- When I was in high school I had a goal to still be able to dunk when I was 50. The last time I dunked, I was 48. Several months ago while experiencing yet another midlife crisis, I set a goal and accepted the challenge to dunk at my current age. Here is the result of a 6'2" 54 year old trying to dunk. See my prior dunk topic videos for how it progressed.

Take pride in THIS dunk. there shouldnt be anyone who isnt impressed with this dunk. You're 54 bro. This is an amazing feat. keep up the good work!
That's damn impressive. Usually, no matter what kind of shape you are in you lose spring in the mid to late 30's, and by 50 couldn't jump over a phone book.
I wanna be this athletic at 54 too
@@MisterFoster74 You sure this dude is 54?
I am 6 foot 1. I last dunked when I was 38 when I was on vacation in Mexico. I know the feeling.
Yo, i have just 40 years old and I am 6'2. I used to play basketball and also used to dunk. I have always thought that once you reach late thirties, your basketball life is over. You, sir, have inspired me to keep going. Seeing you do this at 54 years old is nothing short of AMAZING AND INSPIRATIONAL. Well done!!!!
Hey YFQ, that was a great video! I'm 65 and only about 5'8" and I can still get up and down! BUT, there are a couple of things to that. #1, I don't drink (at least not anyone). #2, I'm a bachelor and I cook for myself at home. None of that Wendy's, Mickey Ds, the Chinese food lunch specials, White Castles, or any of that. So #3, I can still get up and down even with & against boys who are young enough to be my grandsons! AND I wind up being the guy with the ball. That's because probably much like you, I grew up watching all the legendary guards like Clyde, "The Pearl", Pete Maravich (I never did care for the name "Pistol" too much), and of course Jerry West (RIP), when they were in their prime. Yes, there may be RUclips videos about them, but they didn't GROW UP watching them! 🏀
To dunk at 6-2 is no easy feat . . . To dunk at 6-2 and 54 years of age is an OUTSTANDING achievement! Nicely done!
Dunking at any height above 6’ is not hard at all
6-2 it’s easy to dunk your basically dam near giant
LOL what? Dunking at 6’2 is not impressive. Dunking at 54 is impressive.
@@The0nehitwonder💯
@@do.2808 Haha. Grow to 6 feet and try it.
The younger generations won’t appreciate how great this accomplishment is. In high school and university I could do windmills, through the leg, all sorts of trick dunks … easy. At 42 I have to work to dunk and they are no better than the ones thrown down here. If I can dunk this well at 54 I’ll be more than happy.
Hey guy if you read my reply and at 42, are still able to get and down, then you're already ahead of the game! And me personally, I always played the off point shooting guard position. I played JHS and some high school ball but as I said in my post, I know HOW to play! Many of these younger guys don't because they're too busy playing NBA 2K! 🙄🙄🏀
Hell Yes that is 100% a slam. Man this is inspiring!! Great job man!
Inspiration! I’m 47 and haven’t dunked in 20 years. Great editing too!
47/20 like me, now i try do it
...I'm 47 and haven't dunked since spring 2000. Now I'm lucky to touch backboard
Great job...I am 50 and 6'2"...192 pounds...I can't get up like you anymore, but working out again so I will try in 30 days
been 2 weeks, about half way in, how is it?
@@DrHouse-fb1qe I am not going to try...I was running sprints to get in shape. Pulled something in my knee...which I will be fine.
Learning though that I must stretch more muscles than I thought since I am 50...so I will weight until it get warmer out...but I did go from 198 to 188 in the last 3 weeks.
The lighter I am and less I eat...the better I will feel and I will let you know in 4 months..
I have to let my ego chill...and focus on taking it slow...
Our family does struggle with flexibility..family curse;)
@@DrHouse-fb1qehe died 😂
This is inspirational. There ain't no hate or shade coming from me. Congratulations. Keep it up!!!!
Well done man!! 44 here, was close to dunking again this year after 14 years and I sprained my ankle big time. Back to the grind…
I hear you. I'm currently dealing with multiple injuries. It's so frustrating. I hope you can rehab your ankle quick and get back to training.
Thanks man! Appreciate. Your video inspired me to stick to it.
Impressive for sure. Your determination is paying off. Well done!
Nice I will be 64 in 17 days and I hope to do it and be the oldest ever..🏀
Great work!! It’s been great seeing your progress these last few months!
