$1,000 Jaguar XJ8 RUNS AGAIN *Completely Re-Timed*

- I bought a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 with only 75k miles on kit for $1,000. After doing some troubleshooting I found the fuel system was completely dry. After replacing the fuel pump the car tries to start consistently but dies after a second. The internet says it's likely fuel washing down the cylinders and lowering compression to the point where it won't start. Today I'm going to try spoon feeding oil into the Nikasil coated cylinders to raise the compression... hopefully it starts and runs after! I hooked up the air intake and sealed it as well, lots of Jag techs mentioned the XJ8 can't run without the MAF.

Thanks for catering your content to your followers in this instance. I know we all wanted to see that Jag saved. Love your work
Something so satisfying about seeing these old Euro barges saved 😮💨
You are very welcome!
Absolutely admire people like Dana. I hope he makes an appearance again once in a while.
He could be stunt man for tom segura
Dana is awesome
Ok I’m pumped!! So happy you decided to fix the jag! That’s why we love your content!! Thanks buddy 🎉
Thanks for watching! 💯
@@WatchJRGo it's funny how you need a "special tool" for a old Pontiac engine timing chain style. This is the same setup for timing as a 94' Grand Am (the one with the intake at the bottom of the engine), and uses the same tool.
I’d say it was always JR’s plan to fix it and he probably wanted it done quickly so scheduled Dana to help him. He was probably just saying he was done with it to build up the suspense and get the comments section going pending scheduling it at the other shop? After all he could have opened his garage door, pushed it back a bit, borrowed the tools and completed the job himself if he thought he could work through it quickly enough!
This is the John Ross we like. Doesn't stop to working on cars. Keep it up!
@@WatchJRGo If you want a quick profit, sell it to Tyler for $5K. He'll buy it in a heartbeat.
That Jag is a gem. Thank you, Dana and the guys for bringing it back to life.
Please don't lower it or replace the original wheels, keep it original.
Thanks for posting this video. I am the owner of a 99 XJ8 (Champagne metallic, matching leather) that unfortunately was taken to an unscrupulous mechanic for code diagnostic work and had to be flatbedded home. The car wouldn't start when I went to pick it up. He explained that it needed a whole new engine and that he just so happened to specialize in engine replacement! The poor Jag has been sitting in my driveway now, forlorn, for 4 years.
I know it’s not the same, but glad to see you back in your garage where it all started. And I have a feeling you’re gonna come back better than ever. It’s humble re-beginnings!
Its not the same, its better
Oddly this series really grabbed me.. it was fun seeing it come back to life
Good job, i knew you would sort it out, because it's rare for you to throw in the towel. I do like it when you revive something that someone else has cobbled up, makes it gritty. Not everyone can diagnose that well, takes a lot of skill really. I like a challenge myself, so good on you. G-d bless.

Yay the jag lives , I knew you wouldn't let it go without doing the job properly, well done JR 👏 👍 😀
Much better than an LS swap. Congrats. Great series.
So pleased you gave the old lady some care and attention to have her running again, it wasn't her fault she was abused, neglected and abandoned 16 years ago. From the UK.
ITS ALIVE.......ALIVE!
JR do a buy merch raffle on it, so we can get a chance for Jag goodness.
The Bentley might be more suited to that, I'll look into it but you have to have a 3rd party put the whole deal together 😳
@@WatchJRGo Randy from Auto Auction Rebuilds is doing a give away, maybe he could help
She sounds soooo good! Congratulations JR! Thanks for not giving up on her. I bet with a detail, it'll look like new again.
So happy you stuck with the Jag, there is just something about them, they are one of the few cars that still have a personality :)
This is so awesome! Thank you to Dana and your whole crew, JR!
Man, Witchita is amazing.. you have more parts, specialists, cars than I could ever dream about in San Jose.. Maybe I should move..
F**k yeah dude! your pushed through and got this old thing running. was alot of work for one of these, but you earned yourself a loyal viewer (probably a bunch of us). honestly thought you were done with it but the fact you kept going shows alot about you and what you do. You should get a Land Rover Disco 1 and bring it back to factory as much as you can :P bet it would get some decent views and love
I’m so happy you made this decision! It’s a gorgeous car and they just don’t make them like this anymore. They are pretty reliable once you have new tensioners and it’s done right.
Sure they are....
That's why they are admired for their reliability and durability and that reputation was reflected by their sales numbers vs it's competition and is stellar resale.
The jags after 2010 are all fomoco....the 5.0 is the f150 coyote engine trans. Same as Lr4 and RRSport. Great vehicles.
@@williamegler8771 Yes exactly! I’ve seen an 2001 XJ8 with 330k miles and it was mint inside out!
I have to give you so much credit for the amount of patience you have. I would have thrown every tool I own way before this.
I’d throw some Restore in the oil for compression loss. Best additive that I’ve ever used. Some fresh gas and drive that Jag for an hour or so. Anyways great that you decided to push on. Once that car gets a good detail and hoping just a couple more tweaks and it’s gonna be a beautiful runner.
