BIG NEWS: I have designed my own Survival Knife called “APO-1”. You can get it now at my online store: www.survivallilly.at/ Thank you so much for your support
Looks like the S-1 is working pretty good. Are you preping for the next Alone Show auditions? It would be awesome if you were on it. I think they need to add a more international flavor to the show and not have just contestants from N. America.
We've always poked about ten holes in a can of cheap dog food and used that for bait. It gives off a very good scent trail, and I've pulled up traps that were so full I couldn't lift them. Btw: you might have better luck if you Face the opening down stream, fish follow the scent trail upstream.. Love the channel.
Great video Lilly! I'm surprised you didn't catch any crawfish in your trap. Great work as always. I wish you could do a collaboration video with Babs Kijewski. That would be such fun to watch you two together.
Try cheese ... old cheese left out to spoil..... I bet you get a net full !!! Nice weir. Perhaps the "throat" was a bit small. But only you know the size of fish you're after..... as usual a superb video Lilly
Good job Lilly. Fish traps, like snares are a hit&miss proposition and so you need a number of traps just as you need a number of snares to better the odds. The nice thing about Fish traps is they are easily set, reusable and you can build permanent traps into a lake, stream bed, river or shoreline.
I with my brother wathch your films every weekend :) We are from Poland and you inspireate we to build next shelters. ;) My English is not good because I live in Poland.
What a fun project. I hope to go fishing with my daughters this summer, however this type of fish trap I think is illegal in my area of Colorado, USA. Thanks for posting.
Lily, long time fan here first time comment. Glad to hear your wrist is healing. The Entrance opening needs to be just barely big enough for the largest fish you're planning to catch. in this specific case it looks like maybe a much smaller entrance. good luck can you pause posted .thank you
Lilly; for some good bait...try using a small crawfish..claws removed. Works great! Also try taking a short piece of nylon stocking, put bait in center , tye the nylon above bait; roll material down over bait ; add string on and hang in the water....for catching crawfish! love your videos and comments;keep on truckin!
Lilly, fish generally feed upstream.....turn that absolutely beautifully crafted trap so the entrance side is facing downstream and that beauty outta work like a champ!....you are the best sweetie, keep it up!
Stop disabling comments please, if your worried about hate just know that we love your vids and support everything you do. We understand that you hunt for food not sport.
Lily you need to put some sort of barrier to guide the fish to the opening! you can use 3 sticks on each side stuck in the mud with several long sticks lashed to the sticks . You can use a couple of bigger rocks making the same thing ,something must funnel the fish to the opening! good job on making the trap though!
Hi, Lilly. I enjoy your videos very much. I subscribed to your channel a couple weeks ago. The other stick funnel fish traps that I have seen, which were successful, didn't make the trap so narrow at the bottom. . Some of the angler's had the basket end about 5 to six inches wide with an flat basket weave end cap permanently attached. Also, known of them used bait. The only baited traps I've seen were for crabbing and frogs. Something they didn't do was put the trap so close to rushing swirling water as you did. There traps were close enough to the bank or very near the bank also. They often caught small fish, minnows and worms to use as bait for larger fish. But the bait was visible, not hidden and just leaving a scent in the water. Seems to me that fish are attracted to shapes and flashes for than scent trails in the water. Maybe you can try foil shaped minnows or worms dangling in the trap. Also, if able to, cut the shapes out of your used food cans. Possibly make hook out of strips of used cans.. Just a thougt. I'm so sorry your traps didn't work out. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with your trap in future. God bless you. Have a great year ahead. Hugs, Linda Lee
Please do a follow up video if you catch fish using this method. It is a great method for those of us who don't like to sit around with a fishing pole in our hands, but like to catch fish. Around where I live, poke poling is the instant method, but needs two people. I actually don't think using a trap here would be legal but in a survival situation, anything goes. Good to see you back in action.
Thanks for sharing this honest video, the result of your fishery is the most likely to happen in a survival situation. This needs to be told to beginners, surviving in the wild is not easy, And that is a fact. :)
