2001 Western Conference Semifinals Game 4, May 13, 2001 | One of Kobe's greatest playoff games and arguably his very best ever. His 2001 playoff run is seen by many as his most impressive run because of performances like this. Throughout that 15-1 demolition of playoff opponents by the Lakers, Kobe was counted on to take it to another level in hostile environments on the road. Game 4 in Sacramento is one of various instances where Kobe needed to take charge and with the possibility of a second consecutive sweep in sight, he looked to take the game over right away. In a very high-tempo contest between two Western conference heavy-weights, #8 forced his way to a then playoff career-high 48 points while simultaneously ripping down 16 rebounds among the trees. Kobe was as aggressive as he'd ever been in this game, as evidenced by his 9 offensive rebounds and 19 free throw attempts. The Lakers used to strong 39-point 4th quarter to win the game 119-113 and end the Kings' season.

To think that a 6’6 shooting guard in the 2000’s was 2 points and 4 rebounds away from a 50-20 playoff game is insane.
They get 50. Now adays without breaking a sweat.
@@gannibalof21st true but this was a much slower paced era of basketball and it was in the playoffs against a great team. Kobe would drop 50 in his sleep now just like everyone has been and just like he did in his prime. He’d probably be the best scorer in the league
@@gannibalof21st kobe averaged 35ppg during a season where the league avg for points was 97 per game.... now a days the leauge average is like 110+
@@gannibalof21st and i dont see anyone dropping 50 in a playoff game relly at all, let alone without "breaking a sweat"
...and at the age of 22
Kobe wanted Webber to stay in the game instead of getting ejected for throwing the ball, he wanted to beat you at your fullest strength and capabilities...what a competitor
Tremain ??? You right bro
He was like naw I don’t want to hear nothing about the only reason we won was because Webber got kicked out
@@CourtxKings1 exactly
Wanted him to get all them buckets!! Haha!!
@@jermaingriffin4816 man, when you guarded tHAT way at you get all buckets.. that was supreme offense..
Kobe was the mvp of most of these west series because they had better defensive big men rather than guards....shaq was the mvp of the finals because the east had better defensive guards rather than bigs
Wish people would see this lol straight fucking facts
But the West still had the better teams that would have beat the east if they made it. Edge goes to Kobe
@@willydoe7315 yeap
Kobe was the best
@@willydoe7315 shaq gimself said kobes better than him n lebron
side kicks don't score 48 points and 16 rebounds in the playoffs
yeah, idc what anyone says, youthful kobe was unguardable, that 3peat was no fluke, and not done on shays back.
It was an equal partnership haha
tbh Shaq was more a first three quarters dominant gtfo of my way type player. But Kobe was their closer 90% of the time. That's only because of Shaq's atrocious free throw shooting. They complimented each other perfectly. Inside and outside.
facts!!!
Then 45 and 13 the very next game.....sidekick? I Guess lol
SLIP NORRIS how old was he?
kobe was never second fiddle. it was a duo and shaq couldn't do it without kobe straight up
+Edwin Sanchez And that is harsh truth that most never even know let alone accept.
It was an honor Kobe for you to absolutely destroy the Kings.
From, A kings fan.
4:24 Kobe with the 3-point play on 5 dudes. Literally. LMAO.
+EeeeZeee hahaha right, double didnt work, help didnt work ... kobe is kobe
+Ian Lungwitz
The help didn't work. Neither did the triple, quadruple, or quintuple.
proved it time and time again he could dominant all 5 guys on the court
doug christie was playing that steph curry defense lol awful
Doug did the best he could against him (i.e. Kobe), and his best wasn't good enough.
From the 2000-2001 season all they way till the 2009-2010 season he was the best player in the league! During that time period (10 years, a entire decade, the 2000’s) he average 28.5 ppg, 5.2AST, 5.8rebs, on 45% fg, 84% ft, almost 2stl with 5 chips and a ton of Defensive awards..
Sure a couple of guys had a few good season during that time, but accolades plus stats, he was the best player in the world 10 year straight, hate him or Love him. 10 years of Dominance is something special!
Only few have done that!
I'll give him 7 of those years being the best. Iverson was the man in 01 Duncan in 03 and lebron in 09
@@KennyMoe7mile Duncan was not better than kobe in 03 lebron wasn't better than kobe in 09. Stop.
