One thing seems true. From 1990s generations SOME batsmen from all teams have surely found easy ways to play only on Ind, they make stats, create records, get into the form lost, perform well only on Ind. Unfortunate thing is, this is still TILL DATE.
More unfortunate is, with the interference of corporates ruling cricket im Ind exclusively along with BCCI's and poor team selection, always Ind is suffering across formats. This is impacting IPL mostly played on our soil, becoming easy for all foreign players and are taking on us with ease, be it bowling or batting.
These days our batsmen are producing more results, but bowlers are not selected wisely. Everywhere there is politics ruling.
Our selection has always been poor, lots of politics. Good lot amount of worthy players out of 140 Cr population, hardly we see allrounders in team selected.
If u take a WestIndies, Aussies, SouthAfrica, England, NewZealand, SriLanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh also they still can bowl using potential 7 bowlers who can manage the entire match. This is also a fate our Ind suffering from.
These days I noticed Ind ARE NOT ASKED TO CHASE while they lose toss on any team, entire world knoes Ind can somehow chase these days.
Also ICC should make sure to include 3 Tests, 5 ODIs as mandatory thing even though 3 to 5 T20Is are scheduled in a bilateral series. This will save Tests and ODI formats also.
Recent Asia Cup is conducted only in T20I format, this is bad.

@@Deira854 Sri Lanka gained test status in 84. Though they were talented they didn't have the experience of playing elite cricket and what it takes to win. For example any one that plays county cricket, state cricket australia etc is taught at a young age about staying in the wicket and that a 100 is the ultimate goal.
Those early days the Lankan batsman didn't pay heed to statistics or knew how to build centuries. They were plenty of times Aravinda would go berserk in his 30s so as to improve the team scoring rate and give up his wicket. Plus Sri Lankan batsman/fans (used ) think attack is the best form of defence.
The turning point imo was Aravinda playing county cricket in 94 and there he learnt that centuries and staying in the wicket matters over style.
I think Aravinda, Arjuna, and Sanath were far mole talented than Sanga and Mahela. The reason Sachin is so good is cos he has Gavaskar to emulate, the Aussies had Bradman and others etc. or Aravinda and Sanath they didn't have anyone in Sri Lanka , and I think they all idolized Gary Sobers and Viv Richards.

What you call "Power play" today, is actually the fielding restriction of not keeping more than 2 fielders outside the 30 yards circle, and those were enforced in the first 15 overs of one day cricket, in those days. In fact Jayasuriya's biggest claim to fame in cricket, is his ruthless utilization of these fielding restrictions, particularly during the late 90s.

      Being a Srilanka fan,
I would say that you have overrated the Srilankan team by overlooking the real scenario. Srilanka weren't that dominant in the year 1995 upto the early months of 1996 before the World Cup. You can check the records here
      www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/series/index.html
In that period Srilanka emerged as a strongly competitive team.
Immediately after the world cup 1996, Srilanka lost to India by 12 runs chasing only 200 runs in a Singer Cup triangular Series involving Pakistan also.
In the final, Srilanka lost to Pakistan being all out for only 172 runs chasing 215 runs!!!
In October 1996, Srilanka failed to qualify for the final of a 4 nation tournament involving Kenya, Pakistan & South Africa.
Pakistan scored 371/9 when Afridi scored a century of just 37 balls and Srilanka lost the game by 82 runs & couldn't qualify for the final.
In November 1996, Srilanka also failed to reach the final of the Sharjah triangular involving Pakistan & Newzealand.
Srilanka failed to chase 206 & 169 against Newzealand and lost to Pakistan by 8 wickets scoring only 189.
In the following year 1997, Srilanka performed well in the ODIs winning 3 trophies including Asia cup. But couldn't win a single away ODI series or test series, rather lost to Newzealand & West Indies.
This video in which you have commented was from a 4 nation trophy where Srilanka miserably lost to South Africa twice including the final.
      Now, come to 1998.
Srilanka failed to qualify for the final of triangular series in SA, involving Pakistan and South Africa.
SL were all out for 105 runs against SA and for 139 runs against Pakistan and lost by big mergins. Lost the test series 0-2 to SA, lost the Nidahas trophy final to India chasing 307.
Later in Nov 1998, SL failed to qualify for the final of a triangular series in Sharjah Involving IND & ZIM !!!
Losing all 4 matches against IND and ZIM.
In the second meeting against IND in group stage SL were all out for 98 runs chasing 181 runs!!!
SL failed to reach the final of a triangular series in AUS in Jan-Feb 1999 involving AUS and ENG losing 7 out of 10 matches. In a match against England, SL were all out for just 99 runs chasing only 227!!!
SL failed to reach the final of a triangular involving PAK and IND in March 1999, lost both matches against IND and one to PAK. SL were knocked out from the first round of the 1999 world cup in England .
Though SL won the Aiwa cup in Aug-1999 but lost 3 out 5 matches failed to chase 211 & 241 against AUS & 271 against IND.
In Oct 1999 SL lost the Sharjah triangular series final to PAK. Out of 3 games against PAK, SL lost 2 matches & one was tied. Chasing 196 SL were all out for 196, chasing 239, SL were all out for 121 and in the final chasing 211 SL were all out for 123 runs!!!
So, in the period 1995 to 1999 except 3-4 matches I can't really see SL took Pakistan bowlers to cleaners or dominated anywhere except a few occasions in the Sub-continent..
So, you should come out of your fantasized and biased interpretation of how the SL team performed in the period 1995-1999

Greetings from ALBERT though I am an Indian, my favourite player is sanath jeyasurya bcz he's phenomenal top player. He was a hard hitting entertainer while he was on the crease . I am sure no one is going to hold his place in international cricket. As for India my lovable favourite player is virendher shewaq he is very daring and consisting run getter very good entertainer he always played for India winning not for his own record that is his best quality. I love Indian legend and srilankan legend.

Of 19 tournaments across ODI and T20 formats, Australia's men's team have reached the final nine times - the most by any team and three more than the next best Sri Lanka (came finals 6 times)
Srilanka was the best t20 team ,in the world where they ranked number one more than 32 months and reached t20 finals in three times.and In oneday worldcups srilanka came 3 times final and win 1996 worldcup oneday and 2014 t20 worldcup(2007,2009,2011,2012 runnerups )
Sri Lanka has a rich cricketing history, producing countless great players that have graced the international stage. With batsmen that score heavily, bowlers that take tremendous amounts of wickets and a certain record-breaking off-spinner, the Sri Lankans have seen their fair share of world class cricketers,At that time srilanka was a best of best among other cricket nations 🇱🇰❤️❤️

I remember the series. I watched these matches live even though India was not playing. Sri Lanka and South Africa were the unbeatable heavyweights in those days. SL had this threatening batting lineup, whereas SA had dangerous pace attack (along with some good batsmen).
Quite surprisingly in subcontinent conditions, South Africa defeated SL twice in the series - in the match next to this match, and also in the finals. Cronje was an experienced captained who knew how to martial his resources well. But both those matches were a treat to watch.
