Not really. A big shot in that game. It didn't force a game 7 or clinch a title. It wasn't the first finals win for the franchise or anything like that.
Thank God he hit that three. Had this series NOT gone 5 games, my buddy and his then fiancee would have seen the sweep of the Lakers with the Game 4 tickets I gifted the couple with, and the clinching of the title in person. Despite the shooting woes Kobe faced in this series, he is one Heck of a player whom I respect greatly. Many, if not most, criticise Kobe for not sharing the ball with Shaq more. Truth of the matter is Shaq was getting worn down, even though his point and rebound totals were absolutely amazing. Make no mistake, this was a great Laker team that had quite a bit of heart, and played very hard during the entirety of the playoffs. Their rather pedestrian 56-26 regular season was not indicative of how good this team really was; championship teams know how to 'budget' their strengths for the playoffs. This being said, the Pistons may or may not have 'snuck up' on the Lakers, but they played a Heck of a previous series with the Pacers to help tune them up for this showdown and ultimately, the 2004 title. I think that gets overlooked as far as how the Pistons grew during these playoffs an route to the title. In summation, ones can blame players, factors, and intangibles for how the series went the way it did, but the way a fan should see it is it was a historic upset by the Pistons over a great Lakers team.
@TJ Martin you bragging about a big shot that don't win a game in a title game?? jordan wouldn't of went out like that in the finals... that's why he the greatest.
You guys said Kobe lost this series by shooting 38% from the field but y'all never actually WATCH these games, you just looked at the highlights and box scores. Even there are silly people that think "Kobe lost this series for them" . Can someone answer this curiosity?: Kobe shot his MOST attempts in the series (27 in this game) in the single game the Lakers managed to WIN (this one). Kobe shot his LEAST attempts in the series (Game 3, 13 attempts, less than Shaq) in the game the Lakers lose by their BIGGEST MARGIN (20 points). Truth is, Phil Jackson lost this series by failing to adapt to the Pistons' defense. He stubbornly stuck with Malone/Payton in the starting lineup despite the fact that none of them could make the Pistons' pay for overplaying Shaq like they did. It wasn't that Kobe didn't WANT to give Shaq the ball, it's that the Pistons wisely doubled Shaq BEFORE the entry pass, leaving Kobe no options but to play iso basketball against one of the best defenses we've ever seen. A lack of SPACING was the reason the Lakers lost this series. The Lakers sorely needed a stretch 4 and better perimeter shooting from the 1-3 spots. A smarter approach would have been to move Fisher into the Starting Lineup, Payton to SG, Kobe to SF, and even Devean George to PF. This way, if they doubled Shaq in the manner they did, they would have paid by giving up more shots to more CAPABLE shooters. It's no surprise, to people that know basketball from a schematics standpoint, that Fisher was the Lakers' 3rd leading scorer in this series despite averaging almost 15 minutes less than Gary Payton, the guy he was backing up. He was one of the few, next to Kobe, that could make them pay for over-playing Shaq. Shaq's FG% was indicative of the times we were actually ABLE to get him the ball in position, but that was a rarity with the kind of Zone Defense/Off-Ball doubling the Pistons played. You CANNOT break this kind of defense without great shooting on the perimeter. It is beyond me why Phil didn't see this and didn't adapt. Perhaps he felt changing the lineup this way meant the Lakers couldn't defend inside. Truth be told, they had a better chance of beating this team with the '02 Laker lineup, which featured a still effective Rick Fox at the 3, Robert Horry at the 4, and Fisher at the 1. That trio was a MUCH better complement to Shaq/Kobe's inside game than the Malone/George/Payton trio. Kobe's FG% is indicative of how he was the only other option to break the defense down, since there was an extreme lack of perimeter shooting. But playing ISO basketball against such a disciplined defense does not yield much success. The guys around you have to be able to make them pay for collapsing, whether on Kobe or on Shaq. That didn't happen, and it wasn't because Kobe was being selfish. It was because he was the only option given how they would take away Shaq before he even caught the ball. Watch the games next time kids. Box Scores are for nerds. They should serve as a complement to what you SEE, not as the ONLY thing you see.

This series will FOREVER baffle me. The drama that surrounded the team all season long, beginning with the hype around the addition of Karl Malone and Gary Payton to Kobe's off-court trial issues to the tension between Shaq and Kobe. With all of that going on they still get through a tough Western Conference to just let it go at the end vs an inferior Pistons team. Credit to them for winning but this Lakers team should have handled them easily.
I will never get over this finals loss. The 08 series I could stomach that was a all time great Celtic team. But this Lakers team should've beaten this team in at most 5 games smh.
