Dennis Rodman (16pts/32rebs) vs. Hornets (1992)

  • Scoring the ball is the thing that prevents Rodman from being on the lists where double doubles or any other achievements that include points are the stat in question. However, the 16 points from this night at the Charlotte Coliseum allow him to be one of the seven people who have had a 15-point/30-rebound game since 1983-84, per Basketball-Reference (Kevin Willis is the only player with two such performances). At this point it was Rodman's first 30-rebound game, though, he later recorded four more and set a new career-high of 34 rebounds in a game against the Indiana Pacers.
Even though not every single rebound is included in the compilation, some of the seemingly easy grabs are interesting to look at because of the way Rodman hunts them down. He definitely had a habit of leaving his man early to secure that additional rebound. Yet that doesn't take away from the fact that he would have ten other rebounds where he won improbable battles against larger human beings with irrepressible effort and that fantastic re-jumpability of his. The outlet passes he throws and the fast breaks he leads after his rebounds are also invaluable. Obviously, there also had to be a shoving match of some sort. January 28, 1992.

    So unique
It requires so much energy and dedication to fight for positions under the basket. And obviously even more when you are undersized! My god he was going for every miss.

He had a good shoot but was not into scoring, he used it only when his team needed it. He s got one of the best basket ball IQ, his passing skill is always underestimate but in this bulls time, look how many assist he gave for a fast break just after a defensive rebound. So many little thing that make him the greatest power forward.

At the Palace, one fan had a "Rodman's Rebounds" banner and would hang an R each time he got one. In this season, that string of R's would go on and on and on. Rodman was special.