Lilly, I use a one-stroke method of cutting saplings, etc. I bend the sapling down toward the ground with my left hand as far as I can so that I am looking at the top of the "U" that is under tension. With my knife in my right hand I hold the knife parallel with the ground about a foot above the "U". Then I hit the "U" with the knife with a sharp blow. I pretend that I am driving the knife clean through the sapling. As the sapling is cut the tension is released and snaps the sapling free.
Lilly; great construction video... fishing is half skills with gadgets and half is to make the fish go for the bait, many times they just don`t eat but want a place to hide so the trap needs to be in the dark, covered as a shelter, bait has to be visual tempting ,not only by smell... good lesson here is to be persistence and keep trying nevertheless... I will tell you my story when I was a kid fishing cray fish.. , we would catch crayfish in some streams by simply tie a small piece (3cmx3cm) of RAW bacon or chicken skin tied to a end of a string and let it sit for few minutes after casting to the center of stream or small pool (some times water was murky so we could not even see them but still tried because we have seen them before in there)) , then start pulling it out slowly while we can see cray fish had their pincher/hands grabbing the bait and did not want to let go while eating it, so after pulling him out close to the shallows, then a quick hard jerk up of the line (it was just a cotton line) we would in one pull make him fly out of the water on to dry ground because they never let go ,( making sure not to move too fast or they will let goof the bait if they see your shadows or movements).... fun , funny but my friends and me got half a pot by "fishing "them out of the water then taking them to the house and boil them, great fun memories taught me that!... I have never had the chance to try that again but it did work for us 80% of the time ! .. try that for just fun and see if that worked for you! cheers Lilly, thank you.
Hi Lilly , I have both knives and haven't noticed much difference...I do like the softer handles on the Cold Steel, for and average knife the SRK has held up nicely....Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and hope your hand is better
You need to use more bait, Roadkill works a treat! I usually just use some fishing line and a hook with some red meat. Then I tie the line off to a small tree or a branch and it acts as a fishing pole. Cool vid though Lily I love em!
wear tall socks, fasten pant legs around the tops of your boots and check yourself each night by running your fingers through your hair and use a mirror to check your back, neck and face. hope this helps!
Using pine and spruce tree material for bedding. Some say if you take ant-mound material and rub it over your skin it helps as an insect replant (note that ants secrete a week acid).
It seems to me that ticks like pine. I've spent a fairly great amount of time in woods and I usually get ticks in a pine wooded area. Although I will say I've never used pine material for bedding. Usually leaves mounded up and a sleeping bag on the pile. I've never heard about ant mound, but will give it a shot! Have you tried it?
woody2327 Hey! Can't say for your area, but here in Slovenia I have never got a tick in "needle tree forest" be it pine, spruce... so in my experience here I stand by what I said. Grass areas, and mix forests are different though. I have tried the bedding under a sleeping bag in early spring, summer and fall and I think it's cause of the sap. I have spent a fair amount of time in the woods camping and hiking scouting and on my own. And I have tried the ant thing and can't say for sure but I had no tick or other insect bites that time so I think it might help a little bit.
I think turning the entrance cone of the fish trap to face down stream will make it easier for the fish to enter. They will be following the scent trail in the water and will enter the entrance cone as they follow the scent trail. That is the method I have always used in the past. seemed to work then.
Hi Lilly, my husband is a bush craft master. He says you made a great fish trap. However, having been trapping fish most of his life he says you need to put the entrance down stream. The odor of the bait flows downstream and lures the fish to come for the bait. Fish will not swim up stream and then back down stream to get the bait. I know it seems logical to put the wide end upstream but he has been doing this type of trapping since he was about 10. Also he suggest hanging the bait in the trap and using rotten meat, that helps the sent spread in the water better. While he may be wise in bush lore I am afraid his internet skills are very limited LOL Give it a try and see if this helps.

