2001 Western Conference Semifinals Game 4, May 13, 2001 | One of Kobe's greatest playoff games and arguably his very best ever. His 2001 playoff run is seen by many as his most impressive run because of performances like this. Throughout that 15-1 demolition of playoff opponents by the Lakers, Kobe was counted on to take it to another level in hostile environments on the road. Game 4 in Sacramento is one of various instances where Kobe needed to take charge and with the possibility of a second consecutive sweep in sight, he looked to take the game over right away. In a very high-tempo contest between two Western conference heavy-weights, #8 forced his way to a then playoff career-high 48 points while simultaneously ripping down 16 rebounds among the trees. Kobe was as aggressive as he'd ever been in this game, as evidenced by his 9 offensive rebounds and 19 free throw attempts. The Lakers used to strong 39-point 4th quarter to win the game 119-113 and end the Kings' season.

From the 2000-2001 season all they way till the 2009-2010 season he was the best player in the league! During that time period (10 years, a entire decade, the 2000’s) he average 28.5 ppg, 5.2AST, 5.8rebs, on 45% fg, 84% ft, almost 2stl with 5 chips and a ton of Defensive awards..
Sure a couple of guys had a few good season during that time, but accolades plus stats, he was the best player in the world 10 year straight, hate him or Love him. 10 years of Dominance is something special!

The Western Conference back then was so tough. Teams had strategies to contain Shaq (in this game, Shaq fouled out,). Not to mention, WC teams had no qualms doing the hack-a-Shaq down the stretch. The Kings were especially tricky because Divac was the original bona fide flopper (who was actually good with his acting unlike the flops today which are just way too blatant). It wasn't sporting, but teams will do what they need to win. Unfortunately, there was someone called Kobe Bryant. And in many of the WC Playoff games, Kobe was actually carrying the Lakers to victory. Without Kobe, the Lakers wouldn't make the Finals in consecutive years.

yeah. people forgetting they run triangle offense which basically makes shaq the focal point of offense. but shaq didn't score it by himself. to run triangle and take advantage the deep post you need to have a good perimeter shooter/ facilatator that can run the offense. Kobe was the guy. not to mention he doesn't need much screen because that would clog the offense in the paint.

Then 45 & 10 the very next game against the Spurs. People got to realize that Shaq had like 7 seasons to win a chip before Kobe even became a starter.
Shaq had Penny Hardaway and a pretty good squad in Orlando and when he came to LA he had All Stars Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones.
Funny thing is that when Kobe actually started games in 1999 he avg more points than Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones ever did in their career 🤣. Eddie Jones and Nick Van Excel never scored more than 19.9ppg in a season.
By 2000 Kobe avg 22.5ppg as a starter. Penny Hardaway never even avg 22ppg in a season
I say Shaq carried the team from 1997-2000. Even though in 2000 Kobe was the reason they even made it out the Western Conference Finals. However, from 2001-2004 Kobe was leading the Team with Shaq.
2002 Kobe started and played 80 games
2002 Shaq played and started 67 games
2003 Kobe played and started all 82 games
2003 Shaq played and started 66 games.
From 2001-2004 Shaq not the CLEAR best player on the team.
      2001-2004 Regular season

      1. Box out his big men and don't let them rebound kobe's bricks.
      2. Let kobe shoot all he wants cause the majority of his shots will be bricks and make sure your team rebounds those bricks.

During the 00-02 3peat, Kobe averaged 27.6 ppg vs. the Blazers, Kings, and Spurs when everyone knew the NBA Champ would come out of the West. Kobe always averaged more ppg vs. the Spurs. Not bad for a "sidekick that rode Shaq to 3 rings." I don't even acknowledge haters' nonsense. Kobe had to guard Reggie Miller, Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd during their 3-Peat, while Shaq had to guard Rik Smits, 34 years old Mutombo, and Todd McCulloch. Kobe had tougher opponents than Shaq did during those Finals and people try to argue that Kobe was carried because he had less numbers. All of the teams that the Lakers beat were teams driven by the guards, not centers. The last time Shaq went up against a team driven by a big man in the Finals was in 1994, and you all know what happened.

How many of those hard fouls would be flagrants in today's NBA lol?
'99-'05 was the last great stretch of NBA basketball. Tough, gritty,
unfriendly, competitive...none of this bff bs we have today. You got
hard fouled, you didnt cry about it. Sure you plead a case real quick
but then you go back and answer with a poster dunk, or a facial in the
defenders face and talk shit on the way back up the court. 2001 was
especially great year for basketball because it was a perfect mix of
80's toughness, 90's athleticism, and early 00's streetball swagger and
showmanship. None of this soft, kumbaya shit we have today and WAY less
flopping. I remember that back in these days, floppers were considered
bitches and not o well it part of the game bs we have today. Thats why
players like Divac were given no respect by his opponents and non on the
streets either. its a shame how soft the NBA is today. Flagrants and
techs at every turn, no trash talking, no taunting just SMDH. #BRINGGROWNMANBBALLBACK
