  • Demonstrating how to make a net and build a baited spring net trap that can be used to catch a range of animals and birds.
    I think net making is a great skill to have and has many uses such as... Fishing nets, Catch poles, Hammocks, bags and net traps alike.
    A bonus of a net trap is that usually, its a live catch trap.
    If you catch a critter that your not interested in? It gives you the option to release it!?
    I hope you enjoy my video

    The best net making video and demonstration I've ever seen ... and have been waiting for this one since you mentioned it the other day Andy . No true survivor is knowledgeable without the knowledge of nets for traps and fishing .
    1000 thumbs up and thanks very much .

      :D What's the biggest animal you could catch with a net of that size? Could you nab a small deer? Big Rabbit? Honestly not sure what a net this size is supposed to target.

    • @ClanGunnBushcraft
      @ClanGunnBushcraft  6 лет назад +1

      Iv only ever caught wood pigeon in them. Their a fair sized bird tho.
      Make the net to the size of the critter your trying to catch.

    • @heckyes

      Ah cool. What do you use as bait for them?

    • @ClanGunnBushcraft
      @ClanGunnBushcraft  6 лет назад +2

      I used sliced pieces of corn on the cob.
      I'd push the trigger stick through the centre.
      Iv used the same bait to catch rabbits and squirrels to, just in a different type trap.
      Thanks bud

    It's a really nice trap. I'll need to try making one. And that's a nice quick way to make a net with having to carve a needle and gauge first. Thanks for filming, Andy

    • @ClanGunnBushcraft
      @ClanGunnBushcraft  6 лет назад

      Thanks Andy, let me know how it goes.
      Yeah, it's a much more simplified way to make nets.
      Years back, I use to make alot of purse nets for ferreting with the method of using a needle, gauge, spacer and steel hoops, but towards the end, just started making them like I did in this video. Basic is best in my opinion.
      Thanks for watching and take care buddy

    Well put together buddy, that’s a nice touch weaving around the edges of the net. Thanks for sharing the different methods for the spring. The question is should a ready made net like this be one of those essential carry items.

      It's a useful bit of kit.
      A few nights ago I made a 1m x 4m gill net. Minus the stones to weigh it down, it hardally weighs oat and compresses into my flask mug. I never store anything in there, so it doesn't take up any room. Could be cut down to make 8 traps if need be?
      Guna try and catch a fish with it at the weekend.

      I do catch kill cook but in the luxury of getting out to play I mostly release too. But rabbiting poke nets was my usual method or a fishing rod which is mostly what I do now again catch and release to native fish and eat seasonal migrant or invasive species.

      Awesome buddy... You'll never starve out in the wilderness when you can fish as well as yourself.
      That's it, I originally learnt how to make nets to build purse nets for rabbiting. Back in my ferreting days.
      I was born in Stranraer, but I've lived in Derbyshire since I was a kiddie. My main Yew tree camp is in Galloway forest and my newer camp from my survival shelter video is in Derbyshire.
