How to update the navigation software, maps & firmware on a Kia Sportage 3 MKIII SL via USB

You will need:
- Windows Laptop or PC (or a Mac) with at least 15gb of free storage
- 16gb USB stick formatted to FAT32 32-bit, such as the type found here:
www.amazon.co....

I downloaded the maps from the KIA website it does take a long time as stated but do not be alarmed if you think it is frozen as you watch the percentage scale line until its finished as I was waiting quite a long time so don't worry it will finish and go to the next step of the downloads until it's finished as soon as it's finished you see a KIA symbol on your screen then you no its finished I tested it and works a treat

Worked a treat on my KIA Sportage 2014. However, be aware it really does take a long time to update, the car was running for 95 minutes.
I did everything that way and everything works great, but now my camera doesn't work. Can you help me. Thanks

I went to kia a couple of weeks ago, kia won't do the update for you anymore, they gave me a print out with instructions to do it my self.

Queston.... Can the car not be connected to a battery charger during update process, instead of leaving it running for an hour ?
I believe so yes, but I did not have one to hand.
There is a difference between MY10 and MY14? Are these softwares the same?
The radio says that it is loading USB and after a while nothing. It won't show me the update confirmation screen. I used a USB 16gb. Thanks for advice.
It takes ages. Mine took over an hour. Just be patient.

@@Sportage5603 I don't know if you understand me, but when I put the USB in the car, it shows the USB loading screen and then nothing for 2 seconds, like it won't load the USB.
I've the same issue Martin. I would really like to know why it didn't start de update while the USB is connected.

Can you drive the car while the update is in process?
90+ mins of idle isn’t good for a diesel engine.
I got the diesel engine in mine.
And I don’t really have anywhere to let it idle without gassing my house out.
Dont know. Hook it to a battery charger or do it when you have a long drive planned
I tired to download the update yesterday to install but they have now taken it down.
I rang Kia and they said because the system is so old they have to rebuy a licence for the maps and that is about $700.
I said yeah nah not worth it. I will look into upgrading to an after market unit.

So. I'am one of those who is comments after making a mistake.
It all went very well, but I just pulled out the USB on my Carens and turned it off, becuse I didn't have time.
Now it plays only Dummy mp3.
Is there any way to fix it?

Hi I've been to kia and they gave me a document withinstructions on how to do this as kia do not update them any more, so the document says to use a 64gb memory stick but when I'm using the updater software it says I need a 32gb as the 64 is too big and can't be formatted. So I'm confused?
Try 32 first

I downloaded the maps from the Kia website .
Website for some countries will refer you back to a 'dealership' who will extort you $$$ for old updates!!!!! Also, that kia link, is for only newer models (e.g., Australia only for 2019+ models!).
I have the Hyundai version of this head unit, freezes on the Hyundai boot logo. So no radio, cd sound etc I've downloaded the latest software and maps the same way you did but as it freezes on that screen I can't initiate the update. Any ideas?
Have you tried a hard reset by disconnecting the battery
@@Sportage5603 the timing chain has just been done and it's still the same so I imagine the battery was disconnected then, but it's still the same

How long does it take to read the USB after I've inserted it? Mine doesn't come up saying Update. Stuck on USB Reading. It's 32GB SanDisk.
Took about 20 minutes

@@Sportage5603 I still can't get mine to work. had it on for an hour and no messages to continue or anything. Tried 4 different USB sticks. 16GB. My current System Version is 6.50. Firmware 1.5.2_SL.

@@Sportage5603 aah man, I don't trust the dealers here. They wasted my 7 warranty and always cost me for manufacturer defects. And if I ask them to do the SatNav, they will either try sell me another head unit or charge me £100. F that for a laugh. I'm best slapping in a unit of my choice.
