      Come on man the first genesis didn't look dumb, persay that's a little harsh.
      it's a beautiful elegant simple design. However it and the Eqquis just lack personality, that they didn't find untill after the genesis rebrand. (Photoshop an older lexus Mercedes or Acura or buick grill in place of the Hyundai original...anyway the superman grill is debated, buy it gives genesis/Hyundai premium the brand identity and personality it needed (the new 2 bar lights don't hurt either). Simple elegant designs, but the soul of old school GTA cars, if the TAU 4.6 5.0 wer as bulletproof as th 1UZ or if there is enough aftermarket support to keep them from hitting the scrap heap. The well maintained ones are still running. 🤷🏿‍♂️

    I own 2016 Equis Ultra. Absolutely love it. Amazing in every way. Sound system is stunning! 25 mpg at 75 mph on regular gas.
    Unbeatable value at current used car prices.
    Much more reliable than the money pit Mercedes, Audis, BMWs and Jaguars.

      Awesome. I’m considering a 2014 Ultra, and these kinds of comments sway me towards getting one. My things I don’t like include the gas mileage, but I’ve seen two comments that say mid-high 20 mpg. Also, I’ve read that you can use regular gas, with a slight performance decrease, and given how much performance the car has, I don’t mind that. So yeah, I just might get the Equus I’m eyeing that’s about $15k. Unbeatable to almost any car you can get for the money.

    I have a 2013 Equus Signature. The owner's manual says that I have 420hp with regular gas. Which I use exclusively. I need the extra 9 hp like a hole in the head. Also Sport mode, which you didn't mention changes the throttle and gearing algorithms and makes the car a monster. The air suspension, which is standard adjusts the shocks in real time while cornering. So it handles in the corners very well. Also I can raise the car 3 inches if going through deep water. The 17 speaker stereo, made by LEXICON is the same one that was used in the 2017 Rolls Royce drop head coupe. I've done professional sound work, If you set it up right, it definitely holds it own against anything. And as far as status is concerned many people admire the car and ask about it. It has heated and cooled seats. There is one glaring difference between my Equus and a Mercedes. The Mercedes is expensive to maintain and now not reliable. At least according to my Mercedes mechanic.

      About 2 years ago a Teenager rear ended my 2012 Equus and totaled it...And with the insurance money I bought a another 2012 Equus... My plan was to get a 2014 ultimate... But the more I looked at the 14 and up I made my decision because 11,12 and 13 to me look that much better... The extra Chrome in the front and back of the car and the 19" Chrome rims that they purposely made to look just like the ones from the Bentley and are the best set of rims on a car to this day... Do yourself a favor and look how much the 2012 and 13 rims cost compared to the 14 in up rims... OK I'm done talking about my Equus that I love so much... One more thing...when using regular gas I really think we lose about 30 horsepower instead of 9 horsepower... I can definitely tell the difference when I got my girl filled up with the good stuff.

    As an EQUUS owner, I am very happy. As a 2016 model year, there have been no problems and no electrical issues. The EQUUS lineage dates back to 1999 and were sold in other continents, but not in America. I don't see competition between Lexus and Hyundai as both name plates are respected in Asia, which is the largest car market. Europe and the U.S. are lovingly irrelevant in terms of determining the direction of which luxury maker will reign supreme. To me, what's more relevant, in terms of competition, are the Asian luxury makers versus European luxury models. It's a new world order. Deal with it,

I've done minor repairs. Does burn about 1.5 qts of oil every 3k miles which is common on mosy high mileage engines especially direct injected engines but nothing can compete with it for the price. Had it's first oil leak at 237k miles driver valve cover gasket. I love that nobody knows what this car is. I wish the transmission felt as aggressive as my SRT8 was but love this car.

    I have a 2014 Equus in the Ultimate trim. I bought it with 180,000 km (110,000 miles to you Americans & Britons) in November 2020; it now has almost 240,000 km (150,000 miles), and I love it as much as I did when I first got it (perhaps more!) Even though, as it's a daily driver, it has lots of stone chips on the front bumper and scratches here and there, I find its appearance striking- stately, like a full size luxury sedan should be. On the inside, it's super comfortable and spacious enough for me, my wife, son, and dog (a Lab), with lots of trunk space too. There've been a few maintenance issues, but nothing too serious, at least yet (at this mileage, no warranty, of course). And by the way, the previous owner and I have only ever used regular fuel, and particularly in Sport mode, it still pulls impressively on highway on-ramps. It sold new in Canada for $72,000- I got it for just under $20,000, and that's a lot of car for the money :)

    Love the Equus. Always thought it was a budget LS. I like in a way, cars that fly under the radar. I don’t like always having the same thing as the next person, like you see a million NX’s and RX’s. If I were to ever be able to afford an S-class, I’d have to change the wheels or something to make it unique. I love the current G90, a lot due to it not being seen so much compared to a Bimmer or Merc. Not sure I love, love the redesign G90 just yet, but will wait and see. I’d definitely get an Equus or G90, if I could afford the maintenance. As much as I once used to love Lexus, and they are fine products, don’t get me wrong. I just love having something that’s cheaper for one, and that people will wonder what it is, since not many are on the road.

