  • In this video I'll show you spec'd oils for the Gen 3 EcoDiesel from both ends of the spectrum, the least expensive one you'll find and one of the most expensive you'll find. Interestingly I've seen both perform the same in these engines! #JeepGladiator #EcoDiesel #EngineOil

    QS works just fine in my older generators that state conventional. I just blend syn with conv. No metal on magnetic plugs anymore! 100 hours change interval or less. Over hour meter, but still one pull or two or three if frozen.

    Here in Italy and Europe in general most oils are rated both gas and diesel.
    More specifically I used an oil born for diesels but works perfectly for gassers, with Manufacturers approval.

    • @arontesfay2520
      @arontesfay2520 Год назад

      I don't know about Europe but in North America YOU DON'T WANT TO USE DIESEL OIL IN A GAS ENGINE! The additive package in diesel oil will destroy your catalytic converter. Specifically, diesel oil has very high levels of zinc, magnesium, sulfur and calcium compounds which will "poison" your catalytic converter.

    • @dimmacommunication
      @dimmacommunication Год назад

      @@arontesfay2520 In Europe most oils are compatible, actually it's the opposite you can't use old gas oils in the diesels, 99% of the diesel oils you can use in the gassers.

    I've got to say, I'm not one to go and look at numbers. Let alone doing something like this myself. However, I really appreciate people like you that go out of your way (or not) to do this type of thing and share it. I love that this was information that I can use and be aware of. Getting educated on the vehicles you have is important so that you can get the most use out of your hard earned purchases. Again, Thank you.

    FYI, the QS 5w-40 (Euro now I believe) is basically the exact same oil as the Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40. Both are made by Shell. The Pennzoil is only sold by the quart while the QS is also available in a 5qt jug. The QS jug is currently approx $23.xx off the shelf at Walmart and the PP is $11.xx/qt. Literally more than 2X the price for the same oil, after comparing MSDS, technical data and VOA results. Cheers!

    • @KINGRG1
      @KINGRG1 10 месяцев назад

      An email from Pennzoil about this question stated that the only difference between the two oils is that the Pennzoil carries a slightly better additive pack. Probably a slight more amount of Boron or ZDDP’s..

    I'm running Quaker State 5w40 oil in my 2.0 Ford Ecoboost GTDI engine and it runs great! Factory spec is 5w30, and that's what I normally run most of the year. But in these extremely hot desert summers (over 100 to 110 every day) I like running the 5w40. And it runs very well with it. No loss of fuel economy either. And this Quaker State full synthetic is cheaper than just about every other full synthetic oil at Walmart.

      Though they’re both owned by the same parent company the executives at Shell encourage competition between QS and Pennzoil in order to bring the best possible product at their respective price points. They are being supplied with the same GTL base oils and the same additives that are available to all top brands. The difference is in their recipes for their products. QS is usually priced lower than comparable Pennzoil products but it’s by no means a lesser quality oil.

    Qs oil change at 5k and amsoil oil change at 10k... which ends up being cheaper if you have to change the oil filter every oil change.? 2.5 gal of amsoil is 111 bucks if you subscribe to them via their website.
    My 2007 v8 mustang yrs ago used to eat almost a quart of oil between oil changes every 3k/5k miles.
    Then I changed to amsoil and would not eat that quarter anymore and I was doing oil changes every 7500 miles. I sold the car with 229k miles and the motor still felt brand new.
    That was my experience on amsoil on a mustang, my ecodiesel just got the very first oil change today covered by the dealer. But I need to crunch numbers after a while too...
    I appreciate your videos, thanks for putting them up! Long live the ecodiesel!

    I’ve been using the Shell Platinum Euro and tried to switch over to this about a year ago, seeing conflicting information about MS-12991 approval on it or not. The bottle I got did not have the approval, and when I contacted Shell, they said it doesn’t and to use the Shell Platinum Euro. Fast forward and my local Walmart has it on the shelf with the approval. My guess is the 5W40 IS the same as the Shell, which I was buying online in quart bottles.
    Now if only the aftermarket oil filters for this were any good….

    not to nit pick, but having owned several older MB and spending a lot of time on BITOG and similar sites and watching every oil comparison youtube video I could find over the last 15 plus years I have never seen QS win a competition or be the preferred motor oil over other brands whether that be an expensive option like Motul or Ravenol or something more readily available lime Pennzoil, Castrol, M1, Kendall or Valvoline. I now own a RAM Ecodesiel. When I woke up this morning this was still America so to each his own but I would not use an oil simply because it was $20-22 a jug when 122991 spec oils are available in the less than $30/jug range that do indeed have many customers who would use nothing else than their longtime preferred brand and have also proven themselves better in head to head competitions. One last thing on the oil analysis. MB used to advise 19,000 between oil changes in the w211 with M1 0-w40 claiming analysis continued to show the oil and additive package still being at acceptable levels of protection. This along with there "lifetime" no service trans has since been debunked. FWIW I will be changing my oil every 5000 miles. Thank you for the video...

    That's because there IS NOTHING special about Motul! It is just another run of the mill Group III based oil! If you want better protection and performance, you need at least a slug of PAO or GTL to rise above ho-hum Grp III performance attributes. Look at Ravenol VST, for example. PAO based and has the performance specs to prove it! If you are not wanting to run extended drain intervals however, then yes it is hard to justify the cost!

I told them that T6 is not spec’d for the ED, they didn’t even know. They don’t stock the spec oil for ED. So if you use the free oil change make sure ahead of time they have the proper oil, not just viscosity.