Restore is incredible on cars with super high mileage and especially older cars like this!
Great to see and I genuinely believed this one was consigned to history. It'll be interesting to hear how it runs once its done a few miles. Congratulations on getting it running!
Oh I absolutely love that Jag! So happy she’s alive again - much kudos to proper techs like Dana. All she needs a good run and fresh gas now - an I-talian Tune Up, some Berryman’s B12 and feed her the onions!! Really great move fixing her and not giving up JR!
Yes! It lives again, watching now, good job😎
What a pleasure to watch and work with properly trained techs. We've all been there....
This is what and why we love your content Jr. because you take the most difficult problems and explain them to your audience in a manner that everyone can understand and comprehend. This is what other channels are missing. Keep this content coming. Great work!
So good to see the Jaguar nearly there. Well done JR we want more of this car please 🤩
I must admit, I never expected to hear this one run. Right on JR!
Thank you for carrying on with the Jag i think we all appreciate your efforts .
When you first saw the timing was off and you just closed it up - I sort of cried inside. I am so glad you still tried to fix it - and got it to run. Congrats!
That man literally saved this car. Also shout out to 100%Jake, for slowing the Monster energy drink population's rapid expansion, single handed. The heroes we need.
I think they're an invasive species. I do what I can.
Congratulations, I'm glad you didn't give up on the Jag. Nice job boys
you gotta do more content on this Jag. what a unique car. Dana is fabulous. so glad you persisted with this vehicle !
We’re invested in the Jaaaaaaaaaaaag!
This thing coming back to life was actually quite amazing to watch. Bizarre, but amazing. I had to rewatch it chug itself back to life. That’s something I’ve never seen - car chugging on it’s own like that willingly.
That’s a funny looking Bentley.😂😂
Hey the #4headlightgang is parked together now! 😂
Great job everyone involved in getting the Jag running again. I think some heat cycles, and about 50 miles driving might clear up some little issues.
Absolutly love watching Dana work. He was the guy I tool my Boxster to before Johnny went independent.
I love that era of jags
I’m so happy to see it run! Let’s see some driving next and WOT!👍👍
So happy you kept working on this beauty, I love this model of jag and she looks great and can't wait to see it clean and running good. I wish I had an old jag like that!
Thanks for not giving up on this one. Even though it's not worth much it's too nice to junk.
One reasons i like this channel, just a real guy doing real things , showing that having good friends and connections is sometimes a huge life saver and help. Dont burn bridges people... we all need somebody sometime
Hitting it out of the park with the content at the moment jr! My favourite car youtuber at the moment. Love that you are back to fixing old cars and not the shop. Still miss the old beater honda days but hey bentleys and jags are always entertaining!
Bet you're glad now you didn't scrap it. On some UK cars you need a specialist who knows the ins and outs of a particular make. Dana is one such person..years of training and experience. So pleased to this this cat run again.
Winners never quit. You done good, very proud of you.
I am so happy you guys brought it back. This may be my favorite car you've done to date. #SavedTheCat
Thank you for paying attention to your viewers, it lets us know you really care about what we think
I'm glad that you didn't throw in the towel on this one. I never see you give up on a vehicle so I'm happy to see this one running and saved. A rare classic that someone can enjoy again. Great work as always J.R.!
You are such a good mechanic wow you got the jag going .good job.
I still drive my 2002 Jaguar XJR that was abandoned at the dealership parking lot, I had to restored and it is not perfect but it is an amazing car! Good job on restoring your Jag JR!
This is a car I really would love to see finished
Great video, love to see these old jags that deserve another life bought back from the brink. This old car would make a great daily driver.
Well done, i really was gutted when you said that you were given up on the jaguar especially with the low mileage and it is in great condition body wise, i thank you sir for saving my favourite car excellent
So glad you persevered with this XJ8. Dana is a very cool guy. Enjoyed watching him work his magic on this car.
Ayyyy, always pushing out these great videos. Thanks man
Very cool. Happy you were able to bring it back to life. Hope to see you drive it around “the block” before you send it down the road. Either way, glad you gave it another chance.
Congratulations on the Jag, Great work, Engine sounds very good and thankfully the valves are good.
I would keep that car after it's running, that's a really classy car. That styling is timeless. You have someone close that knows how to work on jags, that's a big help. It'll probably take a while to bring it back to normal after sitting all those years, but probably still worth it.
Thank you so much as an owner of 2 of these awesome cars it truly saddened me when you was going to give up on her. I know they are expensive to repair and maintain but one day these cars will be highly sought after and you're already getting so much car for so little money. Thank you for saving this beauty.
That's a really nice Jag now that it runs. With 20:20 hindsight, it was worth the effort.
You’re smashing RUclips. So many videos lately. Bentley looks like it’s going to be a long journey.
JR is a wise man, always give the people what they want! Awesome story bringing the cat back to life!