  • @faznout
    @faznout Год назад +4

    The Hyundai Equus had a very short 5/6 year run in America, but it was actually in production for 17 years over seas. So it had a very long run before they discontinued it. But people have to remember just because an automaker discontinues a vehicle due to low sales doesn't mean it was a bad car mechanically or otherwise. All that means is either buyers started to lose interest, it didn't take off in sales as they hoped it would, or the automaker was ready to move on to something new. And that applies to all automakers. But people have to stop buying into just because they go online and hear "someone" bad mouth a car that means it's a bad car to buy. There are automakers like BMW and Land Rover who continue to make brand new cars with a whole list of "brand new" mechanical problems just as their previous generations had. But millions of people continue to go out and buy those cars (new or used) without question knowing the negative history of the automaker. Point is give the Eqqus a break. Cause it's nice separate yourself from the group and drive a big luxury car that not everyone else has out on the road, like an old beat up Lexus LS, an s-class or a broken down on the side of the road 7 series.

I was in Costco gas line across from me was a G90 and we both loved our cars. The guy said the same thing he gets complements on his car all the time. It's not about how much your car cost, it's about quality for what you paid for it. I was stationed in Germany nearly 5 years and I've been in so many German cars that it removed any appeal for them when I came back to the states. In Germany a Mercedes, BMW and Audi are literally TAXIS Cabs! And according to German's (their words not mine) the cars made outside of Germany are not the same as the ones they make for themselves. Last the low end Mercedes cars for the price people pay for them is crazy! You paid how much for that 4 cylinder?

    I haven't driven the Hyundai, but the 460, although it was a little staid, and its true that Lexus didn't step out too far in the design etc., was simply so well screwed or glued together, that you just knew you were driving something really great. If Hyundai emulated that design and build, that imitation is the best compliment you can give the Lexus. I know they are not exciting or carry the panache of the Mercedes etc. With that said they do in my mind just have a totality that I love. I've kept my LS 500 longer than I usually keep a car because I just still love the interior, and the car overall. I just feel in a Lexus that if I can get fuel I can drive around the world. The Lexus store and service is just unbelievable every time. I had an issue in Ft. Myers and the GM of the store called me on a Sunday to resolve. That is part of what I am buying. Hats off to Hyundai, but with Lexus the overall equation is hard to surpass.

    I feel like Hyundai/Genesis brand is starting to make some extremally attractive vehicles for the price point and quality vs Toyota/Lexus products. I think Toyota and Lexus maybe have been too conservative in their approach lately especially when it comes to new technologies compared to the Hyundai/Kia brand.
    Genesis, especially the G90 simply blows away any current Lexus model. Genesis finally has a signature look with wonderful interiors for their price point. They are truly surpassing Lexus as being the more prestigious and exciting to own. I think the days of when a Lexus vehicles were truly special has sort of past on by, and now Genesis has taken over that crown
    I've owned my 07 LS460 L for a little over a year now, and so far it's been very reliable, and it still runs so smooth at 143,000 miles. Everything still works and it feels so solid to drive. I guess I will say that time will tell if the Genesis brand can be as reliable as a Lexus. If they can manage to build luxury vehicles to last hundreds of thousands of miles and they still run like new, then they will be on to something truly special.

