In my childhood we used to joke that Jayasurya became destructive when he began to go bald 😂😅.
Anyway in all seriousness , it was common to hear people say "Jayasurya has blasted us all over the ground." And if he was dismissed early then we had a great chance of winning. We would have a sigh of relief 😅.
Anyway i remembered the ipl of 2008 or 2009 when Mumbai Indians were not really playing well in few early matches 6 or 8 matches i believe , sachin was also not there due to injury but the moment Sachin arrived to bat after missing out all those matches due to injury . Jayasurya just hit a crazy blitzkrieg of a hundred😅❤ in that match and we won that match . I dont remember who were playing against but that was his only hundred in IPL and we had won that match after losing back to back matches at the start of IPL . I think it was chennai or hyderabad team , i am not sure now . But yes that knock convinced me that if T20 cricket arrived in 1999-2000 then Jayasurya would have been the best, heck he would have broke Afridi's record of quickest hundred also for sure.😂 Anyway i miss Jayasurya even more today when i see today's plight of Sri lanka in Cricket. I miss that old Sri Lanka team from 90s and 2000s . They had a lot of great matchwinners who could take the game away from you instantly. Anyway i believe Jayasurya was Sachin and Sehwag combined in a player sometimes with ball spinning abilty which was deceptive sometimes almost on level of Warne, murali etc.

The real change in his approach of slogging from ball 1 was brought about by Dav Whatmore who was Sri Lanka's coach for the 1996 World Cup. I like the way Jayasuriya used rhythmic tap on the pitch with the bat before facing the delivery.
    Just like 1 2 3 4
    1 2 3
    1 2 3 4
Checking his helmet, adjusting pads, tightning gloves for every single delivery.
And those flick shots for SIX were breathtaking.
I used to copy his batting style during my childhood days.
    Amazing Jayasuriya

The greatest dominant batsman at the crease of all times after Vivian Richards. Lucky to have seen most of the innings of this great stroke player. A genius timer of the ball. The greatest hand eye coordination player of all times.

As a 90's kid, I always thought why India doesn't have players like Jayasuriya. He was a proper batsman and a 10 over quota bowler. Since I started watching cricket from 1999, I can only think of 1 Indian player [Yuvraj Singh], who is capable of scoring a century and/or also bowl full 10 overs in an ODI match.

I am from India, a 90s kid, me and my friends we still talk about the fearsome opening partnership of Jaysuriya and Kaluvitharana, only to forget Kaluveetharana didnt score as much, it was Jaysuriya alone who used to destroy us. We never feared a batsman or even opening partnership more than them, not even Hayden Langer. Bloody not even Hayden alone, Jaysuriya was scariar than Matthew Hayden .That says a lot how good the guy was
    .
As a side note, you probably should do a video about Aravinda De Silva too. I may sound controversial, but for me, he is the best "Artist" Srilanka ever produced, may be the best batsman too 😊

Very true. Sanat Jayasuriya is the person who transformed ODI by batting in a different style in the first 10 overs by striking at high strike rate to give a flying start to the innings. He the the first batsman to hit over infield. The amazing batsman who was one of the main reason of their team winning ICC World Cup.

Back in 2017 as i remeber a commentator was introducing sanath as an Old guy when he comes out to bat. He was implying that it was time to retire. Next screen came up with last 5 innings of him. Last two innings were 150+ with less than 100 balls. One of them played in england too. The guy shut his mouth immidiately.

He is a natural born cricketer. I have no idea how his timing was so good. If you see, he never puts too much effort when hitting sixes, it was all pure timing. First SL player to conquer all format of the game as a batsman and scored highest for SL (Test - 340, ODI - 189, T20I - 80).

As a young boy who used to watch 90's cricket, the very sight of both Jayasuriya and Attapattu coming out to open the innings would give me shivers and nightmares. Used to pray a lot to get the guy out asap 🙏🏻😂Jayasuriya didn't care who was bowling and at what speed at all. He would easily pull and flick any bowler at his will and score boundaries for fun. He was the perfect opening batsman with a distinctive batting style of both elegance and destruction. For me he is the best opening batsman and the greatest all-rounder of all times. The game misses him so much these days 😔
