  • Exactly How GOOD Was Glenn McGrath?
Glenn McGrath is one of the best bowlers of all time taking 949 wickets in his career. Even Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara FEARED him. He was not the fastest bowler on the pitch but still with his bounce, swing , line and length, he terrified the batsmen. He was one of the most important players for Australia during their dominance in the cricket world. But exactly how good was he? Let's have a look at McGrath's marvelous cricket career to know how he became the best bowler of his generation.

Glen Macgrath was 6 ft 5 in tall, he could easily extract huge bounce.
He was able to ball slight out swingers which made him deadly because of stump to stum line.
He could ball 140 but did so rarely because of tall height it would go to good length area , he would ball mostly Yorkers at that pace

I remember a commentator saying about McGrath, "Even if you woke him up from sleep at 3 A.M and asked to bowl, his line and length would've be dead accurate as ever".

A true legend and probably the finest pacer Australia produced after Dennis Lillee!
His ability to deliver in both Tests as well as ODIs is unparalleled. He possessed the ability to stand at the top in an era with competition like Akram, Waqar, Donald, Ambrose and Walsh.

    Good enough pace
    Insane accuracy
Can swing the ball both ways

Don't substitute speed for accuracy, how very true. Glenn was a thinking bowler who tried not to waste a ball, had one of the sweetest, smoothest actions. This new breed of bowlers would do well to follow his lead.

Pidgie, like Gilly, Phil Hughes & currently Joshy & Gazza are all from the NSW bush towns. For them to be tid is so extremely lucky but also shows how good they actually were/are & the talent they had. Normally the players are from Sydney, down south in the Gong & up north to where i am on the NSW Centy Coast & up to Newey but being from the bush with little populations is really hard to be seen.
Jimmy Anderson is nowhere near as good as Pidgie. Jimmy can pass him on wickets taken but Jimmy's played a lot more test matches than Pidgie.

otherwise batsman would just keep leaving the ball time and time again, nick to slip/ wicketkeeper or be bowled
among the recent lot, only Dale Steyn could match up to him

Curtly Ambrose any day of the week over McGrath. Langer and Hayden could only hack it at test level after he lost several yards of pace. Take the endless Ashes against a poor generation of English batsmen and a large helping of declining West Indies scalps and what does his record look like? Steyn did it against great Ausie, English and and Indian teams in their back yards. McGrath wouldn't make my top 3 Ausie bowlers.
