    The "he's leaving, run Frodo, go" scene with Merry and Pippin is one of my favorites in the series. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are fighting and killing dozens of orcs but that's the bravest thing a Hobbit could do, for all they know by showing themselves they just guaranteed their own deaths.

      I always saw it as greatest sacrifice to make. They were ready to give their lifes at that moment.
      That is totally on point with the character Tolkien wanted the Hobbits to have imo.
      Love that scene too.

    Frodo as a hobbit has nothing that he could desire from the ring. Whereas all of the other characters would, as gandalf says, try to use it for good but through anyone else it would weild a power through them. I love that. He has no use for it, he'll just twist into a gollum type person, there isnt any power there, he'd just be a conduit for the ring to get to someone else stronger. He just knows it needs to be gone. The fellowship also knows that it has less of a grip on him because he has no real desire for power. It's why Tom bombadil was shit because he had such little regard for the ring that he'd have even forgotten the importance of taking it to mount doom.

    Efap LOTR Minis are the best way to start the weekend, canonically, I'm gonna miss them once the series is over.
    I dunno why people crap on Elijah's acting either, he did a great job portraying both the inherent goodness & innocence of Frodo's character, how the burden of the ring & journey affected him over time & how it changed him permanently after.
    Can't believe Gimli wanted him to die, after pledging his axe too. Some people are just rude

      When these came out i was not a fan of his. But (and maybe that was with a lot of others too) it was not his acting specifically, i just didn´t really like him as a guy. You know when a character in a movie just won´t grow on you? Like Willys screaming brings some people totally out of "Temple of Doom"?
      But the more i watched the movies, the more his performance gets to me.

    Gimli & Legolas might have equal presence in the movie, but Frodo did have a slightly closer relationship with Gimli, because his dad was friends with Bilbo, and they were chatting together in Rivendell before the Council got started. Also, Bilbo did not travel to Rivendell and lose the urge to go further, he actually went all the way back to the Lonely Mountain, and was disappointed to hear that Balin had already left for Moria. Balin was probably his closest friend among the dwarves, and he came with Gandalf to visit Bilbo at the very end of The Hobbit, after Bilbo had returned home. Which, again, made it such a gut punch to those who read the books in order, when they find Balin's tomb in Moria.

    Are you here to reveal that in the book Frodo begins at 33, and by the time Gandalf returned from THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM, Frodo reached age 50! Yes, he left for THAT LONG!!!! You guys never talk about the difference between the book and movie. They always show Frodo & Sam to be about the same age, when Frodo is supposed to be this cool older uncle who still goes on adventures. It also explains why Sam keeps calling him Mister Frodo- that confuses nearly all the reaction channels

    • @Jack-uy7ie
      @Jack-uy7ie 4 месяца назад +3

      That may be the case but when it came to portraying it in this medium, Frodo's youth helps portray his innocence. However on the flip side you have Frodo giving Sam relationship advice which helps set the "cool uncle" dynamic between the two.

    I actually went to the cinema to watch Fellowship of the Ring because of Elijah Wood, so I have to thank him for discovering these movies and Tolkien's work.
    I've had a crush on hin since the movie Forever Young (1992).
    Imho, he doesn't get enough credit for how well he embodied Frodo.

    I like how Frodo, when he tells Sam that its his task and his alone that he starts to sound more like Boromir before he tried to take the ring from Frodo. It shows that the Ring is taking over more and more, slowly. Its why he's so desperate for Gollum to redeem himself, instead of trusting in Sam, which he should have done in the first place and realising that each person is different to how they react to the Rings influence.

    Why didn't the ring cause more harm to Bilbo? Bilbo seemed to have enjoyed the ring's benefits, like long life and invisibility, but didn't end up drained of humanity like Gollum, or permanently scarred like Frodo? Is it just because Sauran wasn't actively 'attracting' the ring until the time of the 'Fellowship Mission'?

    • @Kino_pup
      @Kino_pup 4 месяца назад +4

      Bilbo was not pursued by the Nine because they were not in the world for most of the time he possessed the Ring. It was nearly 60 years from when Bilbo found the Ring in the Misty Mountains to when the Nine left the Morgul Vale and began searching for the Ring. Even then, it took the Nine very long to discover the Shire, for Sauron did not know where it was, nor did he know the existence of the Hobbits. All the Nazgûl had to track the Ring with were the words "Shire" and "Baggins."
      The Ring was in Frodo's possession for 17 years before he ever used it, from the Party to the incident at the Prancing Pony. Because he never used it, and rarely looked at it, it did not grow on his mind. The only time it began to have a grip on his mind was when the servants of the Enemy were calling to him, and to the Ring itself. The Ring wanted to be found, and it tried very hard to force Frodo to wear it and reveal himself. It was nearly 18 years before the Ring truly corrupted Frodo, and that was only after nearly a year of wearing it on his person non-stop, and while carrying it all the time toward its master. Conversely, Boromir was corrupted by it in just over two months, and Smeagol in less than ten minutes.
      So, bilbo was absolutely corrupted. The long life is part of the curse and a perversion of eru’s (god) natural design. Men, dwarves, elves all have a soul that is meant to only exist in a body for so long. Gollum’s was stretched beyond belief. That’s why he looks that way and acts that way. One,because of the ring worming in to his mind corrupting him. Two, because his life was stretched too far. That’s why bilbo says he feels like butter scraped over too much bread.. he just isn’t meant to live that long and his soul feels it.
      Basically the Nazgûl do not have infinite ring radar. The closer they are, the more they feel it’s pull but cannot see it’s exact location. The more Sauron and the Nazgûl call to it, the nastier the effects it’ll have on the bearer depending on how close they are.

      the reason number 1 is that Bilbo spared Gollum, Gandalf says this as much. While Gollum's possession of the Ring began with murder which permeantly scarred Gollum.
      This was part of the reason why Bilbo was able to give up the ring. That itself is party also why it did not scar him like Frodo- he gave up the ring willingly.
      Frodo was scarred not only by the Ring but by his wraith wound and spider bite.
      These combined with the trauma of having had the ring stolen from him (along with his finger) as well as his long burden of carrying it all the way to mount Doom are why it destroyed him mentally and physically.
      What is critical is that it did not corrupt him permanently- No one could have destroyed the Ring willingly. Tolkein himself said that Gollum's fall was divinely ordained, making Gollum a key ingredient in the success of the quest. Without it it would have failed.
      This is really awesome as each of the three hobbit ring owners, Bilbo, Frodo, Sam each have a moment where they are in danger and could justifiably kill Gollum
      (in the Goblin tunnels in the hobbit Bilbo chose to spare Gollum, In the Emyn Muil Frodo spares him after Gollum attacked Sam, and finally Sam chose to spare Gollum on the slopes of Mt. Doom after He attacked the final time.)
      The choice of these three characters to show mercy was every bit as important to the success of the quest as getting to Mt. Doom itself.

    Frodo finally telling Gollum what the quest was for is heart-rending. Gollum loves and hates the Ring too much to even imagine being rid of it...
