I quit my job in the corporate world in 2004, moved out of my apartment, gave away my possessions, and moved into my truck. Today in Dec 2024, I still live in that same truck and couldn't be happier.
@@ladyllf48 It's easy. I save a ton of money by not paying rent. So I always have money to do what I want. I bought a Coleman stove to cook meals with, and I use it for heating in the winter. I pay 25 dollars a month for membership at Planet Fitness which is where I take showers at night. During the winter, I camp out in Arizona where it's warm. During the summer, I camp out in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho where temps are cooler. During the 20 years I've lived in my truck, I've written seven books about my life on the road, and I've done booksignings in several states.
First time here. OMG, Forget about quitting your job and lets talk about how beautiful you are. Gorgeous, healthy skin and you look so young and fabulous for 55. And your hair is to LIVE for!! I'm planning to retire at 52, only 6 years to go for me. Congrats.
Hi Reggi! I’m in awe of you. I have been wanting to quit corporate America and do my own thing for 3 years now but was scared. My fear has always been how would I provide for my daughters. I have a plan now and will implement it over the next 4 years. The goal is to “retire” from corporate life at 55. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so proud of you for creating a plan to make your dreams a reality. It’s never easy to step away, but having a strategy in place makes all the difference. Wishing you strength and success as you work toward retiring on your terms! 🩷
I was scared of retiring and I don't think anyone more than me was more prepared for retirement and could of retired at 55 and yet I keep falling to victim to the omy syndrome (one more year syndrome) until one day I just say screw and put in my two week notice......My hands were shaking before I hit the send key though because I knew being in tech for 20 yrs, there was no going back to a tech career....no more high salary unless I earned it through other means. But retiring at 58 was the best thing I could of done and only wish I had done it sooner. I let my fears rob me of a few additional years of happiness.
Hi Reggi! Great to hear your story and I'm glad you talk about preparing because that's extremely important. Years ago my husband told me if you're planning to leave a company and you don't want them to know right away, take personal things home a little at a time. Do it in a way that people don't notice anything different about your desk or office. Also never talk to 'anyone' about your plans to leave before you go (the wrong person may hear and your leave date may be sooner than you want). He said he had to do this when he accepted a position at another company. The same concept applies even if you're not planning to go work for someone else. The preparation I put in place helped things to transition smoothly and I never missed or regretting leaving.
Sis...you are absolutely gorgoues. Nos sure where "55" is...but you are wearing it well!!! I am at that point in my life...I am ready to quit working. Retirement funds are doing what they do. Growing-I keep running numbers. LOL. We are just building liquidity now. You can always find a job if you decide that is what you want/need to do. You are right. God has you! Continue to trust Him always!!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

Caretaker here too! Work from home full time and on a weight loss journey, have lost 21 pounds, have 60 lbs to go. My goal is to consistently work out and strength train. I need to feel better physically and emotionally, it's weighing me down. Would love to do what you're doing but I rely on my job for my health insurance and income. I am thinking of having a side gig, but as you know, caretaking is a full time job, even on your days off. Staying prayerful, my trust in the Lord is keeping me grounded. I know He is with me. 🙏
You’re amazing!!! ❤thank you for sharing. I want to quit my 9-5. I’m working on my plan. Looks like it may take about 2 more years. I appreciate the quality content.
Thank you for being candid about your situation. I have this to share with all listeners: When it comes to living authentically, we cannot copycat or follow the blueprint of another life. It is okay to share experiences and utilize parts that fit us but ultimately, each person has the awesome task of finding their own path because hopes, desires, and needs differ. This requires deep introspection, honesty, and a willingness to do the work. Quieting the noises in our heads and around us, it is possible to embark on an amazing journey of self-discovery. Do the work, find your own path, and pray for the courage to begin your journey. May God bless your decision to self-actualize. Feel the fear and do it anyway; it is the only path to true, lasting happiness and joy.
Wow, this is such a beautifully expressed message. I absolutely agree…finding our own path and embracing the unique journey is so important. Thank you for sharing these words of wisdom; they’re so uplifting! 🙏🏽❤️
Hi Reggi, I found your channel a couple weeks ago. I’m now a subscriber! Love your content. This is so timely. There are so many of us that have worked in corporate, over extended ourselves because of the “taxes” we had to pay. In turn we got burned out/sick due to unreasonable work expectations, raising a family and becoming a caregiver to aging parents. I’m there. At 62 I was part of a reduction in work force. I saw it coming and made a plan. Yes the reduction in income is scary, but I know I’m a planner, resilient, and know how to live a decent meaningful life. For the 1st time, Im prioritizing myself while taking care of 2 sick parents. Thank you for creating a platform where we can learn together. 🙏🏾❤️
Hi Cynthia, welcome to the channel, and thank you for subscribing! Your story resonates so deeply as we have walked similar paths of burnout and caregiving. I have a theory about modern day burnout, maybe for another video. Although I admire your strength and resilience in making a plan and prioritizing yourself amidst it all. Together, we’ll keep learning and finding ways to create meaningful lives. Sending love and support your way! 🩷💪🏽
Omg you just describe my life.....trying being the only bw on teams of all wm....ugghhh. I worked in IT for twenty years in the most stressful industries like healthcare and financial services companies like Barclays, Deloitte Touché and other small brokerages.......the pay was astronomical but the stress was killing me. Once I was financially able to, I actually did a step down approach to retirement. I quit the very stressful high paying jobs and I took lower paying but lot less stressful jobs. Unfortunately those jobs keep me in corporate longer although they were less stressful.
I also had two sick parents at the same time in two different states. Both of my parents were in and out of the hospital. My brother was in one state taking care of my mom and I was in another state helping to take care of my father.....they actually both passed away in the same year. My father passed away at the beginning of the year and my mom passed away at the end of the year.....and I had the honor of being with both of them when they took their last breath. I was the last face both of my parents saw when they passed away and although bittersweet.......I got a chance to help them both transition. I held their hands to the end and was softly telling them it was okay to let go and that family and friends were waiting for them.
@ what a blessing you and your brother were to both parents. You have the best gift of knowing you did everything you could for them. That means no great or wish you “should have.” Now that’s real love and peace. I will have that. Reggi you have that. And I’m sure others will or have that already.
Stay encouraged! God is using you to empower others to step out on faith with work too. I have been committed to the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) path for quite some time and still believe it’s the best path for me. I will be retiring in 18 months @ 48years old. The 9-5 work schedule for 40-50 years is outdated. Group economics work. That’s all the stock market is. We just have to integrate it at a micro level. That may require us to move in with a roommate, share memberships, travel in groups, shop with another family at Costco to reduce our expenses then shift that money into investments. It can be done we just have to start somewhere and think out of the box of our cultural norms