      Yea I mean both companies are great I find Lexus to be a very high quality car without taking too many risks. They’re just really satisfying out on the street.
      Interesting thing about the 07-12 LS models is how quiet the engine is. It’s 3 decibels quieter than the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe.
      But I agree when it comes to next level motoring the G90 is pretty phenomenal and the brand is doing some amazing things right now

    • @CA-nm7mb
      @CA-nm7mb 2 года назад +1

      @@MeynMotorGroup I feel you Kevin, Lexus is still great and has been a mainstay for years, you can never go wrong with the brand. I didn't know the engine was quieter than a Rolls Phantom! That's pretty amazing. BTW the Equus is nice, but it looks too much like a S-Class rip off to me. The LS has a higher quality looking interior as well, more quality wood trim and accents. I remember years ago (pre-Covid days) I would attend auto shows locally that you could check out and sit in all the latest vehicles. The Equus was one of them, including the S-Class, 7-Series, Lex LS460, Audi A8, and I remember between them all and after sitting inside them all, the Audi A8 and Lexus LS of this generation had the nicest feeling quality interior, even over the S-Class in certain areas. The Audi having the highest quality feeling and looking interior by far, with the LS a close second place while the 7 Series and S-Class feeling way overpriced for the materials that you got. What separated them however, was in their technology, performance and features this is where the S-Class was king. The Equus was ok, but not as nice as the LS.
      After owning my LS460, I don't think I can ever go back to a basic sedan ever again. Or any other vehicle that doesn't have a V8 and is RWD and rides as smooth as my car. You get so pampered and used to all the creature comforts of an LS or any flagship vehicle for that matter that it makes everything else on the road less worthy to drive. I don't think I can ever sell my LS because of how loaded it is, and it's overall wonderful condition for it's age. Most other vehicles that are almost 15 years old look like trash and are beat to hell, but Lexus vehicles hold up so nicely for years and never truly feel completely stale.
      I needed an LS to own because of how horrible the infrastructure and road conditions are here in San Diego. Our streets are absolutely horrendous to drive on with potholes size of missile strikes, and are seriously, rough, uneven lopsided pavement that it's actually dangerous to drive on. So having an LS really helps to own because it takes bumps in strides, but it's not perfect and it can't take every pothole like a champ because of bad they are here. Sometimes I worry about breaking the control arms on my car that's how bad many of our streets are. Now I know why so many people own trucks and SUV's out in SD, to be able to handle the war torn streets of San Diego.

      Yes Chris, I think the Genesis is a classy well put together car, as you stated, I just want to see if they will be as durable as Lexus. If they do that I will co-sign. I’ve owned some top of the line luxury vehicles and none have stood up to my Lexus’ as far as miles and durability. Even Benz and Bmw have been sub par in newer years. The dealerships at Lexus even shows more care for their products and owners than most….

      Genesis has already "arrived" as it were. The EQUUS luxury lineage dates back to 1999 but those luxury vehicles weren't sold in the States or Canada, at least not until 2009 with the Genesis and 2011 with the EQUUS.
      With regards to Quality, Genesis definitely holds its own against the British and German marques in terms of resale value and long term reliability. While most viewers of this channel may never have held an international plane ticket 🎫🎟️ and travelled abroad to Europe or Asia, it's the Asian market (because of shifting economic and political dynamics) now that will determine which luxury marque(s) will reign supreme. Regarding road quality in San Diego, try driving through roads in the East Coast with the snow and salt and see how those conditions decimate roads.
      One last point: The EQUUS is not a rip off of the S class Mercedes. The styling of my EQUUS was guided by engineering specs such as drag and aerodynamics, similar to how the French Concorde and Soviet Tu144 looked similar in design.

    yay, another LS video... lol dang the Lexus looks 100x better but is really falling short here on performance which I'm not gonna lie is disappointing. My 08 LS460 only has 6 HP less so at that point its like what's the point? I don't really NEED that much fancy technology in the interior and quite frankly I've seen a mod that is a wild upgrade to the infotainment system where you can watch youtube and do like everything for just $500. Granted you won't have tv's in the back, but it's whatever. Could just buy an ipad attachment for my 3 year old and he wouldn't even care lol it is a gorgeous car inside and out though. Totally agree with you on the status thing & I think that Hyundai is ugly tbh and would never buy one but I will admit they are coming in hot with the genesis and that g90 you mentioned. I saw a genesis coupe at the gas station recently and it was a v6 twin turbo with less horsepower than my car but it looked really beautiful, like I was impressed. I gotta say though I do disagree with you when you say no one buys these cars to go fast. I mostly work from home and often don't have to drive much so idrc about gas (though I despise our current administration), I did buy this car knowing it had power and with every intention of using it. See I believe I can have my cake and eat it too, so it's not uncommon you will smell burnt rubber after I park my vehicle cause I often drive it like it's a sports car almost lol don't care, it has learned my style and in slapshift it is very very satisfying getting down on it. Very responsive. & at the same time I can put my 3 year old in his car seat in the back & drive normal.. ALSO this car WILL get upwards of 30MPG on the highway. Even upwards of 27MPG going 80 on interstate, so to me it is the best of both worlds
