44-Year-Old Kevin Willis (6pts) vs. Jazz (2007)

  • One of the five games a 44-year-old Kevin Willis played for the Dallas Mavericks, making him the oldest player in the NBA to play more than two games (coach Nat Hickey got on the court for two games back in 1948 at the age of 45). Despite looking a bit stiff when running down the court and being twice as old as guys like Paul Millsap, Willis actually looks quite spry here. He was useful on defense (whenever he wasn't tying his shoe in the middle of action), was able to switch on Deron Williams and stay in front of him and also scored twice in the post against Jarron Collins. Not too shabby for a guy who turned 45 that September and had made his NBA debut in 1984. April 13, 2007.

      I find it funny how when he first played in the NBA the Lakers were a dynasty and when he retired the Lakers were again a dynasty.

    The fact that a dude who’s older than Michael Jordan was playing in the NBA as late as 2007 when LeBron was reaching his first NBA Finals is mind blowing to me

    That is honestly amazing, dude played from 1984 to 2005 then came back in 2007. My Dad was 13 when he started playing and I was 6 when he retired and my dad was 36. That’s just amazing.

      I agree, he is playing at 44 like a rookie trying to prove he is worthy. In his prime he had a 18 points 15 rebounds averages. We remember him mostly being old so we don't know that he is actually quite a beast!
      Mad respect for the love of the game he shows.

    Players retire due to their bodies being beat up, and reliability issues, not so much as in age. It just so happens that the age and health go hand and hand 99% of the time.
    Expect Lebron to retire at 45-46 also.

    Isnt he technically the only player ever to play in a 23rd year between the draft class and the year he played this game? I know he played 21 seasons but 2007 minus 1984 and I’m pretty sure its the 23rd year

    • @ThePrescriber
      @ThePrescriber 4 месяца назад +1

      He did retire in 2006 for a bit. Then returned for the 07 season, other than that it would technically be 23 seasons.