@@robbereal1982 yes they were by far. Kobe just had better teams. Plus Duncan beat Kobe in 03 with a prime shaq...facts. Bron had an mvp season in 09 do your research as oppose to speaking with your feelings towards Kobe.
@@KennyMoe7mile bro you dont know what you're talking about and you just exposed that. In 2003 kobe carried that Lakers team and broke Jordan's records for most 30 and 40 point games in in a row because the team was getting weak and shaq missed a bunch of games to start the season. Tim Duncan had a better team which won the title that year. And kobe almost beat them by himself especially in gm 5 in which Horry missed the Game winner.
@@KennyMoe7mile lebron statistically had a better team than kobe in 09 and lost to dwight Howard. Kobe's 2nd leading scorer was Gasol with 18 Ariza like 11 and d fish with 10. Just stop. Kobe won the title in 09 in the west with statistically less help than lebron. What the hell are you talking about?
Kobe the GOAT
Fun fact : Kobe played THE ENTIRE GAME. Didn't sit a single second.
A point per minute
Kobe did the same in 2002 game 7. Played every minute including overtime.
And didn’t look tired at ALL.
He almost did the same thing in that overtime Game 1 NBA Finals vs Iverson and the Sixers. He played 52:05 of the 53 minutes.
Wow . Didn't sit . I've heard he works his ass off but damn
I’m Bron fan but I gotta admit I watch Kobe’s whole carrer I was Born in 1993 so when I began to realize what I was watching Lakers was the best team in the league in the early 2000’s since Kobe’s passing I been watching Kobe more than any other player and im starting to realize Kobe may have been the Greatest player ever he didn’t have the God given gifts Jordan or lebron hell even Iverson had Kobe was like a regular guy who work for his playing against Gods like I see what Gilbert arenas was saying
Greatest player to ever do it. In plain sight 💯.
Lebron stans like to say Kobe was carried 3 of his championships but are too prideful and scared to watch these highlights because of the "TRUTH!"
Kobe has a saiyan like mindset, said he wants to compete with players at their best and doesn’t want them thrown out. Nowadays guys smile and clap when players get thrown out
Some people dont realize that the lakers offense was built around Shaq. Had it been Kobe, they'll still 3-peat..
+Prince Cyrill: Warriors fan since 2015 No lol
Greatness Personified Duncan or kg with Kobe would repeat
Kobe with Kwamaaaay Brown would three peat.
They tried that for 9 years for Shaq before Kobe was even a starter.
Mamba Moments !🏀🏀🙏🏽
Awe these were the good old days the Shaq and Kobe era they were so dominant
Fisher, fox and Grant pulled their weight also..
Kobe Bryant is the greatest basketball player in the 21st. Century.....
Kobe was the best player in the league (Offense/defense) from 2001-2009
Kobe Bryant is my 2nd favorite ❤️ 😍 🤩 NBA player!!! Back in this year, he’s so dominant and focused in the game!!!❤😊❤❤😊😊❤😊
3:24 Divac was still bitter Lakers traded him for Kobe
+keith kells He never let it go. Even now.
The only thing Vlade is better than Kobe at, is at flopping
10 Offensive rebounds, steals, Blocks chris weber, 48 points, clutch in the fourth (WHEN SHAQ FOUSL OUT)... Dunks on Vlade...
The disrespct these fucking gen z twitter/tik tok kids have on this GOAT is insane.
Kids these day say kobe isn't top 10..... ALUGHABLE. MJ #1 Kobe #2. bar none
You mean Kobe number 1
damm he wanted c Webb to keep his cool so he won't get ejected .... cause he wanted him to witness an ass kicking lol 😂
Long live Kobe.
2:20 Kobe wanted Webber to stay in the game so there'd be no excuses. They totally missed the point of that
i think lebron is pretty damn good, but you don't see me going to his videos throwing kobe's name up trying to argue with anybody..Why? Cause he's not a threat to me and we all have opinions, but the lebron jock riders love to bring their asses to kobe videos and talk major shit..Why? Why else hate on someone to prove a point and it's only, because they're threatened by his greatness..Shits pathetic..They're both great..The end!!
@@gillaaaboy yep exactly both great players. However they are diffrent.

Ahh the good old days when 99 & 2000 nba were fast paced and more physical compared to the bs we see advertised on tv today you stare at someone wrong you get ejected Time has truly passed i remember going to the Sixers vs Lakers finals when I was younger the nostalgia is real with this one

Kobe carried them through the toughest part the western playoffs!

Flawless. Don't get old
Kobe carried the Lakers against the Kings, every time. Which was the real finals match up.