I know this old, but this is a dumb comment. I'm a die hard Lakers fan & been one since I was a child, but that Pistons team was one of best defenses of all time. They definitely weren't a pushover team. Plus Kobe & Shaq were beefing during this time, so that definitely didn't help the situation.

It’s a shame that Kobe and Shaq relationship was in absolute shambles during this you could tell exactly why the pistons won the series they played as a team while Kobe and Shaq were ego checking each other
They’re so call feud wasn’t the reason they lost! They lost because Detroit was a deeper and more athletic team! The Lakers only had 2 players especially with Malone hobbling on an injured leg. Walton got destroyed on the defensive end as Payton and Shaw did. Lakers bench got demolished! The best team won the pistons wore them down!
@@lennybeason1110 The feud literally is the only reason that pistons Squad got a ring. Kobe decided he would rather lose this Championship than win it if it means Shaq gets Finals MVP again. No one and I mean no one who's a hardened basketball / NBA fan takes this Pistons ring seriously.
That was supposed to be a momentum changer bring them up in the series and potentially gentleman sweep them yet for some reason that wasn’t the case, the chemistry and aggressiveness from other players changed.
Jesus, Shaq looks so out of shape, slow, and sluggish in these games. The whole team just seems to be somewhat out of it and divided. Kobe also looks way thinner in this season than he does in any other season besides maybe his rookie year. Kobe’s desire and intensity, especially given what he was going through in his personal life during this time is pretty incredible.

Like I have never seen this intensity in Lebron or other players. Sets Kobe apart from all, just look at this guy
Yep, amazing bricks by Kobe. Shots 33% in this series without Game 2. Otherworldly stuff.
James Brown Maybe set aside the stats for once and look at the IMPACT the player has in the game???
Tom P Kobe: Zero playoff series wins without a HOF big man
LeBron: Made it to the NBA Finals without another All Star
He had a 3-1 lead against the 2nd seed Suns, he carried a d-league team. LeBron on the other hand had a decent team, and played in a weaker Eastern Conference. I think it was LeBron who also lost to an old Spurs team in the 2014 finals with Wade and Bosh on his team. Gasol isn't an all-star in my opinion.
+Da Ga Kobe blew a 3-1 lead, enough said
"that shot felt good i should have made it" thats kobe for you
Amazing quality, thanks man.
I can't believe kobe is gone 💔
Kobe would’ve been goat if not for this finals loss
nice HD quality video for something back i 04.
Wis Dom
alright smart fuck, how me another nba clip from 2004 that has great quality like this
Amazing game!!
The only game they called fouls on the Pistons hitting Kobe's arms during his shots, smh.
Right
With the rape accusation the NBA did not want Kobe to do good
Phil got out-coached so bad this series. So much drama in LA this season.
First ever 5 game sweep. Rip kobe
Ima Die Hard Laker Kobe & Magic My Favorites Players Of All Time. But Kobe Stunk this Finals most Def his worst finals.
Mega Tron he was injured
Kobe did his thing lakers didn’t
@@castlewoods4753 LMAOOOOOOOO kobe averaged 22 ppg on 36% from the field
SHAQ AVERAGED 26 on 63% WHILE KOBRICK WAS HOGGING TO NOT LET HIM GET FMVP
shaq > Kobe 2004 kobe sabotaged
kobes missed shots were more than shaq's attempts phil jackson was about to kill kobe if it wasnt for his discipline kobe deserved fmvp for SINGLE HANDEDLY CARRYING DETROIT TO THE RING
9:28 Phil knew it before going in
Kobe said this was his most clutch shot ever. Ripmamba
Nah. The 06 playoff vs suns game 4
It would have been a sweep if Kobe didn't hit that shot!
It would’ve been like 1989
Truly #RIPKobe 💜💛
this Pistons team is lucky they never went up vs the 2008-2009 Lakers or they would had loss and that a faxt
Naw. Pistons would've swept them.
no they would not dxburner222
+Franklin Clinton lol what the fuck kind of logic is this? oh 08-09 lakers lucky they never went up against the 95-96 bulls or they would had loss and that a faxt
Justin Aviles hello Phil Jackson was the head coach of both team so it can't happen
Kobe got shut down the whole series except game 2.... and pau is a downgrade from shaq... pistons sweep
Didn't matter, That Pistons team was unstoppable
But what when a young prime team like spurs huh
The pistons were so good that Kobe & Shaq gave you a classic game and the game still went into OVERTIME
I always say this & imma say it again, adding malone & payton was the lakers biggest mistake ever, we made this same mistake years later by adding dwight & nash....im glad magic & pelinka are here
Last two game left 😭my hero
This series will FOREVER baffle me. The drama that surrounded the team all season long, beginning with the hype around the addition of Karl Malone and Gary Payton to Kobe's off-court trial issues to the tension between Shaq and Kobe. With all of that going on they still get through a tough Western Conference to just let it go at the end vs an inferior Pistons team. Credit to them for winning but this Lakers team should have handled them easily.
