    Hi Pete. Finally got to use this gun last weekend. It sprayed sealer, waterborne base coat, and a 4:1 clear coat beautifully. The finish was smooth as glass with no cut and buff required. Your gun settings worked perfectly! Cheers!

      Hi Buddy, It's a really good little gun. It's certainly a mini gun but great for more precision with smaller parts . Thanks for letting us know, mate, as it helps others to get an idea of what to expect , cheers 👍

    Thanks Pete. Super interested in these Porphis guns and I was about to ask the PPS question when you answered it. That's definitely something they need to sort, but if they do they're a compelling proposition.

      Hi Mate, Yes, I'm sure they will as it will be holding sales of the gun back. It's a very good gun, so there's no reason people shouldn't buy it, but that is one. Cheers 👍

    Hi Pete, for the sides of motorcycle parts i always turn the aircap a quarter turn and spray up/down (and sideways ofcourse) instead of only sideways like i see most people do including you. It's instantly wet in one pas and much less ovespray this way. I hope you get what i mean.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Месяц назад

      Hi Harold, Yes, I do get what you are saying, however, a couple of reasons I don't do it.
      I'm not sure it makes a difference, as you can just turn the work the other way instead of the spray cap, but, more importantly, I notice on many spray guns, the atomisation will deteriorate when the cap is turned by as much as 90 degrees, this is because on most guns the air enters the cap at the top, or bottom of the gun, so a disproportionate amount of air comes out of one side of the cap.
      At the end of the day, it's all about getting the results you want. It sounds like it's working perfectly for you, so that's what matters, thanks, mate. I appreciate it 👍

    • @Harolddespui
      @Harolddespui Месяц назад

      @@peteshobbies5383 Shouldn't the airdistribution ring behind the cap take care of that?
      Food for an investigation video Pete! 😂
      I think many people don't realise that the gun (could) spray different if you turn the aircap differently.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Месяц назад

      @Harolddespui Yes, it's an idea for a video. When I get time, I will experiment more. The baffles are all shaped, so I suspect they are all shaped in a way that makes it optimal for the air horns at 90 degrees to the gun body rather than parallel, I will look into it more when I can, cheers buddy 👍

    Hi Pete, now that looks a fantastic little mini gun as it laid the clear down beautifully👌from what I could see on your bench it has a nice wet fan pattern which is not to big so it makes it a good gun for smaller parts, when painting the parts you were doing a big fan isn't always the best thing to have. As you mentioned it doesn't seem to put out to much overspray which is good if you are painting in your garage plus it doesn't use to much air👍
    I've been using my PRD717 this morning and I'm beginning to find that it likes to be used a bit like the X5500 CC as in painting a bit closer than you would with the Fuji or ProLite🤔I find it brings the fan in a bit without the need to adjust it giving it a wetter pattern, I'm also thinking this would be a better gun with the 1.4 tip (I think that's what you use) so I might get one along with the PRD-715 tip set🤔
    Thanks Pete a very enjoyable video👏👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi John, It's a lovely little mini gun mate, well made, not expensive, and gives excellent results.
      As I was saying in the video, it's not a big fan gun, so trying to be a do it all mini, it's much more of a precision mini, so ideal for smart repairs, even scale model builders would fine it really useful.
      Yes, when I ordered my first PRD717, I went for 1.4 as I thought the gun would be slower. All the split tip guns are so a 1.4 setup does speed it up.
      I often say to people, if you can afford it, the PRD715 is a good gun to get alongside the 717, simply because it is so different, the 715 is, as you know, super fast and such fun to use, cheers mate, thanks as always 👍

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah it looks a nice gun mate and as you say the price is good for what you get. I think with some mini guns having a smaller fan can be a good thing as you don't want all the paint missing your project when the fan is bigger than the item you are painting and like you I prefer to use my guns at full fan and full fluid as that is how they are designed to work👍
      I wish now that I got it in a 1.4 but I seem to remember that the 1.4 in the blue was out of stock so I just got that rather than waiting for it😁🙄 it's a shame you can't buy just the tip as I would have thought the aircap and possibly needle is the same🤔but I will get the 1.4 tip set for it and get a PRD715 1.3 tip set for it as well, cheers mate👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 месяца назад +1

      @JohnWD40TC02 I ended up getting both the 1.3 and 1.4, What happens I think, is because the pressure you can use it at is quite low, obviously that reduces the amount of material flowing through, so a 1.3 can seem slow, the 1.4 helps with this, it's the same with the LPH400 and Wider4L, the 1.4 is the way to go if your using low pressure, cheers mate 👍

The reason I asked was ,I have a devilbiss viscosity cup from the 1970s, which has a step about a quarter of an inch from the top, and I wasn't sure if this was where you should fill it to or the top of the cup. I will experiment now and see the results. Again, many thanks.

    Beautiful finish Pete, as always. Interesting video, plenty of info as always.
    I see in another comment you're going to do a top 10 kind of thing. I've seen another one you did, top 12, which was really good. But I wonder if you did a top 10/20 etc, but without taking the gun cost into account, would people find that useful? So you'd rank the guns from 1 to 10 ir 20 based on performance, so i could look and say Pete's number 6 gun is affordable to me, whereas i would love the number 5 etc, but it's more expensive and i couldn't justify spending that kind of money.
    Just a thought. Thanks as always, the most interesting spray painting channel I've found.

      Hi Dominic, I was planning on using a similar scoring system to the one I did on the mini guns, but I'm going out of 10 per section rather than 5.
      I think the best gun normally ends up at the top anyway because it's not price it's marked on, it's value for money really which is different, if a gun is very expensive but really good, it's still good value for money

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  3 месяца назад

      Hi buddy, It's quite different. The 510 is more like a full-size gun with a small tip. It flows more material than this, uses more air, is physically much bigger, and generally more of everything.
      The 510 is very good and can be made into a full-size 1.3 gun with a tip and cap set. The MPH338 is much more suited to smaller, more delicate work. What do you want the gun for mainly?