In his village in the old country grandpa used to take off his pants, tie the legs closed, and dunk it in a fast brook. Instant dinner.

Love the channel.
Wraith Leader: or a can of catfood w/holes punched through the can.
There's also the fact that only dead fish swim downstream. So yeah, the trap was facing the wrong direction.
While watching the vid, I was wondering if the direction the trap was facing played a role in it.
Thanks Wraith!
lol good one PaganShredhead
@@PaganShredhead thanks for that information, I'm planning to weave it tomorrow, I'll consider what you said when placing it in creek.
hi you are the best
Great video Lilly! I'm surprised you didn't catch any crawfish in your trap. Great work as always. I wish you could do a collaboration video with Babs Kijewski. That would be such fun to watch you two together.

So happy you have recovered well from your hand injury. Welcome back to survival :D
I'm glad that you show that when it comes to survival things don't always work the way you want them to. Sometimes you just have to be patient.
That was one cool looking trap!!
Lilly you are such a special gift to us all. thanks so much for everything you give us.
Remind me to keep a lily in my pocket when i get stuck in the bush 😆 awesome vid

Amazing job Lilly. Looks so professionaly done.
Lilly this is genius! Well done!
Great video Lilly!
You're right, that turned out pretty beautiful. I don't know if I would have dipped it in the water. :)
And using bark is a smart idea I've never thought of that good job survival Lilly
Cool I've always wanted to know how to do that other than a wall the fish go over but can't get back out I'm sure this video will help
I think you are awesome. Miss the nature and her sounds, so beautiful...
very beautiful trap.
Very nice awesome crafting

Great Job Lilly..Your wrist look like it's working perfectly as before.

Beautiful job on the trap!
Coole Technik(en)! Besten Dank und Frohe Ostern, Sepp
Lemme just go harvest some bamboo on the block.
Nope, gunfire. Popeye's it is.
I am waiting for someone to do an "Urban Survival" series similar to these videos.
Nice job on the fish trap!
my daughter is 4 and she and i both love watching ypur videos together. she likes that you do things like us
Thank you for showing us how to make it I know from watching other videos that they have worked in the past.

you can use 3 sticks on each side stuck in the mud with several long sticks lashed to the sticks .
You can use a couple of bigger rocks making the same thing ,something must funnel the fish to the opening! good job on making the trap though!
I think fishes usually swim opposite to the current. Try changing the direction. Nice video :)
Nice fish trap Lilly....a lot easier weaving that willow bark than vine. I enjoyed the video!
I enjoy that you show how you may improve your traps, or adapt from set backs you have. Continue the great work!
Wow the new cameras are great!
today i learned that THERE IS A SEASON FOR CRAWFISH!! Who'd a-thunk it! Lily, you surprise me every time :)
Love the videos keep them coming and is your wrist all better
A net would be a very good thing to have for sure Lilly ... I think the larger hole would be better .. Nice job on the fish trap Lilly ...
I love the look of that trap you made and you must have caught some fish later on using it.
Hi, Lilly. I enjoy your videos very much. I subscribed to your channel a couple weeks ago.

Looks like a 1,000 year old eel trap. Loved it.
a beautiful trap in only hours! i'd take me five days......you rock Lilly......
you never cease to amaze me; awesome fish trap--uncooperative fishes! ;)
It is the best such trap I have seen anyone make. Bravo! Good job.
That fish trap is pretty cool
So relaxing to watch
Thanks for sharing this honest video, the result of your fishery is the most likely to happen in a survival situation. This needs to be told to beginners, surviving in the wild is not easy, And that is a fact. :)
Thanks Lilly. Don't get discouraged optimism is still an important tool Brian 76
Best line ever : ,, I didn't catch any but I think it works. '' 👍
Another really cool video!
Thanks Lilly!
Hey Lily from your Canadian fan. Keep trying, the trap looks great. Always look forward to your videos. You are an amazing person :)
I don't care if it catches anything, that trap is a true work of art!

GREAT JOB; WELL DONE.
Looks great Lilly. Fish fry an Lilly's tonight. Some one alert the beer gnomes.
Very nice fish trap beautiful...love your smile 😉
Wieder eine gute Idee von Dir! ;)
Nice trap, might try some netting to hold your bait and dangle it from from the structure about a inch so it is floating in the water. Happy Easter!
Love d sincerity... Admitting dat u didn't catch any fish unlike many vloggers....
Good luck in d future
Nice job girl! I can't wait to try making my own!
Great video Lilly trap looks great and good luck on catching some fish :)
It really is pleasant watching your videos Lilly.
You have great perseverance!
Great video and thanks. The mouth of the fish trap should be facing the down stream side though.

can you do a video on tick prevention
wear tall socks, fasten pant legs around the tops of your boots and check yourself each night by running your fingers through your hair and use a mirror to check your back, neck and face. hope this helps!
coconut oil is pretty god.

It’s admiral of you to show projects that don’t work out, Lilly.
great job Lilly!!
You and fish just don't get along ;) But you try and that's the important thing. That trap looks great - you do wonderful work.
I think turning the entrance cone of the fish trap to face down stream will make it easier for the fish to enter. ok cool, thanks Carolyn :)
I agree, the fish will swim upstream so put entrance down stream and have the entrance a little bigger to catch bigger fish
Hi from Puerto Rico. Thanks for being honest. Try leaving it overnight with burned coconut as bait. Crayfish love it.
wow your will to build that awsome trap and that gorgeous smile at end with no fish love you keep it up.:)
