep, followed by that kick ass riff after. Pigs on the wing just act as very innocent pieces to differentiate from the bleakness of the rest of the album
For me, Animals is #2, while The Wall is #1. From what I’ve listened to so far, Division Bell is okay, but it isn’t anywhere nearly as powerful or as passionate as The Wall or Animals.
My personal list: 14. Ummagumma 13. The Endless River 12. The Final Cut 11. The Division Bell 10. A Saucerful Of Secrets 9. The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn 8. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason 7. Obscured By Clouds 6. Atom Heart Mother 5. The Wall 4. Wish You Were Here 3. The Dark Side Of The Moon 2. Animals 1. Meddle
@@fizzpeak123 I adore echoes, but half that song is freaky noise. Like I said, Animals is such an amazing album with some of my favorite sounds from Pink Floyd, I just don't listen to it unless I know I can listen to the whole song all the way through.
I'm a big fan of the Endless River honestly. I'm a sucker for instrumentals, but it is a sequel to the Division Bell, and takes a lot from it. I prefer Talkin Hawkin over Why Won't You Talk To Me though. The Gilmour stuff has a different feel to it than the Waters stuff, which doesn't work for a lot of people. Personally though, I think the Barrett era was the strongest overall. It's just pure psychedelia, and I love it. I still think Dark Side is best though. Probably.
Momentary Lapse of Reason is a solid album. I love most of the album: Learning to Fly, Dogs of War, On The Turning Away, Sorrow, One Slip are all incredible songs. I would have it in the top 5 or 6 Pink Floyd albums.
Despite an army of hired guns to write the lyrics, Roger's absence is painfully apparent. No concept, no poetry, no depth. What I don't understand is Gilmour's solo LP, About Face, presumably written by him, had some good songs w- good lyrics.
“fanaticism” He said his favourite is Roger Waters. He didn’t say he worshiped Waters and thought that all the pink floyd songs without him are terrible.
Great list, young man. The Wall was my introduction to Floyd when it was new when I was 11, been a fan ever since. Great to see a young guy like you appreciate the classics.
nasachusetts thank you! The Wall is an outstanding album overall but there’s so much useless filler. Roger was a great songwriter sometimes but The Final Cut is a good example of what happens when he’s given too much input.
@@zackzallie8735 WYWH > Animals > Meddle > TDSOTM > The Wall Edit: I might've confused people using this format but this is my ranking 1. WYWH 2. Animals 3. Meddle 4. The Wall 5. DSotM
Wish You Were Here is my favorite Pink Floyd album. When I first heard it my mind was blown, the switch from Have a Cigar to WYWH was so amazing. When I bought it for myself, I was in a really dark place, I had been stood up on a date and I was really sad about it, since I hadn't been on a date in a long time. I went home and instantly listened to it and nearly cried. I wished that she was there, and she wasn't. It holds a really close place to my heart, and I love it so much.
@Thorne unless your clothing is purely functional, you wear it to represent yourself. If all you wear are band t-shirts and just whatever pants that probably means you like music and dont care about fashion. If you can often be found wearing chinos in muted colors with Shirts or Polo Shirts that probably means you want to appear orderly and serious, yet approachable. I could make a huge list like this but I just wanted examples. Caring about what other people wear isn't 'being a pleb', its judging how they present themselves and well, if you wear a band shirt of a band you actually barely know it shows youre pretentious and if that shirt is a ripoff with the wrong lyrics slapped on it, that means that person is willingly presenting themselves as pretentious and maybe a bit stupid. I fed the troll didn't I...
In the album The Dark Side Of The Moon, the album starts with a melow heart bit and in the end of the album, ends with that heart bit fading away, reminding the listener how he was feeling before he started listening to the album and how he is feeling now. Absolutely the best Pink Floyd album ever created, one of my favourite albums out there.
_The Wall_ is my favourite Floyd album, it’s such an incredible story and it’s just so goddamn immersive. And I do honestly agree with you about The Trial, that song is just a massive clusterfuck it’s amazing
Andrew, it may be good, I've listened to it often many years ago as a teenager, but as you get older, you'll find that it is not what it used to be. Definitely can not listen to with your girl or wife, unless you don't care whether she likes it or not and you subject here to it.
One day I decided to make my personal ranking of PinkFloyd songs, so I first listened to Confortably Numb which I immediately put in first place, then I listened to Wish you were here and I put it instead of ConfortablyNumb at first place, then I listened to ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond so I decided to put HIM in first place... It lasted for hours and in the end I listened to ConfortablyNumb again... and I I put it back in the first place. This is an impossible task for me.
Dude, you're probably a third my age, but you know my favourite band better than I do. I'd only ever even listened to The Wall, Moon, Animals, Wish, and like, Astronomy Domine. I mean, back in the day, we could only afford so many albums so we prioritised, and then it's like, other things come up in one's life. But I could tell from the first minute that you know your stuff, so I took all your song recomendations and have been introduced to a World of Pink I never knew. Thank you so much.
As soon as you said Roger was your favourite band member I saw the number 1 spot coming a mile away. Great list though! The order for the top 5 is incredibly difficult.
The Division bell was to be their last album. Then however, Rick parted in 2014 and The endless river was released as a farewell to him as it was the last material he recorded with them. By the way the name Endless river refers to Ricks passion of sailing. Also if you leave out More, you should also leave out Obscured by clouds, as it is a soundtrack as well. Also also, The Final cut was supposed to be The Wall vol.3. I disagree with you in some points but nice video.