It’s nice having friends. Thanks to Dana for hooking a brother up.
So glad you got that car going. Slam it like the other one and keep it.
That other one is static on cut springs… it’s pretty awful. Looks neat though
Echoing what others said. Thank you for fixing this thing. The more you drive it the better it will get. The next thing is the front calipers. They HATE being parked up.
Thank you thank you thank you. It wasn't so bad once you understand it.
Thanks for stepping up man. This video really makes me, and I’m sure many of your subscribers very happy. Awesome man!
Congratulations! So glad to see you didn't give up on it and just sell it off as is. There are so many out there that take on projects that they don't have the skill set or patience to finish and end up failing time and time again. No names mentioned but let's just say when you can pull off a win like this without endless money infusions from a rich stepmother, it just shows who the real pro is here.
Great job! This car really deserves to be back on the road!
JR this is what keeps me coming back. You are by far my favorite channel. Thanks for finishing your projects. I know we all wanted to see this one saved!
thanks for the follow through brother we really appreciate it!!!!
I’m so glad you went through with the retiming of the car! Thanks for listening to us! Also all I’m gonna say is that Elliot Alvis has a set of M parallel wheels he isn’t using… 👀
Half the battle here is other mechanics workmanship, the other is it being a Jaguar. Glad you didn’t give up on this. Looking forward to more.
Honestly mate, I'm so glad you got the jaaaaag running again. We could all see you were so close to the gold and had just stopped digging
Torturous journey, but massive grin at the end when fixed, and that was just me. 👍
The videos on the Jag and Bentley are great. Fixing cars that others could not get running is great content. Keep the cheap car repair coming.
Love it. I have a 98 4.0 Sport spec as my mid life crisis. Great to drive and I make sure it gets some run time every week and the occasional longer road trip. So far so good!
Am I the only one that want to see a series of this thing? maybe an exhaust and som wheels? That will be cool.
Congratulations on saving another one!
Thanks bro!
Good effort produces good results. It’s good to have friends like Dana that have the expertise to do a job like this. It’s a wonderful old luxury car that has been given another chance at life. I hope that you drive it for a while and enjoy it.
The timelapse tune is 🔥🔥. What was it? Glad you didn’t give up on it. Cool to see this thing back on the road.
Having found one for cheap and getting it running has been rewarding. Even though issues pop up here and there, I don’t have to dodge potholes when driving the old cat.
I didn't scroll through any of the comments but I know we had a problem with my XK8 convertible with the battery and here it just was the wrong battery for the car that the prior owner put in. Of course trying to find the cheaper way out. We put the right size battery in it and it cleared up just about every problem and had❤
Well done you and Dana. It was worth saving!
Glad you decided to check the timing. But, "Slamming' a car to the ground is so "Aaron and Richard " from GMG.
It's always great to see a specialized tech come in clutch and save the day on the unsaveables! Thanks JR!
Thanks for pandering to your subscribers wishes and not giving up.
Love that you out passion into these projects. Glad Dana was there to help, but would love see you struggle and learn yourself too! That's what we're doing out here!
Brill to watch you go through the same DIY learning as I have gone through - at home without manuals and specialist tools. But - ingenuity always wins the day (or week) LOL EDITED -WHAT FINALLY sorted the pulsing every 2 seconds? You mentioned adding injector cleaner - but as it backed out it stalled (mine never stalls) SUPER CURIOUS to know your final schmoove running solution THANKS in advance - old git, UK
BTW - I went back and watched your 'reveal' / find of the NOO timing chain set and your resignation to pack it, wrap it and sod it - I'm sooo very glad you / Dana persevered !!
It's alive! Thank you JR
Glad to see you stuck at it and timed it. Much more satisfying! Well done.
Congratulations!!! So F**** cool. I knew if possible. JR would fix. And I agree w Jake. Car now needs a long run at 70-75 mph across Oklahoma to clean it out and really charge it up. 👍
Wow, Dana knows his stuff, great teacher, Jag Maven
You legend. Never give up. I think that’s the great thing about your channel.
I thought for sure you were going to give up on it, I wouldn't blame you if you did but I'm glad you didn't.
What’s up with the sitcom music in the first montage? Impeccable work as always JR.
Yes, thank you for listening to your viewers and getting this running. Honestly, i’d like to see it running 100%. It doesn’t sound healthy. Please get,it 100%! Ty ty ty !
Great job getting the Jag running. Such a classic. Can't wait to see it go down the road. Low rider, nooooo
Can't wait to see the Jag detailed and brought back to its' former glory.
Take a Jag Victory Lap!!!! Well a short one ….. not too far from home ….. with a truck and trailer following behind. JR you have earned the glory.
Dana, Thank you for your time bringing the dead JAG back to life. Everybody that owns a Jaguar within 100 miles should bring their car to him for repairs. Outstanding job.
I want to see it run AND drive! I’m happy with the progress though! 👍
