2000 Western Conference Finals Game 7, June 4, 2000 | 21-year old Kobe Bryant leads the historic Laker comeback against the Portland Trail Blazers in the deciding game of the 2000 Western Conference Finals. Things were looking bleak for the Lakers as the Blazers were firing on all cylinders while keeping the MVP Shaquille O'Neal in check with double and triple-teams. After falling behind by as many as 16 points and down 15 early in the 4th quarter, the Lakers mounted a comeback for the ages. Kobe led the charge with a team high 25 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out 7 assists and blocking 4 shots. The Lakers dominated the 4th quarter, out-scoring Portland 31-13 and clinching their first Finals appearance since 1991.

Why does nobody talk about this game? This was low-key Kobe's most clutch performance... He started the comeback.. and ran the offense for the last 3 possessions in crunch time.. you literally can see when glenn rice gets the rebound Kobe asking for it and Brian Shaw motioning to let Kobe have it. At 21... wow.

I suspect because it was 20 years ago. Nonetheless it’s probably my favorite of the Shaq and Kobe Lakers. Just an unreal performance by Kobe Bryant. It was the game that let the league know this 21 year old wasn’t falling off.

@@ColtranesOffspring45 yea it’s because of sports analyst. The game changed from curry and the warriors to more perimeter shooters and eliminating long 2s. The game was played drastically different can just loot at 3 point attempts and 3pt field goals made and how the spacing is way larger on the floor. But Kobe was probably the most skilled out of any player and is def underrated his 3peat with Shaq and his back to back finals mvps

What people use to discount Kobe’s rings with Shaq is that Shaq won the finals MVP’s. What they don’t realize is that the Western Conference finals was the real NBA finals. Kobe clearly owned the West in all 3 finals
The finals was not a contest for the Lakers as they were far superior to any teams in the east.
The real finals were against Portland, San Antonio and Sacramento respectively. Go watch what Kobe did to those teams.

He averaged 15 PPG in this series on 36% shooting and had a miserable 4 and 4 in rebounds and assists. Shaq averaged as many steals as he did. You're cherry-picking the playoffs.
That said, Shaq went to his first Finals at 23 with a 22-year-old guard who wasn't even a hall of famer without him. He didn't win though, because he wasn't playing with someone who had 2000 Shaq's stat line: 38 PPG, 16.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1 SPG, 2.7 BPG, 61% shooting

Shaq carried Kobe because he has 3 Finals MVP?
I guess Igudala is better than Curry since he won it defending Lebron James. Iggy must be the greatest of all time since he did it vs the best player of todays generation.
Who did Shaq had to guard?
    2000 Rik Smits
    2001 Mutumbo
    2002 Collins

+Lee B (KRB328) but bruh, Shaq was the main man during his time in LA and won the finals mvp while iggy was more of just a sidekick but still won the finals mvp, And in the warriors team curry is the hero. Im not saying kobe did nothing he is great too. but your logic of comparing Shaq-kobe and iggy-curry doesn't really make sense at all. Did the main man in LA won the finals MVP? yes. did the main man of golden state won the finals mvp as well? no.

+A Maddy Shaq was FOR SURE the alpha dog. But in the 2001 & 2002 playoffs as a whole, Kobe was definitely equal, if not better. And those runs were tough runs through a stacked Western Conference.

+mylestate man u r crazy. u have no knowledge of basketball. shaq drew all the doubleteams n opened up the floor for his whole team to score. kobe was never doubled with shaq on his team. sha was the most dominant force in the game from 200-2004.

    • @mylestate
      @mylestate 8 лет назад +31

TheSands83 Doug Christie, Scottie Pippen, Sean Elliot etc. were not consistently leaving Kobe to double Shaq, so stop it. And Kobe was their slasher/penetrator who created opportunities for his teammates just as often. The offense didn't even run through Shaq in the 4th quarters back then. It ran through Kobe.
Shaq, like I said, was THE ALPHA DOG. But Kobe pulled his fair share. Especially when they needed it vs Portland, Sac, San Antonio etc. In the Finals Shaq had Todd McCollugh and 100 year old Mutombo and old Rick Smits, so of course he would dominate.

That is the only finals of his career where he has averaged less than 20 ppg. In 01 he averaged 25 8 and 6, in 02 he averaged 27 6 and 5. So any shooting guard in the league at that time could have put up those numbers? Ignorance upon ignorance is what you're commenting. When Shaq was not in foul trouble or the other team was not hacking him he was the main option. And when people say in his first finals he only averaged 15 points per game. He got injured by jalen rose on purpose. And when Shaq fouled out in overtime against the pacers who saved them... KOBE. 25/11/7, with extremely clutch plays and playmaking at the end what most needed! And people say young Kobe was carried to the titles?? They wouldn’t have won a single one without him! Or shAq!! This game is the most epic game I’ve even seen in my entire life, and i was basically a baby when I saw it. It helped turn me into the basketball fanatic that I am to this day! Me and my sis and my dad basically cried we were so happy about this comeback!

If i wasnt a "part-time" Lakers fan (only part-time, Sixers #1 ✊😊), I'da been pulling for that Portland team to win. I liked alot of the players on that team.

Donte Burgess I wish kobe and shaq played together like they did in 2001 when they went 15-1 sweeping everyone they faced . .. let's be real I'm not a laker fan but when kobe let the game flow thru the diesel and played inside out . Nobody was touching them period

I will never understand how the Blazers lost that game. They had everything going their way for 3 quarters, and suddenly...nothing. they stopped playing. And there's a mistake on the3 video, the game was played at the Stapples centerand not at the forum, which the Lakers leave at the begining of this season (99-00)

MissSandraXO A group of talented players but no leadership. I thought Blazers in that season are the most talented team I've ever seen (Pippen, Smith, Wallace, Wells, Sabonis etc) but as I said, you need leadership in the crunch time like that.

Yeah, I think the same too. they were loaded ! Even the bench was very good. I even used to play with them back in NBA 2K on dreamcast !

Funny how Smith when on a Heatcheck in the 3rd quarter. But going on the fourth on 7:24 Kobe yell at them I GOT SMITH I GOT SMITH!! He knows he is hot and he is not running away from the matchup and with his defense he knew they could get it done and they did. And remember he was only 21 year old at that moment.