So whoever reading this, if you HAVEN'T seen 'Echoes live at Pompeii' by pink Floyd, do yourself a favor and watch it all, it's an absolute masterpiece and very arguably the best song they made.

I thought the endless river was Gilmours way of showing how much he misses his friend Rick. Its actually very sad.
@steven Brunton I don't think he's particularly worried about money given that he just sold all his guitars for charity.

On the wall you can hear in the end of the song "outside the wall"(the last song of the album) someone saying "isn't this where" and in the song "in the flesh?"(first song of the album) you can hear right in the beginning "we came in?" I definitely agree with The Wall being #1 in terms of the concept and execution of the whole album altogether, however I am torn between DSOTM and Wish You Were Here in terms of how strong the individual songs are.
You just took the words from my mouth, wise man

Also, man, one of the most important things things for me is the guitars and the hammond organs, not so much the lyrics. I do like Water's work, I love it, but not as much as Gilmour and Wrights'.
I never got the hype for animals. I love the album but like people get really mad if you don’t put it in #1 xD

Ikr, and gated reverb is amazing... Just because something is used a lot doesn't make it bad... gatedreverbkeeper much
Despite an army of hired guns to write the lyrics, Roger's absence is painfully apparent. No concept, no poetry, no depth. What I don't understand is Gilmour's solo LP, About Face, presumably written by him, had some good songs w- good lyrics.
I agree with the dated production stuff, so 80s... but damn, the solo on "on the turning away" is sooooo good, i can easely forgive.
@@Inoxx31 the live version from delicate sound is my favorite solo of all time (I think) lol
How are Pink Floyd and Princess Diana alike?

The Wall was their last big hit
OOOOOOOOOOOF
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
They were both all over the radio too
Ahaha
Diana didnt died in an accident where her car crash under a truck??
The Division Bell just ok? Don’t let your Rogers fanaticism blind you! SMH
“fanaticism” He said his favourite is Roger Waters. He didn’t say he worshiped Waters and thought that all the pink floyd songs without him are terrible.
I though the same Minimal Red:)
a saucerful of secrets is THE MOST underrated album in history
ilgin topal meh.
That kazoo is peak floyd
the title cut is definitely my favorite early floyd epic, up 'til AHM
Kesinlikle katılıyorum. 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun'

Great list, young man. The Wall was my introduction to Floyd when it was new when I was 11, been a fan ever since. Great to see a young guy like you appreciate the classics.
I’m 12 years old and Pink Floyd is my favorite band
Fearless from the album Meddle is probably my all time favorite Pink Floyd song.
Its way to much 70s rock for me. I like the songs on meddle but The wall, tdb and dsotm are much better sonically for me.
nasachusetts thank you! The Wall is an outstanding album overall but there’s so much useless filler. Roger was a great songwriter sometimes but The Final Cut is a good example of what happens when he’s given too much input.
Fearless has probably my favourite guitar riff of all time. It sounded warm and familiar from the first listen
Jake I love how it ends with a crowd singing FC Liverpool’s chant, “You’ll never walk alone.”
The whole meddle album is crazy on acid you've gotta try it.
Would you rate the word "awesome" as top 3 in your favorite words of all time?
Carl-Richard Løberg your comment is awesome
Putting The Wall above WYWH and Animals:
Haha, charade you are.
Sauhard Jain the wall is the best pf album
The Wall is amazing, it’s my favorite album of all time, Animals a close second, and DSOTM on third
Animals > WYWH > TDSOTM > The Wall > Meddle
@@zackzallie8735 WYWH > Animals > Meddle > TDSOTM > The Wall
Edit: I might've confused people using this format but this is my ranking
1. WYWH
2. Animals
3. Meddle
4. The Wall
5. DSotM
Sauhard Jain wall is better then wywh but you were right about the other part
For me, the best album is Wish you where here. Shine on you crazy Diamond just gives me a reason to live.
Well said!
SOYCD and Time will never be topped for me
SOYCD is about syd barrett, the original leader of PF, if you like it you should listen to the man it was about
Wish You Were Here is my favorite Pink Floyd album.
It's certainly the best post Syd album.
"Syd was the most interesting but Roger is a hero" - quote from my Chemistry Teacher
My chemistry teacher loved Pink Floyd....
It's always the chemistry teachers
@@davisfamilykids yeah...wonder why the chemistry teachers, right?
XD
Modsounds 80 yeah sorry but we all know David is the best
I saw a sorority girl last month wearing a spring formal shirt that was a rip-off of the dark side of the moon album art and it kind of ruined my day.
I hate it when folks stick the wall lyrics with the DSOTM logo.
Why bother caring about what other people wear
Sweetheart.....you could have kept that to yourself.....it's about THE MUSIC on this post....
gatekeeping... pathetic
I believe "the division bell" should be way higher
100% agreed
Waaaay Higher. This album is incredibly underrated
I absolutely love the division bell and it should be higher
No lie David really killed it on that album and it personally ranks in my top 3 favorite Pink Floyd album.
Yes, it’s good

Rick died in 2008...
Richard Wright died in 2008 though
Correct, my mistake
I heard that it was a reference to the line “The endless river” in High Hopes
"One album that I'm gonna exclude on this list is the More album, because it's technically a film soundtrack and it's not technically a studio album."
*includes Obscured by Clouds, a film soundtrack*
*includes "The Wall",a film soundtrack*
