Unsolicited strawberry advice: I found out this year that it’s healthy to eat the green part, and now that I eat the whole strawberry, I can’t believe I ever cut the leaves off. But, If you decide to continue that way, grab a pairing knife and put your index finger on the back side near the tip and scoop out the stem and leaves rather than cutting off the tops. Much less waste of the ripe sweet red stuff!

I'm retired and discourage my family from buying me electronic items that require batteries and maintenance calls. I use everything up until there's no worth left in it. Or else I give it to a charity or someone who can use it. I had a huge bag of old bedding and towels I was planning to give to an animal shelter. But a lady who takes her family tent camping several days each summer asked if she could have them to use for the kids on these trips. I was glad to find a purpose for them as I had plenty already that I used for cleaning cloths instead of paper towels. It's surprising how many ways you can repurpose items around the house!

Listen: I am a South African State Pensioner on an income of ZAR 2190 per month plus a very small side hustle (I make milktarts!). I never even THOUGHT of saving. On THAT amount? Anyway, a good friend sat me down one day and suggested that I actually COULD save. 'Are you NUTS!' I thought, but agreed to give it a try. R300 a month was what we agreed on and because I trust her I handed her the envelopes to put in her safe. It's now December and I am up to date on my savings. R3600 for the year and because the milktarts sell VERY WELL during the December holidays I think I can give her another R400 before the end of the year, which will bring it up to R4000. Can be done! Also, my mindset has become such that I will not TOUCH that money until I really, really really need it, by which time I hope it will have grown even more. I am hoping, next year, to do a Level 5 TEFL course... EDIT: I finished the year (3rd January actually!) with R6500. The milktarts sold VERY well...)

To save on groceries I use the most, I actually did the math on which places I could buy from in bulk to get the cheapest price. Some things are cheaper online, some from a discount grocery store, and others from a bulk grocer where I split the annual membership cost with several friends. Some discount grocery stores also have *literally* the same products but they will be about 1/4 the price because they're not brand name. The difference has been big enough that I am always shocked to hear how much some of my friends spend on groceries bc they are still going to the more expensive grocery stores for essentials that you could literally buy anywhere else for much cheaper. It also means that when I want the more expensive/brand name items that are full price, I can buy them without worrying about the cost since the bulk of my food shopping is super cheap.
I can't appreciate your content enough. I wish I could tell you how much this life style and your content has helped me so far in my life and with the perspective of things in life. Thank you so much friend. Will always be your permanent audience.
I purchased a high powered blender, I have saved money by making my own juices, icecream, salad dressings and sauces. Bonus much healthier and tastier eating fresh produce. ❤
I’ve already been applying the first tip, came here to find more tips so I was surprised about the first one! I have already saved up for the next renewal of my yearly bus subscription and I’m saving up for certain amounts for healthcare and medication. I call these saving up for practical stuff, which I don’t know anyone else does. And if there’s something I need, which costs a bit much but don’t necessarily need asap, I’m gonna buy it after saving up for it for 6 months to a year or more depending on the price. Another great thing I do is I think about what I want to buy for about a week, and usually, I won’t want it anymore. A nice little bonus is that I always calculate how much money I need to save each month to get something. Say something costs 15 dollars and you want to buy it after 3 months of saving. That’s 15 divided by 3 which is 5. You need to save 5 dollars every month. It’s great to know! I also budget in a certain way, in a way that I save a bit more money than what I calculated, and that I always will have a minimum amount of money left each month. But my comment is already too long, maybe I can explain it in a reply.

Hi Nicholas. With our already "spartan" apartment, if we don't need it, we don't buy it. We also run on the Meal/not Snack program. It saves a bundle on groceries. We eat a "set dinner menu" each week, so we only buy what we are going to cook. This is our very first "Minimalist Intentional Christmas" so we are not spending on family, nor are we spending boat loads of money on each other. Just a couple of gifts for each, which has really made a serious difference this year already, and it isn't even Christmas yet. We've already pre-purchased our Christmas dinner, so that is already "in the bag" so to speak. Our debt is also paid off. So every penny earned is a penny saved. With a minimalist view towards money, we are saving more than we are spending which took a while to get down. Budget, Budget, Budget !!!
Great video as always sir - I can absolutely relate to graze eating when I am a home. When I am on the road for about 30 weeks of the year, I am very regimented in my eating habits which helps me avoid overeating and grazing. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to next week as always!
Loved this! Im a sen ior citizen and was raised w very little. When life hit me with a very bad event, I was able to keep my head above water bcz id always lived very frugally. Eating at home has always been an easy one for me. Each morning I pack our coffee, breakfast, snacks and lunch. We eat all our leftovers and do portion control. We eat loads of fish, chicken, veggies and fruit being sure to make enough to feed it to our senior citizen pooch. What is my weakness? The fabric store:(
Great watch. He’s healthy and smart. I now pay no attention to coffee places everywhere, I can wait til home. You then get to use your money on something else should you wish to. Say…a store bought cupcake but your own coffee. Or make your own tasty fat cookie with the money you saved. Eating basic food makes you feel like you were made for this! 😊

For me was batch cooking, quit drinking all together, and look for penny expenses to cut out, soda for example, also before buying something new take a look at market place or thrift stores, I bought a new office chair for 50 dlrs retail price was 300+
great tips. Avoiding consumer credit is huge - interest and fees are expensive and wasteful. Re streaming: we use one streaming service at a time, and just wait for that new show.
Nice video 👍. One tip i have is the husband and I set a budget and try to live within it. There are some months of unforeseen expenses where we dip into savings. However, most months there is a little surplus left-- as in if the budget is say 2000€ a month and there's 50 or 70 quid left over to that amount on the first of the following month, I treat myself to something nice. The husband is not too keen on that method, but i like it. It's like an incentive for me to save:).

