Full Highlights
2002 NBA Playoffs
Western Conference Finals
LA Lakers vs Sacramento Kings
Game 7 - June 2, 2002
ARCO Arena
Kobe - 30 pts, 10r, 7a, 2s / 10-26 fg, 2-3 3pt, 8-10 ft
Shaq - 35 pts, 13r, 2a, 4b / 12-25 fg, 11-15 ft
Kobe & Shaq had many legendary performances as a duo. This WCF game 7 in Sacramento was arguably their greatest. It was truly the peak of their partnership. The ultimate test presented itself in this series. Lakers’ players and fans seemed to recognize this best of 7 matchup as the toughest amidst the 3-peat. Game 4, down 24 points in the 2nd quarter while trailing the Kings 2-1; then down 3-2, Kobe & Shaq combining for 72 points and 28 rebounds in game 6; lastly game 7, at Arco in Sacramento, posting a combined 65 points, 23 rebounds and 9 assists in the overtime victory. The “challenge,” as Kobe states in locker-room interview, was an opportunity to embrace. This mentality proved successful.
People talk about a player’s best game, best season. Personally, I like to consider their best shot; the shot that out of all career field goals would be #1, this is subjective. Whether defined as greatest, most memorable, or favorite, the one that sticks with me for Shaquille O’Neal is his 1 dribble right shoulder turn baseline jumper to tie this game at 106. Its arguably the most clutch shot he ever hit. It exemplifies Shaq’s ability to utilize footwork & post up skills, while maintaining composure in what was a high pressure situation. Plenty of players would’ve shown uncertainty in a moment like that, down 2 with a minute and change left in a dynasty-deciding game 7, and perhaps tried to force something at the rim. Shaq resorted to his most reliable go-to move, catching Chris Webber leaning and drilling the short drifter for points 32 and 33. It doesn’t get much better.
This is one of Kobe’s most underrated performances. 30 points, 10 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals, 2 charges drawn, and 0 turnovers in a Conference Final game 7 on the road. He played 52:33 out of the possible 53 minutes, and likely would have been the full 53 if not for the faulty drawstring. His poise down the stretch was incredible.

One of the greatest game 7's and 7 game series in NBA history. In state rivalry, 3 stars/superstars in there prime (Webber/Shaq/Kobe) . Buzzer beaters (Horry) Last second shots (Bibby) and of course, historically infamous controversy (Game 6). This series had it all.

As a laker fan since 1990, I never before or after stressed as hard as this series. It was a brutal heavy weight series. The next most stressful had to be the 2010 Finals.
Actually the Lakers had a greater chance in 2010 than that Sacramento series.

I remember watching this game when i was on summer break and back home from college. This has always been one of the best games I've ever seen.
Great days of the NBA...
Nowadays we have too many skinny players named Jalen shooting threes all game and flopping 🤦♂️
I wish I could like this video a million times. Your point about Shaq is spot on - for a big man he had the softest touch around the rim and excellent footwork. That turnaround baseline hook is money, it's the same buzzer beater shot he hit against Utah. Absolutely unguardable
I appreciate that man! And yessir i posted those highlights around the same time, 39 points and the game winner. Unguardable indeed, perfect combo of raw talent, physical gifts, developed skill, and inner intensity/“dominate” mentality.
Yao was up there too...better shooter
All thanks to Kareem. Just my opinion.
R.I.P Mamba
Watching this 21 years later, remembering how I watched it live at Staples Center on the jumbotron with other Laker fans, feeling extreme relief at the end while pumping my fist

The greatest Game 7 win in history
Who else is watching? Watching this and other classics it’s so much fun to see no cellphones and people actually watching the game and involving the game. Ever green classics.
Derek Fisher, Rick Fox and Robert Horry were All great role players for those Lakers teams!!
I still get chills from watching Kobe and Shaq giving it all to win against Sacramento!!
Most Free Throws I think I’ve ever see. Shaq Make👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I can still feel the intensity watching these highlights over 20 years later! Yes, we in L.A were all in pins and needles that day as Kobe said, lol.
Kobe‘s perseverance always surprises Kobe Bryant only made two more shots excluding FT yet he still kept going for the throat
Kobe and Shaq best duo in NBA HISTORY!

The Sacramento Kings forcing a Game 7 back in Sactown against another defending NBA champion in the Golden State Warriors brought me here.

That crowd in Sacramento is the loudest in the league, along with that deep squad.... but kobe and shaq along with the rest went to war that night! Great memories of my childhood I have this recorded on a vhs tape
Shaq was always hilarious😂😂
Kobe missing clutch free throws and Shaq hittin them is crazy
I was 20 when this game took place, I can still remember exactly where I was and who I was with. Some of those friends are passed, just like Kobe. However, some of my greatest memories are from my friends and players like Kobe & Shaq.
This was an interesting time in the NBA, the 7 years in between MJ & LeBron, when Mamba and Shaq tore the club up.

The Lakers made history by being the first road team to win game 7 in 20 years. Robert Horry had 16 points & 12 rebounds. Rick Fox had 14 points & 13 rebounds. Shaq had 35 points & Kobe had 30 points & 10 rebounds.

This was real basketball, not the game we see now. Bunch on players shooting 3's all the time. Crazy how things change. Rest in peace kobe.
I mean if it wasn’t for zone defense being allowed then 3’s wouldn’t have become popular. Blame the NBA for allowing that.
Real basketball isn’t rigging the other team because you want 2 people to win rings🤡
Shaquille O'Neal is such a force when he played for the lakers nobody could stop him shack and Kobe were great duo.
Answer this for me. Phil Jackson stated that even the 72 and 10 Bulls wouldn't have beaten the Lakers, because who was going to stop Shaq. What do you think?
This was prolly top 3 best playoff series and most controversial all time
I still remember Peja's wide open air ball 3 at the end, I was like wtf.
He took to much time to think about that when shooter’s make mistakes by second guessing there mechanics and trying to measure the shot in stead of just shooting it. Look up 2011 nba finals we’re Peja was just stroking it

In my opinion if Phil would’ve really made Shaq understand how great Kobe won’t just was but was going to be. then 04 he wouldn’t of tried to force a fmvp cause it was obvious he was tired of the thought of being in Shaq’s shadow. After the 3, young kob should’ve been able to lead.
if horry made the shot vs spurs 2003 the would 4 peat
@@JoaoVictor-mw8ln thank you but yk more goes into the bigger picture my g
Great point but I think the reason things happened the way they did was because Shaq never had anyone pass the torch to him. He’s been the man from day 1 in Orlando. It would have been great if he was a little more like Tim Duncan.. but Timmy had David Robinson show him the way. Everything happens for a reason and they both were able to win championships without each other.

Wow thats awesome to hear. Sounds wild being a lakers fan up there at the time! And absolutely on the Peja 3. With all Phil Jackson teams, the Lakers maintained their poise, remained calm and stayed true to their identity down the stretch. As somebody whose watched the entire series after the fact, I can say they didnt play out of character in the late 4th and OT.
