Rags with the cleverness
Andy Serkis is a remarkable actor, both live and mo-cap. He's a good director also. After Andor, maybe he should write & direct a good Star Wars series.....
Talent in one role may not equate to talent in another.
@@Fazeshyft But he certainly can't do any worse than the writers of all of the other series.
@@Fazeshyft At least he has talent......
Every Friday evening I finish up & MauLer's just like "welcome to the weekend, here's an LoTR Mini." I appreciate it Longman
I always come back to it two days later and play a game of, "Did I watch this clip or am I just remembering the clip from the videos?". I think that's just proof that they're memorable moments, so glad they got captured
So cool of Serkis to play an insane CGI creature.
I thought that was just Serkis in his natural habitat.
This might be my favourite LOTR mini. Gollum and Serkis make the best combination
Why does this 2000's technology look much better than higher budget productions today? Good writing to show what could be done well, and avoid what couldn't.
Gollum was my favourite character. He was brilliantly done, and Andy Serkis should have received an Oscar. As soon as I left the cinema in 2002, my first thought was Gollum deserves the Oscar. In the special features of my extended editions (18 hours of features btw), they mentioned that Andy Serkis had to drink a special tea with honey, ginger, and something else to protect his vocal chords, and he did do some damage to them during filming.
Also, check out an unknown film called Einstein and Eddington, with Andy Serkis playing Einstein, and David Tennant playing Eddington. Good film, very moving.
Unironically, my favorite character in LOTR trilogy is Gollum. His dynamic between the sides always gets me. Such genioune emotions are being put forward despite it being CGI.
In the shots where Serkis is shown in a mocap suit, he slightly reminds me of Pink Guy.
The White Guy... Uh-oh.
God I love EFAP. so much .
Andy Serkis is one of few actors to respect fully...
Andy Serkis' Gollum is miles and tones better than Lord of Ring Gollum, purely because he doesn't have his BALLS LOCKED.
The fact that Andy is the only really known Motion Capture artist tells you how unthankful it is even though it is even harder
Andy Serkis is great, but the animators / modellers (and probably programmers) did an excellent job too
Gollum.
Such a character that it should have spawn a whole new type of award
Gollum was an incredibly phobic guy 😬
As I watch and rewatch the greatest trilogy of all time as well as my favorite internet people reviewing all of it in adoration, a thought occurred.
What if all that rings of power stuff just made many new gen z fans of the Jackson trilogy? To the extent that as the RoP ratings drop through the floor and the legit negative criticism of his pet project explodes, he’s watching many many dvd box sets and book sets (original art) just flying out the Amazon warehouses.
I imagine a little tear would fall from his wonky eye right before his son disowns him.
yes boulder yes
Gollum is my favorite character because he’s like every homeless person me and my best friend ever met walking down to the corner store at 2am, all rolled into one person.
7:15 We knew a guy who was addicted to synthetic heroin and he would do odd shit like this all the time. Lol
A lot of the praise they give for Andy Serkis (which is 1000% warranted) could also be applied to Christopher Judge. What he did for Kratos is the performance of a lifetime.
Circus of Gollum
I’m genuinely curious why this looks better than current cgi? Do they take more shortcuts or what?
Part of the problem, especially with Disney, is that they've been hiring directors/writers who don't know anything about CGI. Some of them come from indie films, or at least haven't done such big films/shows before. That was the problem on Eternals, Black Widow, She Hulk, The Marvels, etc. A whistleblowing CGI worker for the MCU spoke out about this 2 years ago, saying that these kind of directors don't know how to properly visualize or communicate what they want, so they're often unhappy with the product and want a do-over. So the CGI crews end up being overworked and doing things last minute. That can also happen on things with bad scripts, where they have to keep doing reshoots.
@@marychocolatefairy another part is that with the tools making decent CGI becoming more common, the demand for CGI has skyrocketed in general, and there are only so many genuine experts in the world, especially when considering the time constraints you mentioned (edit: ie. demand has increased across the films but also within any single film)
Director knew how to work with CGI and the animators weren't demanded impossible deadlines is what I suspect.
oh. It's not written "circus". I'm not surprised, but somehow I never wondered how it's written.

Andy Serkis in Inkheart is utterly forgettable, which is sad, because he's meant to be an over the top, literary villain... and he plays him so excruciatingly boring.
He was in inkheart? I haven't seen that movie since it came out. The books were something else though!