THIS made my year!!! So AWESOME Tom! If this doesn't bring 200 viewers, the rest of the world is just missing out!
Bro I'm 36 and I've never dunked. I mean, I'm also 5'9", but it's no excuse. I've never made it a priority. But THIS video...awesome. I'm going to commit to being able to dunk by the time I'm 40. Dunking at 54 is a phenomenal feat, don't shortchange yourself. This is a great accomplishment without a doubt.
Fantastic stuff, this is very very impressive. It's well documented that Power and speed development truly have a window to around 30 years old, but you have really extended that. Congrats
Pure inspiration! Well done, my friend.
That is great, man!!! To dunk at age 54 is incredible and very few others can do it, if any. I am 5'11" and have dunked one time in my life. At age 21 down at the YMCA, everything went right and I did it. Never happened again, but it's still in my memory bank. Nice going.
My man!
10/10
Great job and thanks for the motivation!!!
Man, that’s awesome.. Great job! Keep exercising and eating right for your body, I love seeing your height on this dunk! I’m 6’2” as wel and 40, I used to dunk off the 1-foot, now I’m 60 pounds heavier and need to get my legs in shape. You’re inspiring!
Congratulations! That's amazing!
Kudos! That is very impressive! I'm 5' 5" so was never able to dunk. But when I was 16-17, I was able to touch the rim. Now I'm 46. Maybe if I train for a few years, by the time I'm 50, I may be able to touch the rim again. Time to start by losing about 40 lbs 🙂
I am 44 years and 5 foot 8. I dunked a pickle ball when I was in HS (age 18). I find this video very inspiring. I am not sure if I can ever dunk but I will try to touch a 10 foot rim. That alone would be a great accomplishment in itself for my age.
if you can do a dunk at your hight at 44 i think its amazing!!! at your age i still could dunk but not easy, and not if i was hunted by a defender just if i was free to take a perfect jump. now at 62 i could just touch the rim last summer, but with special exercise just for jumping i think its 50 percents chance i can do the eaisest dunk on 10 feet rim. Fun to have a goal cause the exercise is rather boring ha ha! Good luck!
I'm also 44, but I'm an inch taller. In highschool I could dunk any ball I could palm on a 10 ft rim. Now I have arthritis in both knees, and am amazed that I was dunking at 5'6" on a regulation rim.
That dunk looked awesome. Lets keep em coming!
My last dunk was December 17th, 1999. So I literally have not dunked since the last millennium. I was 31 but to be fair I am a disabled Marine so...
Thank you for your service ❤
Didn't the Marines tell you to never quit?I don't want excuses.
Just kidding.👍
Seimper Fi same here 100% still at it for fun
@@Thatguy-yz7eh my injury isn't in my legs.
Come on devil. You got legs, you can do it.
48yo 6' former dunker now with repaired left Achilles (guess what the surgeon said it was from) and relocated right foot. I still play but don't even try layups because of how relatively week my left foot is now. This gives me some inspiration to try to lighten and strengthen up and see if I can start jumping off of two feet to get back up there. Thanks for sharing!
you got me with that mister miyagi joint!!
I'm 46. I still hoop pretty hard & pretty often. I'm not all that good or anything, but I have some pretty satisfying moments here & there. & I have a deep love for the game. & I really need the exercise. haha!! anyway... what I mean to say is... this is super inspiring. so, thank you!! & bravo!!
Let’s gooooooo!!!!! I see you big dawg!
Man, congrats. I'm 51 and can still barely touch Rim. No way could I dunk. I used to be able back in the day. Great job. 👍
Great video! Sucks getting old. I can’t get up like I used to but I’ll still go shoot around and work on handles and jumpers, reliving past glory!
Good on you....That is damn impressive. I used to have a 39"-40" vertical and could dunk in game, two hand, etc at 5-11. I am your age now, and my vert is probably 20" max. Can't eve touch the rim. Depressing. I used to literally just bounce and getting height was so easy. Not any more...that "springyness" just goes away with time.
That's super impressive! Nice work.
That's amazing man. Still getting up like that make or miss is amazing.
Woo hooo!!! That’s what I call true motivation 💯🙌🏾🏀
Good work, inspirational big time, keep up the good work!!!