Classy exit by Webber at the end.
Just realized Kobe and Tupac look just alike
#afro Kobe or bald head Kobe I love them both🥰💜💛 and ❤️🖤💚 and GiGi too
I have game 2 of the 2001 WCSF that isnt on youtube the full game its on my dvr they showed it on NBA TV
The Western Conference back then was so tough. Teams had strategies to contain Shaq (in this game, Shaq fouled out,). Not to mention, WC teams had no qualms doing the hack-a-Shaq down the stretch. The Kings were especially tricky because Divac was the original bona fide flopper (who was actually good with his acting unlike the flops today which are just way too blatant). It wasn't sporting, but teams will do what they need to win. Unfortunately, there was someone called Kobe Bryant. And in many of the WC Playoff games, Kobe was actually carrying the Lakers to victory. Without Kobe, the Lakers wouldn't make the Finals in consecutive years.
How can people say he needed oneal to win those 3 rings...maybe he wouldnt win 3...but 2 he wpuld..this game is an example
In my humble opinion, Shaq would be my num 1 option of all time. This version of Kobe in my humble opinion again, is the best number 2 of all time!! I have Kobe at 5 all time overall tho!!
That man ain’t even sweating 🤦♂️
Horace grant understood how to handle Kobe he was Jordan reborn
And he was carried by Shaq all those years huh ?
4:25 that was a 5 on 1 ISO and1.....
Ridiculous 😂😂😂
The Kings shouldn't have started with Kobe; even the young #8 made these guys PAY.....
RIP
Treated Doug Christie like a Traffic Cone at 22 years old 🤣
The Legend of Kobe began here. Kings still got robbed though.
Definitely not in 2001
Played with a sore left hip
That Pass By Horry 7:08
Where is hack a Shaq....Kobe is the true Goat....Mike wanted no part of that baby monster.
48 & 16 in a close out game by a very young Kobe Bryant. This while playing with Shaq on the team and people say this guy was a "sidekick"? I think not.
yeah. people forgetting they run triangle offense which basically makes shaq the focal point of offense. but shaq didn't score it by himself. to run triangle and take advantage the deep post you need to have a good perimeter shooter/ facilatator that can run the offense. Kobe was the guy. not to mention he doesn't need much screen because that would clog the offense in the paint.
Then 45 & 10 the very next game against the Spurs. People got to realize that Shaq had like 7 seasons to win a chip before Kobe even became a starter.
Shaq had Penny Hardaway and a pretty good squad in Orlando and when he came to LA he had All Stars Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones.
Funny thing is that when Kobe actually started games in 1999 he avg more points than Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones ever did in their career 🤣. Eddie Jones and Nick Van Excel never scored more than 19.9ppg in a season.
By 2000 Kobe avg 22.5ppg as a starter. Penny Hardaway never even avg 22ppg in a season
I say Shaq carried the team from 1997-2000. Even though in 2000 Kobe was the reason they even made it out the Western Conference Finals. However, from 2001-2004 Kobe was leading the Team with Shaq.
2002 Kobe started and played 80 games
2002 Shaq played and started 67 games
2003 Kobe played and started all 82 games
2003 Shaq played and started 66 games.
From 2001-2004 Shaq not the CLEAR best player on the team.
2001-2004 Regular season
*Kobe* 27.0ppg, 6.0rb, 5.4ast, 1.8stl, 0.6blk
*Shaq* 26.3ppg, 11.5rb, 3.2ast, 0.6stl, 2.4blk
2001-2004 Postseason
*Kobe* 27.6ppg, 5.7rb, 5.3ast, 1.6stl, 0.5blk
*Shaq* 26.4ppg, 13.8rb, 3.0ast, 0.4blk, 2.6blk

How to guard Kobe:
1. Pray to a God

Ringo Flamma how to guard kobe
1. Box out his big men and don't let them rebound kobe's bricks.
2. Let kobe shoot all he wants cause the majority of his shots will be bricks and make sure your team rebounds those bricks.
I wonder how Bulls Pippen would do guarding him
phillyslasher I'm a genius you idiot so don't give me that crap.
aye people always try to say shaq carried kobe they funny af and clearly kobe haters
Amen brother
Kobe isnt the tyle to let the game come to him he takes wat he wants he fights from jump ball one thing i love about kobe is he hits shot you just know were bad and makes the looj easy lol he os phenominal and to not be near as strong as lebron or jordan he finishes in traffic jus as good
***** he was jus about even by the third ring and his forth and fifith he was way better
Brandonwun the first chip too!! Kobe was jus injured and it was his first finals he was young
***** vince carter and t mac were jus as sweet as kobe u sayin them like they bums ........they just stopped gettin better were as kobe he kept gettin better over the years