Kobe the real deal
phil jacksons expression after was just as stone cold as kobes shot
rip goat
this is the series where Lakers front office realized they didn't need Shaq anymore!
Pistons might won the series but Kobe was able to win another two. Difference of a one hit wonder and a multiple destined champion.
8:21 that's exactly what they needed
Kobe Bryant was the best player ever in history
Phil was so excited
I'm a Kobe fan too, but the Pistons put it on him this series! Just give credit where it is due, and stop making excuses
Bitch I look good ! Still should have beat this pistons team. Kobe just couldn’t stop shooting dumb shots
@@bitchilookgood5911 kobe was beefing himself* shaq literally did nothing on court to kobe
kobe was constantly hogging TO NOT LET SHAQ GET FMVP
kobe ruined the chance to get a ring and tie with mj for a puny fmvp what a disappointment
Last minute sharp Sniper kobe Bryant
I remember this like it was yesterday. As a Lakers fan I was actually happy we lost. Too many people here in So Cal were getting arrogant. Pistons earned it. And this was a good example of what happens when you have to many superstars that cant play as a team.
KOBE!
iconic series and yes I'm a lakers fan
Kobe after the mini-fro, but before he shaved his head. Looks weird.
@ 2:57 Hamilton was really about to clock the ref with the ball lmaooooo
kobe brayant he whats a one man show..
Big Ben had a great series
5:09 That move is so clean jeeeeez…
That was supposed to be a momentum changer bring them up in the series and potentially gentleman sweep them yet for some reason that wasn’t the case, the chemistry and aggressiveness from other players changed.
Jesus, Shaq looks so out of shape, slow, and sluggish in these games. The whole team just seems to be somewhat out of it and divided. Kobe also looks way thinner in this season than he does in any other season besides maybe his rookie year. Kobe’s desire and intensity, especially given what he was going through in his personal life during this time is pretty incredible.
its so funny to see when kobe hit the shot, the coaching staff look so calm
Can you upload the whole game or give a link to download ??!!
If Shaq and Kobe got along the Lakers would won this chip
Rip and Kobe used to play each other in high school. I'm not sure when but both ballers went to Pennsylvania schools
Kobe was the only laker to be on top during 2004 final. Legend
He wasn’t he sabotaged The finals it was almost like he didn’t even care about winning he just wanted to finals MVP he sabotaged by jacking up the worst shots ever sorry but it’s true and if he passed the ball to Shaq more they would’ve won.
Rip Hamilton was smooth
Do you have Gm4 of the 2004 WCSF against the Spurs in the same quality ??
I already uploaded that game but it wasn't available in this quality.
If we had won this chip, he would have gotten his Finals MVP he so much craved, at that time.
Shaq averaged 30 in that series Shaq would’ve won it yet again
people dont realize that the pistons have 5 young all stars in their team..while the lakerss have 2 old star,a not so young shaq, and a kobe with a court problem..so it wasnt really an upset..it shoould be the other way around if the lakeers won..
mcfly .hur helll nooo you talking about a team who won 3 of the last 4 finals with 2 players on the top 5 in the nba you have also home court and the best coach ever and you almost get sweept by a pistons team who is not that great , i am sorry but if you can beat the spurs in 6 games , you have to beat the pistons
kobe24 Sans Mevedenko
@@kobe24sans12 2001 lakers would beat this team
Where can i download this full match?
If u can’t rise up to the pressure u shouldn’t be playing Lmfaoo Kobe stay throwing shots dam I miss u big dawg I love you RIP KOBE BEAN BRYANT
Lakers needed this Kob to have a chance
bro THE LAKERS WOULDVE WON WITHOUT KOBE shaq AVERAGED MORE POINTS DESPITE HIS ATTEMPTS WERE LESS THAN KOBES MISSED SHOTS LMAOOOOOOOOO
shaq owned ben wallace the media just tried to crap on him
if kobe shut his ego and gave shaq the ball lakers in 5 with or without kobe kobe shouldve just traded himself he was a pointless sman here shitting on this own team
This series is on phil