Damn that's impressive, I'm 16 and can't dunk
Alot of growth to do😊
Great job done!
I am 45 and my feet turned so bad that i have Problems walking. Played 10 years on high level basketball. So a dunking at that age is just incredible to me.
Thank you for this video! This is very inspiring!
Your doing great, keep it up!
I'm 46 and haven't dunked since I was 32. I completely wrecked my left leg in a church pickup game playing against some college kids. The game got heated and I dunked all over a kid that played for Villanova back then. I tried it again and didn't end well the second time lol. Had a 6 hour surgery and the doctor told me back then that I'd never play again. 3 travel team championships later I'm training both my boys and they both can play. I'm still in pretty good shape but can't dunk anymore. The lift is gone since that surgery. But can still get rim pretty easy. Great video my man.
When i was fifty i was gonna work out and try and dunk it again, just so i could say i could dunk at fifty, i was a one leg dunker, but i was afraid i was gonna bust up a knee trying to make moves my body was no longer use too, so i chickened out, I'm very impressed by you at 54!👍
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIR OGGGGGGGGGGGGGG YOU DID IT NOW ITS COMEBACK SEASON TIME!!! YOU GONNA BE THE HEALTHIEST ONE IN YOUR GROUP BY THE TIME YOU'RE ALL 80 AND AND ABOVE LETS GOOOOOOO
6'3" here. There was only about a 2 year period during my late 20s where I could dunk cleanly (i.e., off the dribble). I'm 61 now and can still shoot the lights out but fatigue quickly and won't even consider trying to dunk. Really should be doing more stretching and preventative maintenance but was never good with that stuff.
Good for you staying fit enough to keep going strong.
I’m 39 years old going, 6’4” play basketball all the time, I used to be able to get my elbow above the rim, I havnt dunked in a long long time, my hats off for you, keep fighting Father Time
get a short rim like him
Inspirational!!!
Super cool very inspirational
When I was younger I could 2-hand dunk on a 10-foot rim at a height of 6'1" tall. Today, at 68 years old I can't even dunk a donut because of high blood sugar. Time takes down the best of us.
Beast that’s dope you can still dunk like that but I gotta say the thumbnail looked like you were taking off from the free throw line 😅
This was hilarious 😂 You def get your props. I need to get out there and wow my nephews before its too late... youve given me renewed hope
That dunk was great. Especially at your age
Massive respect to you sir!
Great job man, I'm 5-11 and could never jump well enough to dunk, keep grinding!
Impressive stuff. I know a bunch of guys that are in awesome shape in their late 40s and early 50s. They still play basketball multiple times a week. None of them would come close to dunking.
i stopped dunking almost immediately when i entered the workforce. it was like my body knew it had to become a fat lazy non-hooper guy lol. great vid and very motivational.
That's good going man! How tall are you? I'm just under 6'3", 43 and can still dunk. It's really surprising how many just count themselves out of being able to dunk (and ar life in general) when they reach a certain age! I feel you can inspire others as to what's possible and I'd just like to say to anyone reading this KEEP GOING!!!
Love this! Hope I make a video like this when I’m 54, well done 🎉 👍🏆💪
You motivated me for my fitness goals thank you
That was awesome!! Great job!! 💪🏾😁... I turn 48 next month and my wife won't let me even try anymore 😂! I was dunking consecutively 5 years ago. Our friends and family are popping their achilles' so she's like keep your ass on the ground😂
super impressive man!! you can seriously jump💯
You’re 6’2?! That’s impressive! I’m 6’2 and I just turned 48 and I doubt if I can dunk a sock! I haven’t dunked since my early 30’s so I am thoroughly impressed with this! I thought you were 6’6. Impressive.
The algorithm brought me here. Excellent dunk!
That's awesome. I can't even touch the rim. 😢
I like the way your brain works with the editing. Very similar to myself. But when it comes to physical abilities at over 50 yrs old ya mops the floor with me 😆
I wasn't going to give a like because you travelled, but it was still a good effort,so i gave you a like.