The greatest player I've ever seen.
People always point to Shaq's finals dominance as a reason to discredit Kobe's first 3 rings. They forget Shaq went up against Rik Smits, 34 year old Mutombo, and Todd MacCulloch.
+jben3231 and Kobe went up against Aaron Mckie, Reggie Miller, and Kerry Kittles, not exactly lockdown defenders. Kobe was a big part, but its nothing like his other 2 rings, these were on the shoulders of Shaquille, its no discredit, its the truth.
+Stewart Callaway +Stewart Callaway it's a team..without Kobe shaq doesn't 3peat...and same for Kobe. but shaqs shoulders? he fouled out Kobe came thru...against the pacers...that series was close..game 4 ...those jumpers? or that tip off BShaws miss? clutch man it's no truth
they both won, together...shit 09 Trevor ariza was huge getting those inbound steals...dfish hitting that late three against the magic on the road...I'm just saying it's a team. without big shot Bob do the Lakers 3 peat..
During the 00-02 3peat, Kobe averaged 27.6 ppg vs. the Blazers, Kings, and Spurs when everyone knew the NBA Champ would come out of the West. Kobe always averaged more ppg vs. the Spurs. Not bad for a "sidekick that rode Shaq to 3 rings." I don't even acknowledge haters' nonsense. Guess Eddie Jones & Van Exl would've done the same, or maybe even the supreme bricklayer Iverson, or Mr. No Defense McGrady
Thank you! I've been saying that for years!
Jben3231 i agree with you im a kobe fan but lets be real dude early 00s shaq was the most unstoppable force ever dude
Shaq has great players with him in Orlando and didn’t win a title until Kobe came of age. Let that sink in folks.
Big Mike I know crazy 19 of age!!! That sinking gets deeper lol
They can’t let it sink in. The media just tells them Kobe needed Shaq he needed Shaq and they don’t do their home work. Like you and I.
He would've won in Orlando if he stayed
Let that sizzle in your spirit!
I say this ALL DA TIME! 💯🎯
Kobe was the best player in the league from 1999 until he tore his achilles in 2013

+Kendall Green nope
Hebron became the best player in 2011.
1999??? Are you high bro? Shaq,Timmy,Iverson and fucking KG were all better than Kobe in '99....shit even Vince Carter was better in '99 Kobe didnt become the best in the league until 2003 and that ended in 2009 when LeBron succeeded him...but he was the best for that 6 year period though.
2:35 is why Kobe is a Warrior. He only want to beat the best team. He wants NOTHING given to him. THAT is why he is one of the greatest of all time.

Truth
I'm glad I'm seeing this comment from someone while he was alive 🙏🏿
And they say Shaq carried Kobe...😂😂😂👎
Kobe had to guard Reggie Miller, Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd during their 3-Peat, while Shaq had to guard Rik Smits, 34 years old Mutombo, and Todd McCulloch. Kobe had tougher opponents than Shaq did during those Finals and people try to argue that Kobe was carried because he had less numbers. All of the teams that the Lakers beat were teams driven by the guards, not centers. The last time Shaq went up against a team driven by a big man in the Finals was in 1994, and you all know what happened.
Unknown Name people forget that...
I keep telling people, the "Shaq carried Kobe" argument is such a myth and an insulting fabrication. Kobe Bryant was a far more important influence on the 3 peat than Shaq ever was.

How many of those hard fouls would be flagrants in today's NBA lol?
'99-'05 was the last great stretch of NBA basketball. Tough, gritty,
unfriendly, competitive...none of this bff bs we have today. You got
hard fouled, you didnt cry about it. Sure you plead a case real quick
but then you go back and answer with a poster dunk, or a facial in the
defenders face and talk shit on the way back up the court. 2001 was
especially great year for basketball because it was a perfect mix of
80's toughness, 90's athleticism, and early 00's streetball swagger and
showmanship. None of this soft, kumbaya shit we have today and WAY less
flopping. I remember that back in these days, floppers were considered
bitches and not o well it part of the game bs we have today. Thats why
players like Divac were given no respect by his opponents and non on the
streets either. its a shame how soft the NBA is today. Flagrants and
techs at every turn, no trash talking, no taunting just SMDH. #BRINGGROWNMANBBALLBACK