When deciding between paying off debt and saving, I picked the one with the higher interest rate. I’m currently putting away money in a savings account to pay off a debt because the interest rate on that debt is calculated and applied once a year so I’m okay provided I pay it off before that date.
Question for the chat. Garbage removal in my area is $20 and Recycling is an additonal $10. we never end up filling either bin by the time pickup is scheduled so I wonder: is it worth while to forego Recycling all together to save the extra $10?
Interesting question. The big picture is keeping the recycling can have long term benefits for the earth (if done properly). That will benefit you too. If the 10.00 extra per month isn't any sort of hardship, my suggestion is to keep it. If it's tight, forego it. You can always add it back on at a later time. Whatever gives you that "gut check" peace.

The answer to the debt part will always be to pay it off first based on the interest. If it's debt that's accruing 0 interest, then it's not worth paying earlier. Otherwise, yes, it has to go ASAP.

I fully agree with paying debts first. Set up a small emergency fund and stay focused only on paying debt until it's down to zero. For example, if you have a $300 credit card debt and $300 in savings, it's better to pay the credit debt first. By doing that, you'll make up, then exceed that $300 immediately and it will keep rising. Because you're no longer paying interest or spreading your money so thinly across different accounts, you will really notice the difference after just one month.

Re: Paying off debt: An often touted financially wise decision is balancing saving/paying off (if your debts are below the prime rate, e.g. 4-6% like student loans). By putting these funds into a HYSA or index fund, you could be breaking even or even doing slightly better while building an investment. This is why paying these debts fall later in the personal finance flowcharts. Thanks for offering your perspective though, I think there’s a mental aspect of carrying any amount of debt that can cause stress or influence our behavior. Humans were never meant to be in debt.

debt often has a higher interest rate than the interest you can accrue on savings. often, you're losing money by not paying the debt first.
most savings accounts give you 0.01%, high yield ones maybe give 5%. Credit card debt is usually 15-30% interest and car loans are 10-20% interest
💯 Recommend paying off debt. I had around 80k worth of debt. And after 3 years I am almost debt free. Margin is everything when saving.
That’s awesome.

But, If you decide to continue that way, grab a pairing knife and put your index finger on the back side near the tip and scoop out the stem and leaves rather than cutting off the tops. Much less waste of the ripe sweet red stuff!
You can also dry the strawberry cap and use it in your bulk tea blends.

I will continue my No Buy Challenge til the next years to come 😊 Thank you for being one of my inspirations 😊 I'm happy of what I have now
Good luck and thank you!!
Great work seeking to improve even more!!

Congratulations on your journey! 😊❤
That’s awesome!! Might have to take that idea of pre planning the dinner.
Man, I love your videos dude. Never change 😂
Thanks Spencer!!
Amazing and very informative video! I still struggle with the small daily purchases.
Stay home more often.
Great video as always sir - I can absolutely relate to graze eating when I am a home. When I am on the road for about 30 weeks of the year, I am very regimented in my eating habits which helps me avoid overeating and grazing. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to next week as always!
Kudos to you, I’d be snacking too much if I were in the car that long!!
The fabric store:(
That's awesome, sounds like you're a pro at living frugally.

Yes! i have the book Wabi Sabi by Beth Kempton 🎉
I too have found that I eat less if I just make myself stop & eat a real lunch instead of snacking all day long. Less calories as well. 😀
I guess in North America we are driven by the need for success(usually meaning making masses of cash) it’s driven into us from a young age, competitiveness. Makes for ending in a big ball of stress!

My tip is do a yearly budget to see where big one off expenses come due eg car insurance🐳
Agreed about canceling when a show it over 😄
Great advice. Thanks for sharing

Don't think I've ever been this early to a video, nice

What about 5%

I fully agree with paying debts first. Set up a small emergency fund and stay focused only on paying debt until it's down to zero. For example, if you have a $300 credit card debt and $300 in savings, it's better to pay the credit debt first. By doing that, you'll make up, then exceed that $300 immediately and it will keep rising. Because you're no longer paying interest or spreading your money so thinly across different accounts, you will really notice the difference after just one month.

I’m about ready to do away with one of the three subscriptions I pay for so that pans out. I’m working on cutting out the Starbucks. I get a latte once a week instead of two. It really is a legal drug. ☕️. I totally understand the need to reward one’s self everytime we pass our happy place. Once we get past Christmas I should be in the green again for savings. 💸
Caffeine is the legal drug 😅
@ Amen. Also as a fellow gamer I’m curious. Do you have a gaming budget? I have quite the backlog. I might be able to try not buying any of that for a year and curb my habit Video games make Starbucks look cheap sometimes 🫠

Hey, the 2000 pesos bill 😭
Re: Paying off debt: An often touted financially wise decision is balancing saving/paying off (if your debts are below the prime rate, e.g. 4-6% like student loans). By putting these funds into a HYSA or index fund, you could be breaking even or even doing slightly better while building an investment. This is why paying these debts fall later in the personal finance flowcharts. Thanks for offering your perspective though, I think there’s a mental aspect of carrying any amount of debt that can cause stress or influence our behavior. Humans were never meant to be in debt.