With Mr. Miyagi, everything is possible. 🙂👍🏼
Nice! So fin. Congrats
Dang thats so impressive
Props to you man
This IS all relevant: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. 5'10", which was a decent height for an Asian male of my generation. I was never a great jumper, but not the worst, either. In my prime (Age 20-27, when I was also the closest to "handsome" as I've ever been), I could get the net automatically, the padding on the bottom of the backboard easily, and could even nick the bottom of the glass backboard with the tip of my finger. I never touched the rim, let alone dunked, on a 10 foot hoop. I'm 51 in 2024. In 2016 when I was 43, I accicentally slipped in the shower, and tore my achilles heel, and that was painful. Then in 2019 at 46, shooting ALONE, I did a simple Christian Laettner dribble, step step, jump off the left foot, shoot with the right hand, and I popped "that tendon, on the BACK of my LOWER leg." Ever since that, I knew that I was DONE doing anything more than shooting around. I'm an injury waiting to happen. As it was, I long thought that I'd live to be 48, and pass away. My most strenuous exercise is doing the treadmill at 3.6 MPH. No more running, no jumping. When I shoot around, my rebounds are flat-footed, Arvydas Sabonis style.
I've got a similar goal to you. I'm 6'1" and still dunking at 45 yo. Every year I make sure I can still do it. I think 50 is realistic. We'll see.
I turn 55 in 3 days. This is awesome . I am about 6’1”. You have given me a new goal
Thats very impressive! Gives me hope that i’ll still be able to dunk as i get older
dont know your age or hight, but i am 62 and was a good dunker in my prime only 6.2 feet tall. Now my goal is to dunk next summer at 62 years old! last summer i could just touch the lower side of the rim, so if i do the right exercises lose some weights i think its 50 percent chance to do the easiest dunk at 10 feet. Fun to have goal to do the sometimes boring exercises.....My lastt real dunk was when i was 47, but then some injuries, they are gone now so just hope........
✊🏾impressive! Going to try my annual attempt pretty soon too.
Wow! I know a 6’4” high schooler who can’t dunk as well as this guy
I used to have a 6'5 friend and he can't even touch rim his vert is non existent
I haven't dunk Lord knows..this really encouraged me. I'm not 50 but mid way near it. I might try to dunk this weeking seeing this😊
Would love to know the exercises you did by the way! Maybe a video about them?
Respect 💪🏾🇺🇲
That was fantastic!
Wow! You still got hops! Great video.....
I’m 59 and I feel like I’m 18. But I’m only 5’ 10”. However, I can bench 300 lbs pretty easily. And at 50 I was squatting 495 lbs twice with no belt, and I weighed 250 pounds.
Don’t let age trick your mind into thinking you’re old! I workout 45 minutes six times a week burning over 780 calories on an elliptical machine. You just have to keep MOVING!
Great dunk. Come back at 60 and do it again!
That's impressive as fuck, even the misses.
Amazing. Keep it up. I could only imagine your leaner dunk at 25-30.
Very inspiring!
Great job man..im 56 and no way I don't even think I can touch the rim any more. Again Great job
I’m 60. Still beating 20 yr olds one v one and in 21. But …. It’s hard man!!! 😅
50+ year olds are different now than they were back then. Nice job!
Looked like a real dunk to me. Bravo 👏
I know how you feel. I've always wanted to dunk and now almost 50, I believe if I put in the work, I'll get there.
Dunking at 54 is actually impressive.
20 years and 40 pounds ago, I could dunk. I was a track and field athlete, mostly distance events. I'm only 5' 11" and could out rebound most of the tall guy, having said that rebounding is about timing and boxing out. Good luck in your quest.
If I even say that work, my knees start hurting. Greab job, bro.
Keep going brother 💪🏿
2 hand dunk next!
That’s sick bro for real!
Great job devil dog. How tall are you? I had the same goal last year before I turned 50 but never focused in...now headed to 51 in a month and at 270 lbs and 5'11..touching the net might be a challenge 😅
I'll never forget the first time I went straight up off both feet and grabbed the rim. It came as a surprise because the best I could do is barely touch rim with one hand. It's an amazing feeling to accomplish. I was a junior in high school at 5'10". It wasn't until 3 years later at 6'0" age 19 i started dunking with a 39 inch vertical. It's hard getting there and once I accomplished that feat, I gave up after about a 3 week period of dunking. Never in a game but it was a goal of mine as a kid.
Good stuff ! Salute
Great Job 👍 WIN WIN !!! 😁👍
Wow... the most impressive video I've seen in 2023.
Nice dunk brother.
Great job. Good foot work
You did that bro !!!
